Google
I had the roast duck here and it was absolutely amazing! The skin was perfectly crispy, and the meat was juicy, flavorful, and tender. You can tell it’s freshly made and prepared with care. The portion was generous and paired really well with the house-made sauce and rice. Honestly, it reminded me of the authentic flavors you’d find in Asia. Friendly service, clean environment, and great value for the quality. If you’re a fan of duck, this place is a must-try. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Newton O.

Google
Great authentic Chinese food. The server was fast. The restaurant interior is clean. We came during dinner and there were lots of seats as most customers were ordering takeout.

Claire L.

Google
Solid Chinese-American restaurant ran by Cantonese people. They seemed short-staffed due to COVID so please be patient. I called in for order and was told 30 min wait time - no biggie! SUPPORT LOCAL !! We got the pepper and salt pork chop - juicy and fried to perfection! Recommended. The fish with black bean sauce is solid too. I will ask for spicy next time for that extra kick. Great service. People wear masks.

Audy V.

Google
New restaurant, delicious food, we eat string beens and beef chao fun. This was a rice noodle gluten free and we asked to have later gluten free soy sauce. Staff were courteous and we liked the service. A must visit. They have delivery with Uber Eats!

Chris S.

Google
Authentic Cantonese cuisine. All the food was good. From the wonton soup, the chicken and broccoli and the Chow Mein. The server was very helpful. My wife loved the salted chili chicken wings.

Jeronimo M.

Google
A MUST TRY! These guys are excellent cooks and their food shows it. We tried the brocoly beef, shrimp dumplings, and broccoli beef. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!! Definitely recommend to eat in if you can but order out through an app. Small, humble, and definitely gourmet!! 🙏

Google
my husband and i love ordering delivery from y&j gourmet! we’ve never had a dish we didn’t like, and the service has always been friendly and prompt. ordering y&j on nye has become a tradition and we always order a tonne of food so we have leftovers for days. highly recommend the spicy eggplant and spicy chicken wontons! they also have monthly specials if you subscribe to their emails. thanks for another delicious nye meal, y&j!

Google
Today we tried this place for the first time and it was delicious! First of all, the staff here were very friendly, helpful and attentive. The food we ordered (egg rolls, house fried rice and chicken wings) were hot, fresh and flavorful. We can’t speak highly enough of our experience here. We are planning to come back the next time we’re in Pasadena.

Yelp
Slightly tricky finding street parking. Just park in the Vallarta lot near starbucks and cross the street. Its not too bad Food is good. Big portions. Friendly staff. Good service. Price is reasonable compared to other restaurants these days. Overall a pretty good value for what you pay for

Yelp
Our first time here It was okay good service overall just okay I'm giving 3 stars. Clean but I didn't like they didn't have Jazmine hot tea
google avatar

Xuemei Z.

Yelp
The new decoration of the store is so beautiful. The environment is very clean. The service is excellent! The owner gave us spring rolls. We'll come again next time. The parking space is a bit inconvenient.
google avatar

Maggie C.

Yelp
This place is delicious! Portions are big and food is pippin' hot. Ordered orange chicken, kung pao tofu, green beans and chow fun noodle with pork. All items were tasty but my favorite was unexpectedly the kung pao tofu!! My partner loves a good braised dish so he approved. The pork in the chow fun was really hard to eat like overcooked and tough? Otherwise everything was bomb!

James C.

Yelp
They forgot a food item once again. When you call them they just try to tell you they will give you a credit the next time and not fix the problem!! When I told them we wouldn't order again they just took my name and number and hung up. Stay away!!

Anna Z.

Yelp
Very yummy and clean. We've been here multiple times and they also have great service. Good place for convenient Chinese food
google avatar

Virgie M.

Yelp
Great shrimp dumplings and chicken string beans with brown garlic sauce was pretty good. I loved the flavors. Definitely get hoisin for the shrimp rolls
google avatar

Ely G.

Yelp
The bbq pork they added to Wor Wonton soup is sooo stale. The whole container ended in the trash. Never again will I order from this store.

Yelp
I'll be honest, my appreciation for this place is all around how NY it feels. I don't mean high quality, I mean corner Chinese restaurant, late night, Full of flavor, packed in a container, an ambiance that makes you feel like you're probably in the wrong neighborhood. Haha! But it was so nostalgic I couldn't shut up about it. The orange chicken is a MUST. That's all I can really vouch for. If you're not from NY, you might not get the charm. Prices were definitely not uptown NY, but hey, it's Pasadena.

Ada L.

Yelp
so delicious and great service. clean resturant and authentic chinese food. recommend to friends

Lydia A.

Yelp
To be honest the food itself is totally fine. I've never had a major problem with the food itself. And I've never had issues with the owners or drivers in any negative way But usually when I order I'm too tired to pick it up and since its close by I figure it can't take that long. But each time I've ordered I've had to call and ask where my food is. Which is frustrating because it seems like there's always "something wrong with the system". And they're always apologetic about it but I have no idea whats going on when I order from their own website that the order never gets sent out unless I call to ask where it is. The first time it happened the store almost closed before I got me food. Again the food is fine for me but I definitely recommend picking it up instead of delivery.
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
The best Chinese food I've had within Pasadena city limits. Not much to look at, you'll want to get it to go, but the food is delicious and generous. I use a basic Kung Pao as my measure of a restaurant's attention to craft, and theirs is great. The bao is recommended, as well as the combination fried rice.
google avatar

Misael S.

Yelp
I've been living in Pasadena for about a decade, I see it every time I drive to the market across the street. Never had this food till tonight. It's was on a whim that my girlfriend and I ended up enjoying some delicious egg rolls and beef chow fun. Looking forward to trying more options from now on.
google avatar

JP L.

Yelp
Overall a good spot, there was no wait to be seated when we arrived. The portions are great, and the food tasty without being too salty. I was craving roasted duck that day but they were out so settled for the salt & pepper fish, shrimp fried rice. The service was excellent and felt like they were really happy for us to be there. Will come back for the duck
google avatar

Larissa R.

Yelp
The best wonton soup ever. It's more for takeout, but they have a few tables if you want to eat there. Their orange chicken is quite spicy and a bit dry. They also have Square loyalty points so you can get free menu items after accumulating them.
google avatar

Tom R.

Yelp
I've been here a handful of times. During lockdown, they were great. Friendly service and the food was great. Since they've tried to create an dine-in experience it's made me question a lot of what's going on there. The times I've come to pick up my food, the girl or man behind the counter was incredibly rude. Not at all engaged or welcoming. The place is a mess inside. It's dirty and half finished, depressing. The Egg Drop Soup was subpar... the corn tasted old as did the little fragments of chicken littering the bottom. Ample egg in it, but the soup was uninspired. This is one of those Chinese restaurants where it tastes like they're cooking with dirty water. I wish they had it together, but they don't. I can't recommend this place at all. Go to the Chinese place across the street in the Villartta Mall. Much better food and better people running it.

Jeremiah P.

Yelp
Experience the excitement of our newly remodeled space, where amazing quality food meets unbeatable prices--all in a convenient location! You won't want to miss out!
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
Great food and service. Love orange crispy beef. Thanks for great service. Chow mein was good.

Yoselin R.

Yelp
Good service, good food everything is clean Nothing else to said Buen servicio, buena comida todo esta limpio por dentro.

Ninoska C.

Yelp
Becareful if you order from this restaurant. The Crispy Egg Roll was burned and greasy. The Hot and Sour Soup had grease bubbles. It had an awful taste. The ShangHai Soft ChowMein with BBQ Pork had a bad smell. And it didn't taste good. I threw the food in the trash. The worse food that I had in years.
google avatar

Danny J.

Yelp
I don't understand how they're still in business. So much to say. Remember when i ordered food from doordash. Food was lacking flavor. Shrimp was rotten. Contacted support, and the restaurant denied my request for a refund. Bad business.
google avatar

Desiree Y.

Yelp
This is food you eat when you're high or drunk. Not worth the price. The restaurant looked like a mess.

Yelp
Food: 2/5 Service: N/A (Online Order) Ambiance: N/A (Online Order) Price: $$ ($10-20) I was craving Chinese food and Y&J Gourmet as the first recommendation on Yelp. After seeing the reviews, I was convinced to order a couple dishes through Uber. I place my order then I waited. The fact that I ordered from Uber, it does take a long time for the food to get to my doorstep. When it finally arrived, I was excited and found out that the hot steam already makes the orange chicken soggy. On top of that, I could not taste the aroma and the flavor of the orange in the chicken. Pretty much a disappointment at this point. It goes with the rest of the dishes. The vegetables fried rice particularly was bland. I wonder if they had forgotten to put salt or is there something wrong with my tongue. However, i'm not giving up on this restaurant because of others people review and the pictures on Yelp.

Yelp
Got some take out from y & j for the first time tonight, and well...I wish I didn't. The ma pao tofu and string bean dishes both had this horrible acidic/cleaning chemical taste to them. It took a lot to get the taste out of my mouth and honestly, I've eaten some funky stuff, but this is truly the most inedible food I've ever had. I also got the Mongolian beef which was wayyy too sweet and not enjoyable in the least. However there was one good item which was the BBQ pork buns. Perhaps there are other dishes that are good or they were having an off night, but I won't be coming back to find out.
google avatar

Rondell A.

Yelp
I ordered the Mapo Tofu and Braised Green Beans and I would order it again! The serving was generous and it was delicious, so what else can I say. The restaurant itself is catered for takeout and no dining. It's also located at the corner of tow bust streets so finding parking is a little difficult. I had to park around the corner near the neighborhood for pickup. The service was great tho. It didn't take long for my order to be ready for pick up. Overall, great experience and food. I'd order from this restaurant again.

Wesley E.

Yelp
Very great service and very nice food ! The inside looks cool as well, would recommend

Jonathan Y.

Yelp
Chicken and broccoli could be better, but Mongolian beef and sesame balls were good. Generous portions.
google avatar

Carrie M.

Yelp
I have ordered take out many times. Very good food and still hot at delivery. Kung Pao is good and spicy, and Garlic Chicken (w/out veggies for the kids) is popular around here. They have Peking Duck, which I ordered once and was nice, but they don't offer any of the accoutrements that usually go with it. I'm not Asian and don't know what else to do with this glorious duck without a wrapper of some sort, scallion, etc. I also wish they offered Mu Shu. Y & J is the best in the area for what we're looking for.
google avatar

Winn H.

Yelp
I've driven by Y&J Gourmet so many times and finally saw that they opened their doors. Not interested in cooking for the night, I decided to walk over for a daily special which was their fried noodles that night. I was almost overcharged until I appeared confused, and they corrected the charge quickly. While they were preparing my food, I waited outside at the side door. (Note: At the time of visit, they're still undergoing renovations after an event left their front door unusable.) If you're waiting alone outside at night on the street, though, it may feel a bit unsafe. The fried noodles were alright, and they tasted as expected. They were definitely on the saltier side, but they also tasted homemade which was nice. The BBQ pork slices were a little thin, and it was quite flimsy when compared to traditional BBQ Pork. There was also a slice of onion skin inside the food, which I didn't enjoy.

Yelp
Super tasty. Fresh ingredients. Delivered ahead of schedule. Good sized portions. Will definitely order again.

Yelp
So, on GrubHub, there's a place called Dim Sum Master at this same address. Food pics look exactly the same, so I'm gonna say it's their delivery service name. Delivered on time, nice and hot. Packaged well, but disappointed the dim sum didn't come with sweet sauce nor mustard. We ordered enough food for a family of 4 and they gave us 1 packet each of soy sauce and Sriracha. We ordered: BBQ Pork buns (5/5) Perfect balance of flavors, fluffy, delicious Shao Mai (5/5) Tender beautifully steamed yumminess. Luckily I had my own Chinese mustard and it paired heavenly. Orange Chicken (5/5) Spicy, lightly sauced, super tender and juice. Beef chow fun (2/5) Taste was just ok, but texture was completely off. The noodles were both under fried and overcooked. No noodle was longer than an inch because they were just this side of mushy, but there was zero char like you get on a good stir fried noodle, imo Mapo Tofu (1/5) So, we LOVE mapo tofu. I've made it at home and love Sichuan peppers, but this one was...super floral or basilly? and lemony, like it had lemon oil in it...a lot of it. It felt like I was eating tofu soaked in pledge. I ate a couple bites to see if it was just different than what I'm used to. My husband had one bite. We could not eat it. Is this a special type of mapo tofu or did someone seriously misjudge an ingredient? I'm baffled.

Yelp
This hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant was surprisingly good! I order four different dishes for Chinese new year's eve dinner, and they all come out delicious! I went to the shop around 1 pm for a pickup at 5:30 pm. The was ready at the designated time and warm. I ordered four dishes for three people and left with plenty of leftovers. My favorite was the honey walnut shrimp and crispy chicken wings. The parking area is tricky since they share a narrow entrance with an auto shop.
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
4.5 stars for the food, but you literally gotta go just for the food, the restaurant is a no frills place hole-in-the-wall (hence everyone else ordered to-go, BUT there were literally ppl ordering non-stop while we were there, and many regulars) We were craving sit-down family style Chinese food and this place came across our radar, it really hit the spot ---salt & pepper chicken wings: super crispy and JUICY. Just a note, there is some curry flavoring in the skin (we liked it but just a warning if you don't like curry). Comes with slice jalapeños that are actually spicy --string beans: well cooked with a snap, I think it's i an Oyster sauce --salt & pepper squid: nice airy breading and more of those spicy jalapeños --yeoung chow fried rice: nice balance to all the salty side dishes. DEFINITELY ask for their chili oil, we added to the rice NOTE: A bit pricey but food is good, we got free hot tea, waiter is super nice, and free parking in the back

J L.

Yelp
Yummy Wor wonton soup. Fill of wontons, shrimp & chicken. Initially i saw baby bok choy & thought "how will I cut it into manageable pieces ?" Amazingly, the veg was just cooked enuf so I could cut with a spoon & wasn't mush. Same for the carrots - just a tiny bit of chew. Broth was good. with the slightest hont of pepper. The chicken was cooked perfectly - not overcooked and still juicy. I think only Chinese cooks know how to do this (I wish Thai chefs would take a page from their cookbook. The shrimp were plump & springy. Yum The perfect meal for s cold night.

Kerry H.

Yelp
We dined in. Way too salty, we ended up take a couple bites and left. We tried to talk to the waiter but there's language barrier and he cannot even understand when we said "too salty, is it normal?" Also, the price on the menu isnt what they charged us. The "true price" is way higher than stated on the menu.
google avatar

Tracey H.

Yelp
No ambience but good for takeout and also has party trays. Roast duck and black bean fish were very good. Also liked the flat rice noodles.

Jen S.

Yelp
Loved the takeout here - fast and fresh! Some of the best shrimp with walnuts I've ever had.

Jesse B.

Yelp
Pros: food is delicious and affordable Cons: decor and seating - nothing really there Service is okay.
google avatar

Chewson H.

Yelp
Y & J is one of the few legit Chinese food restaurants in the area. It's not Americanized Chinese food. I ordered a few items from them and I have to say that it tastes exactly how I expected it to be; meaning it is tasting how it should be! The food was flavorful and the portion size was good too. Rice is free for an entree which is a plus. Most places charge for rice. Also, if you order for lunch you get 10% off! The employees are friendly and helpful. The pricing of the food is very fair and comparable to other Chinese restaurants. The only issue I had with this place is the parking. The parking is shared with like an auto repair shop and it's pretty tight. Driveway is not low car friendly and it's a pretty busy street as well so you don't really have much space/time to angle your car out of the driveway. Overall, really enjoyed my meal here and would definitely recommend and come back.
google avatar

Rj F.

Yelp
Hole in the wall gem!!! Open late and authentic food. We ordered so many amazing dishes but highly recommend: war wonton soup, shu mai, steamed dumplings, bao...fresh and hand made to order the way it should be. Service was on point - no time wasting , direct order at the cash register but still guy is patient and kind. Chefs in the back hustlin - like a said hole in the wall but if you know you know!

Mary P.

Yelp
The Hot and Sour Soup was disappointing. It was neither hot (spicy) nor sour. It seemed to have lumps of chicken fat in it, and there was not much flavor. Everything else we ordered tasted fine. The delivery was faster than we expected, and the food was a good temperature.
google avatar

jean claude b.

Yelp
Its damn good and pricey but worth the money if you want to step your game up from Panda.
google avatar

Thessa V.

Yelp
Delicious and a must return spot! I've been eyeing the place for some time and not sure if it's actually open and after placing a to go order, food was piping hot, delicious and very seriously difficult to put down/away. It was a little more on the price/cost than I expected, as one sort of assumes with a quiet not exactly a sit down/dine shop, but it is very delicious and portions are good!

Mary C.

Yelp
Excellent! Had phoenix chicken, dumplings and noodles! Big portions. Egg rolls were tasty.

Rosa N.

Yelp
The orange chicken and fried calamari is the best! This is my new go to Chinese takeout place.
google avatar

Albert B.

Yelp
I ordered the Yang chow fried rice and for someone that eats authentic Chinese all the time I must tell you it was pretty nasty. It was missing flavor and authenticity. Needs major improvement

April A.

Yelp
I found them based on its Yelp reviews and we were happy with the food for our organization's Chinese New Year Celebration. The Shanghai Chow Mein noodles were a hit, as was the Broccoli Chicken with Garlic Sauce. The Steam Pork Dumplings were a favorite and the Sweet & Sour Fish was gone quickly. The cashier was so very patient with my ordering and was polite, from the initial call through the pickup of the order. He even reversed the delivery charge, our original intention, but someone picked it up instead. *We definitely will be returning, as an individual and organization. We highly recommend them. Y & J Gourmet is on Orange Grove, in the corner building. It is right up to the sidewalk, on the corner intersection at Fair Oaks. The entrance is directly facing the intersection. Park in the back, entering from Fair Oaks, on the driveway for Al's Auto Center.
google avatar

Jackie A.

Yelp
This review is strictly food related, as I have only ever ordered delivery off of Grubhub and have never been to the actual location. I am so happy to have found this place, the Chinese food spot that I had in my area closed down and it was my absolute favorite place. I had been trying out different restaurants and none hit the spot, and finally came across this one. It is now my new favorite. We had the Crispy egg rolls, Chow Fun noodles with beef and Fried rice with chicken, Braised string bean, Garlic bok choy, Orange chicken, Kung Pao shrimp, Sweet and Sour shrimp, Beef with broccoli, and last but not least the Egg yolk buns... drool city!! The Egg yolk buns were so soft and warm and sweet and absolutely the best thing to end the ridiculous amount of food that two people ordered. All of the food is so flavorful and it doesn't leave you feeling heavy either. Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Luis D.

Yelp
Solid Chinese food, especially the kung pao chicken. The orange chicken is good and great dim sum.
