We came here for our anniversary. And had great servers that were very friendly. There was plenty of room for us when we arrived at almost 9 PM on a Thursday night. I talked to the sushi person and she was very honest about what sushi was very fresh and which ones were just pretty fresh. We ended up ordering Tako-Yaki, spicy salmon roll, Big Eye Tuna sashimi (was the freshest and most $$), salmon nigiri, a few hand rolls and a wonderful broth-less thick Ramen bowl. The broth-less ramen was the real stand out for the evening. I highly recommend trying it as the noodles were coated in a unique thick, delicious broth with a soft boiled egg and yummy charshu pork. It is called Kama-tama Ramen and is $16 for a good sized bowl or $24 for a large bowl. One drawback, besides not having great sushi or much of a sushi selection, are the prices. We spent $115. for two folks sharing enough food to fill us and one tall can of Kirin - including tip.

Low key izakaya with authentically funky decor and a very casual vibe. We love the chicken karaage, spicy tuna and mackerel. Beer, wine and cocktail options, booth, table or counter seating and very good service. One of my faves.

My family who lives in town swore by this place but they hadn’t been in years. We went tonight and it’s just not worth the trip. The salmon didn’t taste or smell fresh. They have a really small sushi menu. They got one of the rolls wrong on the protein and the server wasn’t attentive. There was a very sweet older lady who greeted us so for her warm welcome I’m giving 3 instead of 2 stars.

The quality of sushi is so poor, it was embarrassing. The fish was okay, fresh. but the prep & taste was awful. It’s hard to imagine bad quality, tasteless rice in a contemporary Japanese restaurant, but they did manage to deliver tasteless rice. I ordered several rolls, including most popular ones and hand roles. Hand roles were just tubes of said rice rolled in dry nori with laughably small and unsavoury filling. It looked like they were rolled by a grandma who hasn’t tried a sushi hand roll before and went literally by its name. On positive note, the staff was super friendly and attentive. Beer was served in an ice chilled mug. Customers who ordered ramens seemed to enjoy their meals. But myself I came for sushi into a sushi joint & it was a culinary sad & tasteless experience all around.

Our favorite thing here was the cold noodles. Definitely the most delicious thing we had. Everything else was pretty much average. Nice staff and atmosphere. Would probably go again if I was in the area to try other things and see if it could get the rating higher for me. But probably wouldn't seek it out on my own.

Takoyaki, chicken curry, and sushi were all delicious! Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Will definitely be back for more. They have happy hour too. 🙂

I do like that they actually use real crabs for their sushi and the bathroom is pretty cool with heated seats! The reason I gave this place a 3 star?. We came to this place around 11: 50 am and they opened at 11:30 am on a Sunday. It took about more than 5 minutes for someone to come to the front and gave us a seat. It just felt like they were'nt ready yet. Then when they took our order, after a few minutes we were told that they were out of the calamari. They just opened for the day and were already out? It took 30+ minutes to get our food and they were staggered. We got the tofu first. Then 5 minutes after the rice with curry and chicken. A few minutes after the pork skewer. My husband and I were done with our food when my kids sushi finally came. Our food did not arrive at the same time. It felt like they came every 10+ minutes. By the time the last order came, we were all done eating except for my son who's food finally came. As you can see in the pictures we didn't order a lot. Cute place but wont be coming back again.

We've been loyal customers of Yaraimura Maru for the past 3 years, and it continues to be one of our favorite spots! The food is always amazing—this time I had the Abu Udon and Shoyu Ramen, and both were absolutely delicious, as always. Cynthia and Phil were awesome—so kind, welcoming, and attentive. Their warm service really makes the experience extra special. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great food and great people!

Yelp
Great selection of authentic izakaya options including ramen, gyoza, and traditional roll sushi. Service was pretty good for a busy happy hour on Saturday evening.

Yelp
Ehh.. mediocre food but still good for just drinks and basic bites. I visited their sister restaurant, Izakaya Kichinto which had about the same level of food but a bit more variety and a bit cooler interior. I went in a group of 4 and we were all pretty hungry but after looking through their menu (which seemed to have been reduced a lot) decided to only get 2 entrees and an appetizer to share as nothing sounded that good even with us being hungry. We looked thru their pretty short sushi menu and quickly decided that they didn't seem like a sushi spot bc their nigiri menu only had 5 fish and the rolls were all pretty uncreative/fried. We got the katsu curry, yuzu shio ramen and I honestly forgot the appetizer. The katsu curry was pretty good, ramen was ok and appetizer obviously unmemorable. So overall ok, I would say not a food destination but will do the spot if you're just lookin for drinks and snacks.

Yelp
One of my favorite Izakaya in the city!! People complaining that dishes "come out in a haphazard fashion" clearly don't understand the concept of an Izakaya and clearly did not read the menu. An Izakaya is the Japanese equivalent of a pub - its bar food and it comes out when it's ready in no particular order. This isn't some super fancy reservation type place. This is a humble authentic casual Japanese spot with impressive options. The decor and vibe here is authentic and warm! The food is always fantastic and the flavors are varied depending if you want sushi, ramen, and a great selection of smaller dishes. This is my regular spot!

Yelp
Quite a bit has changed since pre-COVID at this place. Food and service is still really good, but all yakitori items appear to have been dropped from the menu. It definitely feels more like a regular ramen and sushi restaurant now, rather than an izakaya where small plates are shared. I definitely miss the bacon-wrapped quail eggs and the unique experience you used to get here, but the prices are fair and food is still good! Also noticed a lot of the decorations that were present prior (Shinto masks, etc.) have been removed. Not sure why- they definitely added a bit to the overall look of the place!

Yelp
When I say I'm obsessed with this place, I mean I'M OBSESSED. I went here with friends one night because it was nearby and looked good, and I've gone back so many times since. Not only is their atmosphere and decor nice but their food is also amazing. I'm absolutely in love with their abu udon with chili oil on the side. I haven't had many ramen/udon without broth and you mix a sauce in, so when I tried this for the first time, it was an absolute game changer. I also love their karaage, appetizers, and curry. Their rolls are alright in my opinion--nothing special, but I mostly come here for their ramen anyways. Try to get reservations if you can on the weekend, because there will almost always be a wait for dinner! :)

Yelp
Everything about our meal was terrible, service was slow, food came in a haphazard fashion. Order soup and edamame, came in middle of meal. 2 things we ordered never came, never brought our drinks. Sushi rolls were tasteless, crappy wasabi. When I complained, was told that they had no control of how food came out, in other words, tough shit. Nothing was good about the experience

Yelp
This used to be my favorite spot in Portland for vegetarian ramen. It was the only place I could find that had vegetarian Tokyo style broth. I went last week and they don't have it anymore. Other classic Maru menu items are gone too. So sad! Hoping they bring back the Tokyo style broth, and other favorites too!

Yelp
Unfortunately the items marked gluten free are not gluten free. I believe they switched the noodles to be so, but did not look into what ingredients contain gluten and also put fried tofu in the ramen that was contaminated with gluten from other items in their menu. I would not trust this restaurant to provide gluten free options even if they are marked. As someone with celiac disease, I left the restaurants swollen and the next day still unable to speak due to my throat closing. The waiter had let us know that the ramen I ordered would be gluten free and it was marked on the menu that way.

Yelp
I love the interior of this place. Dark wood, the booths, the bar. Lunch special is king here -- sushi & a half bowl of ramen. The Tokyo shoyu ramen is possibly my favorite ramen that I've had anywhere. They allow you to build your own, but the default bowl of noodles, rich soy sauce tare, smoky dashi & chicken broth topped with with the green onion is so simple but so deep. I may detect a hint of citrus and togarashi in the tare. This is how I want all of my ramen.

Roy T.

Yelp
An extremely hearty yes to the Ramen here. The people are friendly, the food is to die for. I had a Ramen that even for a regular size, made me content. Had a delicious Kirin in a very frosty mug. This is as much of an authentic taste of Japan. It's the best I've had outside of Tokyo itself. You will need to check the hours, as they are still recovering from the pandemic. We were served by Yuki, who appears to be an owner. She was fun, and kind. It's just a part of a wonderful experience. Go there and enjoy. It's a neat version of Japanese culture, but much cheaper than a plane ticket!

Yelp
I'm a single parent and taking the kiddo out to dinner can be a complicated affair for all the obvious reasons. Add some hunger to the mix and being served relatively promptly is vital. Our server neglected to record my kiddos order (udon) and when we enquired after 25+ minutes she insisted we had never ordered it- odd, given we had stopped by *specifically* for the udon. Rather than apologizing and expediting the solution, she doubled down and insisted any error was our fault. Thankfully we had an appetizer to tide us over but the server's failure to appreciate the situation for what it was turned this visit into a fail. Didn't love it.

Yelp
I've been here many times and always thoroughly enjoy the food. I can't speak to how the menu was in the past, but everything I've had has been delicious. I especially enjoy the shio-abu ramen and the "sizzling salmon rice." Also want to mention how nice it was that they had ozoni for New Year's, good stuff. It's a great place to just sit and take in the ambience, and the staff are all very nice. As far as I can tell, the cooking (minus the sushi) is all done by one guy, so I tip my hat to him. Maybe that means longer wait times than if there were more kitchen staff, but it's not like I'm in a hurry. Just sit back and have some sake or a tall frothy mug of Kirin and relax.

Yelp
Welp, Yelp...last night's attempt to dine at Yataimura Maru was the final nail in the coffin. Learning from my previous failed attempt (see earlier reviews), I checked Yelp to see if the waitlist was up and working, and found the message "Waitlist is closed." Alright, no problem; fortunately, it listed current wait times were ~5 minutes. We jumped in the car and sped down to the restaurant. When we arrived, there were several parties milling outside. When I approached the hosts' table, I could see the Yelp Waitlist tablet adjacent to it, claiming wait times were between 45-60 minutes. Initially dismayed, I noticed the handwritten sign below that said "these times are not accurate, please check in with the host". When I inquired, the host claimed that wait times were...you guessed it, 45-60 minutes, and then asked "Are you on the list?" When I informed him that Yelp's waitlist was "closed", he replied, "Oh yeah, we don't use that anymore." "What list are you talking about, then?" "Did you call ahead?" No, I did not, and explained why. He apologized, and asked if we wanted to get on the list. Absolutely not. Good riddance to what used to be my favorite restaurant in Portland. Heartbreaking.

Yelp
We are staying in the area and decided to give them a try. Their ramen selection is small but unique. They had a chicken, a salmon and a dry ramen as options. We tried the Sapporo and the Abu Ramen. Along with the squid jerky, bacon wrapped quail eggs and shishito peppers. The Sapporo was a very light broth with notes of seafood in it. Subtle enough for someone who doesn't like seafood to be ok with. The toppings were great - the butter added this decadence to it that was nice. The abu ramen is a dry plate, made with udon noodles. The flavor was absolutely incredible! I loved the chili and garlic oil, it coated the noodles perfectly. The fried gyoza topping was spectacular and added that textural variety I liked. The squid jerky apparently had good texture and flavor but he said he wished it had more spice to it. The peppers had an incredible sweet and salty flavor to them. I would eat 900 more of those. The bacon wrapped quail eggs were fantastic too. The eggs were perfectly creamy and the saltiness from the bacon really was a perfect balance. Would order those again 100% Atmosphere was great, staff was super helpful and attentive. Would go back for sure

Yelp
I managed to catch them while they were open once. And the food was good. But not, "catch them within the 10 hours per week they're open" good. Lots of other rock solid Izakaya's open normal hours.

Yelp
I love this place. I love the variety, the ambiance and of course the food. The resturant has different small kitchen's that specialize in different sections of the menu. You can see the employees actively working. I like places with open kitchen's where you can see them preparing your meals. Its like dinner and a show. My friend andbI had come here for lunch. We haven't been here since the whole COVID thing started in the US where alot of our favorite restaurants have shut down, started togos only or modified thier menu. We were happy to see this place was still open, doing dine in or to go but this menu has changed and is a little smaller then what it used to be. They still had a good amount of different dishes to choose from and everything we were craving was still on the menu so it was good for us. We got a little bit of everything and shared. We were hungry an excited and ordered too much that we overly stuffed ourselves on all the goodness. We shared a large ramen, rainbow roll, tobiko and the chicken kaarage. All of it was fantastic. The ramen broth is full of flavor, the sushi was fresh and the chicken had a nice batter. I'm glad to see this place is still alive and thriving.

Yelp
The food was not the best sushi, sashimi, and nigiri I have ever had, but better than 3/4 of many other places I have tried around the country. The flavors were great and the menu choices excellent. Great place to go for authentic Japanese dishes even if you have people joining you who don't like sushi, since there is also ramen, udon, chicken katsu, teriyaki dishes, gyoza, tempura, etc. not a full bar, though you can get beer, wine, well drinks and things like margaritas. I love that it is not a chain, but is local, and Japanese family owned. Service was excellent, and the atmosphere is great for evenings, not the cold, square, modern strip mall decor of most sushi restaurants.

Yelp
I love the sushi here They are open for indoor & outdoor dining. I asked about whether they are going to be open for dining during this month of November and they said yes. Back to the food: I'm here with my friend Keiko (who's from ) because this is her favorite restaurant. Today we had Salmon Handrolls Frenchy Roll with seared salmon and tuna (Keiko's favorite) Rainbow Roll BTW the green tea is excellent.

Yelp
I was in town for literally six or so hours, so when we got to the area we needed to be in, we searched for some lunch nearby. I was craving sushi, and Yataimura Maru had promising photos and reviews. Bonus - they've got Yelp waitlist! You can hop on their waitlist no matter where you are, right on your Yelp app. That is, when we're able to dine in at restaurants again... We were seated within 10 minutes or so on a Sunday during lunch time, which isn't bad. I went with the combo order - half order of ramen and a Real Crab California Roll. The Tokyo Ramen was really good. The broth was very rich and packed full of flavor. Noodles were a great texture and the pork was good. The Real Crab California Roll fell short for me. For starters - we asked for a side of spicy mayo, and they drizzled the TINIEST amount underneath the rolls. When I asked again for an actual side of it after this was presented, the waiter was like, "It's right there. Under the roll," to which I replied, I knew, but I wanted a side since there was barely any on the plate. He came back with the TINIEST AMOUNT EVER. I guess spicy mayo is rationed here? Or maybe he just really didn't want me to have any? Not sure. Outside of that, the roll could've been better. The crab itself tasted dry and not entirely fresh. Decent experience but could've been better.
google avatar

Jonathan F.

Yelp
First ordered the Tokyo ramen. Broth was average at best, the ramen noodles were overly soggy and the chashu was dry and chewy. While not the worst ramen I've had, it lacks the complimentary trifecta (broth/noodles/chashu) you'd find at a quality ramen shop in bigger US cities such as LA's Little Tokyo or San Francisco Japan Town. Also tried the broth-less Abu ramen/udon. It was decent, but nothing memorable. Strangely it almost came off like a watered down "Japanese" version of pad thai due to the flat style noodles. Yet it lacked the bite and flavor you'd get from the popular Thai dish. For a place that tries to come off as authentic with it's rustic Japanese decor and ambiance, the food just wasn't there for me lacking the essential basics that make quality ramen.

Yelp
I had such high hopes for this spot, but was left disappointed and later sick. I had booked a spot between Hawthorne and Division specifically for the food options, and one that immediately attracted me was Yataimura Maru. The pictures looked gorgeous, the interior very authentic looking, the reviews sounded good, and the menu being a mix of ramen, donburi, and rolls sounded great. We arrived out of the pouring rain and fortunately were immediately seated. We were given the menus and we took some time over them, as stated above, there is a lot to pick from. My friend's wife is vegetarian, so she had more than a few options, and eventually we went with an order of agedashi tofu and vegetable gyoza for the table; she went with the V.V.G. Don; my friend got the chicken teriyaki donburi and I went with a Tokyo Ramen and California Hand Roll for me. The appetizers came quickly and were fine. Nothing to write home about. Then my friend got his chicken teriyaki. I did try a piece and it was solid! A few minutes later I received the first of my Tokyo Ramens. I ordered a regular, and due to a mistake in the kitchen, it was split into 2 smalls. The broth was honestly just okay, but I did enjoy the chashu pork. Now what took forever was my friend's wife's V.V.G. Don. Like ridiculously long. As in we had to check with the staff multiple times because everything else had been delivered save this veggie bowl. And every time the staff gave a vague response. Ultimately she did get it and eat it, but the experience was on the down turn. Now all that, I would have left this a 2 star, but the next day in the afternoon I had to run to the bathroom and ended up using it 3 times over the course of an hour. My friend's wife did not join us for our walk about as she was sick as well. Given the other positive reviews, I have to assume this was an off night that we went given the issues with food, service, and quality. But I feel like there are better Japanese spots in the area you could go to instead.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this restaurant via Yelp and we were blown away. Abu ramen - 5/5 it was a hot day, so no broth sounded like an opportune time to try something new. My wife originally wanted Hiyashi ramen, but they had run out. Rather than be sad, she tried the abu and it has risen to the top of her list for favorite ramen in PDX (not yet all time, but she really liked it). The soft egg helps coat the noodles a la carbonara, harmonizing the ingredients into one tasty "pasta" dish. Poke Don - 3/5 - fish was fresh, but the pieces were pretty small. I'm not sure how I felt about the raw spinach just in there with no seasoning, so it gets docked a couple points for that. Shio Kaarage - 4/5 - light and flavorful batter, and the chicken is at the forefront of the dish (not caked behind a thick batter). The chicken is moist and the dipping sauce has the perfect balance of umami (god, I hate using this word) and tang (with the lemon). The inside is meant to resemble a Japanese street alley where izakayas are often found sprinkled throughout prefectures. Its got that hipster Portlandia sprinkled into the mix, but its authentic and satisfying. Quite possibly our favorite Japanese restaurant in the city - which we've been searching for for quite some time.

Yelp
This was always such a good place, until the pandemic. Now it is so basic with its limited offerings and reduced quality, and yet the prices have skyrocketed. I took my daughter there for a quick lunch today. She only orders cucumber and avocado "sushi" but we were charged same price as seafood sushi. I ordered ramen but after the 45 minute wait, I was told the cook was waiting for enough orders to cook any of the ramen orders.
google avatar

Daniel N.

Yelp
Cute place off division. When I walk in it really reminds me of a Japanese street market. It's brilliantly decorated and the ambiance is really great for a get together with a lot of friends. The food was really great. The chicken karagage was really amazing. The ramen was really unique and tasty. I really enjoyed the broth as it was rich and creamy. The staff was extremely nice and attentive. Would come here again for sure

Yelp
I've been on a poke & sushi craze for a few weeks now on the east and west coast, this place had fresh fish and was a good spot to eat. If you're looking for a place to get some sushi and know it's at least good this is the place! The only issue I had was the their management of the customers waiting outside. If you come late be ready to wait or just quit and order take out. They gave off an understaffed vibe and when I was able to put my name on the waitlist they failed to mention that I might not get a table if I wasn't seated by 10:30. Unfortunately, I waited 40 minutes and then they told me I wouldn't be seated!! I would've been ok with this if they had told me this was possible in the beginning. For that I give this spot 4 stars , good/decent food. Their service is a little spotty.

Yelp
Pretty authentic izakaya. It's not supposed to be this high end sushi place (but the fish will make you think it is!) it's supposed to be a place where you hang with your buds after work with beers and shared plates. You can get half orders of ramen and I LOVE that. Most places nowadays just charge you for a giant entree. I like having variety and that's why this place is awesome to me. Also, utilize the bathrooms.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a really good ramen place. I ordered chicken paitan ramen. It was so delicious and flavorful. It has this smoked charsui pork and it's just a blast of flavor. The chicken katsu ramen is also very delicious. The curry has this perfect sweetness and umami. I also ordered takoyaki. Everything that I ordered was delio and I was very satisfied. I would definitely come back here again.

Yelp
The food was good. Service was great. REMEMBER to bang the drums on your way out for good luck!

Yelp
The katsu chicken and curry was very comforting and did not taste like the premade one from the box. The bredding on the chicken was good perfect and the decorations inside were very nice. also the staff was nice

Yelp
Since we moved to mainland from pacific island, aka. Hawai'i, we miss traditional Japanese foods, especially we miss "Yakitori " (skewers grilled chicken) ! It was so hard finding place to eat Yakitori in Oregon!! So we booked the table weeks before and finally we decided to eat some Yakitori over there. Once we got there, so many staffs were welcoming us and took us to the table right away. We are looking at the menu and found out there is no Yakitori Menu in there and I could see their food selection is very limited. Waitress told me that they can't find the grill chef since they laid off so many position since pandemic happened. We were extremely disappointed but ordered some sushi, ramen and appetizer. Taste are ok. Nothing special unfortunately. We won't go back again. You should make sure they have full menu or not before go there!

Yelp
Portland is coming back, baby! After a busy day of errands, my girlfriend looked at me and said, I want ramen. We happened to be in the area and popped by for a late lunch. To our pleasant surprise, Yataimura was open for indoor dining. We popped in and had a great meal. Let's get the COVID stuff out of the way first. Yataimura is doing everything right: staff have gloves and masks, sanitizer is in the front, guests must wear masks when not eating, tables are sanitized between guests and the whole place is social distanced. Everything works well and we felt safe and comfortable during our stay. Next up: the food. It was great. I really enjoyed their slightly different take on Karaage and the Sapporo Shio (Salt) butter corn Ramen was fantastic. Their noodles are tasty and cooked to al dente perfection. It's clear that everything here is done with care. Closing notes? Well, the staff are super friendly and helpful, the place has a cool atmosphere and service was fast. I do miss the days when a place like Yataimura would be packed inside, and maybe with the vaccine getting distributed, we'll see it happen soon. If so, I expect there to be a big crowd waiting to eat here. Until then, we'll definitely be back! #NickRecommended!

Yelp
Food is okay. We order a Tokyo ramen and a Frencher roll. Service is good. I wish yakimono can come back to the menu someday.

Yelp
Wow wow wow.. this restaurant took me by surprise, in the best way possible. It's got that "hole in a wall" vibe and those always end up being the best restaurants. I went for lunch with a couple of friends and we were literally silent eating our food because it was too good to even talk over lol we tried so many things on the menu and everything was truly amazing. THE BEST chicken katsu I've ever had, and the Teriyaki Donburi with salmon was drool-worthy. We also had a couple of appetizers and sushi/hand rolls, but the Chicken Karaage takes the cake. AMAZING! So glad we stumbled across this place. Looking forward to visiting again soon! I forgot to take pics of all the food we enjoyed because we were too eager to wait

Yelp
Our waitress was nice and amazing. Food is decent. My friend got a V.V.G bowl for $12 but he wanted to add chicken. I got a Curry bowl for $12 and added chicken katsu for $3. You would imagine that adding a chicken would be no more than $5 tops. So the bill came out and they wanted to charge me $15 for the whole meal of chicken teriyaki donburi meal. I'm thinking, $15 for 5 pieces of teriyaki chicken???? I would have just ordered the whole damn meal. I didn't even get the whole meal. I told the waitress and she went to talk to the manager and she came back with ONLY taking out $5. Wtf. Now it's $10 for 5 damn pieces of chicken. I talked to the manager and he didn't even cared. He just basically brushed it off and said ok. This place is a rip off. It's not even that great here and food is mediocre. With that manager there, they do not deserve anyone's money. It's ridiculous for charging $10 could have been $15 for a side of chicken. That's a whole meal that I didn't get. Never coming back.

Yelp
Came here with my mom and from what the menu looked like, it was promising and was excited to come here. Little did i know, on Saturdays, the happy hour runs from the early afternoon until the mid evening. Since the happy hour menu isn't so bad, I would definitely recommend ordering from there to save yourself some extra money and getting a decent amount of food while you're at it. With my mom, I ordered the fried calamari, sapporo shio butter corn ramen, chan chan salmon, and gyu don. The food was decent at best, especially for the price of some of the things. My mom said her fried calamari and chan chan salmon were pretty good. However, my sapporo shio butter corn ramen and gyu don were ok at best. For $12, the ramen wasn't that great. The corn wasn't crunchy and was a little stale, the egg wasn't really special, it was just a medium boiled egg, and the chashu didn't have too much flavor and was a little tough. The gyu don was a little different than I have had at other Japanese restaurants. I usually think of the kind of beef you get at Yoshinoya, where it's stringy and thinly sliced, but this was more like shredded beef. That wasn't bad, just not what I was expecting. The service was great, the servers came and checked up on me and my mom pretty often to make sure everything was good, and that was something I appreciated. The restroom was really clean and they have a bidet, which was really cool and something I haven't seen at other restaurants before. Overall, the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't one of the most delicious things I have ever had before. I would say, give it a shot to see how you like it.

Yelp
A brief wait well worth it. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered no broth ramen with veg toppings and a soft egg. One bowl and my mouth felt like the ramen was making love to my palette. My tummy is full. This is a steal at $11, non happy hour prices. Okay I am a happy hour regular. Nothing beats Restorative yoga followed by 3 or 4 hand-rolls I love to end the evening with a hot tub b soak or reflexology massage. Seeking coconspiators Update: a very bad service experience tonight. The poor staff are overwhelmed. The person next to me didn't get their entire order and neither did I. Please please hire more staff!!!! This place has become my second home. It has replaced sex in my self care regimen. Some might dispute that ramen is self care but I'm the Duchess of Maru. The staff are so cool.

Yelp
Japanese restaurants are my favorite for ambiance, dark wood, smaller rooms. Of course they have fine food here as well. Have had and enjoyed the tokyo ramen here a couple times, but this time tried the Japanese curry, which I've never had, anywhere. The curry very tasty, lingering spice reminding me some of pho, but also the thai curry sauce at hat yai. the chicken katsu a little dry on the edges. Tony enjoyed his Tokyo ramen. Friendly service and good variety of choices.

Yelp
Abu udon, you gotta try it, so ymmy. Friendly staffs. ALIAS is super sweet that we have to at least say hi or bye whenever we visit. Super appreciated them for letting us in 30mins before they close. We come there almost every week after work. Highly recommend

Yelp
Went here twice in the last week. Loved the salmon nigiri, so fresh and tasty. Also surprisingly liked the pork skewers (and I'm NOT a pork fan at all) but they didn't have em the 2nd time we went. Wanted to try a few things I saw on Yelp like the chicken yakitori but it's not on the menu is limited due to covid. Also they only serve fake crab in their rolls (I asked to sub real crab, I don't like the fake stuff!) but again they didn't have it to offer. Really liked our servers each time we went, but we're unsure if we'llbe back or not...

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Maru's ramen (and of course their bacon quail eggs), but for this most recent visit I decided to go for edamame, miso soup and sushi rolls. During covid times, seating is limited, but luckily they have heat lamps so outdoor seating is doable if you don't want to wait. All in all, this was a good visit. We ended up getting 3 rolls - the Frenchy, Rainbow and Unagi. The Frenchy is a must get! Heck, it has shallots... And who doesn't like shallot? If the other 2 rolls were as good as the Frenchy, this trip would be an easy. However, they were just ok. In other towns, I might award a 5, but we have so many great options in the PDX, that I had to go with a 4.

Yelp
Never got to eat there, extremely poor service using a kiosk check in even though there were two inept hostesses that had no clue I was even there and thought I was loitering outside on a 97 degree day. Wouldn't go there as they don't seem to value people's time. Owner never did respond to my first review.

Yelp
Food came out pretty quickly. Yummy and flavorful broths. Good noodle consistency. Karaage was also really flavorful with a marinade. Only thing I didn't like was that the food was on the sweeter side.

Yelp
We spent a long weekend at Portland before Christmas and had our last dinner at Yataimura right before heading to the airport. It was PERFECT. They offer tapas style Japanese dishes and various skewers (Yakitori). Every item we ordered was tasty with great presentation: - Friend chicken is more on the deep fried side compared to other Japanese places, but very flavorful. I would come back for this anytime we come back to Portland. - Poke Salad is a nice surprise. Poke style fish cubes combined with fresh avocado and seaweed salad. Very refreshing but honestly would be better for a summer night :) - Matcha green tea brownie made with Tofu! This dessert truly blew my mind. Served with matcha ice cream on the side. The taste of warm brownie and ice cream combined was so unique and good! Other items we ordered were all really impressive, including squid leg skewer, bacon wrapped quail egg and Chan Chan steak. Happy hour pricing before 6 pm, and you can order items from both happy hour menu and dinner menu. Mixed and match. The entire dinner for me and my husband costed less than $60 pre tip. Considering the quality of food and the service and the ambience, this price was more than reasonable. Thanks for the great meal. Look forward to visiting the great Pacific Northwest and the foodie heaven very soon.

Yelp
2 stars for flavor of food. 1 star because the service was excellent. I came for lunch and ordered the Sapporo butter corn ramen with gyoza on the side. I also ordered the spicy tuna hand roll. The hand roll was minced instead of chopped and lacked flavor. 2/5 stars The ramen was a clearer broth and lacked flavor as well. I could taste butter at first but I wanted more umami and depth. The cabbage was boiled/steamed. The Ajitama egg looked haggard but tasted good. There was only one piece of pork and was also average. The noodles were not al dente enough; lacking the signature ramen crinkle and bite. 2/5 stars The gyoza was deep fried instead of pan fried. 4/5 stars. Hot tea was free and unlimited. The staff were very nice. If I were to come again, I would try the tonkotsu ramen instead; that may be more thick and flavorful. Swap the egg for ajitama and get gyoza on the side.

Yelp
One of my favorite sushi / raman / udon spots on division because you really can't go wrong with your menu choice. A friend and I had an earlier dinner here on a Thursday and we were sat right away and service was very attentive! Ordered the Tokyo ramen edamame and the veggie udon with add tempura shrimp. The udon flavor was excellent and is one of my favorites in Portland! I've had the rolls in the past as well and they're good we just didn't order any today. Will be back soon!

Yelp
Soooooo, we want to love this place, but the service has always been horrible. With the exception of Richard. We've been going here for 5 years, and to not have good service in all that time is ridiculous. We went in again for the last time tonight. We placed our order and were literally NEVER checked on. We are a younger multiracial couple, which I would hope would have nothing to do with the service we were given, but the older white couple that came in after us were checked on multiple times. We were basically ignored. And then we had to wait over 15 minutes for our check once all the plates were clearly empty. We always start at a 20% tip which goes up or down depending on service. We have both worked in the food industry and we would never treat guests this way. Who has a good sushi spot recommendation??? We need a new place.

Yelp
Very nice little sushi spot in Portland, the decor was very unique and fitting! We ordered sushi and ramen, the ramen looked so good we couldn't resist, it was perfect for the rainy day outside. The sushi was fresh and flavorful. Spicy salmon roll, tofu ramen and a bottle of Pino Grigio $10 for a glass or $16 a bottle. That was a no brainer. Clean and friendly setting, perfect for a laughter filled night with friends

Yelp
It was traditional, and delicious in every way. Great recommendation for a fun Friday night out in Portland. The service was friendly, and the food was fresh.
