Xushi Ko, located close to the Ford campus of buildings in Dearborn, is a sushi restaurant that is definitely higher end than I anticipated. I wouldn't describe this place as "fast casual," but more of a proper sit down restaurant with nice booths and tablets for menus.
My friend and I started out our meal with agedashi tofu. The ones at Xushi Ko are a lot larger than what I'm used to, with not a lot of the savory liquid to dip it in. The proportions here were off, so the tofu was relatively bland, but still yummy because you really can't go too wrong when it comes to tofu!
Their menu is filled with more unique offerings when it comes to sushi. My friend and I came here namely for the "sushi pizza," an item that you don't even see listed on their lunch menu (only dinner), but that they can prepare for lunch if you ask for it. We had come here for lunch and were able to try it. The result? Absolutely scrumptious! The sushi pizza is ~$17 and you get a significant amount of food for that. It's a thin nori sheet layer (fried crispy/tempura-ed), a thin bed of sushi rice, then crab salat, avocado, and shrimp tempura finely chopped up on top with spicy mayo and eel sauce over all of it. It was a perfect balance of ingredients, nothing was too overpowering, and it was so fun to eat! The one downside is that there's no raw fish (salmon, tuna?) on this pizza and I would honestly pay a little bit more, say...$20?, to have some raw fish on this pizza as well!
Speaking of unique offerings, I had also seen this avocado bomb on the menu that my friends who have been here before recommended us to try. The photo of it on the menu looked a bit overwhelming, but definitely intrigued us. Since we were already ordering the sushi pizza though, we decided against it, but I'd be open to trying the avocado bomb next time I come here. Instead, we went for another one of the more unique items on the menu - a roll called spicy tabboulie. It was a sushi roll (crab salad, tuna, etc.) with tabboulie and salsa (random) piled on top. It was a surprisingly fun mix of flavors and while I wouldn't necessarily order this one again, I'm glad I tried it.
All in all, the food here is good! All the sushi ingredients we had tasted very fresh, the service was lovely, the ambiance was whatever (located in a strip mall/business based kind of area, while seeming a bit fancier on the inside, but still overall casual...so a bit confusing). I would definitely come here again as there is so much else on the menu that looked interesting that I would love to try at a later date!
