Omg!! I have been patronizing this restaurant for a min. The rice is fresh and taste hella good.Try it 1st!! Please do not use any soy sauce. The chicken was seasoned well and perfectly breaded. Your food literally is fresh out the wok. It took me 20min to get settled at home. My food was still really hot😋Ain't nothing like having a. craving and it hit the spot. Y'all already know, im going back. Just wanted to put ya'll on💯Thank me later😁😋

How disappointing! I have been a loyal customer to Yang Chow Restaurant for years. I ordered Chicken Chow Mein today, but to my surprise, I simply received burnt noodles and chicken. It had a terrible flavor and was awful. They refused to give me a refund when I called them to request one and instead wanted me to make the long drive back to the restaurant. If you’re ordering from this restaurant, do it at your own discretion. Food quality and customer time are not important to them.

Google
Good food, tasty, long standing in the community. However, if you get lemon chicken, get the sauce on the side. They warned me it would be soggy, if it were added; I didn't know... everything else was perfect. I love the vegetable fried rice; remember to ask for brown rice, if you prefer.

Google
I'm so sorry. I don't mean to be rude, but this food is consistently terrible. It takes a lot for me to leave a bad review, but the chicken is so dry I'm about to choke. It tastes like I had it for leftovers and the microwave overcooked it.

Google
Opens at 11:00 a.m. there's no inside dining . And parking is a problem between 11 :a.m. - 2:p.m. The food is delicious and the cashier is always ready to take orders. She's very friendly and helpful to customers.

Google
Great food & RIDICULOUS portions. Yang Chow rice, salt & pepper dried fried ribs (no fat), garlic noodles & veggie rolls. All very delish! The portions were unbelievable! Very inexpensive!

Google
The people who work there are nice and the food is delicious!!! They deserve 10 stars!!! They are still take-out and delivery only, with no dine-in. This place is reasonably priced and my family keeps coming back here time and time again. Delivery is quick and affordable by ordering directly through the restaurant. They prepare the food very fast. Ample street parking is available. Family-owned business. Friendly staff. Very clean and hygienic. No doubt the best place around.

I am so happy with my shrimp fried rice. It is so delicious and good size for price. I was hungry but now I'm satisfied.

Yelp
Hands down best orange chicken ever I live in Modesto, but when I come to Oakland, I'm always trying to get that orange chicken. It's is truly different from any other orange chicken I have ever had anywhere else. It's a must try. All the food is good. But the orange chicken is a game changer. Go try it. Yes, now. Go already

Yelp
I ordered delivery for the first (and last) time yesterday. It was not good on all fronts. The food was greasy and blah. The veggie egg rolls appeared to have been sitting for a long time. My son ordered the sweet and sour shrimp, and it was very smelly and not at all appetizing. In fact, the smell was so overwhelming that I had to pack it all up almost immediately, put it back in the bags and walk two blocks to discard it because I didn't want it to cause a bad smell around the garbage area. That said - I see it gets much better reviews, so it could be it was an off night.

Trina L.

Yelp
The food is nasty. I ordered 4 items and all 4 item was nasty and old. The food was super oily and I will never order food from them again.

Brian C.

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch pick up. The staff was friendly and helped me right away and I ordered off their lunch menu. Food only took 10-15 to prepare. Ordered two lunch specials to go, you can feed two people with one but it the food was very mid. Pineapple Sweet & Sour Chicken Over noodles -the chicken was okay and the noodles were plain and had no seasoning or flavor to it. Garlic Hot Spiced Beef Over Rice -I'm not a big spicy person but the spicy was and flavors of this was good but the rice was mushy and there were a few pieces of meat that were overcooked and hard. I'll give them another try again just because it's some cheap eats and I've read that it is a hit or miss on certain days.

Yelp
Over the 25 years I've live in the neighborhood, I've eaten Yang Chow lunch buffet about 5-8 times; always fine; never outstanding. Home on Covid isolation, I ordered delivery. Twas Hot, filling, abundant. I ordered chicken fried rice and made it the mainstay for 3 different meals; container was packed so tightly, couldn't agotten one more grain in there. Also got salt-pepper tofu. Again, substantial serving. Not as tasty as some more upscale places but can't complain about value. Also got egg flower soup and enjoyed it tho, but nothing special. Bottom line: if you're on a budget but crave Chinese, this has got to best value near Grand Lake. If ya got dough to spend, there are better places.

Linda R.

Yelp
Good Chinese food in the Bay Area. A block from Lake Merritt, but damn they're pricey. They don't do plates, everything is a la cart which sucks, but hey. They're making their money. Portions are big. Baby raves about their deep fried pork chops. Defined bomb! A little greasy, but they're deep fried what else do you expect. Chow mein is thick noodles. Egg rolls were great. Shrimp egg rolls were literally just shrimp I thought it would have veggies too. So just a note! I would recommend if you're in the area and craving Chinese just know you're gonna break your pockets.

Steve D.

Yelp
"Chow Time Wings & Ribs" is a virtual menu of Yang Chow chinese restaurant in Oakland (near Lake Merritt). A virtual menu is only offered in the digital world, such as on delivery apps like DoorDash or GrubHub. It's served as delivery or takeout, and all sales are done online. In this case, the food is prepared by a real restaurant, not a ghost kitchen. I ordered: - Salt & Pepper Ribs (chinese style) - Korean Fried Chicken Wings - Fried Chicken Wings How was the food? - Salt & Pepper Ribs, Grade (5/5): For $11 you get a huge order of deep fried chinese style riblets. Battered, crispy, and moist meat. It's a big serving! The plastic box couldn't close up. Sauces are 50 cts extra. - KFC, Korean Fried Chicken, Grade (0/5): They messed up my order and gave me spicy/garlicky wings. I really wanted to try their KFC! -- 7 wings for $8. - Plain Fried Chicken Wings, Grade (3/5): plain, crust was hard, avg sized wings. Came with a dipping sauce. -- 7 for $8.25. If I knew the Salt & Pepper Ribs were such a huge serving, I wouldn't of ordered the wings. Service, Grade (3/5): They use their own drivers, so there's no delivery fees. But their driver marked the order as delivered and it was not. I had to call him up, and he said his GPS was bad. Overall, a fair experience.

Yelp
I don't know who's in the kitchen tonight but the food is tasty and flavorful! Not too oily or salty. Portions are big, I almost can't even close the to-go box! I ordered their chow fun and fried rice.

Antonio P.

Yelp
This was good food. I got the sweet and sour pineapple chicken and steamed rice, the chicken and broccoli meal and it was divine. We did this through Uber eats and received quickly.

Doug C.

Yelp
I think that they only offer takeout and delivery. No table serve. I like the wor won ton soup. It has lots of won tons as well as extra beef chicken shrimp and spinach. Their barbecue pork buns are good too. Not the best Chinese in Oakland but good quality for the price.

Marian H.

Yelp
I ordered prawn fried rice. I didn't like the presentation. The rice was a little mushy. It was not separated at all. I didn't like the fact that it was smashed into a food box. The rice should be in a platter type container. Not very many shrimp for $15.00. I don't think I'll be back. Wasn't too happy with the food at all.

Sarah S.

Yelp
I have ordered from here at least 10 times. I LOVE their sizzling rice soup. It always comes HOT and fresh. I also enjoy their pork pot stickers. They deliver earlier than the food service website says and the driver is always super kind.

Torri M.

Yelp
The worst takeout order I have ever had. The pot stickers were doughy and practically raw, the spring rolls were swimming in grease as was the shrimp chow mein. Said 'shrimp' chow mein had six tiny shrimp and probably six bean sprouts in a pound of overcooked greasy noodles. Husband's orange chicken came as reheated tough dried out yet soggy fried chicken with no orange sauce ... just two orange slices in top. I know it was late and I knew going into the order that it was going to be crappy Chinese food .... But this was beyond crappy! It was inedible snd downright disgusting! If like us you are having a late night craving and think this is the only place available and beggars can't be choosers. Well, I beg of you... Think again! Choose somewhere else .... ANYWHERE else!

Gene G.

Yelp
Delivery experience was great - came in half the time, portions were large. The container with the fried food was cracked ever so slightly ajar, so the steam didn't spoil the crispiness. How thoughtful. The game changer was when I realized they'd packed the hot garlic sauce for my chicken separately. Somebody in the kitchen knows the crime of drenching a perfectly crispy bird in a sauce that only wilts its dignity during the 20 minutes it takes to be delivered to you. Now I get to roll my own chicken in hot garlic sauce. Do I drizzle, or dip? They gave me options. I feel empowered. Illuminated - this is the difference between General's Chicken, and chicken that makes you feel like a General. I'm the General now. Someone at Yang Chow loves their customers - and made a new one.

Yelp
Best Dry fried ribs in Oakland ca! Service is fast and food cooked hot and fresh. I also order their fried rice like shrimp or the special. I drive all the way from Fresno ca just to get this!

Yuli O.

Yelp
My go-to for chinese food. The portions are massive and pretty good. The egg rolls with dipping sauce are my favorite thing to order from this place. I take off one star because they charge me a dollar extra for extra broccoli but there never seems to be extra broccoli in my noodles. It is also very oily.

Sabrina K.

Yelp
Had for the first time today. Good portions, fair price point. So bomb! Definitely some of the best Chinese food I've had & I'm picky. Ordered house fried rice, chicken chow main, beef & broccoli and dried fried ribs ( fave ) soooooo good! Will be recommending and be returning.

Bertha M.

Yelp
One of the women and a man that works there has a major attitude. They are not kind people. they never smile, they act like they don't appreciate your business, but still, i have gone because they're close to home, but last week, I informed the woman that over half my salt n pepper chicken was all batter, NO CHICKEN, and she says, that's how we make it. I even took the box of batter back, to show her, it was an excessive amount, what angers me, is the fact that I had my disabled son with me, and they still show a complete lack of regard to him. When I asked her, would you feed this to your child, their was no answer. She just took the box, threw it in a bag, and threw it away. I think she may have said sorry, I am not sure, but refused to give me any kind of credit, I wil not be returning.

Shavelle T.

Yelp
Best dry fried small ribs ever I use to go the buffet they offered before Covid hit......

Janice Y.

Yelp
I have had all of my meals delivered from Yang Chow so can only comment on the food. Also, as a vegan, my choices have been limited. I found their vegetable chow mein and braised tofu with asparagus stir-fry delicious and their spring rolls good. I was not such a fan of their vegetable chow fun or their deep fried mushrooms, though. All in all I would definitely reorder the braised tofu and the veggie chow mein. I have a feeling that if you are not vegetarian or vegan, you will find an array of tasty, expertly cooked dishes.

Teena N.

Yelp
Not bad, ordered take out/Door dash from here a few times. We always get -Salt and pepper spare ribs, has a lot of bones in it so becareful. But its tasty and also comes with sweet red sauce. I like putting the jalepeno slices in my rice and their hot oil. -Mayo shrimp, comes with a lot of medium size shrimps. They put the walnuts on the side when you order it to go. Doesn't have thick flour taste and it's creamy. -Beef chow fun, beef is tender, noodle is soft and chewy. Sometimes, Shrimp dumpling, nice texture. Not bad at all. Shrimp tastes good. Steamed meat dumpling, tough and not that great in taste. Slightly bland. Fried cream cheese, wonton skin filled with cream cheese and sweet red sauce given. Meh The restaurant itself is not upscale. It looks a bit run down, however, the portion and the food is pretty good and the workers are nice too. Parking can be hard, it's on a busy street.

Meg T.

Yelp
I'm waffling between a 2 and a 3 for Yang Chow. UberEats had decent reviews, but I began to worry when the food was ready for pick up not even 15 minutes after order. I mainly ordered for the sizzling rice soup. It's hard to find and I adore it. The delicate broth, fresh chicken, and crunchy snap peas are my everything when I'm not feeling well. But Yang Chow's sizzling rice soup was a basic chicken stock base, over salted, with wilted snap peas and shrimp. Although the fried shrimp rolls were great, the snap peas and water chestnuts were just okay - definitely greasy, as were the potstickers. Even though they both came in large portions they were definitely food court quality, and finally, the bao was huge, but sweet - just not my cup of tea. I appreciated them being open so late, but I likely wouldn't order again.

Erica P.

Yelp
The thing that matters most: chow fun. Pretty good! Could have used a tiny bit more flair (salt?). The veggie one doesn't include tofu so I got the salt and pepper tofu, which I liked other than that it needed a little more salt and any pepper. I wish the spicy sauce (sweet red syrup with a subliminal amount of spice) was chili sauce instead. I thought I was getting dry fried green beans but maybe the addition of mushrooms should have told me they'd be not dry. They were in a brown savory sauce and were quite good, but got a bit overcooked by sitting in that hot sauce while I got them home. I'd get takeout from here again.

Dedrick W.

Yelp
My go to spot for Chinese. Egg Foo Young is made the way it was in Chicago by generations of Chinese people. Every other place has something that resembles it, kind of.

Emma M.

Yelp
We were very disappointed in our meal. Not only did it take over an hour to arrive, the food was meh. We won't be ordering from Yang Chow again. Note: the restaurant does their own delivery.

Eric N.

Yelp
Great Chinese. Our party got three items (chicken, shrimp, and beef) and (pork) potstickers. Everyone was totally happy with what they got. Everyone had leftovers.

LaMar E.

Yelp
Best quality and quantity An addition the price is very affordable. Any time you want some Chinese food in abundance and cheap this the place.

B D.

Yelp
Horrible experience! The chicken was waaaaaaay overcooked and soggy! I spent $65 bucks for inedible food! I contacted Doordash and they can't refund my money. Stay clear of this place!

First L.

Yelp
I was once a repeat customer, but they have now canceled TWO of my GrubHub orders in a row (yesterday and today) with no explanation other than "Order/Menu Issue," which tells me nothing. When I asked GrubHub, all they could tell me is that an item on my order was unavailable - but not which item. When I asked why the restaurant didn't just call me to offer a substitution, I was told only that their policy is to just cancel the order so I can reorder. But I can't reorder if I don't know which specific item was the problem. Why don't they just remove an item from the menu if it's no longer available?? This restaurant has permanently lost my business.

Nicole C.

Yelp
Steer clear of this place it hasn't been good since the early 2000s and is in serious need of a face-lift.

V. Y.

Yelp
I ordered with GrubHub but the restaurant does their own delivery. I was informed it would arrive between 55-60 mins (6 PM at latest). At 6:15 I called the restaurant. She told me it had been delivered 40 minutes earlier. I told her it never arrived. She then proceeded to argue with me. I heard her talking to the driver in the background at some point and heard him say he delivered it to an address that had my house numbers but was AVENUE; mine is STREET. I pointed that out and she continued to argue saying that AVENUE was on the order-it was not. Then she told me was definitely delivered to the STREET one. She kept insisting it was delivered. I told her it was a free standing house and it was no where on the front of the property. Again she insisted it was. After about 10 minutes of this she hung up. DO NOT order from this restaurant!! The person was incredibly wrong and had no interest in trying to make things right when it was the driver's mistake, not mine or my order.

Marylynne C.

Yelp
I've ordered from them twice and I waited until I picked up food yesterday for the second time to write this review. Don't waste your money here. I ordered some "spicy shrimp in coconut sauce" which was literally just coconut milk, asparagus and like 6 tiny shrimp for $15.50. The hot and sour soup was awful. Not hot or sour and tasted like liquid mushy clay (that's all I can think of to compare it to). Previously I got Mu Shu chicken. It was terrible and mostly all cabbage. I also had gotten some spicy popcorn type chicken that had a "spicy sauce" to go on top. It was burnt, dry and the sauce was terrible. They are also not nice. Rude to me both times I picked up. Overpriced and very low quality food. Go elsewhere.

Elton S.

Yelp
The orange chicken came with oranges...but none to little sauce. Too doughy potstickers, which boggles the mind when I could make them from frozen material for less and have less filler. BBQ buns were big with too little meat, and the chow mein was atrocious. On par for a late night (the leftovers, likely reheated), but you can do better than this.

Johnny M.

Yelp
I can see the appeal of Yang Chow to many non-discerning customers because their food is tasty, but the biggest problem I have with their food is how much oil they use (which is probably the reason the food is so tasty). I ordered the spicy eggplant, a very simple, easy to make dish that I cook at home, for a comparison. Not only was it not spicy at all, it probably had enough oil to oil change my car. It's really disappointing. Will not recommend.

Rene C.

Yelp
Bomb Chinese food! Probably the best authentic Chinese spot in the whole bay! Menu has not changed since the 1980s from what an elder dude told me.

Claudia S.

Yelp
A small roach on my food when I ordered through door dash! Gross!!!!! I will never order from her, the food was bad quality!

Shannon P.

Yelp
They have been an Oakland staple for for than 30yrs! Its a reason why they are still around! Food is not a disappointment

La T.

Yelp
I decided to give Yang chow another chance last night. The amazing cook was back for a appearance. Whoever made this food last night should NEVER go on vacation again. It was Friday around 8pm. When this non regular occurrence happen- we try and ask for the cooks name and schedule so that we can make sure he/she/ will be there when we order. But Yang chow won't tell us, they say that everyone who work there is a good cook. NO MA'AM NO SIR!! NOT TRUE! Several cooks on your staff suck big time. They make so much money that they don't care. We would consider catering some of our events from them if they'd ensure that the good cook would make it. But they just won't give us that information. Only 4 stars because it's really a gamble if your gonna get a home run or a strike out .

J K.

Yelp
This is got to be one of my least favorite places to eat in Oakland. Definitely my least favorite Chinese place. I lived close by this place for many years, and I can't believe it's still open. For some reason, I just tried to eat there again because it's been a while and I was hoping it may have changed. I was very disappointed! I ordered the broccoli beef, fried prawns, and pork fried rice. The broccoli chicken is awful. The chicken has a strange aftertaste and it definitely tastes frozen, as if it's been in the freezer for a while. The fried prawns have so much bread/dough on them that you have no idea that there is even a shrimp inside. And the pork fried rice has a horrible aftertaste to it. I must give this place a one star. I just can't believe it's still open. There is a place across the street.. That is awesome.. If you want gonna have some good Chinese food, go to the one across the street! And I paid over $45 for this food. Pretty ridiculous. And lastly, right when you walk in it seems very cluttered and dirty inside. Everything about this place is no bueno.

F. S.

Yelp
My son wanted Chinese food today and we came across Yang chow on grub hub and decided to get the bbq pork chow fun, sweet and sour pork and small white rice. And fried chicken the food was not good at all. The sweet and sour pork was very mushy and nothing but batter it was packed in a soup container the Bbq chow fun had no taste to it and the bbq meat was hard to chew I had to tossed it out with the sweet and sour pork the fried chicken was alright ... but that's about it.

Kendra F.

Yelp
Yang chow is easily a five in my book. Been going here since I moved to the bay, and it's been in Oakland longer than many of us have been alive. I have nothing but recommendations, so here goes my top 3. Salt & Pepper Shrimp over Shrimp Fried rice is my go to meal. The jalapenos make it even better. Shrimp rolls Short fried pork ribs (I think that's the name). If you order, be sure to ask for extra sweet and sour sauce. There's plenty in the order and can be eaten as an appetizer. They're currently accepting pick ups too, and they're maintaining social distance by having you call them when you're outside. They'll meet you with your food.

Kyshia M.

Yelp
I'm not a huge Chinese food fanatic but this place right here, definitely deserves my 5 stars. My coworker's and I called in our order. You have two choices; deliver with a very small fee but you have to pay on one card or pick it up and pay separately. We all had cards so picking up seemed more feasible. I ordered the veggie spring rolls and they are fat! Comes with 3 and they are so huge that I could only eat 1. For my main dish I got the salt & pepper shrimp with garlic noodles. AMAZING!!!! OMG! The flavors of the shrimp were just right and blended well with the garlic noodles. My taste buds are jumping from enjoyment. The portion is HUGE! I ate what felt like half but barely left a dent in my container. One thing that stuck out was how they wrapped foil around all the containers to make sure the food stays warm. And it did! More places should do that for to-go orders. Prices is very well considering the amount of food you get. 2 garlic noodles w seafood and 1 veggie spring roll came to around $33. Not bad at all!

Waunda W.

Yelp
I actually ordered on Uber Eats, but it was so good that I felt like I should hop on Yelp and give a review. Ordered the Wor Won Ton soup, which was different from what I'd experienced in the past with other places. It was delightfully delicious and quite frankly would serve as a hearty meal for two! I also ordered combo fried rice with chicken shrimp and bbq pork, which was equally delicious as was the honey walnut shrimp. I wasn't completely happy with the bbq pork appetizer, since it seemed be a bit dry even with the tasty sauce on it. All in all I loved my Chinese food Birthday dinner and would definitely recommend as I'll be ordering from here again in the future!

Ghe G.

Yelp
This business must be doing rather well for itself- refused to sell me what I asked for and cut me off when I wanted to know if it would be worth it to order more than I wanted.

Farai D.

Yelp
Tonight was soooo disappointing! I've been coming to this restaurant for many many years, before these now owners even took over (I liked the son and mother who previously owned and ran the restaurant). I ordered sweet & sour chicken, shrimp fried rice and fried wonton tongs. I pick up my order and went to my friends house to have dinner with him. As we are eating, he pulls out this long brown/gold strain of hair from the rice. I calmly pack everything up and he put the hair in a envelope (with windows) and I headed back to the restaurant. Come to find out, the lady I seen earlier walking back and forth is the manager. At this time the restaurant is pack with DoorDashers and others. When I was there earlier, she wasn't too much in the kitchen because I kept seeing her go from the back to the front bringing all the orders. Now that I'm back at the restaurant complaining about hair in my food, I noticed that she has long brown/gold hair and she wasn't wearing a net. Yes! I bet you anything this was her hair in our food when she asked "how May I help you" I made it no secret that I found hair in my food (I wasn't loud or ignorant about it) but I didn't whisper. It made the hair on her neck stand up! She politely asked if I wanted anything and I said NO! and ask if I wanted a refund and how would I like it. I'm so heartbroken because to KNOW ME, you know I DO NOT eat everybody's Chinese food. When I find a spot I stick to it. My relationship with Yang Chow has now ended. And, another thing is that my God sister told me a couple of weeks ago that she also found hair in her food from there a short few years ago and that's why she stop going and this the same reason I will not supporting them any longer. I will be letting the community know as well. YANG CHOW DO BETTER! WEAR A HAIR NET!!!!! NASTY

John W.

Yelp
I placed an order with Door Dash and forgot to add utensils before checking out. So I called the restaurant and spoke to a women named Kathy. She was extremely rude and told me she didn't have my order. I told her it's probably coming through soon and that I was in a rush to pickup my daughter from school. To which she responded, "we get them immediately". I tried to reason with her that all I wanted was to include utensils with my order. To which she said "we have a lot of orders and went on and on about how she couldn't help me"

Mike L.

Yelp
Yang Chow has been open for decades with a really friendly family running it, not sure if that family still does. Lately I've been ordered from here on GrubHub for work meetings and considering for take out the food has been pretty good. I especially like the eggplant and chicken with garlic sauce.

Linda T.

Yelp
Yang Chow is the restaurant you go to because the food is good and always available for delivery. I love their Wonton soup, and wait staff are helpful and informative.

Stacy L.

Yelp
The food is great been coming here for a long time now. However I have recently stop going the place is not in good shape or clean that concerns me about how they may be cooking. If the establishment is filthy it now makes me wonder about the quality of cleanliness. Update, paint, clean the place.

Bleu M.

Yelp
The food didn't taste bad at all. The salt and pepper fish was delicious and so was the chicken chow mein. It was their sweet sour chicken that was questionable. Needles to say, about a couple hours later, I vomit the sweet sour chicken. It gave me acute food poisoning. Now, I give it 2 stars because the portions were generous, the food wasn't all bad. It was just the sweet sour chicken. I might try it again in the future but fair warning if you order take out. Also they didn't give utensils...
