A Hot D.C. Taqueria Unveils a Bigger Home — And More August Openings | Eater DC

"In Oakton, I found that the beloved Vienna food truck has opened a brick-and-mortar near Oakton Elementary School after being closed since May, now offering its hummus, kebabs, rice bowls, and fattoush salads daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m." - Emily Venezky

Google
The reviews of this place don’t lie. It is really quite good. I had the beef shawarma (paid extra to upgrade it to a combo platter. (The platter upgrade gives you pickled m veggies, 2 sauces can of soda, and a serving of french fries. The pickled veggies wasn’t the best but the main shawarma was amazing. Super cheesy and had an extra crust/crunch. Meat as really tasty too. Service was excellent. Super friendly.

Google
This spot is an absolute gem for anyone craving authentic Palestinian-Jordanian touches. The shawarma here isn’t just good, it’s ridiculously huge and packed with perfectly seasoned, juicy chicken. The wrap itself is toasted to perfection — golden, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. But what truly sets this place apart is the hospitality. A heartfelt thank you to Saleh for being so genuinely warm and welcoming. His kindness and the way he made us feel at home elevated the entire experience. If you’re hungry, and looking for flavor that hits every spot, this place is a must-visit. Can’t wait to go back!

Google
Yalla Pita is by far the best shawarma in the DMV. I haven’t had anything close. The meat shawarma is rich and fatty in the best way, with tahina and onions with sumac that make it taste exactly like the shawarma I grew up eating in the Middle East. The chicken shawarma is just as incredible, an easy 10 out of 10. Even the falafel is great. Only comment is that the falafel has a slight aftertaste, but it’s easy to ignore. It’s a little pricey, around $17 for meat, $13 for chicken, $10 for falafel, but absolutely worth it. They are extremely large shawarmas and they are so generous with the amount of meat they put. The bread it’s wrapped in is incredible (toasted and buttery). The owners are also incredibly kind. They gave us extra falafel while we waited. Such kind people. 10/10, will DEFINITELY go back. I even bought an extra shawarma to eat the next day.

Google
Hands down the best shawarma & falafel in the DMV. The ambiance makes you feel that you have transformed back to Jordan. The owner is welcoming and lovely. The staff are super friendly. I will definitely be coming back. Finally found a place that makes authentic falafel & shawarma.

Google
Excellent shawarma chicken and beef sandwiches. Fresh ingredients. Balanced sauce. Very much like back home! Lovely staff. Recommended for sure!

Google
Very cute place with nice drawings on the wall and colorful paintings. Steak shawerma was great, tender meat and good size but in my opinion over priced as $16 is a lot!!! Chicken shawerma was good too. Falafel was yummy and very filling sandwich.

Google
I visited the shawarma restaurant in Oakton, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish! The food was incredibly delicious — the shawarma was perfectly seasoned and fresh, with soft and tasty bread. The place is clean and well-organized, and the service was beyond excellent. The owner is very respectful and helpful, warmly welcoming us and genuinely caring about customer satisfaction. It’s rare to find such professionalism and generosity all in one place. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone, and it will definitely be my go-to spot whenever I’m in Oakton.

Google
Amazing falafels and the best authentic chicken shawarma I had in the states. Such a beautiful nostalgic experience. Very nice customer service, they welcome you with a free Falafel and a smile. Amazing place in Virginia

Yelp
Dropped by late afternoon and things were pretty quiet. It was very warm inside; the owner (very friendly!) apologized for the air conditioning being out of service, though I doubt it was his fault! Ordered the chicken shwarma wrap, a falafel salad, and a side of baba ganoush to go. Took about ten minutes as the falafel was fried to order. The shwarma was absolutely delicious. Tender, well seasoned, and generously portioned. Really enjoyed the pickled pepper relish and the toum included on the side. My wife also enjoyed her falafel salad, though she did mention there was a lot of liquid at the bottom of the bowl (probably from the chopped tomato). The baba ganoush felt very homemade, smoky, well-roasted eggplant, diced/mashed with tahini drizzled over top, rather than blended all together. I actually quite enjoyed this as it really highlighted the flavor of the eggplant rather than making the dish a uniform hummus-like paste like many other places. We enjoyed Yalla very much! Will definitely visit again.

Yelp
Saw posts of this place on social media and they looked so good I had to stop by the next day. It is in a fairly busy shopping center with a lot of businesses and eateries. The employees were very nice, its a cozy, casual, family-friendly spot. It's not very spacious; they do have a few small tables outside. The day I went it was very busy and there was a 30 minute wait for food. I had a chicken shawarma bowl and a steak shawarma wrap. Both were really good. Just like the social media posts, the shawarma wraps are very long and well worth it. Everything tasted good and fresh. I will definitely be back for some more shawarma.

Yelp
Stopped by while visiting from out of town. It was DELICIOUS! And great portions! Food comes out quick and the staff is super friendly (advised us to order the combo when we were thinking of ordering each individual thing separately)! We got the baba ganoush with fresh warm pita, the chicken schwarma rice bowl, chicken schwarma wraps, falafel and fries. Super flavorful--and cute containers. The schwarma bowls come with two creamy sauces which are both excellent. My fiance and his parents loved the falafel and thought the pita wraps were perfectly crispy without being soggy. The fries were also very yummy

Yelp
Food and service were both outstanding. It was quite busy as I think a lot of people saw the video review we did. Well worth the wait. We had chicken shawarma wrap - best we've ever had. Flavorful, tender chicken. Veg and fries included in the platter also great. Falafel - also amongst the best we've had, we got the salad with falafel. Already looking forward to the next visit!

Yelp
Yalla Pita was delicious! I came to the store yesterday craving a quick lunch. The owner was kind and greeted me as I walked in. After placing my order, the owner suspected that I was new to the store and then went into the kitchen to hand me a piece of falafel. It was really good! That left a nice interaction with me asking about the place. It hasn't been open for long but they have strong support from the community. Originally I wanted to try the Steak Shawarma but the owner mentioned that it's only available on Fri-Sun. That didn't stop me from ordering a Chicken Shawarma Wrap. The Chicken Shawarma Wrap has shaved chicken, pickles, fries, lettuce & garlic sauce. The sandwich is actually almost a foot long. I was surprised on how much food this place gives! It's impressive. The owner also gave me more garlic sauce on the side to dip with the wrap. It is amazing! Just to clarify, I did not order the platter with does come with fries + soda of your choice. I only wanted the sandwich but that is an option for anyone interested. I can't wait to come back to try the Steak Shawarma Wrap!

Yelp
Service is always friendly and good! The food is very consistent. I always get the chicken shawarma wrap and i love it! Their falafels are also really good. FYI I think they only have steak shawarma on the weekends(?).

Yelp
Came here for lunch. New trendy hip looking place that just started out after owners ran a food truck for a while. Very friendly Palestinian owners after chatting with them. I tried their schwirma steak wrap. The wrap although skinny was very long and had a good portion. I got their spicy sauce on the side which was very tasty. Overall good sandwich and I would return to try more food!

Yelp
First time my friends and I arrived we regretted not coming earlier in the day because we had missed out on the shawarma! (We were so happy to hear you sold out ) We got the falafel wraps, baba ghannouj, hummus, pita chips, fries & baklava. I have to say these are my favorite falafel and the freshest baklava I've had! My second time going, I saw that the steak shawarma was available so I finished my errands to grab a late lunch & the wait was worth it.
google avatar

Sandra T.

Yelp
Wow this has to be the best shawarma I have had in the US! So impressed and that's quite rare. Didn't even take a pic I devoured it so fast

Yelp
MOVED to Oakton, VA as brick & mortar restaurant. Right in our neighborhood. Since daughter is huge fan of Cava and all things hummus - she picked for pre-college-move-in meal. The bread is excellent, the meats flavorful. Disappointed modifications to wraps not allowed, hubs hates pickles and garlicky sauce was good but overpowering. Def order ahead, friendly service but can be slow. Welcome & much luck.

Yelp
After hearing all the hype about Yalla Pita, I finally had a craving for shawarma and crossed the street to get some wraps for me and my boyfriend. It's right across the parking lot from Hangry Joes, and can be difficult to find parking if it's during peak hours/ the weekend. There's a small amount of seating inside, so you can order and wait for your food, since it's about a 20 minute wait for orders (they make everything fresh). Very cozy interior and the staff are super kind and helpful. After ordering, the cashier/ owner gave each of us a free falafel to try that they made fresh, which was very tasty. The shawarma wraps are a really good deal, you get this extremely long wrap for $12.99! Honestly you can portion this out for several meals, but my boyfriend inhaled his in one sitting and I have over half of mine left after eating it. The garlic sauce that they have is phenomenal with it too. I'll definitely be back to try the other items, since the beef shawarma was out for the day, and there's bowl and platter options too!

Nanako W.

Yelp
Best shawarma I've had in the area and I've tried a handful of places. The staff is very friendly and attentive. It's a small place and was very busy so not much space to dine in but they were attentive to cleaning up tables immediately after someone got up. I will def be back.

Yelp
I must say, I was a little disappointed. Especially seeing the high ratings from my fellow Yelpers. The shop is small and cozy ... and the menu is on the small side as well. But that's OK. I'd rather it be small and done right. But that was not the case. I proceeded to order a Steak Shawarma, but was told that they did not have any. What? It's not even noon and they are out? So I proceeded to order the Chicken Shawarma. I wanted to couple this with a diet soda, but they did not carry any (not good). I also ordered a side of fries as I wanted something to go with it (only pita chips was the other option ... again, not good). When the food arrived, the sandwich was larger than expected and the order of fries was quite generous, but the total amount of food was probably more than what I wanted for lunch (and now I understand the somewhat expensive price tag). I proceeded to take a bite of the sandwich. The chicken was tender, but the taste was bland. And if I knew that their recipe included pickles in the sandwich, I would have asked to put them on the side. So, I was not impressed with the whole experience. Not sure I will return unless there are changes.

Yelp
service was so helpful and amazing. I made a convoluted order, and it turned out perfectly. The place was clean, and the food was delicious. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the falafel wrap and the chicken schwarma wraps were tasty and satisfying. Thank you
google avatar

Suzan H.

Yelp
First time trying them. Ordered steak shawarma sandwich to go. At $16 without any sides for a sandwich price is too high. Menu listed includes fries. Didn't see or taste any fries. Added tip for to go order never thanked me. He seemed labored about working.

Yelp
Small restaurant with a few tables. Came here for lunch...def got pretty busy around 11:30. We got the chicken shawarma platter which comes with fries and side of raw veggies ($6 more) and the steak shawarma wrap. Both were really good and the side sauces were a good combo. The main guy came around and gave us samples of falafel made with chicken peas...it was crispy and hearty! The wraps are thin with lots of filling. I enjoyed the steak and chicken... would recommend trying both!

Yelp
I'm no expert when it comes to Palestinian-Jordanian cuisine, but everything on Yalla's menu sounded delicious! Our chicken shawarma wrap and falafel salad were outstanding, as was the friendly and welcoming owner. I'll definitely be back to try other dishes and their enticing baklava!

Yelp

Yelp
Most amazing pita place I have ever gone. They have gluten free and vegan options. So delicious. I'll be back many more times after going twice in one day!! Great good, even better service, good ambiance.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for soo long and I'm pretty disappointed. Went for lunch and the place was empty. I got a chicken shawarma and the meat was so dry. The flavor was so one-note and no tastes stood out. It was ok, but i've definitely had much better.
google avatar

Cori T.

Yelp
Finally, a solid, authentic shawarma place in the DMV! Upon entering, the owner greeted us & kindly offered a sample of their falafel, which was delicious. We ordered the chicken shawarma platter, which was generously portioned. The shawarma is solid & the closest I've had to ones I've tried around Eastern Europe. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quick but quality bite to eat.

Yelp
The food is great and not overall too salty, we all know that adding salt and msg to food will make it more favorfull but not necessary good for you. However, most restaurants/fast food don't give a fcuk about your health. They managed to have good favor without too much salt. Just good, simple food. The portion is good, i often split one wrap+ fries platter with my wife for lunch. I hope you guys all try this place out and they have more business so that I can have steak version whether I can, not just Friday to Sunday. One issue is the don't have diet soda, I always takeout and never took their soda, it is not a problem for me, but can be quite annoying for other people.

Yelp
AMAZING FOOD!!!!!! People are SO NICE! I can't BELIEVE nobody wants the pickles in their wraps! They are SO GOOD pls just try them. And I love how we can draw on the walls it is so fun! And it's fun to read everything people wrote there! And again... The people who work here are SO NICE AND HELPFUL. The falafel is so hot and delicious! We will definitely be coming back to this AMAZING PLACE!!!

Hamza R.

Yelp
Best shawarma in the dmv. Caring and attentive staff. Wish you guys all the best. Was a pleasure coming in

Yelp
It was my first visit to Yalla Pita, and it definitely won't be my last. We ordered two chicken shawarma wraps, one steak shawarma wrap, one falafel wrap, three orders of fries, and sodas. The food quality and taste were perfect. Personally, I loved the steak wrap--it was amazing, as were the other two. The size of the chicken and steak shawarma wraps was massive; no other place in the DMV offers something similar, to be honest. The service was excellent as well. Mohammed was so kind and displayed exceptional hospitality. The restaurant isn't very large, but the decorations and wall paintings are fantastic, creating the perfect ambiance for a shawarma spot. One thing I would highly recommend is adding kunafa to the menu (perhaps in a small, single-serving size), as it would make the perfect dessert to pair with the shawarma.

Yelp
Excellent!! Loved the pita wrap and the free sample falafel while waiting. It was so fresh and loved the crunch !
google avatar

Mai N.

Yelp
Came in with high expectations based on the food truck reputation. Disappointed that they no longer sell steak, so we defaulted to 2 chicken wraps. Ordered in store at 730pm on a bustling Saturday. Order came out at 8pm. The wraps were still hot when we got home. The bread was nicely toasted and packaged tightly and neat. The meat was inconsistent, some bites dry and some grilled nicely. The fries inside were very distracting, so bland, under seasoned, under cooked. Enjoyed the pickles but they were unevenly distributed. Generous amounts of garlic sauce which I prefer, but it's not for everyone. Overall, hesitant to return, unless they can improve on consistency, offer steak, or offer modifications (leave out the bland fries please).

Yelp
Best Chicken Shawarma in the DMV. Service was great - we were given a free sample of the falafel. Easy place for kids- outdoor seating too!!!!

Yelp
Yalapita serves up a fantastic chicken shawarma wrap that stands out in both flavor and quality. The wrap is generously filled with tender, well-marinated chicken, bursting with spices that strike the perfect balance. The freshness of the ingredients is clear, with crisp pickles and a creamy, tangy sauce that ties everything together beautifully. The service at Yalapita is equally commendable. The staff is friendly, attentive, and quick, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a meal, they make you feel welcome and well cared for. The combination of delicious food and top-notch service makes Yalapita a must-visit for anyone craving a great chicken shawarma wrap.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Falafel is fabulous. Weekend steak is out of the world. Chicken wrap is garlic heaven. Add some spicy pepper sauce for a twist. The owners and service are also warm and welcoming. Definitely a go-to. Enjoy!

Yelp
Incredible food!! Best in the area truly! And the service was so beyond wonderful! Such kind staff

Sobhi Z E.

Yelp
Best Shawarma sandwich this side of the Atlantic, that applies to both the chicken and meat (meat Shawarma available on on Friday, Saturday and Sunday only) For the vegetarian Friends try the falafel it's also great It's a small place and it does get crowded sometimes so you might have to wait for few minutes. Very friendly atmosphere

S R.

Yelp
Very generous about steak portion, very soft tender and good quality. loved it! awesome customer service!
google avatar

Ria P.

Yelp
The first time I visited this place on a Sunday at 3pm, as I walked in, no greeting, just two men working in the back kitchen area, and 2 customers waiting, I left the place after being ignored for 10 min. I decided to visit for a second time the following weekend at 5pm on Saturday, the place was very busy they explained there would be a 15-20min wait for a chicken shawarma, so opted for the falafel wrap which was made quickly, but was just ok, served cold with small cut tomatoes and lemon rind and a small amount of sauce, really need more mint and more sauce/hummus, as it was too dry, wish they would put other salad, not just tomatoes.
google avatar

Amy W.

Yelp
The food and service are great! I highly recommend the chicken shawarma wrap. The workers are very friendly.

Trey D.

Yelp
The guy who took my order is unbelievably nice and polite! I could recommend this place on service alone.

Isam E.

Yelp
Great food for our family. I tried the "Challenge" wrap and loved it. All other sandwiches and wrap combos are delicious. Service is really friendly. Good job.

Reyna P.

Yelp
No pics cause I ate it too fast. The chicken schwarma wrap is HUGE! Easily a meal for two, and it was so mouth wateringly tasty. The combination of flavors is heavenly! The sweet and spicy sauce is also so good! I WILL be requesting this as my birthday dinner every year.

Dayna C.

Yelp
Authentic Jordanian + Palestinian style shawerma, so delicious and really friendly service. Only place I've found around here that uses shrak bread, feels like a taste of Amman. Definitely recommend it.

Monica F.

Yelp
Excellent hospitality and authentic east Mediterranean cuisine. My mother and I attempted to order the salad and were implored by the owner to order the shawarma wrap, their speciality. I caved in and leveled up to the combo to receive vegetables, fries, sauces, and a canned soda for $6 more. The value was excellent. My mother may order the wrap or rice bowl next time because she did not appreciate how watery her salad got and that the meat quickly became cold served on top of the fresh vegetables and lettuce bed. We felt very accommodated in this cozy place that is decorated in a welcoming and familial way with music of the region playing in the background and what appears to be family members hanging around. I hope to return!

Doaa E.

Yelp
The best shawarma in town... mouthwatering.. the real authentic taste of Shawarma... I loved the place and the hospitality.. took me back the Middle East vibes... great staff.. Saleh and Moe are adorable... will definitely come back with my friends isa. Finally I can eat good shawarma sandwiches

Zach R.

Yelp
Tried it for the first time today. Very friendly and welcoming staff. We ordered the Shi Shawarma and the Steak Shawarma. Very authentic and tastes amazing. Highly recommended. Can't wait to come back soon.

Delia P.

Yelp
The shawarma was absolutely delicious and the staff were very friendly! It was our first time there and they offered us complimentary falafel. They were very helpful with us making a decision and they explained the menu and what they can offer to our daughter who is a super picky eater. We'll definitely go back!

Judy R.

Yelp
Amazing food and very friendly owner. While we were waiting for our order he gave us falafel that was delicious. We will definitely return
