Yankee Tavern In the Bronx Is the Place to Be on Game Day - Eater NY

"Yankee Tavern, the oldest bar in the Bronx, is a place where fans from the immediate neighborhood watch Yankees games. Decorated with murals of Yankee greats, the bar offers a sense of connection to the stadium through the P.C. Richards strikeout whistle. Patrons, including longtime regulars like Joannie Martinez and the bouncer Craig, share drinks and stories, while memorabilia mark the footprints of famous patrons like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. The bar's atmosphere is lively, especially during games, with patrons ordering popular items like pastrami sandwiches, Jameson neat, and Long Island iced tea with pineapple juice." - Mike Diago

Vegan Brushetta was phenomenal, Nicki even helpedgetting 3 million dollars to do a Feasability study for the 20 acre thousand storeys in da area, see immortal towers on Facebook, the tomatoes straight from the garden behind the sports bar, non gmo a$ well… thank you very much Nicki and fam

If you are a true Yankees fan; then you must come to Yankee Tavern! The memorabilia is one of a kind! They have a phenomenal selection of draft beers, and cocktails. To a selective choice of menu of classics (finger food) and great entrees! During game days the atmosphere is like no other even on off days can be quite extraordinary as well! It is truly a One-Stop shop for baseball fans, and all sports fans alike.

Always stop by when I am in the area, always have good lunch specials

Google
Awesome vibe, terrible service that screams obscenities at you when you don't tip for their terrible service. Willing to recognize my error in being too non confrontational to explain why I chose not to tip (legitimately my bad) if the Yankee Tavern is willing to accept that it's not ok for their bartenders to scream obscenities at paying customers given how incredibly unprofessional it is to get in people's faces about tips to begin with. Will take the bartender's advice and never come back

Before our Yankees Game experience - trip to NYC - we decided to sample a nearby sports bar for a late lunch. It was everything a Yankees sports bar should be. I had a very good pastrami on rye. One thing I did not like was the bread. Rye bread needs to be firm, not doughy. But it tasted ok. Also had their onion rings and my husband had the Cubano Sandwich Hero, which was very generously sized.

Google
Great space, appropriate decoration with some memories of the best time Yankees. Food is mediocre you can get better Burgers from MD, beer assortment it's ok nothing new or fresh. Overall place is neat to be an old bar. Service fantastic.

Google
Ordered folded before the game and bartender never put it in. Went to pay and she said “oh, I never put in your food order” welp money list from us. Should re-evaluate your servers at the bar. Losing you money Yankees Tavern. SMH

Yelp
Great place to visit when the Yankees are playing. It's your typical bar nothing fancy. Spacious in the back. There's a bunch of TVs throughout the space to watch the game. Decent prices.

Yelp
Great vibe , this is a really chill place, do come and drink beer and apps , highly recommended

Yelp
Great atmosphere if you're a Yankees fan. Lots of Yankee memorabilia and fans to enjoy the game or even before the game. We were here Tuesday night prior to the World Series game 4. It was pretty crowded. Service was incredibly slow not that we were in a rush. Our server was working very hard but I think it was just him in our back section. Prices are very good and fair. My pizza was very undercooked with a lot of melted cheese. Wings and burger were fine with no complaints!

Yelp
Amazing food and service. Plenty of TV monitors to watch sports. The ambiance is great especially during Yankee games.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I came here after a recent Yankee game. It was amazing. I had heard about this place, but never been. It's within walking distance, if you want to go. Highly recommended. The service is wonderful. Very friendly. They let you sit wherever you want. The food was good. We got a couple burgers (one beef, one turkey), with a side of fries. Classic, but good. I feel like turkey burgers can be either hit or miss, but this one hit it out of the ballpark (pun intended). And the vibe was awesome! They have Yankeecana from all different eras. It was incredible!!

Yelp
Perfect place to watch the Yankees game if you are not at Yankee stadium. The Ambience is Yankee team friendly, I almost thought I was in the stadium. Great food and amazing environment and extraordinary service...Definitely looking forward to coming back here

Yelp
This is a great spot to have a bite to eat and have a couple of brewskies before the game. The bartender is awesome and is a huge Yanks fan (obviously). We were here during 4th of July weekend and they had a 4th of July frozen cocktail. Awesome service!

Yelp
Have had some good times here before. It was always a favorite on game day. Yankee Tavern of course is fun when there's a game. Even if there's not it's still not bad. There's beer and plenty of TVs. Beer is always good. I like getting the Yankee Pilsner. This is the house beer and always a good choice while watching games on TV. It's about $7 a cup. Yes it's overpriced. As expected. This is taking advantage of the area of course so it's something you have to accept if you come here. It had a good atmosphere. It's best when there's a game. This is the only way to see them play, watching them on TV.

Yelp
I've been a patron for years. Love the place. People are friendly and the service is excellent
google avatar

Gregory C.

Yelp
I know it's the playoffs, but come on. $9.00 for a 12 ounce can of Stella? It's $16.32 for a 25 ounce can of Stella inside the stadium. Do the math. When it's cheaper to drink inside the ballpark than at a bar, the bar has a problem.......
google avatar

Keila B.

Yelp
This place is ok. My friend and I were tired of paying Stadium prices for food. Good drink selection. Location is good. The cheesesteak was mediocre. Meat was dry and I would prefer cheese sauce instead of a slice of melted cheese. Fries were solid. Would probably be back but get something else.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my spot ( only on certain days ) I love the food and atmosphere here around 7pm. If you're a POC, come in the evening so you can use the jukebox at your leisure without them turning down your songs. The older bartender doesn't like when you play urban music Besides that, the food is phenomenal! The drinks are strong and delicious! The other bartenders like the young man with the black hair is soooo nice. They keep me coming and the food. Stop being biased toward paying customers music. It is wrong and not right.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent spot to hit pregame. Plenty of beers on tap, a great selection of small and big bites, great service and a live environment with great energy.

Yelp
I will never go back here. We (2 women) were looking for a bar to go to after the Yankees game to watch the end of the USA-NED World Cup match, and decided to go here since it wasn't overly packed. We got to the bar pretty quickly and ordered (a beer and vodka soda). They were out of the beer I ordered so the bartender gave me a taste of a different one to try. Never made my friends drink, never back came to us. At this point we're now sitting at the bar, no drinks, my money is out, watching him go down the line of people taking orders. After a good 20 minutes when he was coming back down the line towards us, looked our way, pointed to the guys behind us, flat out ignoring us we got up and left. I've never waited so long at a bar to not receive a drink and to be flat out ignored. We walked across the street to Bronx Ale House and had a drink within 60 seconds.
google avatar

Yelp
Great slider(always got good char) and fries. It's one of the best in the area. The guys & ladies work there are really nice, too.
google avatar

Mirian G.

Yelp
Definitely the spot to go have a bite or drink before the game. We were in town to see a Saturday night game and most places near the stadium were packed. We were greeted and seated promptly by our waitress. They offer an extensive menu from wraps to burgers to wings. We order shareable items as neither of couldn't decide what we wanted. We went for the pizza, wings and we asked for half garlic parmesan and the other Hot. And finally an order of onion rings. I found their prices to be super reasonable. They seemed to be handling big parties as quick and promptly as a party of two. Definitely an option when I return for another game.

Yelp
Nick is a great bartender & the king of new york and gave us a great nyc experience & will be back forsure

Yelp
Not that my Caesar Salad was great but it is such a fun place to go before (and probably after) a Yankee game. The dining room is beautifully decorated in "Yankee Décor". My server, Amanda, was great. Although I wasn't at the bar, everyone there seemed to be having a great time. Also very important, the bathrooms are clean there. Much cleaner than some of the other places around the stadium.

M. T.

Yelp
Yankee Tavern is typically a cool spot to hit up before the game. It's even fun in off-season when the locals take over. But, tonight there was nothing cool about Yankee Tavern that refused to turn on their air conditioning in sweltering weather conditions. Unbearable and unacceptable. Left after ice in drink melted in 3 minutes.

Yelp
I have dutifully remained at bay during COVID19 -- HOWEVER, THIS Bronx Yankee Tavern (coming from a RSx fan - and welcomed!!) HAD to step outside the grid!! Best STEAKS - BEST Steak ever other than Damon's in Glendale. They welcome Boston & Dallas Fans!! BEST food ever!!!

Yelp
Old school pub. Went here with a few others before (of course) a Yankee game. For some reason they didn't have tap water but they gave us mini cold bottle instead. The water was free but uhh that's a bit odd. Even the usually pretty cheap beers here are really pricey. Someone ordered a Negra Modelo and ended up with the Model Especial instead. I got a Keegan's milk stout which was fine. I think the beers alone were 7/8 bucks which is somewhat fine for Keegan's but for the Modelo you can usually find 2/3 for that price. It's not that fancy of a neighborhood so I found the price gouging to be super high. The menu is primarily Italian so most people stuck with Italian food. We got some grilled veggies for the table which were cooked and served well apart from the somewhat watery balsamic. My main, the roast beef sandwich with brown sauce and cheese was fine though some pieces were rubbery. The sauce was fine. Otherwise people had the chicken cacciatore which they said that it was OK outside of one piece which was a bit rubbery, the fried lasagna, and an eggplant parmigana sandwich which looked fine. In other words, the food is OK but somewhat inconstant. If this was in any neighborhood, I'd give it a 2 but this area has almost nothing and this bar has a lot of history. 2.8

Yelp
Been going to Yankee Tavern for years!! Joe has always worked hard making sure regulars and fans have great food service and drinks. Defiantly a first stop when ever we go to the games.
google avatar

Joshua R.

Yelp
Stopped by for bite to eat. This is my kind of place. Feels like home. Beers are cold and the food is good.
google avatar

Bob M.

Yelp
A good place to kill time before a game. The service is attentive. The food is good. The beer is cold. Been around since 1927 and bathrooms probably haven't been cleaned in nearly as long. Don't let that stop you though.

Annika M.

Yelp
Solid spot before a game. Very close proximity to the stadium and the staff was very friendly. Cheaper than drinking inside the stadium. I didn't care for the food though.
google avatar

Daniel Z.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere for game day yanks vs Sox. Enjoyed a couple cold beers before the game and the Yank fans were nice to us even though we were wearing Sox gear.

Lance L.

Yelp
Great yankee pre game bar. Seating is limited for a family. Wonderful history though.
google avatar

Ebony T.

Yelp
Decent food. We came on a Saturday. Food was slow to get us. But good. I had the corned beef on a bun. I had to take it off because the bun was very hard and cool. Wasn't warmed up. But overall flavor was good. We also ordered spicy fries. Which aren't actually spicy they're just regular seasoned fries. ( ours had a red hair on it) so we sent them back. Easy mistake. My sister had a chicken quesadilla that she ate so fast there's only half in the picture. So I'm assuming it was good lol.
google avatar

Laurie-Anne B.

Yelp
Loved our experience there even as blue jays fans! Everyone super nice and the food was delicious! The pastrami sandwich was phenomenal! Our waitress and the host were amazing! Loved it!

Stephanie S.

Yelp
From California been to the Yankee tavern twice. Once I'm 2010 and 2021. Great service everytime. Friendly staff and John is an awesome bartender. Definitely will go back next year!

Yelp
This is my first time here.Decided to grab a late night drink after catching a movie.Very nice size bar with a very nice beer and cocktail selection.I got here after 10 so the kitchen was closed unfortunately.I like the vibe.Pleasant group of folks and a dj spinning classic hits.I would come back for sure.

Yelp
Amazing food amazing drinks !! just overall service is !! You will not regret a thing

Yelp
Yankee Tavern is not the worst place to grab a beer before the game, given the mediocre options in the vicinity. The best things about it are the memorabilia and the laissez faire atmosphere. You can definitely get sloshed here in a short period of time while bs-ing with your buddies. On the flip side, there's really nothing that would make me choose this place if a better bar opened across the street. The beer selection is extensive, but offering 20 taps of uninspired lagers is not really better than offering a half dozen. The best beer snobs can do is a Brooklyn Summer or something of that ilk. And then you're paying $7 or $8 for these suds, which is serious gouging the way I see it. I've no idea where the cheap drinks I see mentioned in other reviews were being served, but it's not here. Anyways, I gripe, but the bar is fine. Still, now that NYCFC is here, I would like to see a more soccer-friendly, beer-savvy spirit emerge at YT and the surrounding taverns.
google avatar

Doreen L.

Yelp
It's one of the only bars I go to whenever I'm at Yankee Stadium. The beer menu is just decent enough to satisfy my snobbiness. The food is true dive bar food, but after a long, cold night at the stadium, it did the trick. It was super crowded when we arrived after the game, but there were plenty of tables in the back, so that worked out quite well for us!
google avatar

Phil H.

Yelp
Solid little spot to grab a few beers before the game. It's almost like a dive bar dedicated to everything NY Yankees. Just for that alone makes it worth downing a beer here. Walking in you see all types of pictures and memorabilia on the walls. Pictures of the stadium, photos of former players, jersey's, ticket stubs, Yankee history, etc. The food here is basically mediocre pub grub. You go here for some booze really, but skip the food. Decent selection of beer on tap and prices are reasonable. Fun crowd if you are a Yankee fan, but expect to get razzed if you walk in here with another team's gear on. Friendly bartenders and waitresses too. Easy to get to as it's close to the subway and pretty much across the stadium. Can get crowded on game days as is the norm, but not too bad overall. I still prefer the loud crowded rock and roll rowdiness of Stan's down the street.

Sandra D.

Yelp
My spot anytime I'm in the mood for unwinding with friends & acquaintances. Good drinks, good food & good people. The crowd is very lively when there's a game in town.
google avatar

Craig W.

Yelp
The restaurant is separate from the skinny and long bar. Not as high energy as Stan's but still a fun place and another classic bar outside Yankee Stadium. The pastrami sandwich on rye with provolone was very good, especially with cold beer, and the cheese fries (albeit with that goopy yellow melted cheese) were delicious. That could be the drunk in me talking, but everyone was eating them, and I liked 'em, too. Another classic pit stop before or after a game at Yankee Stadium (new or old).

Prada S.

Yelp
Definitely a vibe here food is good drink are affordable and the staff becomes family u go long enough! Best bar by yankee stadium the other ones over charge because of the area n don't even have a good vibe. So definitely go here!
google avatar

Ginette P.

Yelp
We wanted to save some money on drinks & food before the madonna concert , so we decided to come by here. glad we did , I stuck w some Stella beer , my friend had the vodka & monster drink since they had no red bull...beer was good , the drink was great nice & strong. after a few we decide to get something small to eat , fries we good so was the grilled cheese & the potatoe croquettes were pretty good as well. I think they can do w/ out the gravy but it was not bad with it. Nice service , good drinks & decent prices , I wouldnt mind stopping by again any time before a concert or game.
google avatar

Ed M.

Yelp
Tony is the best bartender. He is knowledgeable about all the local attractions and how to poor a stiff drink. Joe at the door is very attentive at our needs and also JC the bartender with his witty humor and flawless service.
google avatar

Kimberly L.

Yelp
Pretty standard pub with neighborhood charm. The food is really good. My dad, who is very critical when it comes to his food, took me here post Yankee game and ordered us corned beef sandwiches. It was one of the best corned beef sandwiches I've ever had.
google avatar

Marios D.

Yelp
Great bar for after game drinks. Joined some friends at a very traditional Spot. The place looks and feels classic New York! The place was interesting but the characters more so! There was a guy ragging on NE Patriots and Tom as well as anything Boston. It was literally a rant. It was funny - for a New Yorker.... Although I must say it added to the ambiance! Great place.
google avatar

Ahmed M.

Yelp
Great place to watch a game in the afternoon. That's how a sports a should be . Fast paced service and no extra chitchat ... enjoy your game .... go Barca go

Gabriel K.

Yelp
Didn't expect it but, Yankee Tavern was actually magnificent. The atmosphere and staff are fantastic. Every single thing was very delightful and I just cannot wait to go back already. Workers ensured everything was all right. I enjoyed every thing at Yankee Tavern.
google avatar

Latoya W.

Yelp
Really chill Bar. Close to Yankee Stadium so it gets pretty crowded on game day. On Fridays they often give out free food. I am sure that doest happen on game day.
google avatar

Susan D.

Yelp
Even when the Yanks are away this is a great place to watch the game. Decent bar food and a fair selection of beers. In fact, the best time to go is when the Yankees are away-- It's so much fun to watch the game with a bunch of other fans. Come early and get a seat at the bar where you can watch the game on their nice flat screen TVs. Did you know that Yankee Tavern has it's own staff baseball team? I saw them playing once at the public park not long ago. So, not only are they a fun sports bar but they know the Bronx. They are open all year, and yes you can watch a Mets game here too... or the super bowl. I'd give them five stars, but their food is just regular bar stuff, if they ever fix that I'd be in heaven,
google avatar

Lawana R.

Yelp
The staff here was amazing it's like a Cheers in New York!! Service was great as well!! Me and my fiancé had a great time. This was my first time and it sure won't be my LAST!!!
google avatar

Don A.

Yelp
We were in town and went to the game. Stopped in to the tavern w my family. Met Junior. Although he works at the restaurant he explained the history of the tavern. Super nice. Made us feel so welcome. My kids had a great time and the food was great. Eileen took care of our table and it was a super awesome time!
