Ye Ole Fashioned Ice Cream and Sandwich Cafe

I stopped by Ye Ole Fashioned on Savannah Hwy recently, and I walked out feeling pretty mixed about the whole experience. It’s one of those places that has a lot of charm and nostalgia, and you can tell it’s been a neighborhood staple for a long time. The staff was friendly in that casual, no‑rush kind of way, and they got me taken care of without any issues. I ordered a burger and fries, plus ice cream because… well, it’s Ye Ole Fashioned, you kind of have to. The food came out fairly quickly, and the portions were definitely generous. The burger itself was okay — not bad, just not something I’d go out of my way for. The patty was cooked fine, but the flavor felt a little flat, like it needed a bit more seasoning or something to make it stand out. Fries were hot but a little on the softer side. The ice cream was the highlight for me. Super creamy, big scoops, and exactly what you expect from a place that’s known for it. If I lived closer, I’d probably come back just for that. The dining area could use a little freshening up — nothing terrible, just that slightly worn‑in feel that makes you think it’s overdue for a touch‑up. Still clean enough, just not the most inviting atmosphere. Overall, it’s a solid neighborhood spot with friendly service and big portions, but the food didn’t quite hit the “wow” factor for me. I’d come back for ice cream or a quick bite, but it’s not a must‑visit.

I took my twins who are autistic and one of them got a bit overwhelmed, the staff were so amazing and kind and they explained all the flavors and allowed them to taste different flavors. They were patient with no eye rolls or masked annoyance. It was our first time there together as a family and my first time back since I was 12 years old. It made me really happy that I chose to move back home to SC and a great reminder of how wonderful Summerville was, is, and can be. It reminded me of down home community and just enjoying the small things in life.

Stopped in for ice cream because we saw they had vegan options and ended up ordering food as well. Destiny was SUPER helpful!! Very knowledgeable and friendly. She’s a 10/10.

i’ll give it 3 stars for the service because most of the time it’s pretty decent. we usually go here to get banana splits because its a pretty convenient location, but i think today is the last of that. its been pretty all over the place the past couple of times we went. We get the traditional banana split with all the topping but sometimes we get all the toppings, sometimes we get none, sometimes we get one topping but not the others, its odd. Well today we went through the drive thru, ordered one, just to come home to figure out that whatever they used for the said “vanilla” flavor, was freezer burned, stringy and just gross.

This place needs a DEEP CLEAN. Employees were avoiding eye contact while I was standing at the register waiting to make an order. Finally someone looked up, took my order that took almost a half hour for a hotdog and fries. It was so filthy in there I honestly don’t know how this place is still legally allowed to be open. Fries and food were left on the floor and countertops, everything they used to cook looked like it had never been cleaned as well as the seating area being a complete decrepit mess. The ice cream area was so filthy and it tasted sour. Lazy staff with horrible attitudes towards their own coworkers in front of customers, how professional! one poor employee looked like she was gonna cry in frustration over her coworkers. Immediately took a bite of my cold hot dog and just threw it out. Waste of money. You guys have so much potential with this place!

First time at this location, I ordered online and everything was ready when I arrived. Wife and I both had the 6 oz cheese burger. It was perfect for me but she said it was too much for her, next time she will get the 4 oz. Small loaded fries are awesome and huge. I prefer fresh cut fries but the crinkle fries were ok. Also plenty of bacon and cheese. Onion rings were also really good. It was way too much food for us to finish. Service was prompt, attention to detail and polite. We will definitely return. Atmosphere is typical burger/ ice cream joint. Lots of families enjoying a meal or treat together.

All the chairs and booths look like they were found in a dumpster. The staff treats the place like a playground for boys. They did not where hair nets or hats. Only the female associate had a hat! Def. Wont be back, & the prices are too high for the poor decor! 🤢

The food is pretty good and the portions are generous. But they want you to check out with a predetermined choice of tips free to choose. What have they done to earn a tip? Just take your order? They're getting paid to take your order. I doubt I'll return. No tips

Ye Ole has very good, customer focused employees - maybe it's best feature. I had a hankering for an egg salad sandwich, and I enjoyed the overstuffed triple decker that came out in a jiffy. I got the sense that the food components were purchased, and then assembled on-site. That's not bad, it just means that the food isn't homemade. Tasty, (at least the egg salad scratched my gustatory itch) but not scratch-made on-site. I didn't try the ice cream, and they did have plenty of flavors, but t's not made by Ye Ole, as far as I can tell. There was a steady flow of traffic, so I'm surmising that plenty of people like Ye Ole's formula of a friendly casual place with plenty of choices of food that's not bad.

Ordered their famous BLT. Ordered Xtra Bacon too. Ordered with NO MAYO. Sandwich was delivered with Mayo. Tried getting it remade or refunded to no avail electronically. It's a real easy thing to READ the tag.

I ordered a salad once I got home I saw where the salad was made all wrong. I called and a night manager said to just come back at a later time to have it remade because she had verified that it was incorrect. On today I went in to get the salad and a supervisor on shift said my name wasn't in their book. So I was denied the remake and she said because anyone can walk in and say that. Like I have a the bank statement and it wasn't my fault their night supervisor didnt write it down. Had I been Caucasian or old it would have looked more truthful huh? I'll never get a damn thing from them ever again..... We live in a place where prejudice is alive and well. God sit high and look low......

This place is a go to for our shakes. Their food is good, usually a little greasy but delicious. Their shakes come in many different flavors. The place is usually packed and you can expect some what of a wait.

Meh! This pickle is not pleased America!! Ye Old Fashioned Ice Cream and Sandwich Shop?? I gotta hand it to them, the shop lives up to its name due the the dull, drab environment and flavors consisting of ye old wooden planks! & dont get me started on ye old staff.... all in all very disappointing... consider me ye old customer! (this doesn't discredit the waffle cone I inhaled in the parking lot) (ps: ye old weenie dogs almost gave me a ye old hernia)

Great food and friendly service, the place was clean and busy. The lady that took our order was new and got the order wrong, I asked for a burger with just onions and mayo on it. When I received it it had everything on it, they took it back and brought out the burger I asked for

Ice cream always on point. The ones I've been to are all similar but not the cleanest, especially the bathrooms. The staff are pretty friendly, but man $15 for 2 ice cream cups seems a bit steep.

Everything I ordered (cheeseburger, and cheese sticks) were absolutely 100% freezer foods. I mean that's okay and everything but don't advertise as old fashioned when nothing about the establishment is home cooked.

The girl that was serving me was extremely rude and seemed like she couldn't be bothered to take my order. Not to mention two girls arguing in the back. Will not be coming back

I made an order for delivery and the chicken tenders were cooked so hard you could have played baseball with them and they didn't even try too correct the issue. Rude customer service too many young ppl

Took my 82 year old Mother Dear there for a Dagwood sandwich and I had the grilled chicken salad... Everything was delicious. One employee, Kadance, really impressed us with her professional customer service. We enjoyed the experience and are planning to go back soon!

The Ice Cream is the best in my opinion. I use too have gave a lady there named Gea that really was a great employee. All of the older employees were great. Very clean establishment

I come to Summerville a few times a month to visit family and this place is always a must!! Family friendly atmosphere, great prices, service and food is always amazing!

This is NOT the first time they messed up our order, this however is the last as we are no longer going there. The receipt clearly stated what our order was and yet they still managed to mess it up and offer a mere $3.76 back on the $12.89 sandwich. They owe me for the entire sandwich not a portion. As it was a delivery I couldn't just walk up to the counter to get a new one. This is how they treat their customers????

Would give zero stars if we could. We just moved here from California and after we purchased the ice cream we asked where is it made. The ice cream is not old fashioned, they told us it's either Hershey's or Blue Bell Ice Cream! You can get this crap at Walmart. DISGUSTING

i love this place i get cheese fries like once a week and all the staff are very personable and sweet i like way too much cheese on my fries and a different kind of cheese so im a pretty difficult order everytime and its always right and they always make sure i get exactly what i want!

Remember back to when you were a kid, a child with no cares in the world other than special occasions? What were they? Mine was after I played a baseball game or driving back from the James Island movie theatre when sometimes my or friends parents would take us to a local children wonderland. The place that brought relief to a hot and humid area with cool treats is called "Ye Old Fashioned Ice Cream". Up until this visit, I've never been in the Summerville location however the local chain does a great job ensuring the aesthetics that define it's soul are present in every locations. The quaint red arches that give way to menus, the old time brown and black furniture, the ice cream refrigeration case, the mixers, fryers, everything echoes back decades to my childhood, and I love every minute of it. Even notice the manners and curtesy the staff gives their patrons hasn't changed either, and it's oh so low country (yes I pick up on that since I've lived out of SC for more time now than I lived in it). Enough of the past pleasantries, what about the food!? You won't find some fancy herb garden laced homemade Seabrook pickles with romaine lettuce, a 19 grain yeast, infused sourdough bun, etc but what you will find is a simple yet tasty cheese burger. The hot dogs are flavorful and has that whole "take me out to the ball field" feel which is so much better than a national chain. The fries are always fresh and never soggy. Cooked to order and to perfection! Now for the star of the show, in my opinion is the "I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM!" First, I opted for the praline shake. Oh, the cream was so tasty and the caramel nuggets were chopped fine enough to fit up the straw. Sucking down the first bites I was instantly 10 again looking for my trapper keeper to keep notes on, after just watching The Goonies at the theatre with my jelly fish swatch watch telling me its time for Transformers on cable! I opted to give the shake to my mom b/c what I was truly after was the double scoop of cookies and cream on the waffle cone. WOW, the sizes have changed with the scoops. I remember my little hands and mouth barley outpacing the drips of cream coming down. Surely, I'm now.. much older and I could beat the drip. Nope, somehow Ye Old Fashioned knew I got older and gave me huge scoops! The flavor after all these years was still perfect and huge cookies in there were an absolute treat. Now I'm not sure which is more prevalent in my mind, the memories of a great restaurant from bygone years or a simple place with offers great food without pretention. Regardless I'm making the suggestion, make some new memories. Take a date there and share a shake, take your kids there and build up lasting smiles, or just go because you need an itch scratched. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Very disappointed. I ordered two scoops of banana pudding ice cream and found multiple hairs in the ice cream. There seems to be a lot of younger people on staff and there is a need for some supervision to make sure things are being kept to code. Please make some changes.

Stopped at the drive through for two single cones. No prices on the menu board. A girl waited on us like it was the last place she wanted to be. Had no idea what was in Michigan Pothole ice cream when asked. Was served two scrawny ice creams in stale and hard to chew sugar cones after paying 13.81 for those two cones. Won't be going back there again.

I have now been to at least 4 different Ye Ole Fashioned Ice Cream locations. My home Ye Ole is in west ashley. My boyfriend lives in Summerville, however, so I've been to this one now and the one on N Main St. Every time I go to Ye Ole, I have a good experience. Walking into this location, I noticed it looked like the menu got beefed up a little. There were more dinner options to choose from than I remember from the other locations. I found a menu on the wall with specials for under $10. I decided to order the number 1 special. I got it with a BBQ sandwich and fries. You could also choose between a few other sandwich options. Also, they had potato salad for those of us who don't eat fries. The combo also came with a drink and a small cup of ice cream! We ordered our food at the counter. They gave us a special receipt to show to get our ice cream later. We sat down. A couple seconds later, someone is there with our drinks. A few minutes after that, they brought out our food. The service was on point. When we were done eating, we headed to the ice cream counter. They had all kinds of interesting looking flavors. I took a picture of the most intriguing, Krazy Kookiedough! It is yellow ice cream with rainbow globs of cookie dough! It looked cool, but I opted for the Michigan Pot Hole ice cream. It was chocolate on chocolate on chocolate, just how I like it. Overall, great experience. I was impressed by this location's wide menu options. It seems to have ample seating inside. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was tasty. The ice cream is a must-have! Try out Ye Ole, ye will not be disappointed.

Still looking for a place that grills their hamburgers fresh. Not warmed up already cooked hamburger patties. This was not it. I gave three stars because fries were good. I got bubble gum ice cream which I usually love. This did not taste like bubble gum. It didn't have much flavor at all. I actually just threw it out. Can't afford the calories if there's no flavor.

Grew up eating at Ye Ole and it's always a favorite! You can call ahead and pickup, they have a drive thru, or you can eat inside. Best part is they have something for everyone. When I go with family we will split a burger and chef salad which are favorites.... But if you're up for a big cheat meal, the chili dog, chili cheese fries, quesadilla, and especially the sundaes are delicious!! Never had anything bad and they are so fast!

Head of lettuce literally. Service was good don't get me wrong. Order a chef salad which came with more lettuce than toppings. Ambiance was decent.

This place can serve up tasty food that hits the spot...chili cheese fries, corn dogs, burgers, salads...but the restaurant is flithy. Like "call the health department" dirty, esp in the back tables/ booths, floor, walls. Please..for the love of Pete...close the place for 2 days and power douche it. I would recommend ordering to-go, until you see the fry area floor. No.

Cheese sticks, but Ye Ole said forget the cheese! Definitely worth $10. You would think mozzarella sticks wouldn't be that hard to make especially when it's a commonly ordered item at your business. Not really surprised tbh, as I don't expect much better from Ye Ole. I don't know why I still have hope and continue to waste my money.

So came to the Old trolley store because the service was so bad on Main street. This location is slightly better than Main street. Both locations seem to have issues with employees paying any attention to customer standing in the store. On one occasion i actually called the store and stood there on the phone and said " do you see that person there? Could you go up and ask him if he needs help?" Its gotten a little better. I think me showing up nearly every Saturday night after 11 has gotten become a common thing. One employee (when i see her again i'll catch her name) sees me and boom there's my food. I hate to say this but, both locations should really think about replacing all these employees who pay no attention to the customer. I see other people have complained and yet nothing seems to have changed. I would probably think about replacing management too if i were an owner.

Nice clean restaurant. The service was great and all orders (7) were correct and tasty. The only drawback was the sauce on the Reuben sandwich that was applied so heavy that it dissolved the bread and made eating very messy. Ask for only a little sauce. Burger meal, kids meals(3), and club were all excellent.

Used to be affordable, now prices are ridiculous. $5.49 for one small scoop of ice cream that you can buy in the store, and another $1.59 for a waffle cone on top of that?? Come one! Nah, I will buy Blue Bell at the store and make our own cones from now on.

Ye Ole is good for ice cream and comfort food. If you want to dip french fries in ice cream, this is your spot. They have a nice variety of options for food and ice cream. The service is usually pretty quick and the staff is friendly. My only issue is that the place isn't well-maintained. It always seems dirty. Otherwise, never had any issues.

Thank you to Kymani and Kymani only. She helped my mother and I while her coworkers ignored us and continued to help people who pulled up to the drive thru after we had walked in and waited to be helped. Her service was much appreciated as she was also busy but at least took a minute to help customers that were standing at the register and watching her coworkers walking around not even greeting people coming in.

the service was terrible the server Hollie would get off her phone to take orde. When we got our food it was wrong she stated we could get over it. She her hand in her trousers bef handling ice cream. forever lost our bussines over one bad employee

I ordered 2 super dog's with mustard, ketchup, chili and cold slaw. I got sauerkraut instead of cold slaw! How hard is it to read a ticket? I find it hard to believe that someone can read a ticket or maybe they can't read

We went through the drive threw and was directed to park in front of the store. We sat in front for 30 mins, and then my husband went in. He finally came out, and the fries weren't cooked enough and were mushy. They then forgot one of the hotdogs, so I had to go back in and wait another 20 mins for them to make a hotdog.... there were almost 12 employees in this building all yelling across the store about how much of a tip they should get.... we ordered 2 chili cheese dogs, 2 chicken tenders and 4 fries, and 3 scoops of ice cream..... in all my trip took over a hr. I will never come back to this location!

Obviously ye ole is known for their good and ice cream but everytime I come in service is worse and worse. None of the staff members acknowledge you when you walk in. Seems like they need to stop hiring young kids and get some adults in there (at least supervisors need to be adults) and learn them some southern hospitality. 15+ employees working and always seems like chaos in the kitchen and drive. In my opinion there needs to be a better system on the stations and who makes the orders. We waited a couple minutes at the ice cream counter and finally went up to a group of 4 employees that were standing there doing literally nothing but chatting with each other and asked for someone to get my ice cream order. We sat for a while and ate our ice cream and literally could here one of the female employees saying "I hate hearing someone say 'excuse me' cuz I just don't wanna talk". So over the youngins in the work place

The best chocolate peanut butter ice cream my husband has ever had and trust me he's quite the connoisseur.

Every time I go they mess up my order and food is not great even when it's right never coming back

One of my favorite spots to grab ice cream on a summer night. They have a ton of different choices: ice cream in the case, sundaes, banana splits, milkshakes and plenty of hot food options as well. There are typically high schoolers and foreign exchange students working here, but overall good service. The seating area can sometimes get a bit dirty, but we rarely eat there anyway.

Ye Ole Fashioned Ice Cream and Sandwich Cafe on Old Trolley Road in Summerville is a great place to go for a quality burger or sandwich or a cold after a long day. I really like the location here when you are in this area of town and are hungry. They have been consistent in their quality throughout the years and I have had a good experience every time I have come here.

So amazing! They have many different ice cream/ shake flavors to choose from and they also have great American food. If you are in more of a hurry I would go inside rather than drive thru but either way it came out delicious! Give it a try.

VERY VERY GOOD!! Ye Ole and Sweetwater 123 are the only places I will order burgers from in Summerville. Heads and shoulders above 5 Guys and better than WayBack. Ye Ole also has amazing hot dogs. I recommend the foot long chili cheese dog with onions!! See you soon Ye Ole!!

Food is decent but it's a mess trying to actually obtain your food at this place. There's 50 people working behind the counter but yet no process. Everyone is climbing all over eachother. I placed a curbside order, called when I got there to tell them I was there. My pick up time was 4:02. I got there a few mins before. 4:20 rolls around and I'm still waiting there like an idiot. I go inside and the girl can't find my order and wanted to remake it. Meanwhile someone was finishing up my order . My milkshake was also like water like it had been sitting the entire time. This hasn't been the first time either. Please remove curbside from you website if you don't do or can't do curbside orders. Pretty sure this will be my last time going here.

I called and ordered their impossible burger. I didn't have high expectations because most plant based burgers are a miss. I'm happy to say their impossible burger was quite delicious. I'm glad they chose to use the impossible patty. It was not over or under cooked. They use really good, soft bread and normal condiments. The only change I would make is to Sargento cheese. This cheese is not very good. They also offer dairy free and vegan ice cream.

Why I am not featured in my 600 lb life is beyond me...thank my lucky DNA and my workout behavior, I gather. Otherwise this place would sponsor my role in that particular TV show - the frigging ice cream is THAT GOOD. I'll probably become lactose intolerant just from the amount I house during each visit. 1 dip? Flip that...go 4 dip or go home, y'all heard?

Stopped by yesterday evening for dinner and ice cream. It was pretty packed when we arrived, however, there wasn't a line to order. The cashier was super friendly. We ordered a hot dog, bacon cheeseburger, basket of fries, and a Pepsi for about $18. The food is always made to order so it's guaranteed to be fresh and hot. The downside to that is having to wait a while, especially when they are busy. Your order brought to your table so you don't have to worry about listening out for your order number/name to be called. (I hate doing that). They offer a nice selection of ice cream flavors. Individual scoops are around $4. I like how the ice cream and food counters are separate so you don't have to wait in a long line just to order ice cream. The parking lot is kind of small. There is additional parking behind the building but I'm not comfortable parking back there.

Completely awesome mask compliance! Kudos to your staff and management! When l see that l feel like you're being safe and care about your customers. I'm dying to try your cheeseburger, fries and shakes! I'm really impressed! The cheeseburger was delicious, a nice thick patty, not greasy and I am glad I didn't order a double cheeseburger because l am stuffed after the single. Fresh lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles. Crinkle cut fries! They were hot and crispy. They put salt and ketchup in the bag (without being asked)!!!!!!! I found a new favorite . Don't waste your time and money on a chain burger, this place is the real deal.

Anyone who reads my reviews knows I say it like it is . I am extremely pleased with our service today. It was delivered and a bit early. I am a Charleston native and very familiar with this restaurant. It was pleasing to see that the service , quality , and timely manner We received today was as fine as my younger yrs when they were a frequent visit after my long runs. This location is the only one besides the Mt. Pleasant one ( yrs ago) we visit. The one West Ashley we had 2 horrible needed dhec visits . Spoiled food ( reuben ) and filth inside and out. HOWEVER that was 21 years ago . I have never visited again after the two visits. I would have reported it but lost a child so no longer an issue . The only reason I mention that is to express a guest/ ( bc we can go anywhere ) never forgets and bc when one establishment does an excellent job for over 2 decades they need to stand out amongst their other locations. The Trolley rd location has always been exceptional. Thank you , Connie PS. Hopefully the other location fixed it but it was so horrible I cant bring myself to take my family or friends there.

This place can be hit or miss! Placed a order this evening for a sundae and my cup is filled with more hot fudge than ice cream!! Very disappointing and I can't go back because their closed!

Walked in last night (20 Aug '23) around 830pm and stood there for 8 minutes...not one employee helped us, served us or even acknowledged us, even after several made eye contact...we counted 13 employees working. Almost asked for a manager, but decided to just leave.
