Went for the Yuengling party which was a great way to welcome a classic American beer to Michigan. We were very excited to see Monk's Cafe on the beer list. So many options here for everyone. The James O'Donnell Band was great too!

Google
A truly historic bar dating back to 1912. Beer is very affordable, and you can't beat the $2 Stroh's. The place maintains a laidback atmosphere at all times. Chris is an awesome bartender! They have Junkyard and Corvette pinball, worth stopping in!

Google
Really good selection and generally friendly people. Haven't found a better place around here.

Used to go here in the 1970's. Very cool vibe. We used to throw our peanut shells on the floor. Moved to another state, but now that I see their still open, I'll come back when I visit.

Google
I am happy they are actually open until 2a. Lots of rhe local bars seem to close when the bartender feels fit/convenient. For some of us who work evenings, it is nice to have a place to have a drink after work!

Jonny Victor

Google
Beer selection is great - Much wider and deeper on the European choices (Belgians/Germans) than anywhere else I've seen locally and this is primarily what keeps us coming back, but the old-style wood room and the laid back atmosphere are great too. You could say divey or hipster, but also all-inclusive. Usually good more-modern indie music playlist which is appreciated. Chris was a great bartender but I think he's unfortunately moved on, will be missed. Spacious covered patio out back is good for smokers & has some fun games (cornhole, connect4, etc). Beware - the Peanuts are addictive!

Google
We absolutely love this place. Probably the best priced, best atmosphere, best people in the park. They have darts and as of late, pinball. Outdoor patio for dogs that is heated in wintertime. And the bartenders are always the kindest. A must see!

Google
An absolute local gem. This is the kind of place you want to come to if you’re visiting and experience the true heart pf GPP. we adore the selection of beers, the free peanuts and the chill overall vibe. Love our server Chris!

Yelp
Amazing place, I have been going to the tap room for over 45 years. A true treasure. Would love for Russell M to connect with me for a book I'm working on. Thanks!

Yelp
Friendly service as we begin a limited bar crawl of Detroit's best dive bars. I'm not particularly concerned as this tourism event is with a friend who is a retired Detroit police officer so we should be fine, right? A friendly welcome here and the bartender recommended a tin of something I've never heard of before. It turned out to be pretty darned awesome. Neat friendly vibe in here and I had a good time. Yelp
Great neighborhood dive by, today was Tapsgiving- a relatively new tradition of potluck gathering to watch the Lions game the weekend before Thanksgiving. Everyone makes amazing food, and it was fantastic.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! You know it's a special spot when people come together just to sip on a few cold beers and maybe play some darts. There is nothing pretentious about this place, simplicity at its finest. They have a huge selection of beers to choose from. My friend introduced me to this place a few years ago, it's one of his favorites, and I can certainly understand why. They do not serve food but you'll always find a food truck sitting outside to accommodate your late night hunger-pangs. Every time I'm in the area, Ye Olde Tap Room is our meet up spot. I

Yelp
After smashing tiki drinks after tiki drinks after tiki drink at the bar a few blocks away from this joint. My friend said that we should hit up this bar. Why not,,, the bar we were just at seems to only have 1 speaker unit at the end of the bar. AND we, just so happen to be seated right next to it. So yes!! A change of venue is quite needed. Definitely a quieter bar,, more of a buddies get together for the night and chill type of setting. I had a pour of the Maccalan 12. I dont remember what my friend had, but I think he chose a whisky. My hubby went with a beer beer. We had a pretty nice time drinking and shooting the breeze for a moment here. The bartender was super attentive and definitely knows his liquor. The setting was pretty good as well. More on the rustic pub style which is something I quite like. Would definitely come back and have a drink here again, or maybe even try some food items. Who knows. Thank you so much for reading my review. I hope this helps with your decision making experience. Enjoy your awesome yelptastic day!!

Yelp
Couldn't get any more neighborhood dive bar than this. And there is no replicating here, this place is the OG. This place was recommended to me and described as the neighborhood joint back in the 70's and it is still that neighborhood joint today. Come on in for the draft pours, I think the happy hour goes until 8 on the weekdays... ~$3 drafts. And yes, two hearted was on draft when I was there. A local's joint, but felt welcomed when we arrived. I think the only food here is peanuts, but not positive. Will be returning.

Yelp
This is a great place with a vibe as comfy as an old favorite sweater or pair of slippers. Probably has t changed in forever, and that's a good thing! Friendly bartenders & local crowd. Regular rotating drafts (not TONS of taps, but enough for this older guy) but LOTS of different bottled beers - all at fair, relatively low prices. Resent pours in cocktails as well. If you want chi chi, move along. Friends who have lived in the Pointes all their lives love this place. We've only been here 3 years but feel just as welcomed as the more seasoned locals. We generally sit at the bar, eating peanuts & dumping shells on the floor & are never pressured to drink faster or move along. I THINK they serve regular bar food too, but I'm not sure. A GREAT spot to drink & converse.

Yelp
The Tap is hands down the best bar in the area. They always have great beers on hand, the drinks are always stiff, and the staff is great as well. I've been coming here for a few years and while the neighborhood has had some new (I guess more hip?) places built up, I still always find myself back at The Tap. They've recently expanded their patio as well. I think I heard they plan on putting some games out there when it's seasonable which would be a nice addition to their already awesome dart board.
google avatar

Jess L.

Yelp
So many beer options! I wanted an IPA and the bartender took the time to discuss options. The atmosphere is chill and conducive to talking and just hanging out. Also, priced were reasonable.

Yelp
There will come a time of reckoning when the bars in the Detroit area will be separated into Good and Evil, Light and Dark, Episode IV or Episode I. There are some places you go to get a $3 Long Island Iced tea and some $5 pot stickers during happy hour (cough cough TGI Fridays) with your mid-level manager who wants bond with you because hey everyone likes you and not him because he is basically the second coming Bill Lumburgh. Then there are places like Tap Room, a little slice of perfection and everything good about the whole world. It comes off as a dive bar, but really it's not. An amazing selection of craft beer that is priced as you would expect. No food, but there are snacks, but most importantly, it has cork dartboard with slate scoreboard. I don't think you know how hard it is to find one of these nowadays. Do a couple of shots, drink a couple of beers and throw really sharp metal tips arounds. Really without a doubt, one of the best nights I've had.

Yelp
My friend Jessica was in town and so I drove over to Grosse Pointe to meet her for a drink. We met at the Tap Room, which is probably her favorite bar, or at least on the eastside. I've only been YOTR a few times. I find it to be dirty, dark and dank. The music is too loud. I could barely see because there was barely any light. The bathroom doesn't lock or have a sink in it. I believe that this is the quintessential dive bar. However, there are many good qualities about the YOTR. The most apparent and best quality is the number of beers available. The YOTR has the selection that is only matched by the likes of Ashley's in Ann Arbor. They serve pretty much any brew, local, domestic or international, that you can think of. The prices are reasonable. And you can get peanuts in the shell and drop the shells on the floor. The bartender was very nice. This isn't really my kind of place. I think that you had to grow up in the GP to appreciate a place like this. Until the next time my friend Jessica comes home, I'll stay on my side of town.

Yelp
Full disclosure: I do not enjoy going to bars. I am allergic to cigarette smoke, don't enjoy socializing with strangers, and do not drink beer. I liked Ye Olde Tap Room. SOLID East-side bar. There is no smoking, a dartboard, and they have whiskey in addition to a wide selection of craft beers for my drinking friends with discerning taste. No food, per se, but there are peanuts, a seemingly endless supply of peanuts AND YOU GET TO THROW THE SHELLS ON THE FLOOR! What more could you want?! I'm sold. Will come again.
google avatar

Shunda B.

Yelp
Not to bad of a place... FREE PEANUTS!!! The bar has a mass selection of different types of beers and also there's old beer tips hanging up to give it that old bar feel. The bartender was very nice and also allowed me to taste some beer free -- only because I'm not really a beer drinker unless it's cheap. Pitcher are $8.00 which can server upto 4 cups of beer but unfortunately the type of beer servers in pitchers are few. This place is more the for the locals -- so if you live far, I wouldn't suggest this place unless someone else is driving. (Just a standard bar with one small TV)

Yelp
I haven't been to the Tap Room in years so we popped in last weekend. Still has a great selection, good prices and a great patio area out back that was perfect for the Covid era.

Rachel D.

Yelp
This is hands-down our favorite bar on the Eastside. Amazing happy hour prices on draft beer ($3 - pint) and free peanuts. Happy hour runs late - 8 or 9 pm I think. Draft beer choices have something for everyone. Craft beer is prominent - Bells Two-Hearted and Oberon, Kuhnhenn Fluffer or DRIPA, and more - but they have lagers (Stella and I think Labatt Blue), and they've got Guinness and recently have had Blakes Cider as well. They have a ton of bottled beer to choose from, too. And of course, a full bar. We've always felt welcomed here, even though we are the types to like to sit on our own and not chat with other regulars. Yeah, we are antisocial. There are a lot of regulars here and I love that. No food except cheese and crackers (works ok in a pinch). I suggest ordering delivery from Mama Rosa's (mmmmmm pizza). Bathrooms are always clean. Great, laidback ambience where all are welcome. Even my mom loves this place.

Yelp
Im new to the area so i thought i would give this place a try, MISTAKE! Not everything is bad, the bartender Christy was very nice and helpful, they do have an impressive beer selection, But the chairs throughout the bar were stained and filthy. There is a sour rank smell near the end of the bar, There was an old guy calling himself the owner of the bar that wouldn't stop staring at my breasts, and i was wondering if he is the owner and not just some creep, if he didn't see how gross his place is. YUCKO!
google avatar

Albert H.

Yelp
The best. Tap room has provided an insane beer selection for decades, well before "craft" "ipa" or any such trendy nonsense in beers became the fad. Drink specials weeknights can be very cheap and there is always a happy, feel good vibe going on. And free shelled peanuts you can litter on the floor. Tap Room is now and always has been a scuzzy rufuge for the anti-preppy set of Grosse-Pointe twentysomethings; a foil to the nicer, more upscale pick up oriented Excalibur next door. CAUTION- Tap Room and The Bur straddle the DMZ between GPP and Detroit- The GPP cops are ALWAYS present at night and love to shotgun drunks driving home from both establishments. When exiting, take Charlevoix INTO Detroit and zig-zag the back roads home. You have been warned.
google avatar

Maureen C.

Yelp
Very rare beers available, especially sours. The vibe is divey and awesome. The walls are covered in old labels and other cool stuff. Staff is quick and nice. Nothing but good experiences here.
google avatar

Kate T.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite bars on the East side. Ye Olde Tap Room has a nice array of beer, liquor, artisan cheese & crackers, and peanuts. Try the smoked pepper jack cheese if you're hungry. Tap Room has an extensive selection of beers--both on tap and in bottles, and I never end up getting the same thing. The atmosphere at Tap Room is slightly divey, slightly hipster, warm, friendly, and unquestionably Midwestern. Overall: I visit every time I'm in Detroit.
google avatar

Savannah M.

Yelp
Friendly neighborhood spot with a stellar crew (hi Christian!) and cool history. Always bopping killer music, too. Insane bottled beer selection and let's not forget they do serve cheese/meat boards which are pretty much irresistible once you're a few deep.

Erica R.

Yelp
This place has really gone downhill fast!! It's sad because I have been going there for years and used to really love this bar. However the past handful of times I have been there the vibe was just off and they have been out of the things that my party ordered. All the draft beers were down the last 2 times...I mean it's called the Tap Room and they don't have tap beer? Last time my friend ordered a Mexican beer and was told they were out. So she chose another beer and asked for a lime....out of limes too. I received my cocktail in a dirty glass (had lipstick on it) with a slimy lemon wedge (nasty). My boyfriend decided to try something different and ordered an import beer...we later realized it was expired by almost 3 years. In the Pros department they have improved their patio and it looks nice! ....but when a rat ran in front of my feet that was the final straw for us! I don't know what happened to this place, but I am done trying.

Jehanne L.

Yelp
I used to love this place. Late night they overcharge your card/cash for extra tip money. SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS and Watch your bank statements. I only realized because I looked at my bank statement. Seems a few establishments in the park area do this.... MY Dad's Bar is notorious for this scam- dark and low lighting (they gave me change for $20.00 when I gave them 50.00$ (called them out Immediately) as is Royal Crown( took a 25.00 tip!). Shifty and sneaky- I will not go to these places. The owners should be aware of this happening!

Yelp
Super beer selection. Free nuts. Ace service. corny/cool interior. Stiff crowd. Liked my first time here. The bartender was one of the best bartenders I've had in a while (he was in a band, and wore a pro-Satan t-shirt, i think). Beer selection is insane, so many! Feels like being in north Atlanta where you can get anything imaginable cuz people are rich there. But here, the prices are actually reasonable. And there's free nuts. The bartender threw a handful of nuts on the floor to show us how to do it. So we threw some nuts on the floor too. Free nuts! The decor is simultaneously cool and corny. It's actually a fantastic set-up, and it does have a kind of UK pub feel to it, but there's something kind of Epcot Center about that. Nevertheless, the seating is great, the lighting is great, and the TV volume was muted. Had the best time killing a few pints of late afternoon brew. The crowd slowly filing in as I finished up were hair-gelled white-collar boys with flashy ties and iPods. One dude told his party of 6 that tonight's beers were on him all night long. That's how he rolls.

Yelp
BEER. So much beer. More beer than you know what to do with. If you love beer, this is your bar. Faves: 1. BEER. 2. Huge, insane, beer menu. 3. Bartenders that know their beer and make great suggestions. 4. The word "ye" in the name. 5. Two, distinct parts of the joint so you're not crowded by the bar all night. 6. Ample parking. Not-so-faves: 1. Not enough seating (benches are weird, especially if your group is small) 2. Kind of small, especially for the late night crowds. 3. Nothing else nearby. 4. Nothing but beer, so beware if you're not a fan. 5. This is where the douchey hipsters hang out. If you can handle that, fine; if not, beware. I really enjoyed Ye Olde Tap Room, especially since it reminds me of a lot of the places we frequent here in Chicago (Rocking Horse, Pour House, etc.) and it's like every hipster joint in Logan Square and Wicker Park. I can handle the crowds, but the scene isn't for everyone. However, since I believe there really isn't much else going on in Detroit, this place is definitely worth a visit (or 100).

Yelp
I've been a long time fan of Ye Olde Tap Room, even when I was a west sider. It's one of my favorite bars. My wife & I now live within a short drive from the Tap Room. We stopped in for a nightcap recently on a Saturday & the place was rocking. We grabbed a beer & sat down and that's when I noticed the three pinball machines in the back room. Now for some people that might be a plus, but Ye Olde Tap Room has been opened since 1912, and one of the attractions for me is that it can feel like you're stepping back in time when you walk in the door. I know video games can be a revenue stream for bars & restaurants, but for me it totally wrecks the vibe of this historic bar. Ditch the pinball machines!
google avatar

Michelle I.

Yelp
Gosh, I wish I lived closer so this place could become my local watering hole. I've only been here a few times, thanks to my friends and their bar crawl brouhahas. Most recently, the Ye Olde Tap Room was the first stop on our Devil's night/Halloween bar crawl (costume required, thank you very much). I've never experienced that weird exclusion vibe some mention, but then again, I have always visited within a large group of people. The things I really like about this place... Ummm, hello? Beer. They do not fuck around with their beer selection here. Its extensive and well-picked, making it extremely hard on me to choose something to drink. The selection is daunting. Last time I was there, I stood there in my bloody Halloween costume glory, just staring at the boards, trying to decide on which beer to start off with. Decisions, Decisions. I chose a Celis raspberry and I hoped for no remorse. Nope, none at all, as I loved it. Lesson learned: do not doubt the beer selection here. I also love the atmosphere. Some may not enjoy the dark, the dirt and dankness of this place. What's not cool for one may be super cool for another. I personally love divey bars; the grit, the lived-in feel that they offer, so I totally love the surroundings that this place offers. And since the smoking ban, you can actually breathe in here. I also love the little patio in the back with picnic tables...the perfect place to enjoy a brew, that is if the weather cooperates. Can't wait for my next visit here....I may not visit often, but I will visit again!

Yelp
What I love about this bar, is the ambience...very cool looking building outside, and inside. A little dark, and staying true to it's speakeasy roots. You can't beat the beer selection, that's a given. What I don't love, is the lack of friendliness I found there. It seems like the Tap Room is the unofficial meeting place for the "Hip, 20-something, Grosse Pointers" club. At the time, I WAS a 20-something Grosse Pointe Park resident...but had only recently moved there, and the others seemed to spot that I wasn't a native. Literally, this was a conversation I had once there: "So do you live in Grosse Pointe?" "Yeah, a few blocks from here." "Oh cool, so you went to North?" "No, I actually went to high school in St. Clair Shores." "Oh, cool. Well hey I'm gonna get back to my friends...." Juvenille. I'll often venture to bars solo, and, being a social girl, rarely have problems making conversation with new folks (or very least, the bartenders). But I never felt any kind of friendliness here. Maybe this is just me, because I know about 20 people who love this joint. I dunno. It's a cool little spot and the beers are great but the undercurrent of pretention just kills it for me.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
I love the fact that you can get Valfrais Herb Cheese and crackers here almost as much as I love the beer selection. I used to come here much more often, to watch the Gypsy Strings (since morphed into Gino Fanelli's Red Hot Sugar Daddies), eat cheese, play darts, and feel at ease. Love that they serve Dragonmead's Final Absolution, among a laundry list of other delicious beers. I love the dirt & the darkness. The Prohibition parties are the stuff of legend- if you can make it out, come early, seating is very limited.

Brandon G.

Yelp
Great staff and world class atmosphere. Prices are good and chill vibe. Wish I could go more.
google avatar

Katie H.

Yelp
Tap Room is a fun bar, but my god Detroit - put down the cigarette! This place gets so friggin smokey it makes me sick.
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
I'm not a beer connoisseur but when a friend of mine who is comes in to town the Tap Room is the place to be. I don't know if they still do it but the $1.50 pints of Labatt Blue on Thursdays were more my style. Which reminds me of a good story. One Thursday a long time ago I was drinking a few cheap pints and playing darts on the real dart board in the back and having a good old time. Around 12:30 or 1 when I went to the bar for another pint I realized that it was in fact Thursday night and that for the past few hours I was under the impression that it was Friday. Damn....I have to be at work in like 5 hours!!!!!! Stupid fake Friday night. Oh, ya. I also me my wife there for out first "date". So, ya. Good place.

Yelp
Absolutely check out Tap Room if you're in the area. The only other place that has as large of a selection of domestic and imported brews in the state is the Berkley Front. The brews are sectioned into their country of origin; there must be 30 countries on the list! I'm most excited that they stock Delerium. There's few places that sell it, and it is definitely one of my favorite beers. But that's not all Tap Room does. It's also a music venue. I've seen a lot of great local bands/artists here; I know Tone & Niche have played here a lot, as has the Gypsy Strings, the Salt Miners... just to name a few. Cover is cheap. It really is a great place to see a show! One thing I would say is get there early. Tap Room isn't huge, and showing up late may mean you'll be standing for the rest of the night due to the limited seating. It's unfortunate, but that's just the way it goes sometimes. Even if you do have to stand, it's a great place to try exotic beers and to hear some of Detroit's finest musicians for a price that won't break the bank.
google avatar

Evan G.

Yelp
Favorite beer spot in all of the Eastside. Great amount of bottled beers from all over the world and a great selection of Michigan beers as well! Outside smoking area, plenty of seating and a dart board. They normally have a good deal on either a shot of whiskey or a PBR. They also have had free hot dog nights too which is fantastic. Free shelled peanuts year round. I also like that this place isn't really a "sports bar". They have a TV and yeah it plays sports but it's not over stimulating like some bars.
google avatar

Erica M.

Yelp
Reasons I love the Tap Room: 1. More beers on their menu than you can shake a stick at 2. Their mixed drinks come in pint glasses 3. Communal bench seating 4. Real darts 5. Full of history and character If you're looking for a cool place to grab and drink and relax with friends, this is a great spot. The parking situation is a little scary, so just be aware of your surroundings when coming and going.
google avatar

J T. R.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite beer bar in Metro Detroit. Haven't seen this kind of selection - or ambience - since moving here two years ago. My only regret is not coming here sooner. Doesn't hurt that it's maybe five minutes from my house.
google avatar

Maggie M.

Yelp
The best beer and the best tunes. I think the history of this joint is what really adds to the place. It used to be a speak easy during prohibition, and was a brothel at one point. Its a brick building with cement floor Every year on the anniversary of the repeal of prohibition, they have a huge party costumes and all.
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
Another one of my faves when I'm home! Excellent beer selection, great atmosphere and definitely try to go on a night with live music! Totally worth it (there is a cover charge)!

Cali K.

Yelp
This establishment is confounding. The first thing I noticed is an overwhelming stench of raw sewage. It completely permeates the air. Next up the bartenders: I swear they seem so annoyed by you stepping foot in their establishment. One night while trying to place an order I could hear the bartender making racist statements then she proceeded to sing ( horribly ) instead of helping. My husband is part "African american" (black) I found this very offensive. The beer list was nice, hence the one star. The wheat beer I had though tasted skunked. My friends beer on tap had black grime floating in it. Overall I found it an unpleasant, dirty, stuck in the "past" type of bar. Well at least the Middle Aged tattooed sleeved bartender is not there anymore STARING at my chest.... So so creepy

Richard W.

Yelp
Ordered 4 beers for a friend and I. Added a $4 tip on my credit card, which was at least 20% and $1 per beer. When my statement arrived I found they had tipped themselves $40. Weeks of calling got me nowhere. I had my bank reverse the charges. In mentioning this to friends i learned they have been doing this for years. I won't be back and recommend all should avoid this place.
google avatar

Christopher B.

Yelp
The beer selection was great, the decor was even better and the bar was exciting and filled with fun people of all ages and lifestyles. Basically this bar had all the ingredients for a fantastic time.
google avatar

Amy H.

Yelp
Great atmosphere with the most extensive beer list I have ever seen. I agree with a previous poster, the history adds to why we like to go there! As a girl, I am a big fan of the restroom...nice and clean, not your typical bar bathroom!
google avatar

Jason O.

Yelp
By far one of the best places to grab a beer. A dive bar that has a huge selection of beer from around the world. Been around for ever and it has a certain historic feel as soon as you walk in. Not much for a food menu just a few finger snacks, but makes up in drink selection. Definitely a favorite stop.
google avatar

Gordana F.

Yelp
I love love love this place. It is a local neighborhood jewel. I even got engaged here! The drink menu is spectacular and there are peanuts! The tap room has at least 50 different beers, but they will also make you whatever drink you'd like. Its not pretentious and everyone is very friendly. Its a great place to go with a group of friends any time of year. Often they have music, and in the summer, you can sit out back on the cute patio. Its the bestest.

Yelp
Hate to write a bad review to a non comercial bar, but this place sucked. First of all it smelled like a sewer in here. Plenty of beers so that was nice, but a whole dollar off for anything on draft on happy hour, not so impressive. And the darts, they shove an old bristle board in an unlit closet and call it darts, again not impressed, plus it smelled in there also. Sure it's a nice old building, but please people this place is a dump with overpriced beer.

Yelp
This is my favorite hole in the wall bar. Fantastic beer selection! They have a yummy little cheese plate that pairs beautifully with your favorite MI craft brew. I love to sit out back or play a game of darts.

Yelp
This is a very fun locals bar in the Pointes. Great selection of beers, and they have a separate area for playing darts. While I'm not a huge fan of the game, I do appreciate the charm that adds to the place. Small bar - it can get crowded.

Yelp
Awesome beer selection! Decent prices. Nice and dark. They need to turn the music up a bit. I could drink here more often for sure!

Yelp
Great selection of local beers as well as a lot of other national and international beers. There's a huge selection of on tap and bottled beers at reasonable prices. Service is pretty basic but prompt & friendly: stand at the bar, put your order in, get it a few moments later, then sit at your table. Unlimited peanuts are always free! The decor is what appears to be a collection of knickknacks from over the years (and there are a lot of years!) which lends a nice neighborhood bar atmosphere. Definitely no pretensions here and the bartenders' playlists are always great.
