It’s a nice place, centrally located, and could be considered the best Turkish restaurant around. But how good is “the best,” really? During our last visit, the bread was stale and hard—it didn’t have its previous freshness. I think the food used to taste better in recent months or years. Still, it’s not bad now, except for the bread. Also, the chicken soup has changed; the previous recipe was better.
My favorites are the special chicken casserole and the Develi pide (though it sometimes arrives slightly cold—if it were served hotter, it would be even better). It’s also a nice place for breakfast; however, the menemen isn’t quite the traditional one—it’s more like eggs with tomato paste. They could switch to a recipe closer to the Turkish original.
Even so, it’s a place I’ll visit again. It’s abroad, and for a Turkish restaurant in a central location in England, I guess this is as good as it gets.
