What to Eat at the New Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport

"Ye Olde College Inn (and Dooky Chase) opened in the old airport in 2013. This expanded version, fronted by a bar, offers great breakfast offerings (green tomatoes, Louisiana shrimp and poached eggs!) along with po-boys and Southern specialties. Get the crawfish mac & cheese and know that it feeds two." - Beth D'Addono

4 Stars - Solid Airport Bite with Room for Improvement Stopped in at 5:30 AM on a Thursday and was seated immediately at the bar—definitely a good start. Service was quick at first (we were the only ones there), but it slowed down significantly as more folks arrived around 6–6:30 AM. They could really use another set of hands during peak times. I ordered the $9.99 breakfast po’ boy and opted for sausage. It came with eggs, cheese, and a lightly toasted roll—not true Louisiana-style po’ boy bread, but it was warm, soft, and did the job. We asked for mayo on the side, which helped round out the flavors. The sandwich wasn’t anything fancy, but for the price and setting, it was totally solid. The bartender also mixed up a pineapple and Tito’s drink that was on point—nicely balanced and refreshing. Overall, if the place is empty and you want a quick, affordable breakfast before your flight, it’s a good bet. Just hope you’re not competing with a full crowd and a solo waitress. They definitely need more staff to keep up with demand.

You want a place where staff enthusiasm for good service or overall work is none existing ? A place where the food you get does not match the description on the menu ? A fantastic bar where you leave more depressed than spending a evening with dementors ? Look no further. Experience the excellence of Ye Olde College Inn at NOLA airport. I've ordered Caesar salad. No croutons, no parmesan. Just couple of random whole lettuce leaves, bacon topping and white dressing ... Dogs on the street eat better than this.

Google
Well. The menu was sticky and so was the table. The bacon breakfast sandwich was good, but the bun was very dull. The coffee was basic, but hit the spot. The waitress was responsive. I would go again if no other choices

Google
EXTREMELY OVERPRICED Stay away. The beers were 15 dollars each Plus tax. And it's a high tax! The ceaser * teaser* salad was 13 dollars but only worth Three. It's Truly the worst New Orleans experience Ever. There is no selection for negative stars but they definitely earned it in every way. You have been warned ⚠️

There was one cook, one waitress, and one bartender/hostess for a busy airport terminal... service was NOT going to be efficient or effective. Bypassing all of that - and the incredibly long wait just to get our drink orders of a cup of ice and ice water - was pretty good food. We ordered the American breakfast: two pancakes, bacon, cheese grits, two scrambled eggs, and a biscuit. My daughter's biscuit was burnt and I didn't really enjoy mine. Everything else was really good. The grits were too thick for my liking but still tasty.

Google
This is a good restaurant at the airport. I came here for breakfast and I ordered the shrimp and grits which were really good. It was extremely hot and I had to wait several minutes for it to cool down. But it was a good portion of food and was reasonably priced.

I don’t know why there are so many negative reviews… Perhaps it’s a disappointment compared to the original location, but in terms of airport food, it FAR exceeds expectations. My wife and I were here before a morning flight, so their menu was limited compared to usual. I ordered a breakfast po’ boy, which was pretty good. It’s basically just a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on a baguette. The baguette is what made the sandwich good — it was crisp, well-buttered, and with just the right amount of crunch. My wife ordered shrimp & grits, however, which proved to be the better choice. I was skeptical that shrimp & grits in an airport could be very good at all, but it was phenomenal. So much better than any airport food has business being. The service was quick and friendly. The vibe? Well, about what you would expect from an airport restaurant. The next time we’re at MSY with time to kill, we know where we’re going. Don’t let the negative reviews scare you off.

We had an early morning breakfast here before catching our flight. Our waitress Brittney was just super, she saw that we were in a hurry and she made sure to take our order quickly and delivered the food in to-go containers just in case we had to run. Brittney was very energetic and had a great attitude, she checked on us multiple times to make sure we had everything we needed. The kitchen was very good too, I was impressed with the quality of the scrambled egg in our sandwiches- it was soft and silky kind of like a French omelette and it was delicious on the crispy baguette. All in all, the whole team did great and we had a good experience!

Yelp
All paper and plastic dishes and utensils - tacky. Skip the shrimp & grits - the four small shrimp are unshelled and cleaned, and the grits were bland and served scalding hot. Literally nothing about them had any taste. Out of more beer items than were on the menu; cocktails unavailable were scribbled on the menu - get revised menus! The wedge salad was drowning in bleu cheese dressing. Hard to maneuver in the small paper bowl.

Yelp
Great food and drinks. Nice open air joint right along the main walkway near the C Gates. Had delicious shrimp and grits with Monica sauce (yum!) and a nice cool, crisp wedge salad. Prosecco for me, killer bloody for him (and another bloody for me, thank you very tasty). Gladys provided nice service even though she was very busy.

Yelp
This looked like it could be a decent spot for food at the airport. There were plenty of seats and it was clean. Service can be a little slow between ordering and receiving the food. If you're in a rush before your flight, I wouldn't recommend. Waited 20 mins to get the check and it wasn't busy. The fried shrimp Po'Boy was loaded shrimp. It overall tasted okay, I am not sure what to expect and didn't have a chance to grab one in the city. The price doesn't seem outrageous for the airport for the amount of food you get.

Yelp
Odd expierence. We sat at the bar, and there were 3 other people at the bar. We put our bag on the chair next to us, but for some reason, the bartender needed us to move our but not the 3 guys that had their bag next to them. They weren't busy and didn't get busy in the 20 minutes we were there. The server that stepped in for the bartender that disappeared was very nice and checked on us a couple of times.

Yelp
Gumbo 5 stars. Old fashioned on point. Trish is amazing. I'm a pretty damn good cook but I can't make gumbo like that. I took a bite of my buddies fried green tomato shrimp po boy & it was really good too.

Yelp
Not bad at all. Been by this little place for years and never came by before. Nothing that screams great service but good big breakfast sandwich. All I need..

Yelp
Ordered the Fried Green Tomato and Shrimp Remoulade Po Boy. That's exactly how it's written on the menu. They put hot fried green tomatoes on cold seasoned shrimp! I was expecting a hot sandwich but the cold shrimp and remoulade turn the fried green tomatoes lukewarm at best. Also asked for it dressed which menu clearly states includes mayo but this sandwich didn't have any. Could have been really good if the shrimp were fried and hot.

Yelp
No pricing on the drink menu, you have to ask about every single beer vs wine vs cocktail. Service is slow but the wine glass is nice.

Yelp
Excellent fresh food and quick frindly service! We stopped at Ye Olde College Inn in November 2023 to grab a quick dinner before our flight home. Despite so many negative reviews our experience was excellent. We were sited right away and our waitress Denise was very friendly and attentive. The drinks and food were served fast which was important as we didn't have much time. The food was surprisingly delicious for what seemed to be just an average airport eatery. We got Crawfish Mac & Cheese, Slow Roasted Beef Po'Boy, and grits on the side. All were excellent and tasted great and fresh. The portions were generous. Denise was checking on us for drinks refills and she brought extra butter for grits and even some butter substitute though we didn't ask for it. It felt she really cared for us to enjoy the meal, relax, and be comfortable. And we were:) Thank you! We highly recommend this place if you're in that terminal and looking for good food with quick service.

Yelp
For an airport establishment, I was pleasantly surprised. Good gumbo. Friendly service. Draft beer options nothing special and fairly pricey, but some local cans and bottles for better beer and better prices. (No prices on menu, so that's a negative. Another big plus, tons of power outlets all along the underside of the bar, so I was able to fully charge my laptop and phone while enjoying a pre-flight meal and drink.

Yelp
I would give zero stars if I could. They wouldn't serve me and said they had no food after I was told to wait at a table. I saw others being served so I am not sure if they refused to serve me for other reasons. I would not recommend trying to eat here.

Yelp
Avoided Oysters my whole life. Now I love them. Flight delayed 1 hour so I'm eating Oysters Bleu ~ Crispy Louisiana Oysters, shredded iceberg, purple onion and a blue cheese oil. Not bad and a little strange but I'm making up the lost time both in my not enjoying Oysters in the past and my flight was again delayed.

Yelp
Food was good, hot and big portions. Service was like dial up internet but I had time to kill. Try the fried green tomato po boy and sub for fried shrimp. Taste like heaven.

Yelp
Ye Olde College Inn (aka Old College Inn) represents a great example of what makes New Orleans great over the decades - what the spirit of NOLA is really about - it is family owned and operated - it is a loving gathering place to share meals, a drink and friendship. For those of us lucky enough to live here in NOLA this one of our great places. For the food, personally I mostly get the grilled fresh fish with whatever are the in-season home/local vegetables. If & when my wife is not watching my waistline then I treat myself to the Onion Rings (apetitizer) followed by a delicious and hardy hamburger steak - or fully dressed po-boy. Many of we locals come on the early side directly after Saturday or Sunday afternoon mass at St. Rita's and we beat the 6:30-8:30 full house. If you are looking for a current trendy restaurant you might just want to stop in for a drink, shake hands with the 15-20 locals at around the bar and then head to the current moment fusion-of-choice. Only 35 years in New Orleans, I remain.

Yelp
First, $15.50 for a 12oz local lager in a flimsy plastic cup? I mean, I fly a lot, I thought that $$. I was going to order a po boy but they were $23 and no fries included! Plus the server/ bartender had zero interest in being there, or me being there, so I left. It wasn't busy.

Yelp
Before the new terminal was built, I remember always seeing this place, but never thought to try it out. After not getting on our first standby flight, we decided to give it a try here in the new terminal. Not bad, but not out of this world either. I had the roast beef po boy which was generous in size, but just slightly average in taste. The rosemary fries were good. Bloody Mary tasted like it might have been a canned mix, like what we serve on the plane. Nothing about this place was bad, but nothing jumped out either. Maybe it's flagship location is more redeeming.

Alison M.

Yelp
We like the uptown Ye Olde College Inn, but our experience at this location was not good. The menu is very limited, and as I will explain, even the limited menu was not really available. It took awhile for anyone to acknowledge us, even though the restaurant was only half full. While waiting, we overhead another group order one of the two advertised signature drinks, a Hurricane. The waitress told them sorry but they were out of Hurricanes. I understand supply chain issues, but being out of your featured drink? I ordered a Caesar Salad. Pretty simple, right? I receive a bowl of romaine lettuce with remoulade-like dressing. Just lettuce. On the menu, they make a point of saying they use "Leidenheimer" croutons (a popular local bakery). No croutons were served. The only parmesan cheese was in the dressing. I asked why the dressing was not the typical Caesar salad dressing, and was told, "we make our own." That is fine, but when ordering a Caesar salad, I expect something resembling Caesar dressing. My salad was served without comment and the server left. When she came back, I asked about the croutons. "oh, I think we're out." Another staff member said they were receiving their delivery while we were eating. They were not particularly apologetic. We paid our bill and left, and will not go back. There are better places at the airport - I wish we had just purchased a pre-made sandwich. That would have been a better meal.
google avatar

Stacey B.

Yelp
For was over cooked and over priced. $16.50 for a very cheap very overcooked spicy chicken sandwich. The sandwich was not at all spicy and had very little sauce. Lemonade was very weak and had no flavor. Server was very busy and the only one running the entire area. You could tell she was stressed and overwhelmed.
google avatar

Eric C.

Yelp
Never ever eat here... seriously, run away to any other eatery in MSY. The salad looks like a pigeon relieved himself on it, and good luck finding crawfish in the crawfish mac and cheese. And who runs out of gumbo at 4:45 in the afternoon? There were no clean dishes, so we were served everything (including the beer) in plasticware, but maybe this was for the better, since given the state of the food, our health may have been protected by this.

Jay S.

Yelp
Food was subpar and flavorless. I had the roasted beef and it looked worse then it tasted, which was pretty bad. My wife had the shrimp po boy with fried green tomatoes which would have been a better option but still not gourmet by any means.
google avatar

Tori M.

Yelp
Super limited menu and extremely overpriced, even for the airport. $18 for a fried shrimp Po'Boy? Dang I'll go get a Lucky Dog for those prices. But the service is good and there's a full bar so if you're looking for a place to do your crossword puzzle, make sure you order a drink and tip your server/bartender!

Yelp
It was alright. This was our first time to Ye Olde College Inn. This review is for the airport location. We found seating with a power outlet, so that was nice Our server was prompt and pleasant. We ordered food and beers. The beers came out quickly and the food was close behind. We had: - BBQ Shrimp PoBoy - Fried Shrimp PoBoy - Gumbo - Draft Beer The beer was cold and refreshing. The gumbo was really tasty bit wasn't served very hot. The PoBoys had a lot of shrimp on them. We felt the buns they were served on were a bit too large and not very soft. Too hard to hold and eat the PoBoy without the shriimp constantly falling off. But the shrimp was tasty. The fries served with the shrimp were not hot and crispy. Rather, they were barely warm, soft and limp. We'd eat here again for the convenience and food taste but we'd order the shrimp without the bun and we'd ask for the fries to be hot and crispy.

Stormi W.

Yelp
Both employees I interacted with were terrible. Took forever to take my drink order and were out of my first 3 lunch choices. Skip this place.
google avatar

Sophie W.

Yelp
Basically a deconstructed IHOP and we really wanted to go to IHOP at some point during this trip so it was nice to get one at gate C. Good service and a great seating location in this big leather half oval booth in the corner of the restaurant.

Mark C.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. Was discouraged to enter and order. Was told "if you hurry and order it's ok because we close soon". It was 50 min prior to closing. Not a friendly place.

Janaya S.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars, I would. THESE PEOPLE ARE THIEVES. More specifically Lusy. We ordered 3 lemon drops and fries. Lusy took our, card, charged it and then gave us the receipt. We never got the check prior to handing her the card to see the total. When she handed us the receipts. She had charged us $84. The actual bill was $71. She filled out the tipping portion of the check on our behalf and ripped herself $12. When we asked her why she did that, she told us parties have an automatic 15% gratuity added their check. There was no signage or fine print anywhere stating this info. Mind you, there was only 4 of us and we only orders fries and drinks. When consulting with other staff, they told us they do not charge gratuity for parties. On the receipt, the portion that Lusy tipped HERSELF, shows the word tip, not gratuity. If you look back to previous reviews, this is a normal occurrence of Ye Ole College Inn. Don't come here. On top of all that, the drinks and food were nasty

Yelp
After my last business trip I was waiting at the airport for my United Airlines flight to return home. I was thirsty and hungry so I opted for this historic restaurant near my gate. I started with their Patron Perfect Margarita with Patron Silver Tequila, Patron Citronge with fresh lemon/lime margarita juice, which I enjoyed. I also enjoyed my Turkey Andouille gumbo for $8.80. Service here was quick and pleasurable. If I had the time waiting for another flight I would definitely return here again.

Marge V.

Yelp
Gumbo is lukewarm. My bowl has 25% more product than my wife's. Service is fast and friendly, just need good food
google avatar

Angele H.

Yelp
They are actually serving a very limited menu which should help with time. Unfortunately the wait staff is non existent. There was one lady who could not have been ruder to my grandson and me. They have a touch less menu yet she takes your order. We were ready with our order, she came to the table after sitting for 30 min. She did not bring drinks for another 15min. People were up set because she did not listen and was completely distracted by being the only person. It was not fair to the waiter but it really was not fair to the people who were trying to eat before they flew out of the MsY airport.
google avatar

Rita V.

Yelp
Worst po boy ever! Hard as brick/dry and stale bread, lax staff, bad fries, rubber shrimp... Very disappointing!!! Pass go and hit something else!
google avatar

Myron H.

Yelp
First off, the bartender Brit was exceptional! She offered a water to us while decided to dive into our carry out food. Her conversation was warm and welcomed. The taste of the food was okay but definitely was not bad. It was a better choice than the neighboring Chick Fil A though.
google avatar

Remy G.

Yelp
It is a sit-down place, and it didn't take too long for our food to arrive. Shrimp po'boy was bland but a good amount of food.

David D.

Yelp
Great job last night with our 14 top upstairs! Waiter was terrific, food was great. Love the atmosphere!
google avatar

Jay C.

Yelp
What the heck kind of New Orleans restaurant advertises BBQ shrimp and then puts actual barbecue sauce on them!? I never thought I'd be yelping in an airport, but now I see I should have before wasting my time and money on a gross sandwich here. I was looking forward to that buttery seasoned goodness that is NOLA BBQ shrimp. Wish I'd just refused the sandwich, but you know they've got you by the seat when you're eating in an airport and probably worried about time. Bread wasn't stale. Fries were completely meh. BBQ sauce... Gross. Just effing wrong...
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
Opened. But the Caesar salad sucked! $11 for a few WHOLE LEAVES OF ROMAINE uncut, 5 croutons and too much dressings. My kids said friend shrimp Pinot and gumbo was good but WAAAYYY overpriced. $17 for a 5 inch poboy. Very messy dining area. Plastic utensils.

Tony H.

Yelp
Shrimp poboy is so dry. They are ruining NOLA's reputation. $20 for a very short one and no fries.
google avatar

Beth J.

Yelp
Wine was originally served in a pint glass as they were down to 2 wine glasses. They served us wine that didn't match with what was on the menu. I had the red blend, the first glass she poured was turned. At $16 per glass, they probably need to up their game. Also, bartenders need to work together, not passing guests off to one another. Menus could use a reprint. Get it together.
google avatar

Catherine W.

Yelp
Terrible service. Completely ignored by bar tenders. Oyster po boy was soggy and had no seasoning or flavor. Very disappointing. I have been to this place in the old terminal and it was great
google avatar

Gordon M.

Yelp
Terrible. Would have given it a minus 7 but that's not offered. Save your money. Food is nasty at best.
google avatar

Brian O.

Yelp
No decaf coffee. No coffee. No Crystal. The Inn needs to step up. Good service and fine servers. BIG tasty breakfast poboy .
google avatar

Loretta D.

Yelp
We frequented the College Inn at the old airport and never had a bad experience. We were hopeful this one would at least be equivalent to that one. We were wrong! The computerized ordering system is convenient however it takes away any human interaction , greeting etc. it takes several minutes to realize this is how you order. It would be nice if the few employees that remained could acknowledge you were standing there and direct you to the new ordering system. The menu is limited compared to the previous airport location. We probably won't be back. Love the Carrollton location and we will visit there.
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
i came here because my flight got delayed 3 times and the food selection in the airport was very minimal and not exciting. i ordered the rosemary fries and they were in fact not what they were advertised as. just plain, salt and pepper fries. the margarita was okay, i just don't like patron.
google avatar

Al V.

Yelp
Terrible system for ordering and completely understaffed. The food had good flavor but of course was cold. If they could work the kinks out it might be worth coming back.
google avatar

Tyler S.

Yelp
After walking around the airport, we stopped here for an early lunch before our flight. I ordered the fried green tomato and shrimp poboy. It was a bit messy, but was quite tasty! Expect to use a lot of napkins. The service was okay. We were seated quickly and had our food out in time. It is a bit pricey for what you get.
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
Had a disappointing experience while waiting for my flight to board. No one was available to help us so we ordered from the kiosk. We waited a long time for our food and lots of people that ordered after us go our food. Despite having to wait for the food to be served, it was somehow cold right out of the kitchen. I had the breakfast PO boy, which was served on stale bread with two slices of not-melted American cheese. The scrambled eggs were actually good, though cold. The bacon was also pretty good. Had to wait extra time for cutlery and remind the server to give us our drinks. Overall a pretty poor dining experience for a place that charges a premium compared to other places to eat in the airport.
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
Terrible service, mediocre overpriced food and drink. Avoid. Not worth it. Process was confusing, staff was unhelpful. Too few options. It was very slow (which is bad in an airport).
google avatar

Rohit W.

Yelp
This review is only for the friendliness of an employee (I believe her name is Yeldy). I'm sure the food here is as subpar as everyone says in the other reviews but she was wonderful at the bar. 5 stars for an awesome individual and no rating for the food that I didn't try.

NA0795 0.

Yelp
My mistake - not looking at the yelp reviews before ordering! The wedge salad was sad (and WAY overpriced) but I was glad I didn't order anything that was supposed to be hot (since my salad sat on the counter with other items for quite a while before the waitress picked it up).

Robert C.

Yelp
Was there in September and it looks like they cleared all the bad reviews out. That's one of the issues with trusting yelp. This is one of the worst restaurants in the world. The food and the service are terrible. Don't eat here!
