One of the Best Meals We Had in Tokyo – Mainly Thanks to the Service
This was easily one of the best meals we had during our time in Tokyo, and that was largely down to the exceptional service. Whoever our waiter was that night honestly deserves a raise.
To start with, I have to say this was probably the best service we’ve ever received at a restaurant – even compared to some Michelin-starred places. We had two staff members looking after our table, and they struck the perfect balance: attentive at just the right moments, without ever being intrusive. They changed our plates regularly, made sure we had everything we needed, and were genuinely warm and welcoming. Just perfect.
We were originally seated at the back of the restaurant facing a wall, so we asked if we could move to a seat that faced inwards towards the kitchen. Even though the restaurant was busy and we had booked our table three months in advance, they accommodated our request within five minutes. That gesture really stood out.
The Food & Pricing
The food was great overall, though not everything quite hit the mark. The standout dish was the prawn cheung fun – easily the best I’ve ever had.
The char siu bao was solid.
The dumplings weren’t for me, but that’s more about personal taste.
My partner really enjoyed the duck spring rolls.
The pak choi was fine, but quite expensive for what it was – maybe just not to our taste.
The prawn toast was fantastic – some of the best I’ve had – though let down a bit by the presentation. Another table received theirs on a long plate with the pieces neatly spaced out, while ours came in a small bowl, which didn’t do it justice. A small thing, but memorable because the dish itself was so good.
The venison puff was nice, though we would’ve appreciated a slightly larger portion.
The jasmine ribs were a let-down, unfortunately. We chose them over the duck pancakes for something different, but they were a bit too smoky and not very meaty. For one of the most expensive dishes on the menu, they didn’t quite deliver. In hindsight, we should’ve stuck with the duck. It would be great if there were other flavour options for the ribs.
We finished with the custard buns, which were a perfect end to the meal – warm, comforting, and delicious.
Overall Impression
The service here is truly top-tier, and the dishes we liked, we really liked. The ones we didn’t enjoy felt like a noticeable drop in quality, which was a little surprising. Still, the high points made it all worthwhile.
Would definitely recommend this restaurant – it’s on the pricier side for Tokyo, but the experience and service make it well worth it.
