I’ve always loved visiting places with great food, and this restaurant is one I’ve been going to for about 15 years. I recently noticed they’ve made some interior changes, which look nice and refreshing. We arrived around 11 a.m. and stayed for about an hour. At that time, there was only one table left for two people, while most other tables were for larger groups of four or more. The food was delicious as always, but the service could have been better. When we arrived, the front server was on the phone, and as more people came in, a group of Asian women walked in and seated themselves without waiting. The server didn’t step in or organize the situation, which made things feel a bit chaotic. Personally, I don’t like that kind of experience, so I felt a bit uncomfortable. It was a busy weekend morning, so I understand that some requests might be delayed. Other than that, I really enjoyed having their food again in the morning. I especially loved the BBQ pork bun pastry — it was perfectly flaky, warm, and flavorful! The steamed Shanghai dumplings were also delicious, with plenty of flavorful broth inside. However, the wrapper wasn’t as thin as the ones at Din Tai Fung. Plus, they charge the take out container box for 1.50.

Reviews brought me here. Decided to celebrate our mother's birthday and it was an excellent experience! Service was fantastic and all the dishes were delicious! The whole family (group of 7) had a great dining experience I really appreciated the quality of the ingredients and how fresh everything tasted. My favorite: Scallop & Shrimp Shiu-Mai, Sweet & Sour Boneless Pork, and Yan's House Special Fried Rice. *Deep Fried Squid with Peppery Salt was a bit too salty for my liking

We’ve been coming to Yan’s House for six years and it’s still our absolute go-to for dim sum and Chinese food! The service is always so friendly, the food is consistently delicious, and the recent renovations look fantastic. We especially love the dim sum and the tofu and brisket hot pots, so good every time. Great service and decor. Food portion size is generous. The roasted duck is good. The skin is crispy and meat is tender. Goes really well with the tortillas. Kids can't stop eating them. The duck with pineapple and ginger is disappointing as the duck meat doesn't go well with the sweet and sour sauce. Should've ordered the minced duck with lettuce wrap instead. Honey garlic pork ribs is good. Very kids friendly. Sweet and crispy.

Very good Chinese food. More “authentic” than standard American Chinese food. Rice and noodle dishes are excellent. We get the prawn dim sum soup every time we go.

My father had a minor procedure done in Maple Ridge done in the morning and on the way back, he said he wanted dim sum. I knew about Yan’s but hadn’t had a chance to come out this way before. It was the perfect opportunity to try it out and have my folks with me. We arrived thinking it would be slow for a Monday but it was surprising busy. 15 tables were sat by the time we settled in and that’s always a great sign for a restaurant and its quality. Because of its location, seeing that many tables meant that locals knew the spot to have dim sum in Port Coquitlam. We got there shortly after 11:30. We weren’t looking to be full but still wanted to try a few dishes. We ordered the Har Gao (Shrimp Dumplings), Siu Mai (Pork Dumpling with Shrimp), Ha Cheung (Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll), Lo Mai Gai (Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf), and Jiaoyan Youyu (Deep Fried Squid with Pepper Salt). Everything was great. Nowadays Siu Mai comes with minced or diced shrimp but theirs is whole inside. A welcome return to that. Tasty. The Ha Cheung was really well done with the rice roll being soft and with a nice bite. My dad and I actually ordered a second order of each. My only quip was that the Jiaoyan Youyu topping was a little too salty. The squid was incredible, very soft and not very chewy at all. The pieces were large and well battered. It’s just the crackling topping they put on top. We didn’t know if that was the standard but everything else was great so we didn’t say anything. We just didn’t eat all of the topping. I will say that as I was paying for the bill, my parents mentioned to our server and she was very nice and told us that we should have mentioned it earlier and they could have replaced it. That was really cool of her. Overall it was a fantastic meal with my parents. Everything was really well done and the atmosphere was on point with how busy it was. I will definitely be back when my parents and I return to the area next month. Thank you!!

I came here for lunch with my family. Food was pretty good. Service was fine at first ( I don't expect too much at Chinese restaurant) but after the food came, I saw the owner cleaned up all the tables and checked on us. I was so impressed. Highly recommend to support this business.

This restaurant used to be called Rainbow Butterfly back in the day. I've been to the other Yan location near Lougheed Mall and enjoyed it, so I decided to give this location a try. The food was good! Everything was hot and tasty. We ordered the basics like ha gow and siu mai, along with a plate of chow mein for the kids. The service was excellent! It wasn't overly busy; I would estimate the restaurant was about 70% full for a Saturday afternoon around 11:30. The servers worked well together, efficiently teaming up to assist each table. The ambiance was nice--they had given the place a fresh coat of paint and rearranged the seating area a bit. Overall, it was a great experience!

Been a long time customer of rainbow butterfly before they changed to yans house. They did some rennovations to make it look more modern. The servers are the same familiar faces. Maybe chefs are the same too? Dimsum is not bad as usual. Prices are good. I like that the chicken feet is just the feet part without the legs. More meat and skin to eat. The pan fried bun is not good. Not crispy. Inside, he toppings are super dry. Their lunch fried vermicelli is good and plenty. The congee was very very small considering it was $11. The food doesnt seem upgraded although the decor is. Same average dimsum with low prices. Its a good place for locals to go because of this and also because there is plenty of parking.

The former establishment in this same location was Rainbow Butterfly Restaurant. It has served the area with economic Chinese food/ Dimsum over 2 decades... until couple months ago. The new owner Yan took over the business, renovated, changed the name and the menu and combos, continued serving the community with "reasonable" priced Chinese gourmet... Basically it's the same interior set up, but with new paint and wood flooring, plus all the utensils engraved with the restaurant's Chinese name "潮". The food is all right (I guess it's the same chef from Rainbow?) Service is good and free wifi is available to customers, as well as free parking out front... I would definitely come again whenever I feel like to drive a bit further to revisit Yan's. It took me about 45 minutes from Richmond to Poco depending on the traffic.

Since the Rainbow Butterfly changed to Yan's House/Place they won't take pick up or delivery orders over the phone. And to make matters worse, an old school guy like me cannot figure out HOW to place an order on their stupid online ordering platform. So I am done with them. I'm going to order from Eastern Pearl or Lee Garden in the future.

I really had high hopes for the rebranding and Yan's taking over. Yan's Garden on Lougheed and North Road is excellent, consistently. I don't know if it's because they have the same people running it as the old Rainbow Butterfly but service is slow... which is terrible for a dim sum restaurant. At least the table and chairs aren't grossly sticky from age anymore. This is our second time back as the first time they had just opened so I was giving them the benefit of the doubt that it would be better. Sadly I think the same management and the same people in the kitchen makes for a same sad experience as the old Rainbow Butterfly... just a little lipstick on a pig. I hope the new owners read this and think about making some real changes to protect the Yan's brand.
