25 Iconic Dishes That Define NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"People talk about how good the homemade tofu at homestyle Korean classic Cho Dang Gol is—and they aren’t wrong—but the true highlight of their tofu stew isn’t the crumbly bean curd. It’s the opaque, brick red broth that invades every crevice of your mouth with its sweet and tangy flavor. Get the spicy kimchi version. It's a meal on its own, and reason enough to visit this casual Koreatown staple." - bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick, willa moore, will hartman, sonal shah

Let me start by saying this place was highly recommend by my son and his fiancé. And since it’s a special day that we are all together that night we want to all have a nice dinner together. The food served were all delicious and nicely prepared. We were there Sept 27 around 5 pm. For a family of 6, we indeed ordered a lot of food. We each enjoyed it and paid a good price for the dinner. Part of our order was a raw crab dish. Around $284 to almost be exact. We even had some left overs that we have taken for to go. Here comes Sunday night when I started feeling weird in my stomach, but still went to sleep when early in the morning around 3 am I started feeling weird again and started to run down the toilet to throw up, men that was a lot that came out and I was shocked at what is happening to me. Then tried to go back to sleep but in with in an hour or less I found myself running to the toilet throwing up again like a hose coming out of my mouth uncontrollably. Thinking what could have I eaten that Sunday I am thinking of everything else I had that day. Comes morning when my son and his fiancé texted telling us that they are both sick from throwing up and having diarrhea. By then I had been running to the toilet and not making it and been having accidents in my underwear and pants the whole morning. I said , I am actually having the same symptoms and their Dad just started having diarrhea but he is one who didn’t have the raw crabs dish. Now we checked back with my daughter and she said that she has been throwing up right around the same time early and been having diarrhea too and her best friend that joined us for dinner was having the same issues and she also didn’t have any of the raw crab dish. It all came out that we all have one thing in common is the last place we all ate at for dinner Saturday which is this YD Tofu House. My daughter’s fiancé who is in med school definitely ruled it out as Novovirus which is very contagious that causes gastroenteritis, leading to symptoms like, diarrhea, vomiting and stomach pain. And most common cause is contaminated food or water, ingestion of vomit or stool from infected person. Not only that I can say we got sick from this restaurant is that my mother in law who didnt go with us at the restaurant she had a piece of the pork that we ate from our to go that same night. And she had the same symptoms as all of us at the same exact time which lead us to all think that all the food served to us are contaminated with Novovirus. Novovirus typically starts 12 to 48 hours after exposure to the virus. I didn’t want to say any thing bad with the restaurant for the service was great as they checks in on us making sure we are ok. And food looks amazing. But to bring awareness in making sure food are served clean and people preparing are always washing theirs hands specially when using the bathroom. I am not sure if we are the only ones who has gotten sick after eating here, but because of this we have all been calling in sick from work since Monday and now that it’s Tuesday still doesn’t feel 100 percent back to normal. We have to get Gatorade to avoid getting dehydrated and bought Peptobismol and Imodium just to ease our stomach pain. I will not be going back to this place. I hope this serves as a lesson for them to keep their food servings clean and sanitized all the time. I am not making this review to ruin the business but for awareness. I have done a few reviews but this one I definitely hope will help correct and bring awareness to the restaurant owners to keep everything clean as you are serving food for people and you would want us to come back and not avoid this place ever. So sorry I had to write this but this is our true experience.

Google
crazy - generous portion - variety of Banchan dishes. I don't know and can't name them all but dried fish, white kimchi, pickled radish are my favorites. I was so satisfied and really enjoyed - All well prepared and so delicious. 4 of us all the way from Folsom, arrived kind of late around 9pm almost at closing time. Restaurant staff greeted as soon as we walked into and no rush our dinner at all. Friendly - fast - attentive good service. Restaurant 's clean. Big tables, dining area is comfortable. In my experience, I won't recommend this restaurant for who does solo- dining. You would rather come here with gr of friend 3-40ppl. So we all can share and try different food also banchan. As their food portion is big at high - end price. Recommend the Bosam and pancake. Definitely this is a place for Korean food lovers to check out!

Google
They give you 18 fresh and delicious banchan. 3 dishes we ordered were all great. We were stuffed after Kimchi tofu soup, grilled mackerel, kimchi mandu. Also had fish roe soup, spicy pork, monk fish, galbi, bone soup. Packed with flavor. I recently had bossam and it was memorable. Really nice staff, good price, and great food.

Google
Food was pretty good. All very tasty. Problem is the service. I asked for another set of chopsticks and was told I had enough. At the end I asked for two to go boxes and they bring me 1 and was told it’s enough. I didn’t want to mix tastes. Go the the Freeport location. Much better

Google
It was our first time trying this place. Little bit on the rude side of service. I like to dress down when I go to new places so that I can experience the service properly. There was no recommendations other than the most expensive dishes and the food was ok. I like to judge a place based on their simplest dish and for the price, I'd say it was OK. Lots of people who are seeking culture patronize this place. I think the side dishes were the best part. Other than that, it's not a place that I'd frequently go to. In my opinion, every customer should be treated as if it's their first time and as a host you should explain the menu and the favorites. We left a bit dissatisfied after driving 45 minutes to get there. Plus, we've tried other places on the same street that blew this place out of water when it comes to service and flavors. If it sounds crazy, I drive 389 miles to a small hole in the wall in LA to have their soup and leave craving another bowl. You should try this place and hope you have a better experience.

Best Korean food ever. Would eat here again and again. Very tasty.

G2 beef and bone soup. Fried mackerel. Sweet fried chicken kkanpunggi. Banchan was definitely the MAIN.

Google
To say the portions served here are generous is an understatement. We came in as a party of four, and what we we ordered turned out to be enough to feed 6 to 8 persons. The galbi, rice cake, and bimbimbap were super, the kimchi was fresh all around. The chap chae and fried chicken are below average, in my opinion.

Yelp
Food was amazing but service was poor. A lot of the aunty workers didn't want to give more bonchon, to go containers and the receipt. They avoid eye contact and make you feel unwelcome. Food is authentic. Bossam and the Soon Du Bu soup are to die for. Service is below average.

Yelp
I would say it's time for an update on YD Tofu House! This small business has 2 locations, the staff are very welcoming and sweet and recognize us when we come in! All of their food is authentic, my hubby is from Korea and it's his favorite restaurant! Not to mention they have great portions, we always have leftovers! ~Meal Review~ What we ordered our last visit, Goon Mandu, Pizza Kimchi Shrimp Dolsot, Pizza Kimchi Beef Dolsot, Dduk Gook and Samgye Tang. They have the best variety of never ending banchan and our 8 year old LOVES their fried dumplings appetizer! My husband loves the traditional rice cake soup and our toddler's personal favorite is the Cornish hen soup that reminds her of grandma's! As you can see both of these drool-worthy bibimbap flavors are very cheesy and delicious and come with gochujang! 5/5 Stars! I would definitely recommend this amazing, local restaurant and our family of 4 will continue to come back for our favorites! SYOY! :D *Song Credit: B.there.4.u by Jeff Kaale

Yelp
Their banchan offering is the best in the Sacramento area. They offer 15+ side dishes and you can always request refills of your favorite ones. When I want dependable good Korean food- we will make the trek from West Roseville to eat here. The food comes out quickly, the offering of food selection is plenty and the prices are aligned with the rest of the competition in the area. Why not 5 stars? Their alcohol offering is ok. So definitely not a place to linger for drinking and dining. This place is extremely casual and the parking lot is small. So this place is NOT for ambiance, just for good food and on par service. You get what you get and you don't get upset!

Yelp
We've tried the other location and haven't tried this one. We stopped in on a Sunday early afternoon. Not a lot of people so we were quickly greeted and seated. The ladies here are very quick to get your order and even quicker bringing the food out. We decided on ordering galbi and bulgogi. We didn't expect to also get a sea of banchan. And you ca get refills!! Everything was super tasty!! The meat comes out sizzling. Super full at the end. We like this spot over their other location because the parking is better. We'll definitely be back for more.

Yelp
Stomach virus. Don't normally review, but feel like I should given there are 2 other reviews with the same complaint. 1 from Google, 1 from Yelp. Ate here Saturday 9/27 with my date and we both fell ill Monday 9/29. Vomiting, fever, diarrhea, nauseous. It also unfortunately spread to my roommates so that rules out basic food poisoning. Seems likely that someone in the staff was compromised and handled food. 2 stars because the food was good. Wasn't worth the virus.

Yelp
Love coming for the Bossam, spicy chicken (I think it's best with the sauce on vs. sauce on the side), seafood pancake, and the banchans. The servers here are sweet, the food is delicious and taste and quality is consistent, and there's plenty of seating and they can accommodate big or small groups. They also have a location on Freeport and a ToGo spot on center parkway.

Yelp
Came here around 7PM on a Friday and it wasn't crowded! We were sat right away and the food came out within 10-15 minutes. YD Tofu House gives out the most banchan I've ever seen - I think it was over 10 dishes! My favorite banchan was the japchae. I got the Beef Tofu Soup and Tteokbokki. The tteokbokki was your standard tteokbokki, but I really enjoyed the beef tofu soup! The beef was tender and it had enoki mushrooms! Most beef tofu soups I've tried do not have tender beef and enoki mushrooms like this one, so I would get this again.

Yelp
WOW! Just wow! I am so impressed by this place. The hospitality was impeccable. The ladies really made us feel at home, constantly checked on us, and always refilled our water. The sheer amount of different side dishes/banchans were outstanding. My tofu soup was so flavorful, appropriately spiced, and the meat was so darn tender. Definitely coming back to this place whenever Im in Sactown!

Yelp
If I could give this place a zero I would. I literally order a pork soft tofu soup. I went during lunchtime and usually most of the time we just pay in the front because they look busy. They got a new busser. I proceed to pay and walk to the front and ask my container for my soup and a small banchan box for the kimchi. I was so full that there was more than half of the soup left. I paid and gave them a five dollar tip since this place has my favorite tofu soup to be nice and then I turn around that busser proceed to clean my table. He dump my soup. I'm like there a huge amount left and I'm still in the building like ask first. I was flabbergasted. I got so mad i storm out after I paid but i wanted my soup. I honestly should have left because they proceeds to charge me for the soup and not even a discount. The ladie in the front blame the busser because he a new worker. Like yes it was his fault but he works for your restaurant so it all your guys fault as a restaurant owner, company but the didn't take accountability at all and I proceed to pay for it. I should have just left, that where I mess up. I'm so frustrated. The picture is the full amount of soup there like a line it was right below it so I have about almost 2/3 soup left. Never again and it not like they read this review anyways

Yelp
Love love love this hotspot! I'm already happy when your bonchons arrive on our table! My recent go to was the Tofu vegetable soup! It's served in a boiling clay bowl and they provide a raw egg for you to crack and add to soup. Sooo delish! Another fave is the chicken bulgogi and kalbi bulgogi. I can't get enough of this place. The menu is quite overwhelming but I always stick to my faves! It's always busy but never have to wait long for a table!

Yelp
About a week ago, I came here for my birthday. The staff was friendly. I loved the fact that they serve a large variety of banchans, which is the most I've ever had! There were a total of 18 different kinds of banchan/side dishes including spicy marinaded baby crabs which were one of my favourites. We ordered the seafood pancake (make sure to request for it to be extra crispy!), which was delicious! The galbi was super tender but we felt it needed a bit more seasoning. We also got soft tofu stew with seafood and beef, which was great! Overall, we would definitely come back again to try some of the other dishes. They've got quite an extensive menu so there's a bit of something for everyone.

Yelp
YD Tofu House is one of my favorite Korean restaurants in the Sacramento area. Although I've been to this location many years ago, I recently dined here a couple days ago. From the outside, it appeared dark and empty, however, once we went inside, the restaurant was bright and eventually filled with people. The best part thing about YD Tofu House is the abundant ban chan they provide! It was a nice variety, but I especially liked the japchae, kimchi, broccoli, spinach, and a few other dishes. We ordered the seafood pancake, tofu soup, and bulgogi. The seafood pancake ($19.99) was huge and delicious! It was so good, especially with the dipping sauce w/ jalapeños they provided. The bulgogi ($28.99) came out sizzling and smelling amazing. The meat was somewhat fatty, but full of flavor. The beef and seafood tofu soup ($18.99) was delicious and comforting during colder weather. The staff and servers were really nice and provided good service. The food was really good and overall a good experience!

Yelp
Decent korean restaurant with a very wide variety of side dishes. Galbi-jjim was meaty and came with 6 large pieces of ribs with bones attached. The bulgogi was good, but the meat is a tiny bit on the dry side. The entire meal was filling, and worth the price! Service can be slow though. They're quite a busy restaurant but is clearly understaffed.

Yelp
First time eating here and was shocked by the amount of food I got! What a fun experience! I ordered 3 dishes and all this food came out ... I actually thought I ordered incorrectly. Service is blah.. but I always judge the food first and foremost. The quality was fresh and there was something for everyone. I will definitely be back to try something new. Great spot for someone who loves Korean food and/or loves to explore unique tastes!

Yelp
I don't enjoy most korean food, but I enjoy visiting YD Tofu House. I loved their "pizza bibimbap", which is far from traditional but is very tasty to me. The banchan are tasty as well - I particularly like the japchae. The tofu soups are also done well. The servers are always kind and hilarious and the interior is very spacious and clean.

Yelp
Went with a group of 5 and got 5 items to share with some leftovers: bulgogi: pretty solid, flavor is good and the texture of the meat is not too chewy kimchi pancake: could be a bit crispier but overall tasty soon tofu: I didn't think it was that great but it was my husband's favorite kimchi fried rice: was okay, nothing special fried chicken: had the sauce on the side and it wasn't great. Wondering if it would've been better if we had the chicken cooked in the sauce. Things that stood out were the amount of side dishes that they give. Lots of variety and pretty good overall. For the specific dishes, I would say they were all decent and would satisfy a craving for Korean food.

Yelp
This restaurant deserves 5 stars! YD is one of the best non AYCE Korean restaurants in Sacramento. I had the kimchi soonduboo and it was very flavorful. It was the perfect amount of spice. The raw egg that we can put into the soup was a good addition. The included banchan is amazing!!!! The banchan is the best part of the food there. There is always so many options! The Tteok-bokki was okay 6/10. It was too sweet. The server was super nice.

Yelp
I typically go to the YD Tofu House on Freeport Blvd, but we happened to be in the Rancho Cordova area a few days ago so we decided to try this YD. The food was delicious, service was great, and the restaurant comfortable and clean. We were served so many side items (banchan) that we took most of our main dish (bulgogi and kalbi) home even though it was so good we could've kept eating and eating. Our meals reheated nicely and we were able to enjoy the bulgogi and kalbi for dinner the next day. I will definitely go back for more very soon!

Yelp
The service I received from this place was probably some of the worst I've ever received, even given my own shortcomings as a customer this visit. I called earlier on a Saturday to let them know I would be coming with a party of 15. They took the notice without any objection, so I didn't think there would be any issues upon arrival. We ran about 5-10 minutes late, but they still had our table reserved. When we started arriving we noticed that it was a bit busy, so waiting at the front for an extra 5-10 minutes wasn't a big deal, and we were late. However, once we started getting sat, we were checked on 3 times over the course of an hour. No water ever made it to our table. About 30 minutes in we were given a pen to circle our orders. We did it quickly since we had somewhere to be later in the evening. Nobody came to grab the order after that, so we brought it up to the server. The server took the menu and set it down. It sat there for 10 more minutes without being put in the system. Still no water. We had to go back up to the server to question whether or not we were going to get any proper service. We then started seeing tables being sat and served right away. At that point, the appropriate amount of time we had before our next engagement was no longer, and they obviously weren't too busy to get to us, so we just got up and left. I would give this place zero stars if I could. Absolutely never coming back. Other location is 100x better.

Yelp
I came to eat here by myself. Been here before multiple times but didn't leave a review. I come here once in a while. It is expensive but well worth though. Next round I'll be coming with my hubby and I'll take pictures. People are nice and very attentive. The place is in revocations but the outside though inside is a bit crowded because of the tables but it's still ok. Do I recommend it??? Yes!!!!!!

Yelp
A decent place to get your Korean fix. I think they can work on the consistency of the taste/quality of their dishes. My favorite part is all the side dishes they give you! The place is a good size and suitable for larger parties. Don't expect much in terms of customer service though (although I've been informed that this is normal for Korean culture).
google avatar

James I.

Yelp
Confused as to how this restaurant has a low rating. You can't beat the amount of side dishes that come with the entrees. I do understand the menu items are expensive (but what isn't expensive nowadays) and how the service can be a hit or miss, but let's be real, the ladies who run this place have entertainingly good energy. You give what you receive. Always quick to seat you down and frequent follows up on how the meal is going. Overall it's a good vibe. I keep coming back as the food always hits. This time I ordered the tofu and seafood soup (haemool soon du bu) and took a leak of faith and ordered the grilled sole (gajami gui). The fish had a light crisp exterior with a tender interior that easily cut with a fork. The bones were easy to remove. I plan to add this to my rotation! I'll be back.

Yelp
I came here for a late lunch with coworkers around 1:00 PM on Christmas Eve and luckily it was not that busy despite it being the holidays. We got seated quickly and our order was taken after we were given a decent amount of time to decide what we want. One thing I love about YD is how many side dishes they give and how tasty it is. My favorite side dishes are the japchae, fish cake, sweet potato, and the baby crabs because it is so flavorful and crunchy. They also gave us some warm radish soup on the side and I thought it was good, but my friend said they did not like it because it did not have much flavor and tasted like chicken water to her. Since they said Christmas Eve is a holiday, there was sadly no lunch deal for the meats. My friend still ordered the spicy pork bulgogi because that is her favorite. She also got lettuce, garlic, and jalapeño on the side which is an extra 5 dollar charge. We also got a seafood pancake and a beef bibimbap. We were looking forward to trying their kalguksu, but unfortunately they said they sold out the day before since it was so busy at night. The food came out pretty fast and it was delicious. They give a good amount of meat, and the seafood pancake was so yummy with the jalapeño soy sauce made for it. However, it seems like they used a lot of oil to pan fry it because there was a little pool of oil at the bottom. The bibimbap was good but it needed more sauce and a worker took away the gochujang sauce bottle right away after we set it down because thought we were done with it. Service was good, but it can be a little challenging to communicate and understand the employees at times because English is not their primarily language. Overall, this is a great Korean restaurant to eat with friends and family, but it can be pricey. Having more people would be a good way to split the costs and pay less per person. The store is clean and decorated nicely. I like this location way more than the other one on Freeport because the food at here is more consistent in quality and tastes better. Also, the parking here is slightly better because it has a few more spots in their own small dedicated parking lot.

Yelp
Had the mixed beef bone soup. Rich and creamy bone broth with PLENTY of meat. Make sure you dip your meat in the sauce which takes jt to another level. And the amount of banchan (side dishes) they give you is borderline ridiculous. Friendly and attentive staff! Definitely would go back :)

Yelp
This was definitely one of the best Korean restaurants I've been to in the Sacramento area. All the food was so delicious. The service was ok... it takes a while for them to get to you and they also forget about you but the food was so good I had to give it a 4 star. The banchan (appetizers) they served were a lot and can definitely be refilled. The oxtail soup was light but very refreshing. You add salt and pepper and green onion according to your own taste. The broth is bland but earthy itself. The galbi Jim was very delicious and the meat was so tender it fell off the bone. I love that it came with potatoes and carrots too. The bibibimbap tasted good but it was pretty average. The pork belly bossam was definitely the star of the show. The pork belly was so tender and the lettuce wraps the restaurant gives is soaked in some kind of sweet marinade that pairs perfectly with the kimchi. The yellow croaker was good too.

Yelp
Great food and service. Introduced daughter's family to Korean food, and they loved it! Huge menu, and best ban chan assortment.

Yelp
First time at a Korean restaurant other than AYCE Korean BBQ. Everything was so tasty! My husband doesn't like fishy foods so he didn't like my beef/seafood tofu soup but I sure liked it, it didn't taste fishy at all to me. Can't wait to try more things. The menu is large and a little overwhelming but I love that there are so many new things I can try. Staff was super sweet, our waitress was so sweet with our baby and got us a good sized table to fit our stroller (will not bring stroller next time, space is limited). Great experience!
google avatar

Yelp
The spread goes crazy here, probably the most variety and number of banchan I've had at any Korean spot in California. Absolutely loved trying the huge selection of authentic side dishes that I've never had before. The seafood pancake was so crispy and perfect batter to filling ratio. Also love that they have a cheesy soondubu. Ambiance is chill and no frills, lots of seating and located off a main road with a big on site parking lot. Definitely would have been five stars but the service interesting, they left us waiting for a good 20 min after we tried finding someone to take our order, then they told us to just mark on the menu and give it to the kitchen? Overall would come back if I were in the area, the food quantity and quality both hit.

Yelp
This place can get filled fast. My husband and I went on a Sunday night around 7p and the crowd just slowly came in. Couples, families, and friends - you name it! The prices are pretty fair and they give you a good portion of food along with a variety of 10+ banchans that you can munch on. You can literally make every bite unique and delicious. Some of my fave banchans are the little soft shell crabs, kimchi, anchovies, bean sprouts, the sweet sticky potatoes and all the variety of pickled veggies. We ordered the chicken bulgogi, the seafood pancake and the tofu seafood soup. We had enough leftovers to eat again for lunch the next day. The servers and sweet, kind and efficient. And you can tell they work together to serve you :). The place gets busy but they still make sure you are taken care of.
google avatar

Sou L.

Yelp
Still my go to place for Korean food! Their Bossam is sooo good and the staff there are so friendly.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
The food is legit and the banchan is very authentic to traditional styles with less sugar throughout (tho the kimchi was still too sweet for my preference). Lunch menu is very reasonable considering the spread laid out before you. Try the pork soft tofu soup spicy for a nice kick cooked down by the hot tea Don't expect American style service, if you don't ask for it they're not coming around to check on you. And that's ok with me.
google avatar

Monica T.

Yelp
We are regulars here. Most of the dishes we've tried are mediocre and we haven't ordered again, but I love their steamed mandu and bossam. Fiancee's fav is also the bossam. The portion is huge and we leave with a ton of leftovers each time even if it's the only dish we order. My mouth is watering as I'm thinking about it. They give plentiful side dishes which taste good too and really help with filling you up. Side note: you have to order a main to get the side dishes. One time I only wanted to order the gogi mandu but I was warned it wouldn't come with the banchan. I think that's reasonable. Service is hit or miss and definitely depends on the server you talk to. A few of the ajummas are friendlier than others, and 1 in particular with curly hair and glasses is very nice and lights up whenever she greets us. The first time we were there, I thought she was rushing us to order but really she was just trying to get our order in before some larger parties that were seated at the same time. She was worried that we would have to wait a really long time for our food (I didn't realize until after it was too late). The non-ajummas who've worked there have always been nice too.

Yelp
We stopped in for dinner with friends who live in the area. The restaurant was busy, however the service was very prompt. We were seated and enjoyed the following Bulgogi Kim chee fried rice Bibimbop Mandu Galbi And all of their delicious sides! The food was amazing! Authentic, flavorful and plentiful! We ended up taking home a lot of leftovers. Enjoyable meal with very helpful and attentive service! I'm a fan

Yelp
This place is GREAT! We are novices in the BBQ Korean style. Thought we'd give this place a go. First off: Very modern, very clean- super impressed.we were there for an early dinner and the place was empty. The wait staff all greeted us as we walked in and it was a good start. After we were seated our waiter brought water and answered 4-5 questions we had about the menu, the sides, the appetizers and what different items were on the menu. We looked it over a few minutes, he returned, took our order. The appetizers/sides arrived maybe 3-4 minutes after we placed our order, and our entrees 5-6 minutes after that! Wow, what a feast. I had the bulgogi and my girlfriend had the Korean short ribs. Next time we'll split a chicken or fish dish. We took 1/2 of each of our plates home. The eatery filled up by the time we were finished. It appeared everyone was greeted and seated promptly. Portions were big, fresh and off the chart delicious We'll be back very soon.

Yelp
My friends and I came to this restaurant for dinner after a fun day of snowboarding at Tahoe. We were craving Korean food and my friend remembered going to this restaurant before. The place was clean and the vibe was quite lively. The service wasn't greatest as the staff were rushing us to order, and took a while to give the food (including the side dishes). Despite the okay service, I was blown away by how good the food was. They served almost every Korean side dish I know of at once from fish cake to kimchi to the glass noodles. The picture I took explains it all. We got the seafood pancake for the appetizer, and it was MASSIVE (the biggest seafood pancake I saw). It was also very yummy as well and had a good amount of seafood. I got the kimchi beef soon tofu, and it was also really good. It was a very big bowl and had a lot of tofu and meat. It wasn't too sour and had a nice savory flavor. I had a fun time eating this with the provided rice and will give this meal a solid 8.5/10. I left the restaurant satisfied and happy that I know a good Korean restaurant in Sacramento in case I go on another trip to Tahoe!

Yelp
If you want a happy belly, you gotta try YD tofu house. The bonchon alone is satisfying and plentiful. I love that they give authentic bonchon rather than American nonsense that other KBBQ spots are known for (and I waste). Galbi Tang soup- delicious. Seafood pancake- a little overcooked this time but huge and ready to feed an army. Kalbi - excellent. I'm a regular because it's that good.

Yelp
We ordered raw marinated crab, soon du boo soup , fried fish , and bibimbap as our main course. Everything was delicious & well seasoned. The raw marinated crab was my favorite . The crabs were packed with spicy sauce that was drenched all over the crab. The soon du boo soup had lots of ingredients and was cooked in a hot stone bowl. This also had lots of flavor and was delicious. I couldn't get enough. The fried fish was good but I would have preferred it fried a little harder. The bibimbap didn't stand out too much and was your average standard of what it tastes like. Next time I'll pass on this dish or opt for the stone bowl option instead. The one thing that stood out about YD Tofu House was the large amount of banchan. Banchan are small plated dishes filled with amazing korean sides of veggies and various kimchi. Typically Korean restaurants will give you a standard 5 or more banchan. YD Tofu House gave us over 10 banchans. You can always get unlimited refills as these banchan comes complimentary with your main meal. Our waitress was extremely friendly but the service could be improved as we had to ask for her more than one occasion to get refills or order additional dishes. I wish she would have checked on us frequently especially since we came when there was a small volume of people dining in.

Yelp
My friends and I came here tonight after hearing some good things about this place and I was not disappointed. The inside was really nice and clean, everything was spaced out well. When I arrived, we were quickly seated and our order was taken. Not long after the banchan arrived. They had a large variety of side dishes including a one per table soft shell marinated crab which was really good. The japchae was ok, but I really liked their kimchi and fish cake. We ordered the seafood pancake, beef bulgogi, and fried calamari. The calamari had a little too much breading but the inside tasted good. 3/5 The beef bulgogi was really fresh and came with a good sized portion. It was sweet and savory, really good 4.5/5. Finally the seafood pancake was really good as well, one of the best I've had in the area, would also give it a 4.5/5. The service was really good, it felt like every time I was running low on water or we were running out of banchan, they would come over for a refill. Absolutely great service! Overall my experience at YD Tofu House was great and I will be back soon.

Yelp
Banchan galore! My best friend suggested we come here so I could see their banchan and I was pleasantly shocked. This was a hearty lunch and we both left stuffed. The restaurant is clean, well-lit, and a casual spot. Smelling the meat and dishes will have your mouth salivating. Though service is quite lacking as we weren't checked on at all and I had to flag down the workers. On the upside, our food came out somewhat fast after we placed our order. My friend and I both love Korean food. I ordered the Haemool Soon Du Bu in Mild which included seafood. Having gotten back from South Korea and eaten a fair share of Korean food in my life, this soondubu didn't amaze me. It was average, hot, and spicy, and had lots of chewy and overcooked seafood. I'd say the highlight was their practically countless banchan. I'm not familiar with the Korean food scene in Sacramento, but YD Tofu House is standard. The food is on the pricier side but portions are decent! They have two locations in Sacramento but parking for this one is in the lot out front. If you're okay with slow service then give it a try.

Yelp
We came here around 5pm on a Friday night, and there was plenty of seating and parking. However, it started getting really packed in the parking lot and in the restaurant around 6pm, so I would recommend going around the same time we did if you go on a Friday night. The restaurant was a lot more spacious inside than it looked like from the outside. I was a bit nervous about the service based on previous reviews, but I think because we got there before the rush, we were able to order and get our food in a timely manner. There were so many different options on the menu, and we ended up ordering meat japchae, hot stone beef bulgogi, and Chadol Sul Lung Tang (beef in beef bone soup). The soup and bulgogi were both really yummy, and the japchae was a large portion size. However, our japchae did not have meat in it and was a bit cold, so we felt like that could've been better. The side dishes were plentiful and delicious! I also liked that we could get complementary hot barley tea. Next time I come back, I'd love to try the tofu soup, seafood pancake, and pizza dish!

Yelp
Disappointed All Over Again - Poor Customer Service I decided to stop by this restaurant for dinner with my girls to catch up. it's been a while since I've been here, and honestly, the main reason I stayed away before was because of the customer service. After years of avoiding the place, I thought I'd give it another chance. Big mistake. We were chatting and enjoying ourselves when a lady came by with the check and some fruit. No problem there. But 20 minutes later, as we were still catching up (since it's been a while since we last saw each other), she came back, didn't see a card on the table, and rudely asked, "Who's paying? Only one card." We were completely caught off guard, we hadn't even talked about payment yet. While we scrambled to grab a card, one of my friends asked what time they closed since we were still talking and clearly not finished. The lady told us we had 20 minutes left until we had to leave. It was only 8:30 PM and they close at 10 pm. That really ruined the vibe. We stayed for the remaining 20 minutes, and during that time, we hadn't signed the receipt or left a tip yet again, because we were still talking. The same woman came back, grabbed the receipt, saw no tip written down yet, and actually said: "There's no gratitude included... so where's the tip?" Honestly, I was shocked. Who says that? This is exactly why I stopped coming here in the first place. The service is rude, unprofessional, and rushed. They didn't check on us once, didn't refill our water unless we flagged them down, and clearly just wanted us out. We still tipped because we always do but frankly, they didn't deserve it. If you're looking for a place with good customer service, this isn't it.

Yelp
Ordered the food for over 25 minutes still nothing served, just iced water. This is ridiculous service, is not even a pack place. Only like 4-5 tables including us. Not even the bonchon, bonchon is the appetizer which comes with the Korean order. Nothing for 25min is a joke, at least give bonchon after the food is ordered.

Yelp
This is my goto spot for Korean food. We were greeted immediately after walking in and led to a table. The workers are always very kind and nice here. Their prices have gone up a lot, but I would still say it's worth it considering how much extra food you get with the amount of sides they give you. They give you like 16+ plates of banchan side dishes with your meal. Which is more than any other Korean place I've been to. This time I went I got the soft tofu stew. It was very tasty on a cold gloomy day. It had a good ratio of tofu/ beef and the perfect level of spice for me at mild. It comes with a bowl of rice and they crack an egg in the soup for you as well.

Yelp
The food is fantastic. I have travelled to Seoul quite a number of times, and I can confidently say that the YD Tofu food is authentic. The food also tastes fresh, as you can tell that they do care about the quality of the ingredients. You can bet that no preservatives or coloring or whatever additives were used. I come to this restaurant regularly, because I love Korean food and the food is just great. This resto did not change the taste to fit local palate, which is great in my humble opinion. The servings are huge, so this is best enjoyed with a number of people. Korean food (as is the case with most Asian cuisine) is usually served family style anyway. So my suggestion is to order three or two dishes to be shared among 2-4 people, instead of ordering one specific dish for each person. I love the ladies who wait on tables. They are thorough and thoughtful. Or maybe because I'm a repeat customer. I have brought a lot of friends to share food with me, and they know how much I love their food. Ambience is family style and casual, but not too casual. The place is usually packed with professionals at lunch time, and families on the weekends.

Yelp
On one hand, the food quality itself is excellent, and I was absolutely floored by the spread of side dishes here. The tofu soup was fantastic, and the seafood pancake was almost as good (a little too oily for my taste but the contents inside the fried shell were amazing). Side dishes are one of my favorite things about most Korean restaurants and these did not disappoint, with a wider selection than I've seen anywhere else. On the other hand, the food was quite pricey, and service was...lackluster to say the very least. Lackluster for bare basics, like taking our order, giving us water, go icing is all the items we ordered, giving us the check -- all of these things the staff had seemed to have forgotten from us, and we had to chase them down for all of these things. I'm not normally one to knock down a rating for meh service, but it did take us basically twice as long at each step of eating here because of it. That combined with the high price point makes me hesitant to wholeheartedly recommend this place, despite the excellent food.

Yelp
Easiest 5 star review! YD Tofu House is sooo good. I've converted many a friend to Korean food by bringing them here. The bibimbap is excellent, as are all of the soups. And the side dishes! Don't get me started on the side dishes, I wish I could just order them by themselves! Everyone here is so kind, and the restaurant is very clean and well kept. If you are on the fence about trying YD Tofu House, give it a try. You won't regret it! :)

Yelp
This location is very clean. Immediately upon stepping inside; it is clear that they take great pride on first impressions. Everything was spotless, despite it being the middle of the dinner rush! We were greeted immediately and the staff was attentive without being overbearing. The food was incredible. My partner had the dolsot bibimbap and I had the soondubu. Ample portions and high quality ingredients. Very plentiful banchan and all of impeccable quality. Every time a main course passed us on the way to a nearby table, I was amazed by the consistent quality of presentation of every single dish. I don't think there's a single "miss" on this menu. Order something you like, and you're likely to enjoy it here as well. I will 100% be back. Now I just need to teach my partner how to say "음식이 맛있었어요!" prior to our next visit!

Yelp
18 types of banchan, and solid in all areas from grilled meats (we had kabli and dwaeji bulgogi) to bibimbap to soondubu to tteokbokki (bonus: came with an boiled egg) to haemul-pajeon. Excellent service, despite the insane Mother's Day crowd. Parking can be difficult, so if you can't find parking even in the rear lot, use the Walgreen's lot across the street.
