Yelp
Yamashiro in downtown Miami had a really good vibe. Just make reservations in advance. It's inside a hotel on the 9th floor, so you'll either valet ($22) or get dropped off by Uber/Lyft out front.
The restaurant is great for private date night, a double date, or even a night out with friends. The staff were on point, Britney took care of us (party of 4) and she was amazing. It was extremely clean, from the tables to the seats to the bathrooms. Definitely an upscale spot. They had a live DJ who knew how to keep the vibe flowing nicely for a Friday night.
The only downside for me were the drinks. Their specialty cocktails are premade and they could not make any adjustments. For example, I couldn't switch the brand of vodka or request light syrup, which was disappointing. So I went with a simple vodka soda and a splash of juice. It was fine, but nothing memorable. I really wish they allowed liquor or light ingredient swaps for their specialty drinks.
Food-wise, though, everything was great:
- Garden Salad = 5 stars! (Very fresh and the dressing was delicious).
- Gyoza Wagyu = 5 stars! (perfectly pan-seared, tomato-based, very flavorful)
- Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice = 4 stars. (The rice had a nice crunch and the tuna was good, but nothing to set it apart from other tuna on crispy rice dishes I have had.)
- Rock Shrimp Tempura = 5 stars! (The tempura was crunchy and shrimp was nicely seasoned)
- Wagyu Skewers = 4 stars. (Pieces of meat on a stick, the seasoning was good, the meat was cooked medium and not dry at all.)
- Saikyo Miso Salmon = 5 stars! (Wow! perfectly cooked, very soft, and the skin was crispy.)
Cauliflower = 4 Stars. (It was a good vegetable side nothing crazy in terms of flavor, the green goddess sauce was good but nothing incredible.)
- Miso Butter Corn = 4 Stars. (I did not try this one but my husband, and our sister/brother in law said that it had good flavor but awkward to eat because of the ribbed cut. I'd prefer to see brussels sprouts on the menu instead.)
- Crispy Kale & Shiso = 5 Stars! (I also did not try this vegetable side but my sister in law and brother in law enjoyed the kale side.)
- Yamashiro Roll = 5 stars! (My husband loved this roll and would get it again. I did not get a photo.)
Yamashiro was definitely pricey for four people who ordered two drinks each, but that's expected in Miami. Not a place we'd go all the time, but we're glad we experienced it. Giving it a 4.3 star rating Wishing Yamashiro Miami continued success!
