We were invited to Yama to celebrate a family member's wedding. We were told our reservation was set, and they raved about the food and service. We were a little nervous to venture out, but also excited to see if we could have possibly found a new sushi spot we'd go to- it was a miss unfortunately.
When we were seated, I'm not sure if the party we had contained more people than originally spoken with when the reservations were made, but we weren't seated together. We were split between a long booth, and two tables. One person took orders for drinks, then another person came and asked us for our drink orders, then again, another person came to take app orders. At first we thought because we were a party of 20, we'd have a team assisting us to ease some of the craziness with the AYCE ordering. Then, some appetizers were coming, and they kept coming, and orders were still being taken, which I thought was neat.
The beginning was decent; but then we were brought repeated orders multiple times. We were able to share them, but eventually it got old. After some more ordering, and more orders coming in, we decided to ask Flores, a server what we were still expecting. When I tried to ask, my sister tried to say that we were getting multiple orders, and she rudely cut her off asking, "Well what are you waiting for?!" I stepped in and said, "we are asking because we keep receiving the same items over and over and we don't know who keeps repeating the order." We wanted to order dessert and leave, but it just took so much time to get to that point. Some of our drinks went unrefilled, and we had to ask several times for refills, some orders took a long time, and the nigiri I tried, like the yellowtail and "garlic" tuna was warm, and did not taste good.
The servers we had were all rude except one who is tall, slender and has piercings all over their nose and ears, the sweetest and most patient person there. The sushi, apps, and the dessert was mediocre, the strange names were not entertaining to me at all, and the sushi wasn't even worth the wait, because it did not taste fresh at all. If Yama had no staff, or did not have the patience to serve 20, they should have said that to my sister when she called for the reservation. I personally will not be back, the food was not good, and the service left a bad taste in my mouth.
