The Best Food at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport | Eater New Orleans

"Ye Olde College Inn (and Dooky Chase) opened in the old airport in 2013. This expanded version, fronted by a bar, offers great breakfast offerings (green tomatoes, Louisiana shrimp and poached eggs!) along with po-boys and Southern specialties. Get the crawfish mac & cheese and know that it feeds two." - Beth D’Addono

Ye Olde College Inn is wonderful! A place that warrants repeat visits because there are too many choices that need to be tried!!! Super authentic southern/Louisiana cooking! Tons of fresh seafood options, and the sauces and desserts were crazy delicious We did our best…tried 4 different dishes plus 2 desserts and everything was mind blowing in its goodness! So so so delicious! Warning: they don’t skimp on the drinks they are well made and powerful!

A wonderful dining experience. My husband remarked his Old Fashioned was perfect. The seasonal watermelon margarita was refreshing! The fish special was delicious! The atmosphere was so welcoming!

it’s been a while since we went to ye olde college inn so decided to check it out. we were seated rather quickly and the service was good - which is an improvement from before. we started off with the onion rings which were good and nice batter but a bit small. we then got a wedge salad which was disappointing. the main course were good with good flavors and portion size including the shrimp and grits and the burger. we also got brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes as sides - the mashed potatoes were really good whilentnff egg brussel sprouts needed seasoning. overall a good experience at the restaurant

Google
We visited for dinner on 6/17/2025, and had an AMAZING experience! First point: all hail Jimmy! Absolutely incredible service - welcoming (made us feel like family), knows the menu, makes recommendations and every recommendation was on point. Cocktails, appetizers, entrées - he nailed every single one. Second point: don’t miss Taco Tuesday! We had decided we didn’t want an appetizer, but changed our minds after Jimmy described the tacos. Three full-size tacos - one shrimp, one fish, one beef - and they were SO delicious! I don’t even like seafood, but I fell in love with the fish taco. Last point: there aren’t words for the entrées. Beyond divine. One of the best dining experiences we’ve had in NOLA. We’ll be back. Often!

Stopped in here late from traveling on the road, and what a choice. Thankfully, they stay open a bit later, and the full kitchen is available as long as you arrive before they close. The waiter was excellent and took care of my party. Food was delicious even at the late hour.

Google
Food was delicious and had the best New Orleans staples. Our server Sarah was great and made our experience very enjoyable. If you are in New Orleans looking for a good spot this is it!

Google
This has been a go to place for years for our family! We have never had anything bad there ever. The bar always has good drinks as well. Something for everyone with seafood dishes, veal and steak.

Google
I just left the restaurant. I was served a cold shrimp po-boy. I ordered a shrimp po-boy with fried green tomatoes and remoulade sauce. The shrimp were served ice cold. The shrimp were suppose to be hot grilled shrimp. I received my poboy very quickly after ordering and the waiter said he was surprised that my order was made so quickly and ready to serve. I received the po- boy quickly because it was not made fresh and served cooked to order from the kitchen. Very poor quality of food and restaurant experience.

Yelp
Great restaurant. Always have a good meal. Varied menu. Go and enjoy a great time and meal. If you're up to bowling, it's Nextdoor.

Yelp
This is the first restaurant in New Orleans that I saw that offered turkey in the gumbo. I asked if there was pork in it since it was called turkey and andouille sausage, she said no although I think pork is the sausage and she was mistaken which is not good if you don't eat pork (I don't). The roux was seasoned well and the over all taste was delicious.

Yelp
I always have a wonderful experience! I sit at the bar ,and sometimes at the table ,the food is simply Magnificent! Tonight I had there Veal Cutlet with double Vegetable (fresh Spinach and Brussel spouts)and an order of their Risotto ,the best Risotto in town! If you haven't tried you really need to try it!

Yelp
Great food, drinks and service! Oysters Blue appetizer is out standing! Hard to pick a favorite entree! Cocktails never disappoint and service is always amazing.

Yelp
It's not the holidays without at least one stop at Ye Olde College Inn. Last night was perfect, loved the satsuma old fashioned special. Zippy. And we thought the po boy bread pudding was at its best. See ya in 2023.

Yelp
We went here for New Year's Eve. The special black eye peas, cabbage and pork tostada was amazing! Everything we tried was great. The waitstaff were very attentive. The atmosphere was pleasant. It's a bit off the main strip of New Orleans but it's a must try. Wish we had taken photos of the food but we were starving and just didn't think about it.

Yelp
The food is great and doesn't taste like your usual "airport food." As a New Orleanian, I would describe the seasoning as mild, but an out of town we would surely find it robust. Ive had the Bloody Mary, the crawfish mac and cheese, and the breakfast poboy from here and I make sure to come here for every flight out of MSY. Order food with at least 30 minutes to spare before your boarding time.

Yelp
Hamburger steak had way too much gravy, runny mashed potatoes and spinach was soggy. Seafood gumbo and service was good.

Yelp
Im still dreaming about the shrimp remoulade over fried green tomatoes. Oh, and the bread pudding...mmmmmmm Can't wait to go again for my birthday in less than a month! Shrimp Remoulade Fried Green Tomato

Yelp
Hosted was rude and inattentive. The waiter, Michael, was AMAZING! He was knowledgeable about their dishes and drinks as well as completely aware of our party and the bar that he was also responsible for. He filled out waters without our request, and politely attempted to up sale the entire evening; we felt no pressure at all. Also, when my cloth napkin fell to the floor he noticed it, picked it up, then brought me a fresh, clean replacement without any direction from us -superb service. He deserves a raise. The food was THE best I've had, hands down, from appetizer, to entrée and then dessert. Everyone visiting NOLA should stop here.

John V.

Yelp
The seafood gumbo was "off" and tasted like bad shrimp. I sent it back and they took it off my bill. The poboy sandwich is huge, and the bread pudding was good. The shrimp and grits were very good.

Yelp
Outstanding dinner today at Ye Olde College Inn. Atmosphere, service and food were all outstanding! Tim, our waiter, was wonderful. He explained the menu really well and made sure we didn't feel rushed. I started with a satsuma vodka cocktail (Ketel One and a splash of satsuma orange juice) - excellent! Main course was the catch of the day - puffy drum, lump crab, garden maque choux and roasted corn sauce. My wife (not a seafood lover) had the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and spinach. Everything was very fresh and expertly prepared. An outstanding meal! But there's more; don't forget the house dessert, fried bread pudding - to die for! When I'm back in NOLA, I'll definitely visit here again. It's a little ways from downtown, but don't let that stop you from going. Well worth the trip!

Yelp
Food is delicious. BUT the AC was blowing right on our food. Had to have the food warmed only to have the AC make it cold ALL OVER AGAIN. Server tried hard to accommodate us, but was a losing battle against the AC. Asked to see managerbut there was none on site. 15 minutes and still no manager. Taking our meals to go. Is a shame that birthday celebration was ruined by the lack of concern by the management. Will NOT be returning. Manager finally shows up with an attitude and claims thee staff all know us and that we always complain every time we come. Haven't been here in 2-3 years and we've NEVER complained. Abhorrent treatment by the "Manager".

Yelp
So... I've been hearing about this place for a while, and I drive past it every day as a part of my commute. It shares the parking lot with the Rock n Bowl, and looks fairly unassuming from the outside. I was completely confused when I walked in. It was a small bar with tallboy tables with tablecloths on them. There's nothing wrong with any of that, I just didn't realize that was the vibe I was walking in to. We were taken to a dining room area that looks like it could be a wedding reception hall on the weekends. There were old school booths and round tables set up, all with tablecloths, giving off a fancier vibe than I think really necessary for the venue. The cost of the menu items must pay for the linen rentals. The food was okay, nothing terribly great, but they charged like it was manna coming straight from heaven. We didn't order much, just some poorboys and sides, and by the time we were done, we could've eaten better (with twice as much food) for the same cost elsewhere. I'm not sure the draw of this place other than the proximity to the bowling alley, but it's okay. Just not great, and definitely not for the price.

Yelp
Overall it's a great food. Excellent service and amazing food. BBQ Shrimp is hands down a favorite

Yelp
A classic in town with lots of big chunks of protein. There s still a nod to local cuisine, but I go for protein.

Richard B.

Yelp
Great food, great service, classic NOLA fair sized portions & prices, therefore usually crowded. QUERY? How does a restaurant with the BEST EVER Hamburger Steak serve such a MEDIOCRE Hamburger?

Yelp
Best Lobster Dinner in N'awlins. Best service in N'awlins. Best 'tinis in N'awlins. Best neighborhood restaurant/bar in N'awlins. The safe parking area is a huge plus and much appreciated. GOOD people here! Consistently excellent!

Yelp
Burger is 5/5 Bread pudding 10/5 Ole school vibe is great! Top 5 desert ever with the bread pudding's sauce Burger is my favorite in Nola Always specials and can't go wrong with anything on the menu

Yelp
We had a great meal at Ye Olde College Inn. We started off with the bbq shrimp and the onion rings. The shrimp were scrumptious and I ended up sopping up the leftover sauce with the bread served on the side. The onion rings were served in a tower with fantastic breading. I ordered the seafood gumbo. Great roux and full of shrimp and sausage. To top it off, yes I ate a lot that night, was the oyster, havarti, and bacon po boy. Holy smokes! The oysters were very large, fresh, and fried to perfection. The bacon was in crumbles and basically pressed into the bread somehow. I dunno how they did it, but it was dynamite. Had a great server too! 5 out of 5 experience.

Yelp
Good old time New Orleans food ! Lots of locals Wait Staff are excellent ambiance is okay. Great bar

Yelp
This is my favorite spot for a roast beef poboy and onion rings. The perfect comfort foods.

Yelp
Absolutely a win. 6 of us and everyone enjoyed dinner. Brought the fried bread pudding po boy back to the hotel for dessert. Delicious topper to the night. Service, food, atmosphere, spot on. We will be back. I see why the locals like it. Woop woop!

Lexy W.

Yelp
This restaurant has the best food even for a Uber eats pick up. Gumbo dark roux is excellent. Barbecue shrimp great. Peanut butter dessert good.

Yelp
When your friend has cravings, you gotta do what you gotta do! But be proper pls. Ordered: - Vanilla Ice Cream $5 - Banana Pudding $9 Tina's Travel and Tabloid - Greeted upon arrival by handsome bartender - Hostess sat us down immediately, not a busy night - I said be proper because we got stares since we were in regular clothes in a very nice establishment. But it's okay, we were from out of town! - So we came to NOLA last time, we had the delicious banana pudding with vanilla ice cream at Acme restaurant! This time we had cravings way too late - Work with what you got! We got the ice cream (3 scoops) and banana pudding. Delicious!

Yelp
Started with a delicious seafood gumbo. Was very spicy but awesome. Then I had the fish special (Sheephead) and it was delightful. Seasoned well. Great meal.

Yelp
This is a wonderful spot in the New Orleans area. This was my first visit here and it's exactly what I look for in a quality restaurant. Let's start with the menu. There are only a couple specials for the day/week that are available. The menu is limited. Which means pretty much everything will be cooked consistently and super tasty. I went with several people and everyone's dishes were amazing. All the apps were fantastic. The entrees were equally amazing. If you have never been to this place or you're looking for a place to break in your first NO experience THIS IS THE PLACE!!

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in the world. It does deliver the goods.

Scott P.

Yelp
Really love this place. The food is always great as are the drinks. You can spend a little and get a huge portion of breaded veal chop or a lot and get one of their nightly specials that rival many of the fancier restaurants in town.
google avatar

Khai N.

Yelp
Service was great, but the food was not the same as what it used to be. We ordered several appetizers and several entrees. My favorite was the Soft Shell Crab Special. The crab was fried extra crispy and it was well seasoned. The BBQ Shrimp has a very strong unique after taste. It was my least favorite. I would come back again, and probably try something different. Oh, the dessert was the best part of the meal. You must try the sticky toffee cake.

Sanra P.

Yelp
The INN as a little girl always made minorities go through the back door to get takeout only. Once as an adult of course I wanted to see what the hype was about. I found their food to be bland.

Yelp
Our service started out fine, but our seemingly much younger waitress called our entire table sweetie or baby the ENTIRE time-- it almost seemed patronizing. The food was subpar-- I ordered the trout special that was served over pea and crawfish risotto and topped with shrimp. which all sounded appetizing, but when it came out it had a rich balsamic reduction on it that overpowered the entire dish. My friend ordered the filet-- which came out cold, she sent it back and they cooked her another steak, but this took another 20+ minutes-- by the time she got her food, we had all finished eating (the second steak was hot, but void of flavor/grill marks and had a strong gamey smell to it.) Our sweetie/baby server apologized about the wait time for the second steak and comped an order of onion rings for us-- not really what we were expecting. With all of the wonderful restaurants in the city of New Orleans, i won't be back or recommending this one to anyone.

Yelp
I have eaten at this establishment a lot as a child before Katrina. Now that it has re-established itself, I was always looking for a reason to come in and try it out. This was before all of this craziness started, so the place was pretty empty. I must say though, that the food was just as great as I remembered. The service was great and we felt very welcomed. I can not wait to come here when this is all said and done. I really want to have that old experience that I knew as a child.
google avatar

Yelp
We had reservations for 6 pm. When we came in it was 1/4 full but by the time we left it was full with a wait. This restaurant was recommended by a local who we know and it does appear this restaurant is very much liked by the locals. Service was very good, portions were decent and the portions were fair. For the appetizers were had the crawfish Mac and cheese which was probably our favorite item. We had the daily special which was a redfish with lump crabmeat. We also had the shrimp and grits. The sauce on the grits was a bit on the spicy side but very good. The only things that I think were lacking was no bread was offered at the table and no sides were added, all meals were a la carte. The flan for desert was a highlight.

Yelp
Kind of biased good friend is owner We have a regular crew every Thursday love it after work let it loose be with friends. The food, service, atmosphere and everything is fantastic. Love this place!

Sherri B.

Yelp
Although this place was a little louder than I would've liked, the food made it well worth it! I had a seafood risotto special that was heavenly and our service was great!

Yelp
This past weekend was at least the 3rd (probably 4th) time I've come here for dinner, and at least the 3rd (probably 4th) time I've really, really enjoyed the food and service. This time, I had the special which was red snapper with crab meat, along with honey glazed shrimp and a purple sweet potato and andouille "hash". It was much more than I could finish, but every single part of the meal was fantastic. (we actually took home leftovers of the potato/andouille base and made an amazing fried egg breakfast the next day) My date had the duck salad appetizer and brussels sprouts side dish as her meal, and loved them. Oh, and their seafood gumbo was delicious. On a previous trip, I had the lamb shank, and it was amazing. On at least 2 of my trips, I've been with parties of four, and both of those times, everyone at the table was impressed. That says a lot--that's a few well-served meals. Service is always good, if not great. Atmosphere is busy but comfortable. Even when it's packed, we've been able to enjoy our own conversations without raising our voices. I've also had at least one great sandwich and really good gumbo at the bar after a night at Rock-n-Bowl. Even though this new, trendier, post-Katrina "College Inn" is very different than the old, almost diner-esque original College Inn, it feels very comfortable and I look forward to more great meals there.

Yelp
"Ye Olde College Inn" a long time ago was a boxy brick building with a suspended office ceiling and gold chandeliers inside and "1/2 Loaf, Whole Loaf" sign on the side outside. My parents ate there before I was born. For some reason (probably because we moved to Metairie), they never took me there, but I went back in college on my own and was quite fond of the oyster loaf and the quirky, somewhat run down dining room with bar along one side. That's all memory now, with the original restaurant razed and the College Inn relocated to a renovated building next door. The imprimatur of owner John Blancher, the resurrector of Rock'n'Bowl, is clearly in evidence, with an updated menu, crisp service, attention to detail in decor (and thank goodness, the formerly lacking cleanliness!), and last but not least, the menu. The Oyster Loaf is still there (actually as "po-boy", but same idea), but so are many fresh and contemporary items. Thai Duck and Orzo, for example, are two things that were never on the old menu. The bar is also excellent, as one would expect from the proprietor of Rock'n'Bowl. It's full service, and they offer seasonal and special drinks. The prices have gone up accordingly, so it's not the same old cheap eats for college kids place it was during the Johnson administration, but there are plenty of other economical choices around the universities to satisfy that need. Instead, we now have another place serving modern cuisine, but flavored by the distinct personality of Mr. Blancher who I dare say is underrated as a star restaurateur in New Orleans.

Yelp
Had the shrimp po' boy. It was dry and difficult to eat. Not sure why this item is so popular.

Tim D.

Yelp
I had the "Today's Fresh Catch" with puppy drum. There was so much salt it was inedible. I ordered it for takeout, but if I had eaten in the restaurant I would have sent it back. I wish that this was a one time occurrence, but I have had similar experiences here recently with other items on the menu. Put the salt shaker down!

Yelp
We came to celebrate a reunion. Jimmy was our server and he was hilarious and helped make it a fun night.

Maddy M.

Yelp
A New Orleans classic and favorite. Great seafood and always a place you can get a good poboy. Can't say anything negative about the food or menu. Everything I've ever eaten here I really enjoy. See photos It makes for such a fun date night to eat at Ye Olde College Inn then walk over to Rock n Bowl for some bowling (or to enjoy the music). If bowling make a reservation through Rock n Bowl. Service is always great. They're bar is an awesome place to wait for a table or to catch an after work drink. My only negative comment would be the obvious storage of black garbage bags on the second level of the restaurant. There aren't any tables up there but the garbage bags make it look messy, dusty and cluttered. I suppose it might be more college paraphernalia to adorn the walls with but maybe they should invest in a storage locker or the like.

John W.

Yelp
Great food, services and ambiance was outstanding. And well decorated for the holidays.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Every dish we have tried has been good. My favorite is the Catch of the Day. It is whatever the fresh fish of that day is, with crab meat on top, covered in corn maque choux with a delicious corn paste. The flavors mix together so well! In addition, their vegetables come straight from their own vegetable garden which is outside of the restaurant, so everything is very fresh. Their drinks are also all very good. This is a restaurant you will want to visit again and again. It has been around since the 30s and has a lot of character.

K J.

Yelp
It was a girls night out ... then Rock n Bowl for Music and dance. The food and service was excellent cannot deny it. However my "special" of the day entree was $45.00 and that was ridiculous but then the restaurant tends to cater to the more upscale clientele with $$ .. I get it.... But after 2 cocktails and an entree for one person $93 with tip .. is a lot! Blew my budget.. guess I need a sugar daddy! lol
google avatar

Bob E.

Yelp
This is the place I had my first po-boy when it was in a building just feet away from the current location. My father took me to the place and I thought this is heavenly! The new location is the result of Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent levee failures and flooding. The owners had serious resolve and opened it up and re-located and opened Rock n' Bowl (a bowling lane that regularly has amazing local talent). The food - there's nothing not amazing. Of course try the po-boy sandwich, dressed. But hey if you're a sandwich person there's plenty of yum. The bar is fully stocked and the bartenders are good and as you frequent it, you'll understand it's a neighborhood place. Support the locals and enjoy and most likely you'll find the owners there with you.

Yelp
We stopped and enjoyed a wonderful dinner at this restaurant close to where were staying in New Orleans Everything was so delicious here. Our dinner was perfect from start to finish. We enjoyed the wedge salad with creamy chunky blue cheese dressing, they were kind enough to split it for us and it was plenty for two. And we each had an appetizer of fried green tomatoes with shrimp and Remoulade sauce on top of it Awesome If you do go there you really must have their fried bread pudding for dessert it is warm, soft with a sauce on it and it is to die for, delicious. Loved the ambience inside and their service was wonderful And our waitress Annette S was most friendly and helpful. This is our first time at this restaurant and the first time here in Louisiana and New Orleans and we may just go again on this vacation, because we had such a great experience.

Yelp
Just got two cheeseburgers and the mac and cheese to go and holy cow, so good. So good I haven't stopped talking about it and my friends said I should write a review. We literally left the house in the middle of a tornado warning to get these burgers, and a day later I can confirm I would drive through an actual tornado to eat this again. Hands down best non-smash burger I have had in New Orleans. Crawfish mac and cheese is also totally worth $12 10/10 would recommend. Also, the girl on the phone was so friendly and nice, looking forward to actually going in and sitting to eat!
