"Northeast Portland Cantonese barbecue restaurant, YaYa, has served its last roast duck. In an Instagram post this weekend, owner Steven Chin announced that the restaurant would close for good after service on Sunday, August 28, attributing the closure to supply chain issues, inflation, the labor shortage, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

A pretty cool place to get some Cantonese bbq food that's not located out in SE 82nd area. The food and presentation is pretty clean. The duck was very tasty and not too fatty. The soya chicken was well flavored and tasty. The crispy pork belly had a little bit too much fat for me, but the skin was very crispy. The char sui pork (bbq pork) was good size, but could have a little more fat in them. The sides - noodles, fried greens, and wontons in chili oil were amazing. The price here is a bit more than the traditional places, but the quality of the food is shown here.

Heavenly food! Roast duck and garlic green beans, YUM! We were served by the kind and generous owner. Beautiful spot — nice wooden outdoor seating, quick, and amazing prices! Did I say DELICIOUS? Do yourself a favor and EAT HERE!

Disappointed but will try again… I ordered online, pick-up was easy, several orders waiting but mine came out just after I arrived. I expected my food would be hot but the duck was chilled, the duck fried rice room temp. Flavors were fantastic but DON’T expect a crispy duck skin, it was limp, and chewy, a surprise but I re read the menu and it says “roasted” with in mention of “crispy”. We tried it cold as presented but opted to heat it. A full duck is a large portion, perfect to serve 3-4 with a sides. Our Duck Fried Rice order was excellent after a re-heat (again why was it not hot?) Ask for an extra duck sauce if you order a whole duck as one is not enough. It was 6:30, on a Wednesday, they were busy with 6 web orders stacked up waiting for pick-up and all outside tables full plus 8 waiting to order. So plan ahead and order online. I’ll give them a couple of months to work out the quality issues and updates to the menu regarding food description, temperature (served cold), and serving suggestions.

We came here on a whim, and so glad we did. The restaurant is going for the casual flair with an order-at-the-counter take-out-only style, which fits its offerings of traditional Cantonese style BBQ known as 烧味 (siu mei). There is no indoor seating, but plenty of outdoor streetside patio seating that is nicely set up. The kitchen is massive and you can observe from the outside in, where you can examine the traditional hanging rotisserie ovens. The owner helped us out at the counter, and quoted a 15-minute wait time. We got our food in just over 10 minutes. You have to eat it right away! First thing we noticed is just how crispy the pork belly was. You can run a fork over the skin and hear the scratch. The fat and meat is still soft and juicy underneath, not dry. The chinese hot mustard and plum dipping sauce is really good. It also came with some standard pickled veggies over a bed of fragrant rice. The wontons with chili oil are hand wrapped but the oil came separate so it wasn't doused in oil. The oil is more of a fragrant scallion oil which we actually preferred over the usual 麻辣 (ma la) chili oil. The star of the show was definitely the roast duck buns. The duck skin was crispy and perfectly glazed while still being a generous cut of meat underneath. It was not greasy but still juicy, and the scallions and coriander add a nice fresh contrast. Overall, one of the best Canto bbq we've had anywhere. It was just a little pricey overall but it was plenty of food for two hungry folks. Will definitely return to try their signature roast duck!

I highly recommend YaYa Cantonese BBQ!!! The roast duck is phenomenal with the most delicious crispy skin. The pork belly steam buns are the best I have had. And the flavor of the green beans pairs perfectly. Amazing! Thank you, Steve!

Excellent Roast Duck, really the best in Portland. It comes with 2 side sauces that are expertly made. You can taste how high end the food is, especially the wontons in chili oil, hot and sour soup, green beans and fried rice. I was very happy with this meal!

Chef owner Steve Chin’s classic Cantonese BBQ spot serving whole/half duck, BBQ pork (cha siu), gua bao & noodle soups. Friendly staff, outdoor seating, chill neighborhood. 👍 BBQ pork bao: pork is moist & tender, ginger pickled red cabb, sweet sauce. Comes with 3 per order, nice snack to share. 👍 Roast duck bao: moist & well done. Hoisin & cilantro.

They have nice Qsingtao beer but.. 6 dried out tiny wontons for 15 dollars!!! yet not as tasty as Trader Joe’s frozen ones. The food was served almost cold even we dined in and not environmentally friendly for their plastic containers. Maybe we were just unlucky?
