NYC Sushi Delivery: Restaurants Still Open During Coronavirus | Eater NY

"This Flushing favorite is a Seamless and UberEats mainstay, delivering a solid menu of Japanese American sushi restaurant staples: rock shrimp tempura, spicy tuna tartar, rolls combos, and bento boxes. Have fun with chef’s special rolls, like the Dynamite (spicy salmon and yellow cucumber topped with lobster salad and crunch), and the Spicy Girl (spicy tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, and crunch topped with tobiko)." - Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner

Google
This place is our absolute favorite and has been for a long time. The sushi is consistently the best and they get it right EVERY TIME. Prices are very reasonable and the place is the cleanest establishment I've ever been to. They don't serve alcohol but you can bring your own and there's a liquor store right next door so that's super convenient. Definitely give them a try!

Google
Wonderful hosts who produce excellent dishes. You won't wait long. Menu has a fairly large selection - it goes beyond sushi! It can get crowded, the place isn't that big, but meals come quick so if you have to wait for a seat, it shouldn't be too long. Yes, you should try this place.

Google
I was completely blown away by the selection of specialty rolls and ended up ordering way too much food. My favorites were the Heather Roll and the Ayman Roll But it was all so delicious and the staff is very friendly! We will be back!

Google
Tried this spot for the first time tonight, we had an excellent dinner! The sushi was delicious and the staff was incredibly friendly, we even got free fried Oreos with our dinner! I would certainly recommend this place and I will definitely be back!

Google
First time here, it is was a wonderful experience. So much variety in rolls and can customize if needed. Everything we ordered was amazing. Fast and friendly service. Will definitely be back. Did not take pictures of the food, bur cannot go wrong. Yummy! Parking is easy and BYOB!

Google
My favorite sushi place forever! Danny and his family run a great establishment. I’ve eaten their salmon avocado rolls for going on 20 years now. The best service, and a lovely spot for catching up with a friend.

Google
Everything was amazing. We are always looking for new spots and this place has amazing options.

Google
Place was packed but the wait was not too long and it was worth it. We enjoyed our dinner , everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. It's not a super fancy place but the food was great.

Yelp
I came here with my goddaughter and cousin after doing a college tour nearby. We were craving sushi since the tour guide mentioned it so I went to my trusty Yelp for a recommendation on the best in the area. Yamato is nestled in a shopping center so parking was no problem. We were greeted and served by the hilarious and sweet Sunny. He has been working there for 16 years and I hope he continues. The girls and I ordered shrimp shumai for an appetizer, the JR roll, a red snapper roll and a father & son roll. The teens loved their JR roll because it was real lump crab meat on top and I loved my father & son roll recommended by Sunny because it had so many layers of flavor. We later met Denny who I believe was the owner, but he was a pleasure to talk to and him and Sunny are hilarious together. Because it was our 1st time, they gave us a complimentary fried Oreo dessert with whip cream and the girls were so excited for it. We had a great experience at Yamato and they literally have 4 pages of just all sushi options. We can't wait to return and if the girls chose this college, we will definitely make it an annual thing to visit Yamato.

Yelp
Love this place! The ambiance, the friendly and entertaining staff and of course the delicious food. The prices are very reasonable too. My only suggestion would be to fry the deep fried Oreos longer. They were a bit too soft.

Yelp
Service was right on, everyone was polite & aimed to please.. We ordered the Nancy roll and the Nyann plus sashimi. Everything was delicious. We brought our own beer & saki, they provided the glasses. It was my birthday so they brought me a plate with green tea ice cream mochi & 2 fried Oreo cookies, the candle in wasabi. It seemed everyone there joined in singing Happy Birthday. The owner, manager and server couldn't have been more helpful. The ambiance was mellow.

Yelp
Yamato Sushi is one of my favorite restaurant. The location offers plenty of parking, and they're nice shopping Plaza nearby for added convenience. The customer service is excellent, and the ambience is most comfortable in family friendly, everyone greeted us with a smile, making for a warm and welcoming experience, I ordered the wonton soup, Kani salad and Dynamite roll -everything was delicious ! If you in the area, I highly recommend to checking it out!!

Yelp
Love their lunch special! Used to get it all the time when I worked closer. The Jason Roll is a classic!

Scotti S.

Yelp
I love this place! I'm a regular and order almost every week. They know me, my order and they make me feel like family. The sushi is always excellent! I highly recommend Yamato!
google avatar

Yelp
Yamato Sushi was excellent. I of course cannot remember the name of the three rolls I ordered but one of them, the Morgan, out of this world. Great service and food came out quickly. Restaurant is located in a shopping plaza with great parking. Super casual as well. I would come back and recommend.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Service was great and the atmosphere was dynamite just like the shrimp.

Yelp
The nigiri sushi is excellent! The fish is fresh and tender. Other items aren't on the level of the nigiri sushi. The veggie roll is kind of sweet. The spicy tuna roll I guess was pretty good if you like spicy tuna. The seafood udon wasn't that great--soggy noodles and tough seafood. I would definitely return for the nigiri sushi and maybe some of the rolls but would exercise caution with the other dishes. They also have tempura Oreos which are interesting and kind of tasty but greasy, not too surprisingly. Staff is very nice and friendly. They even let us have a free sample of the tempura Oreos!
google avatar

Charles C.

Yelp
Excellent sushi and Hibachi. Atmosphere is in need of improvement. Too much take out being picked up ruins the dining experience. Cold drafts from the door opening in winter. They need a barrier between pickup and dining room.
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
Good lunch spot. Not much for ambience but the service is quick the food was good and they have a huge menu. Take your time looking through all their rolls.

Juanika B.

Yelp
I stopped in one day for lunch in search of the best sushi in the area. Well I found it! The location was small, yet welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious. I was seated immediately at the sushi bar. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was fresh and flavorful. My water glass never ran empty. I will absolutely return.

Holly S.

Yelp
The rolls were about two thirds full and poorly wrapped. We even questioned if the fish was what we ordered as one tasted more like chicken than fish. Had high hopes because of the rating and how many people were there. Don't waste your time or money!

Yelp
If you're looking for a good, fast, easy night out in Baltimore and are in the mood for Japanese food, then I could not recommend this place enough! Been a few times and have gotten the sushi before, every time the fish tastes very fresh. However, last night I got the shrimp and vegetable tempura entree, which on the menu, said it came with miso soup. I didn't realize until the end of the meal that the soup never came out. This is the first time anything like that has happened to me there though, I don't think it's a habit. Still 5 stars... all because of the friendly staff and welcoming environment. Every time, they offer free fried oreos and fun flavored gum at the end of the meal, and this time they gave us a free bag of walnut cookies to celebrate the new year! Great atmosphere, good food.

Yelp
Good sushi! It seems like this place has a lot of regulars and was basically completely full by 7 PM on a Monday night so that's usually a good sign! Yamato is BYOB and doesn't charge a corkage fee which is pretty cool, there's also a liquor store in the same plaza you can stop by before coming in. Yamato has a very extensive menu, with options for appetizers, teriyaki, tempura, and of course, sushi. There are so many rolls it was hard to choose! We've been on the hunt for good sushi since moving to Towson and were decently impressed by all 4 specialty rolls that we got (in order from top favorite: Mike Roll, Tiger Tail Roll, Fire Mountain Roll, and Manna Roll.) We also got egg rolls to start, but probably wouldn't get them again--they were nothing special. Saves more room for the sushi!! Very excited to come back and try more of their specialty rolls!
google avatar

Monica B.

Yelp
For now, I al giving this place 4 stars. Came here for the first time last week and had their lunch special and an eggplant appetizer. The eggplant appetizer was delicious, well prepared, and had a crunch factor to it, I just wish the sauce had been thicker. Their sushi was fresh and tasty. The miso soup was just okay, and their shumai were excellent. The server seemed to be in a rush and was very particular about how he wanted us to order the lunch; he wanted us to write the code associated with what we wanted on a piece of paper. Although this is usually done for a la carte sushi, it was a very particular request. The place felt like it had a lot happening during lunch time. I will return to try some more options.

Yelp
Delicious delicious delicious! First time here Staff was helpful with helping me make selections on what I would like. One for the win!

Yelp
Our go to sushi spot in town for over 10 years. Always fresh, great service and reasonably priced for the basics. This time started with miso, split a seaweed salad and had assortment of basic rolls & some eel. All great. We love the long time owner and the fact that they are byob. Never have tried their meal options like Thai but seem popular with others. Highly recommend.

Megan B.

Yelp
Service was fast and courteous, food was delicious! We got 5 different rolls, some sashimi and miso soup. The fried rolls were crispy, the fish was fresh and everything was well made. For a Monday night the place was packed, I'm surprised I only just found out about the place after having lived in the area for so long.

Yelp
The food was sublime and the service was impeccable... A wonderful dining experience.

Yelp
Perhaps one shouldn't review in distress but I'm going to go for it anyway. The sushi quality here is without a doubt good. And the staff are efficient and kind. What irks me is that in looking back at my photos, I realized I've been had. This most recent time, I ordered S5 - Chirashi for $15.95. I was a bit disappointed that it was solely 8 slices of sashimi, no tamago or the other usual garnishes but the slices were generous. Funny though, when I went to upload my new photo, Yelp served me my prior one, which was the L8 - Sashimi Lunch Special for $14.95. Don't you know it was identical to my Chirashi order but cost a dollar less and included a miso soup. While in the grand scheme of things, not a huge deal I guess but certainly disappointing. Well, now you know - so don't make the same mistake I did. You're welcome.

Amie D.

Yelp
10 stars. This was the first restaurant I went to when I moved to Towson, and I was greeted like family when I sat down at the bar! The chef knows what he's doing, the fish is fresh, and they give you fortune cookies... not much more to ask for.

Yelp
My brother and I came here during my birthday weekend to try sushi outside of Baltimore. We got the sashimi deluxe, which came with 15 pieces, and 2 special rolls (forgot the names). So delicious! Especially the sashimi. Our food was reasonably priced as well. The waiter was friendly too! He said my brother looks Vietnamese and I look Spanish, which I've never gotten LOL. The place is a little small and the path to the bathroom should be shorter but other than that, everything was like I expected at your typical sushi restaurant. I wouldn't mind coming here again especially for the sashimi!
google avatar

Thuong N.

Yelp
This place has many different sushi menus. There are a lot of choice. The sushi names re too funny coz they named it after people's names. The price is similar to many other sushi place. Customer service is okay. They gave us desserts after finishing the food, which was really nice.
google avatar

Nicole H.

Yelp
Private parking lot. Nice looking place. So many maki rolls to choose from. Whatever your budget or diet, they have a roll for you. I unfortunately can't remember the tolls I had but they were tasty. Picture attached. I enjoyed and I understand why they have a 4.5 rating which was (is) a key factor for me trying new restaurants.

Sarah G.

Yelp
Excellent! The top quality and quantity of sushi and kitchen dishes for the prices make this a favorite choice for sushi. Their prices have barely gone up in 10 years. The protein and vegetables in cooked dishes are high quality and plentiful. All of their cooked dishes easily could be reasonably priced at 50% higher. Easily the sushi could be $1-3 more per roll. The sushi always is beautifully prepared and delicious. Takeout always is accurate and well-packaged with attentive and immediate service. Tonight we enjoyed tuna teriyaki (two nicely sized pieces) with an assortment of beautifully prepared vegetables, stringbeans and shrimp (generous portion of large shrimp), a spicy tuna roll, a salmon avocado roll, a shittake mushroom roll, an asparagus roll, and miso soup.

Kierra C.

Yelp
The food is delicious! str8 pressure! the customer service was amazing! and the atmosphere was as relaxing and peaceful. I will definitely be back frequently! I love this sushi place! if I could give it 100 stars I would!
google avatar

Mo T.

Yelp
This is some of the best sushi I've had in the Baltimore area. I got the Amy roll, the eel+avocado roll, and the crispy snapper roll. Everything was fresh, delicious, and excellently proportioned. The crab rangoon were great as well. Super speedy and carefully attentive service, reasonably priced, and BYOB. What's not to like?
google avatar

Kay-Lee H.

Yelp
I've visited this restaurant twice now - once for dine-in and once for carry-out. It is BYOB which is really nice. The spicy mayo is definitely different than I'm used to, but it is still delicious. It is sweeter to me than what I usually have with sushi. Dining in was nice because it is a smaller restaurant, and there weren't many people inside, so it was a quiet atmosphere. Pictures attached are from the dine-in experience. Our server was very polite and attentive without being overbearing which was the perfect balance. My carry-out experience was even better! I stopped in on my way home from work on afternoon (because let's face it - I needed sushi on a Wednesday to survive the week) and I felt very welcomed. I was offered to sit and provided a glass of water while ordering. While waiting for my order, one of the men sat and talked with me to keep me company. They have a large selection of sushi as well as entrees, lunch combos, etc. We will definitely be back!

David H.

Yelp
I can't speak to the ambience or service, as my spouse picks up our orders on the way home. I can write enthusiastically about the quality and reliability of the food. Yamato is a kind of Roll Heaven. Its menu lacks the 57 varieties of fish and crustaceans that fill the glass cases at most sushi joints . instead, they specialize on rolls that their somewhat confusing menu offers without duplicates across a numbers of pages. Along with all the rolls, there are all the pretty much standard appetizers. I'm especially fond of the.yakitori, but the takoyaki (octopus balls) are even better, with a flavourful custard-like interior. Try it!
google avatar

Aubrey F.

Yelp
Great service and food! Our waiter brought out water when needed and checked on us throughout our meal. We ordered the Rainbow Roll, the Philly Roll, and the Veggie Roll. Our rolls came out very quickly! Everything was fresh and tasted great!

A K.

Yelp
I used to regular this place, however, on my last occasion dining here i got food poisoning. I am assuming it was from the rice which was slimy and tasted a bit off- was probably left out too long.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm a big fan of sushi and I've been able to eat in many different restaurants. With that said, I thought Yamato Sushi is one of the best places I've had sushi. My girlfriend and I ordered around 5-6 different rolls ranging from eel to salmon to their specialty rolls. I appreciated the fact that I could see the people preparing our food behind the sushi bar. Additionally, our server was attentive of us which was helpful because I ordered more after finishing our initial food. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm in the sense that you can tell most people who are there are regulars. It's obvious that the staff know their customers and it's really cool to see relationships like that especially during COVID. Overall, I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Japanese sushi in Baltimore.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Great option for Sushi - really tasty and as I was with my kids and my youngest was being a fuss bag, the owner suggested dumplings which my boy not only ate up but wanted more of. It's BYOB and there is a liquor store further down so what more could you want? If you are a sushi snob look no further.
google avatar

Morgan B.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to get sushi! Super quick service and food is always fresh. Highly recommend
google avatar

Larry G.

Yelp
We called multiple times at 6:00 pm and no answer. I am not sure if the place is still open

Sydney B.

Yelp
I ordered from Yamato for the first time today. Here is what I ordered and my thoughts: - Danielle Salad: good! I added a little Saracha at home for some spice. I wish there was more seaweed salad than cucumbers. - Double Dragon Roll: very tasty, but I felt cheated. It was a "special roll" with a special price ($14.95), but was tiny and the same amount as regular roll. Additionally, avocado was only on 3 pieces. The eel was only on 2 pieces. Each piece should be consistent, especially when you pay for it. - Yellowtail scallion: what you see is exactly what it is. It is yellowtail and cucumber with little pieces of scallion sprinkled on top. I thought the scallions would be integrated inside of the roll. The fish itself tasted good and fresh. Overall, it tasted good. I just don't think what I got was worth $30

Yelp
This small establishment is amazing . Met Brian at a house party , decided to check it out . His dad was there gave us excellent service. The rolls were amazing ! Fresh food and very clean atmosphere. thank you!! definitely recommend .

Yelp
The best salmon skin handrolls around. I have never had it as crispy and tasty as these. Definitely their signature item.

Yelp
I love everything about this restaurant! It has become our favorite local sushi spot to visit on the weekends for a delicious and casual meal. In short, we have experienced a very welcoming atmosphere, high levels of costumer service and professionalism from the staff, super fresh fish, a wide variety of menu options, and great desert choices! While the restaurant doesn't have alcohol, you can bring your own. You can also ask your waiter to keep it cold in the fridge if needed. In more detail, my favorite items on the menu this far are the following: - Nyann roll - Evolution roll - Tuna tar tar (a MUST HAVE!) - Green tea ice cream We have been here a couple of times and have experienced great costumer service. All recommendations from the staff, particularly Bryan, have been excellent! Make sure to ask questions, they will guide you to the best options. I can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Kris D.

Yelp
Best sushi in the area, the fish quality is top notch. I love their mackerel, and I pretty much exclusively eat nigiri so fish quality is the most important thing. Seafood soup is also so good - i highly recommend trying it. Either small or large as an app, or a seafood soup with udon as a meal. One of my favourite things on the menu.
google avatar

Jamie R.

Yelp
Yamato sushi is a family owned business that treats its customers exactly like family! This restaurant is BYOB and there is a liquor store just next to the establishment; how convenient! The space is small and the restaurant was slammed but everyone worked together to accommodate the guests. The sushi is absolutely spectacular. I went to a Super Bowl party where Yamato was catering the sushi and fell in love. I had to give the restaurant a shot. My fiance and I ordered edamame and seafood soup to start. The portion of edamame is sizable and the seafood soup is a small, but adequate portion in a clean broth with fish, calamari, and mushrooms. It is tasty and light. We ordered a few rolls on the specials and they were absolutely delicious. Everything was so fresh and expertly rolled. For dessert we got green tea ice cream and mango mochi ! We also tried the fried Oreos!:0 Needless to say, the dessert was delightful. We will soon return . We sat at the bar and saw some awesome rolls and apps being prepared. We'll make sure to try the tuna tartare on our next visit. That was prepared in an elegant glass and looked quite nice. A special shout out to Bryan and the fam for making us feel at home! Cheers!

Yelp
Cute little sushi spot Tucktaway in the shopping mall off Padonia Road... Really enjoyed my roll one was the spicy tuna and I can't remember the other name but both were really delicious and we had a lovely kind server who treated us to a fried Oreo dessert to share. So thoughtful and I definitely will be back at the service was lovely. Follow me @foodiefei on Instagram!

Yelp
First time visit. A buddy and I were free from our wives for the evening and we both had a yen for sushi! My friend had been here many times, so, Yamato was the natural decision. Since Yamato is BYOB, I went to a nearby adult beverage emporium and bought two, although I really needed one, tall cans of Sapporo. My friend brought his own wine. After a short wait, we were seated. Service was as smooth and efficient as a Toyota assembly line, but friendlier and pleased to serve the customer. My friend had a few deluxe special rolls that were gluten Free but looked and, as my friend would testify, tasty. I ordered a couple of California rolls, a smoked salmon roll, a rainbow roll and a firecracker roll. Everything was great, tasty and fun to devour. Yum. The menu features a wide range of other dishes as well. I really like this place and hope to make Yamato my frequent sushi destination.
google avatar

Yelp
The entrées are great but I love the sushi here! Sushi is amazing!!! great customer service and staff always smiling always happy. Also great fried Oreos for dessert! I highly recommend this place. I love this place with all my heart

Yelp
Love the sushi from Yamato. This is my BF's family go to sushi place for family birthdays, special occasions, etc. Whenever we get together here we normally get two huge sushi boats and an assortment of rolls for the table. This restaurant is BYOB which is awesome. They give you chilled glasses for your wine and even have wine ice packs they will bring to your table to keep your chilled wines cool- talk about service! They also have fried Oreos for dessert (my fav) and brought us some fresh melon to the table. Service was great, waitresses were very friendly and were very attentive to refilling water and making sure everything was okay. I always look forward to coming to eat at Yamato!

Enrique R.

Yelp
Sushi is definitely good, it has good quality and taste. I had a couple of sushi and a salmons special called Bob's special I believe. Overall everything tasted good. Drink selection a can be better but not bad at all.
google avatar

Sara V.

Yelp
Was there last week and ordered tuna tartar. The tuna was very pale looking and it almost looked like it had some shine to it and I don't think it's supposed to look like that and it didn't taste right at all. I also ordered my husband chicken yakatori and all of the sauce for the skewers was in the foil so the chicken tasted very dry

Jae L.

Yelp
Well look at my picture and if you can guess what it is then you should eat here. I ordered a side dish when i shouldn't have. Stick to the sushi, its actually pretty decent... but i cant believe they served this to me. I honestly want you to guess and comment below.
