The Best Restaurants in Eugene, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Oregon-grown and raised ingredients transform into dishes reflecting the Japanese diaspora at this super-kawaii, lavender-hued food cart parked next to the covered patio at Coldfire Brewing Company. Chef Alex Dakers and the team blend the agricultural bounty of local farms with Japanese staple dishes like ramen, onigiri, and donburi. Warming bowls of koji-marinated pork belly or King salmon sashimi are layered over heaping bowls of rice with crisp sides of salad greens, smoked chicken-filled fills savory rice balls, and a build-your-own ramen option allows you to craft the ideal bowl with add-ons like smoked chicken thigh and jammy eggs over noodles from Portland’s Umi Organic. If you happen to be there on a Monday, the Yabai burger is also a worthy option. End the meal with a tall pint of beer." - Brenna Houck

Google
Ordered the Poke-Don and was satisfied with it. I was surprised when I had barely sat down, and my order was ready. I'm pretty safe in saying I won't find myself in Eugene again any time soon, but there were a couple of other items on the menu that I would want to try as well.

I went to Yabai Nikkei the other day for lunch for the first time. It is a food truck located on the patio of The Oregon Wine Lab. I got the Chicken Teriyaki and was pleasantly surprised. The ingredients were very flavorful and fresh. The chicken was grilled perfect with not too much sauce. It had a smokey flavor that was nice and a little bit of fat that complemented the dish nice. The portions were a nice size, and it came with a salad that also had fresh ingredients. Food was served promptly. The outdoor seating area was nice and covered. I also enjoyed some Black Seasem ice cream that they had on special. Overall I was pleased and will go back to try something else. I'd recommend checking them out if you are in the area.

Google
Worth the wait. Thoroughly impressed with the flavors. Tofu Teriyaki really hit the spot. Light smokey teriyaki flavor and super fresh ingredients. I would ask them to beer me an extra splash of sauce for the rice next time.

Serving sizes were very small. Chirashi was only 2 kinds of thinly sliced fish over rice. At least throw in some leafy greens or tobiko to add some color and make it look better. Very unappealing to the eyes. Temaki had very little fish in it as well. Pork belly sando was good. But after spending $50 on that, we were still hungry and went to a real sushi spot. Oh, and don't ask for extra wasabi. Without mentioning that it's an extra charge, he charged $1 - and then we got the tiniest bit of wasabi. We enjoy Cold Fire Brewing, but will be dining elsewhere after.

Google
Great experience. I got the fish donburi at market price. It was AMAZING! Reasonable too ($20). My partner got the teriyaki chicken. Everything tasted fresh, and well seasoned and prepared. Excellent and friendly service, amazing food, and Oregon wine labs provides a serene atmosphere. Can’t recommend enough!

Google
Yabai is one of our favorite food carts in Eugene, their normal seasonally changing menu is great, as well as their specials, are excellent and all the staff is friendly and great, we've followed them when they moved locations and at their current location, Coldfire Brewing, you have access to excellent beers, ciders and non alcoholic options to pair with their dishes.

Not the bad place for a bite but the soup not warm enough and the flavor a bit missed

Google
I just had the black sesame ice cream but it was amazing.

Yelp
Food was amazing, relaxing place to eat. Special menu looks delicious and cute. Would reccomend to friends and family.

Yelp
It's been a few days since I had the Onigiri (per chef's rec) and I'm still daydreaming about it. I've been to Coldfire many, many times. The other food trucks have historically received my business, and I have no problem with any of them. But this was next level. From the pickled veggies on the salad to the perfectly cooked rice to the flaked salt on the salmon. I honestly can't wait to get back over and try their other offerings. 10/10 would recommend

Yelp
I got the ramen here. It was not good. It had no flavor. I had to pour a lot of chili powder in it for flavor. The noodles tasted undercooked. This is NOT authentic ramen. I added what the worker instructed me to. The surrounding area was super cute! I recommend checking checking out the other food trucks.

Yelp
If you are not afraid of carbs, onigiri is the ultimate afternoon snack. Onigiri is a snack of plain rice with a savory filling, held in a nori envelope. It's challenging to find it in a foodie town like San Francisco, so it was a fun surprise to Yelp "onigiri" and to find a kawaii cute pink food cart here in Eugene, Oregon making onigiri to order. On a cold rainy spring day when the sun finally came out, we stopped briefly at Yabai Nikkei and tried all their onigiri varieties including: the mushroom onigiri, tofu onigiri and tuna onigiri alongside some green tea and miso soup. The cart is run by a friendly guy and he was the only one taking orders and prepping the food the day we visited, so there was a wait as the food was made to order. Seating is outside on picnic tables, in front of the cart, (which is also right by a wine shop.) The tofu onigiri is particularly delicious here! Savory, warm and tasty.

Yelp
During the pandemic, I gave ramen many opportunities as a 'to go' option but found that ramen mostly does not hold up well as a take home option. That's until I tried the tantanmen from Yabai Nikkei. I ordered the yaki tofu onigiri and a couple of bags of the Asian Market chips as well to take home with the tantanmen. And everything was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed from my couch. The only thing that didn't make it home were the onion soup flavored chips and that's because I ate the entire bag during the trip home. What separates their tantanmen from other ramens I have tried is that it is PACKED with flavor. I also appreciate the portion size they send you home with. It all fit perfectly into the size of a standard serving bowl and there wasn't any awkward spillage. I am looking forward to ordering food from this cart again in the future.

Yelp
Great food cart! Everything is super fresh and the portions are just right. I got the fish donburi and my partner got the teryaki chicken. We split a black sesame ice cream. Staff is friendly. It's outside Oregon Wine Lab and the vibes were chill on a Friday night. They get a little backed up at times, but it's worth the wait!

Yelp
Located at Wine Lab, this food truck is fantastic! It's farm to table and you can tell. All ingredients are quality and the favors are on point. Staff are knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and helpful. You also know it's good when all the employees at wine lab gush over everything on the menu. Will be back

Yelp
Drove by here the other day and really wanted to try it so we came back today. Amazing food, incredible service, and a bonus that the tasting room is next door (double bonus they are dog friendly). Ramen is off the charts good!

Yelp
Yum! I've walked by this adorable food cart many times but today I decided try it! I did place my order to go but they are located at the Wine lab. Which there is seating available outside. I decided to go with the teriyaki chicken, so glad it was gluten free! The chicken is so good with great flavor, not dry at all! It was over a bed of rice with a nice side salad. Food was delicious! While I was there someone had ordered their sesame ice cream, she said it was delicious. The taste was very nutty like peanut butter. I most definitely will be trying that next time! Great food and good service, lots of wonderful choices and the sesame ice cream will be on my next or

Yelp
Yummy Ramen! I was so excited to find this treasure of a place.. great food truck in the setting with other food trucks and attached to Coldfire Brewing. The Ramen was delicious and filling. The service was above and beyond since I asked for a ramen they didn't have on the menu anymore, but they made it happen! Super nice! I'm going back to try their Japanese Sandos and Onigiris! Highly recommend!

Yelp
The flavor of the braised pork was absolutely delicious. The touch of the pickled onions and the soft boiled egg made the dish perfect! The mushroom onigiri was the best I had in Eugene since Meji. I also enjoy that ingredients are organic and local. The person helping was so kind and knowledgable about each item I had asked about. I'm so happy I stumbled upon this super cute fantastic place.

Yelp
Best egg salad sando and miso soup ever!! Staff is cheerful and can help you to order exactly what you want.

Yelp
Delicious Hot Chicken Sandwich! There is always something new and tasty, with local produce and high quality ingredients in general.... BUT FORGET ABOUT THE NEW STUFF!! Lol. Seriously you need this HOT CHICKEN SANDWICH in your life. So tasty. Is it the best sandwich in Eugene? It's in the conversation my friends. Moist. Sauced up. Perfect bun. House Pickles. Totally worth it. A two napkin, somewhat elegant, finger lickin taste treat.

Yelp
Amazing quality and great people. The flavor is fresh and will blow your mind. Get your bu** there!

Yelp
Yabai Nikkei sits outside the Oregon wine lab in a little pink trailer, with many well-shaded picnic table on a quiet corner of 5th and Lincoln. There's a nice selection of ramen (including choose your own ingredients, very nice), a couple of sandos, teryaki & fish don burri. It's all carefully prepared, beautifully presented and delicious. I recommend the black sesame ice cream which is brilliantly sweet and sort of salty, and wildly unique. Thus is a great food truck, one of the best in a town full of good ones.

Yelp
The chicken teriyaki bowl was good and the onigiris tasted great as well. But a little overpriced for the portion and what the food consisted of. $7 for a ball of rice with tuna and mayo wrapped in seaweed is a little crazy. In Japan you can get them for $1.20 in any convenience store. Not saying this is Japan but $7 definitely shocked me a bit, as it costs $1 max to make.

Yelp
Woohoo! Gluten free poke!!! Prices aren't great for the portions but I admit it was delicious. Clean and cute food truck. Made for a nice addition to our night watching open mic.

Yelp
A great new addition to the Coldfire food trucks! We stopped by on a warm Saturday afternoon for some beer and snacks. Everything on the menu looked really tasty, it was hard to choose! I originally had seen their egg salad sando on Instagram and had really been hoping to try that, but unfortunately they were already sold out. I ended up just trying the albacore onigiri, which was fresh and delicious. It had soft tender rice and crisp toast seaweed on the outside. Many fresh bowls of ramen came out while we were there, which looked like they would be great on a cold night. Can't wait to come back and try more items on their menu

Yelp
Awesome little Food Truck in the 5th Street market district. Best teriyaki chicken, I've ever tasted! Plenty of outdoor tables to sit in the sun. Attached to a wine bar in case you want a nice Oregon wine to go with your meal. Well done!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing great customer service and amazing food onigiri is my favorite I absolutely love the place

Yelp
Fresh Japanese food that feels homemade and nourishing. I highly recommend the donburi, especially the fish special if you are lucky enough to see it offered. Onigiri are satisfying and the ramen looks amazing though I haven't tried it. Solid gluten free and plant based options. You can eat inside Wine Lab or on their outdoor covered patio. Bonus points for being extra dog friendly!!

Yelp
Terrible pork bowl. Lots of FAT and hardly any meat. Definitely not worth the price. Should have not eaten.
