Yala Coffee - Silverlake

This place is known for quality matcha and specialty flavors. Line went by quickly only waiting 8 minutes out the door. I will say, the atmosphere is nice although, the temperature in here is very HOT. The workers look red and sweaty. I feel so bad for them and that reflects on the way they treat the customers. Please do better for your employees!

Fig & vanilla matcha latte and Yala latte had great flavor for those who enjoy specialty drinks, though a touch on the sweet side. The everything cream cheese danish was tasty. Baristas were great and answered our questions kindly despite the long line behind us. (We popped by on a Saturday around 11:45 am. Line had 12 folks but moved quickly, 15 min tops.) We live in the neighborhood and will probably be back!

Ran from home to echo park to Yala for this cup of matcha, supreme taste. The drink to me is a bit sweeter end of most other matcha drinks I’ve had at different stores but if this my second time visiting this shop and ordering the same drink, it prob mean the sweetness level is tolerable. Not as sweet as regular sugar added to any boba drinks. Service is always good and efficient. Not much seating in and outdoor but when it’s not super busy, you can easily grab a seat anywhere. Location of the shop is prime. Lots of other food shops nearby so having this location here is perfect!

I wanted to like this place so bad, but my last experience made me want to never return :( My friends and I visited in the morning on Valentine’s Day, so it was a little busy but not as crazy as I’ve seen it other days. I ordered the evil eye, and my friends and I were waiting for about 10-15 min for our drinks (as expected). We saw some drinks on the counter that looked like ours, so I went to check and see if they were ready. One of them had a receipt with my name on it so I asked “is that one for Lisa ready?” The barista with the dark pixie cut glared at me, and then very rudely scoffed “It’s not ready yet.” I was shocked, and when I turned around to go back to my friends, their jaws were all on the floor after seeing the interaction. Very humiliating :( When we finally got our drinks, the cream on top looked muddy even though we were expecting a single dot like the pictures. It still tasted good, and other items I’ve had there are good albeit on the sweeter side. I get that people have bad days, but that barista really didn’t have to do all that 😭 it honestly felt like she didn’t think I was “cool” enough to be there since I was dressed very casually…

Great iced americano and loved the interior. Took a bit of time for the coffee, but it was a little busy. The zaatar and cream cheese danish is tasty with a hint of sweetness

No one really greeted me upon entry. I thought my fig matcha would have the foam on top but no one even answered my question regarding it. I liked the drink overall though!!

Signature yala latte was delicious. The cashier can be welcoming and look at the customers eyes when speaking, but idk some cafes don’t really care to build that rapport. All good though, coffee was good.

I really wanted to love this place. I’ve been raving about it cuz I heard the studio city branch is amazing. But honestly it’s pretty disappointing. The pastry had no swana flair, it was dry and pretty bland. I got their signature sand coffee and it was pretty watery and the sugar rim was kinda just brown sugar. Idk overall didn’t get caffeinated or enjoy the coffee. I hope they’re able to fix these issues because I heard the studio city branch is amazing.

Super cute little mom-and-pop café in Silver Lake, known for its Middle Eastern inspired drinks especially their signature sand coffee, brewed in heated sand for a rich, slightly smoky flavor. What we ordered: * Evil Eye Sand Coffee - house-made cardamom cream, raw sugar rim, coffee grounds * Fig & Vanilla Matcha Latte (einspanner) - ceremonial matcha, organic fig purée, house vanilla bean syrup * Yala Latte - house-made cardamom cream, organic brown sugar syrup, coffee grounds Everything was quite decent overall, but the Evil Eye sand coffee was the standout. It's strong but very pleasant on the palate bold without being harsh. The raw sugar rim really ties everything together and balances the bitterness perfectly. One of the Fig & Vanilla Matcha Lattes was an einspanner, and honestly either version, you can't go wrong. I loved the fig bits settled at the bottom; such a thoughtful touch and definitely not something you see often. The flavor felt unique yet comforting. Huge plus: they offer oat, pistachio, and almond milk at no extra charge, which I truly appreciate as someone who's lactose intolerant. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and I loved their recommendations. Service was efficient we didn't wait long at all. Parking isn't available directly in front, but we found street parking in the nearby neighborhood, which was an easy walk. If you're in the Silver Lake area and curious about sand coffee, Yala is absolutely worth a stop

One of the best lattes I have ever had! Not bitter, not acidic, strong coffee taste in a good way. The creme brulee latte was perfection - not too sweet and highlighted the coffee profile really well. Had their cheese danish which was not a stand out but did the job. Limited pastry options. Their drinks are high maintenance so be prepared to wait a few minutes. If is worth it. Limited seating inside. Parking is street and can be challenging depending on the time of the day you go. Yala. Let's get some coffee!

The thing that will matter to most of you is...that the coffee is good. Is it great? No. But they have some unique creations. People who work there are friendly. Suggestion: There is only one menu to look at and it's right where you order...so it makes the line go a lot slower because people show up at the front and have to look over the menu for the very first time. why not have menus on a stand near the front door? Issue: The place looks like that awful room you almost rented when you were 20. It is so uncomfortable. There are little silver units that stand in for tables...they look like garbage cans. There is very little space to sit..and the seating that is there is quite uncomfortable. There are almost no decorations anywhere...other than an odd, random silver bike that takes up space. Is it part of a theme? Not sure. Is there a theme? Not sure. I'll grab a coffee to go but I'd never bring a friend there to hang out and catch up over a coffee.

Came in twice in the past couple weeks and had a lovely time - I tried the Sand Hot Chocolate and the Yala Latte, and the drinks are great! Highly recommend stopping by if you enjoy inventive drinks Depending on your luck, the line can get pretty long, but the team is nice and moves fairly quickly. Seating can be a challenge, this is not a spot to bust your laptop out to work at. Rather it's cozy and good for one-on-one hangs with friends. I came during a rainy season though, I think they do have some outdoor chairs out on the sidewalk for when the weather is better Parking is either metered outside or in the surrounding residential area

I've been meaning to try the Studio city location but could never make it out there so was pretty excited to see they had a new location in silver lake! Everyone else was also excited so the place was pretty packed so be prepared to wait in line. Parking is only street parking. The shop itself is also a bit small so seating is limited. For drinks, I ended up deciding on the Yala latte and I'm really glad that I did. It's served with a cardamom cream top so it's like a twist on an Einspanner. The drink was very well balanced without being overly sweet and I really enjoyed it!

Flavorsome and well crafted--I now understand the hype with their Studio City location! Not even a week old and there has been great turn out! We ordered their Yala Latte, iced and Orange Blossom Oat Latte. Both delicious and excellent choices as we are newly introduced. The cream topping on the Yala Latte was rich and gave a nice mouth-feel. The staff were all welcoming and even made time to connect. We appreciated the chat! With the space being fairly new, theres seating inside and out. There's metered street parking and plenty of shops that are waking distance. Overall, stoked for this new addition to the neighborhood!

a beautiful location in silverlake. the interior is minimal but elevated, i loved the vibes! music is loud but fits the ambiance my friend got the fig and vanilla matcha and i got the sour cherry soda and it was so good!! a nice sour cherry flavor with a slight bitterness. the fig matcha had a subtle hint of fig and the matcha flavor was great as well! staff is nice and they greet you by your name which was a nice touch :)

There is very limited seating inside with small short tables and stools only along one side of the wall, and it seems most people grab and go. The famous guava matcha was much too sweet for my liking, but the seasonal peppermint had good balance. The vibe is incredibly LA silverlake. I think this place serves a lot for the Instagram.

The evil eye is a smaller 4oz size but the sugar rim and crème top were yummy. The crème brûlée latte was also soooo yummy. The cream top was not overly sweet imo and the coffee was still strong enough. The interior is clean and service was quick. I want to come back and try the matcha next!

Beautiful and lovely customer service. Fatima is such a gem. The drinks were amazing. Even though they don't stay open late, I highly recommend the sand hot cocoa! Very rich and the marshmallows instantly remind you of childhood. The iced chai is so so smoothe and not chalky like other brands who use powder. Very happy this has come to Silverlake as it's a new favorite!

The baristas seem friendly & the coffee is good. My partner got the Sand Coffee and I got the sand hot chocolate. I love their whipped cream. The coffee shop has brutalist desert vibes, with teeny table tops on one side of the room. Would not recommend for working. No outlets avail :( very minimalist space

I rarely write reviews, however I was genuinely so blown away by their matcha. To order and receive my drink did take a total of 25 mins. Probably wasn't as busy as other days considering it was New Year's Eve. The service was okay, but I do believe their matcha deserves all the hype. It was well made, looked beautiful and tasted amazing. I believe it had a perfect ratio of matcha, and the multiple sweeteners they use. I will definitely be coming back!

Yala just opened a few weeks ago in Silver Lake and the location could not be better. It sits on my favorite block in the area and the vibe matched the neighborhood perfectly. They were training someone new when I went so things moved a little slower, but nothing that took away from the experience. Everyone was friendly and patient. I ordered the vanilla fig matcha made with Archives of Us matcha. It was good and the fig added a nice touch, even though it was premade rather than whisked fresh. Premade matcha can have a stigma, but the flavor was still strong and enjoyable. My friend got the creme brulee drink and it was very sweet in the best way possible. I also tried the sand hot chocolate which tasted great but felt more like a dessert, something you would want after eating something salty. The sand setup at the counter is a cool detail and something I have not seen before in LA. The interior decor is warm and inviting with rugs everywhere and a cozy atmosphere. Overall, Yala gave me a great experience and I would happily come back again.

I loved how the location is very central so there's options to explore. Inside there's not a ton of seating or decor so not the best set up. The staff was super kind in offering recommendations and super quick service even with huge lines outside.Absolutely hated the straws since they just fall apart In terms of the matcha, I just wish it had a stronger fig flavor.

I waited nearly 30 minutes to order on a busy Saturday afternoon, but their Evil Eye -- cortado-sized jezve coffee drink with a brown sugar rim -- is delicious.

A good americano (I can't remember the last time I said that) and very, very kind customer service.

The staff here was very rude to me ! I came here a couple mins before closing I drove far and was looking for parking for a while and had already waited in line for almost 20 mins ! And I explained this to this staff and they turned me away very coldly , still after waiting in long so long !!!! That's not fair at all the staff was very cold to me didn't seem to care at all when I explained this . I don't feel this was fair at there was already so many people in the shop already .

So happy Yala is now in Silverlake! The drinks here are the best in town. (imo) whether you want something classic like an Americano or decadent this is the spot. Today I pulled up and there were 9 people ahead of me, I was worried I'd be waiting a while. I waited 5 minutes which was great and easy. They were well staffed and efficient. My favorite here is the evil eye coffee, last month I tried their seasonal menu and got a cold brew with a pistachio cream top, it was soooo good. Lastly it's in a great location with plenty to do around and parking isn't terrible!

The cashier was so rude when asked about non dairy options or to explain the "sand coffee". She acted as if it was a total inconvenience to explain what could be made with non dairy options. A total let down. Not to mention she didn't know the type of bean or how it was processed that they use. If you're going to have a boutique coffee experience knowing the difference between roast and process should be standard. This place is a gimmick and the service staff are pretentious and ultra rude. But hey the drinks will look great on TikTok.
