Ann Arbor’s Best Hangover Foods | Eater Detroit

"Yee Siang’s assortment of Chinese dumplings provide all the necessary carbs, salt, and grease to fight a hangover, all in a potent little package. Those, along with a fresh pot of hot green tea, are sure to do the trick." - John Reyes

The food for the price was good. The dumplings are good but are best paired with chilly oil and soy sauce. The service was a bit slow but nothing to complain about. It’s difficult to compete with other great restaurants in the area but the food wasn’t bad.

Google
Today, we ordered Fish in Hot Chilli Broth, Stir Fried String Beans, Shrimp Fried Rice and Fish & Chives Steamed Dumplings. Every one of the dishes was tasty, flavorful and well made. The fish in hot chilli broth was my favorite - with the right mix of spice and Szechuan peppers for that tingly feeling on your tongue. The beans had a terrific smoky flavor with just the right amount of salt & garlic. The dumplings were hot and nicely steamed - even the chilli oil was flavorful! The fried rice was also very good!!

We LOVED our food ! The dumplings were amazing and really all of our dishes were divine. It was a quiet restaurant which we love with superb food. We will be back!!!

Google
Best handmade dumplings in the US! I'm so glad to have found them, noodles are good too! Homemade grass jelly drink and taro ball are great!

Google
Well, I'm a little ashamed to admit to this much gluttony, but I ate 24 dumplings here. I ate them so enthusiastically that I neglected to take pictures. They were so good and I was so full, I didn't bother with dinner. Stop by. Order 10, 18, 24, 36, or even more and I think you'll understand why I will definitely be back. I definitely recommend bringing a friend.

Google
I love this place. I have been coming here since it opened many years ago. I don't understand why this place isn't always packed. The dumplings are delicious for sure, but the entrees are also excellent. Some standout orders: -Fish and Chive dumplings -Mushroom and Cabbage dumplings -Mapo Tofu -Fish in Spicy Broth -Beef Noodle Soup

Google
Food is okay, service was really good. We really like the dumplings, pickles, chicken. The portions are very generous (enough for two).

Google
The restaurant itself is very beautiful. It has a clean appearance and very beautiful tables as well as ceiling decorations. The complimentary chili oil, vinegar, and soy sauce add flavor and spice to the dumplings. We got the lamb and the beef dumplings, and the beef ones were outstanding!! We also got the Jasmine tea which is bottomless and tasty, as well as the crispiest spring roll ever. 10/10 recommend for dates or with a friend, I wouldn’t bring a whole family to consume the whole restaurant.

Yelp
Very traditional authentic Chinese food from the Beijing region! A very nice family owned restaurant with a long of carb options like noodles and dumplings. I was super excited to eat some good homecooking. All their noodles and dumpling skins are hand rolled and fresh made. It's more doughy and chewy than store bought pre-made wrappers. The filling for the dumplings were good, we liked the pork onions a little more than the lamb cilantro cause lamb was a bit gamey but if you like the lamb flavor, it's rich. My favorite dish was the cumin lamb slices. It's unique from others I've had as it is covered with seasoning like a breading and fried. Very good. Lots of onions scallions and peppers along with it. The triple delight was amazing too. It comes with fried egpplant, potatoes and scallions. It's a bit on the oily side so you need to eat it with rice. The braised beef noodle soup was a hefty portion. Beef was tender. Soup broth was a little bland but still very tasty. Our pigs ear appetizer came out last cause our server forgot but it was very crunchy and had great mala flavor. Not spicy though. Service was very fast and friendly.

Yelp
As their name suggests, Yee Siang's best dishes are their dumplings. We got a huge order for takeout and the dumplings were the stand-out, especially their pork and dill dumplings. The pepper beef was pretty good as well. Otherwise, we were sadly a bit underwhelmed. The dishes that were meant to be spicy were just not, like the general tso's chicken and their chili oil. Their crab rangoons were fine, but there are better in the area. On the bright side, the portion sizes are pretty great for the price. It's not my favorite Chinese spot in town, but with how good the dumplings are, it's likely that we'll come back.

Yelp
We knew that our daughters had liked an Asian place along Washtenaw in Ypsilanti but we couldn't remember the name. When we saw this place we thought we had figured it out. unfortunately, we guessed wrong. We walked in and it was at least 3 minutes before we saw any sign of a human being - very odd! The decor is fine, but looks like it has gone unchanged for several decades. We decided to try a variety of things on the menu that we like at similar establishments - crab wontons, fried rice, bao buns and dumplings. Overall, they were decent, but nothing special, and generally a little bland. Pork bao buns usually have BBQ pork, but these do not. In fact, the pork seemed like it was a little undercooked. Next time I think we'll try to find the other place.
google avatar

Yelp
authentic homemade dumplings. pork wonton was more americanized. mom and pops type family restaurant, made to order at decent price.

Winston W.

Yelp
I got the pork rib soup and it tasted off. Doesn't compete with other dumpling places in the area

Yelp
Yee Siang has gone downhill in the last six months. I had lunch at Yee Siang with a friend visiting from out of town in December 2021. We had the cumin lamb, dumplings, and two pork belly dishes. All were delicious and the portions were huge. Service was friendly and any leftovers were carefully packed for us so that nothing would spill. I told my mother about Yee Siang and how we should try it because it is a challenge to find authentic Chinese food in these parts. Fast forward to July 2022. I ordered takeout from Yee Siang - dumplings and the same pork belly dishes I ordered previously. Firstly, the woman taking orders was extremely rude. Not just to me but to the several other people waiting to order to pick up their orders. This was in stark contrast to the friendly waitress in December 2021. I handed a man who came in after me a menu and opened the door for a woman who was carrying a large order. I was essentially doing her job. No assistance from the woman behind the counter even though the restaurant was not particularly busy. I was disappointed upon opening the contents of my order. No plastic ware or napkins were included. The portions have decreased significantly. The pork belly dish was tough. I recommend getting the twice-cooked pork instead. At least the slices are smaller and more tender, but there wasn't as much meat in that dish as I remembered. Yee Siang is still a decent choice in the Ypsilanti / Ann Arbor area, but not as good as it was last year. It will be a long while until I return.

Yelp
Price was good but food was mediocre, nothing to go back for. Service was great, interior was ok, nothing dirty or to be concerned about. Just an okay place for lunch

Yelp
I really liked the food here! Authentic Chinese flavor in the dishes I ordered, but there is a section of the menu meant for American Chinese food so there's something for everyone. Will return here for the cumin lamb slices!

M W.

Yelp
Lovely new owners. Interior has been totally, beautifully remodeled but they kept the delicious dumplings and authentic Chinese food. We had the wonton noodle soup which seemed a little expensive at $6.50 until the owner explained that it's quite a large bowl. She was right! Giant serving that we made 3 meals out of. Tried the pan-fried chicken, shrimp and chive dumplings--wonderful. Best Chinese food in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and excellent service! The ambiance is inviting, and the dishes are always fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend!

Andria L.

Yelp
Great dumplings! We got the pork and chive as well as the lamb and cilantro dumplings. Both were super flavorful and delicious!

Yelp
Understated, small restaurant. Authentic Chinese dumplings. Highly recommend the Beef and Dill dumplings. The smallest dumpling amount you can order is 10. It would be nice to have a smaller option. Drizzle the vinegar-soy sauce and chili oil on your dumplings. The chili oil is mild, not too spicy. One woman is typically your server. If it is busy, there can be slight delays but she hustles and is very nice. The interior is outdated but the food is great so if aesthetics don't bother you, definitely worth a try! I also recommend the scallion pancakes and Pork Buns. In the winter it tends to be cold in the restaurant so bring a sweater. Most people order ahead and pick up their order to-go. Parking is easy.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Highly recommend! The food was good! We ordered the pork and shiitake dumplings and kung pao beef. We were very happy with both! The service was great! Attentive and friendly. The inside of the restaurant is bright and welcoming. I can't say the same for the area surrounding it, but don't let it turn you away from trying this place. We'll be back for sure. There's a lot more on the menu we want to try!

Yelp
Good food if you can get it. Last night I wanted to zest up my ramen so I ordered the beef shank and pig's ear. Both are traditional northern dishes served cold. Both were tasty and well seasoned. The later is not for the faint of heart as it is also smothered in chili oil. However, it is all about the texture from the cartilage. The beef was a little salty but perfect for my broth. The server told me the menu was online. The next day I wanted to try more of their dishes, but became frustrated with my experience. There is no sit-down service, so I tried to place an order online and over the phone. Both proved unsuccessful as the online app malfunctioned, and after trying to place an order over the phone for five minutes of discussion, I gave up. The woman misunderstood everything I said and when I asked to speak to someone else, she insisted her English was proficient.

Yelp
The interior of this place needs cleaned. We only stopped here because the dim sum place was closed. We thought that they served dumplings that were close to dim sum type ones. The dumplings were bland and mushy. They were boiled instead of steamed or pan fried. We ordered won ton soup and that was ok. The fried shrimp was good and crispy. The most flavorful dish was the mushrooms and bok choi. Sorry I don't have much to say about this place. It was just not an inspiring dining experience.

Tyler W.

Yelp
The food is ok. The service, however they prepare food is horrible. The last two orders have come with liquid in the plastic carrying bag. The last time they even put the broken and leaking container in a smaller clear plastic bag. So they knew it was broken and leaking before they delivered it.

Nathan S.

Yelp
I really hate to leave a bad review because it's a family owned business and the woman who waited on us was so kind, but we had such a bad experience that I feel like I have to. We ordered 3 different things that all came out at least 10 minutes apart. The food wasn't bad. When I started eating my beef ho fun however, I found a circular sheet of plastic in the middle of my dish. It was about the size of my hand. I truly don't understand how it could have been in there by accident. The restaurant also was not clean, no one else was there, and when someone came in to pick up their (pre-ordered) takeout, they waited ~ 20 minutes.

Michael G.

Yelp
My server was sweet, but the food was really not great. The general tso chicken was totally tasteless and I barely ate any of it (such a waste of food and money), and the dumplings, while marginally better, were a chore to choke down. I guess that's why there were only two other people eating there on a Friday night.

Chris J.

Yelp
My girlfriend and myself went here because we had dumplings on vacation that were amazing. We should have ran the second we walked in. The whole family was in the lobby and that was it. I asked if they were open and the response was not welcoming to say the least. 5 out of the 13 tables were littered with the leftovers from previous guest that were long gone.she seated us at a used table with a dirty cup and debris still there very dirty.for 20 dumplings it was 23$ the worst dumpling experience I have had yet.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I used to eat at the restaurant all the time. Earlier today, we just got back from FL and decided to have our dinner at Yee Siang. As I mentioned, I used to visit there all the time before the pandemic, so I pretty much ate everything on their menu and knew what the dishes looked like. I ordered 4 entrees from their authentic Chinese menu and expected to get the same quality food as my previous visits. But no, I didn't. The taste of my ordered food was so bad. The chicken and mushroom itself had no flavor, and not to mention the broth was burned and overcooked. The soup they made looked like a stew, too salty because of its lack of broth inside. Oh, didn't I mention we waited for over 30mins for that crappy food? We called their manager and asked to replace our dishes. They didn't feel sorry at all and said:" No, our taste and food quality remain consistent over these years. If you are looking for high-quality Chinese food, don't eat at our restaurant; find somewhere else. If you don't like the taste, that's your problem. Why didn't any other customers complain to us? You should pay your bill now and leave." This is how they treat their customers and the mistakes they make. We paid $83 for this meal and tipped the waitress an additional $10 because she had nothing to do with this. Horrible experience, definitely will not go back in the future.

Yelp
I havent been back at Yee Siang since the first owners sold the business. It looks like a young family has taken over and the restaurant is now renamed Royal Kitchen. Started with the Beef noodles with less salt as requested and pork dumplings. I look forward to trying more Northern Chinese dishes. Seems like a nice family running the place.

Yelp
I used to come here a lot with my friends pre-COVID when we craved Chinese food, particularly dumplings. Overall, this place is a hit for craving satisfaction and probably my go-to Chinese restaurant in the area. It's not amazing by any means, but my favorite in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. The following are my go-to entrees that I would family style with one other friend (about $12 after tip and tax): * Garlic Green Beans - Probably the best in the area. Most of the time, it's a hit. It's crunchy, salty, and garlicky. A great mix of oil and great flavors combine. You think you're being healthy because you're eating vegetables but deep down you know it's not true because it's been deep fried to get that perfect crunch. But it tastes amazing and who cares? Lol. However, it's been a miss before, where the green beans were soggy or impossible to chew properly because it's way too old. It's not a miss too often, though. * Pork & Cabbage Dumplings - I love these! Especially when they just made it fresh. Dumpling meat is flavored really well and my personal preference is boiled dumplings (contradicts most people's preference of pan-fried) but I love that it gets it a more soupy feel. I've had a few instances where a dumpling or two would be severely undercooked (basically raw), but every time I've told the server, they'd take it off my bill and give us a new batch. As struggling college students, my friends and I did not care. We welcomed more delicious dumplings for free any time and would pray that we wouldn't get food poisoned. My friends and I usually get the "large" size (comes with 18, but they always give us 20, lol). Overall, not amazing, but solid choice for some dumpling cravings. Relatively cheap, too. I also like the house made (?) soy milk here. It's not sweet, so be prepared to dump in a few packets of sugar.

Yelp
Ordered fish lamb soup 鱼羊鲜 and double cooked pork 回锅肉。Soup was SALTY, had distinct fish smell, which made me concerned it was not fresh. Additionally the portion was SMALL for how expensive it was. The pork was also SALTY, and CABBAGE portion was MUCH GREATER THAN PORK portion. I did not order double cooked cabbage. Very dissatisfied with 1) food quality, 2) food quantity, 3) price paid. Sadly we were regular customers and now won't be.

Yelp
We have been driving by this place for a few months; wanting to give it a try. We had an errand to run nearby, so we came in for an afternoon snack. It was a great decision. We just went with an order of regular pork dumplings. Then we ordered another because they were so good. We also had some nice decaffeinated tea. Our server was so nice and walked us through the menu. We really can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Go here. The pork and chives dumplings are so good! I highly recommend getting them pan-seared. They come with a lot, and very authentic. The service is slower at busier times because of the amount of staff... but don't let that discourage you! The main server is the sweetest, and at the end of the day, I really like this place.
google avatar

Lin I.

Yelp
Sweet and sour pork slice("Guobaorou"): 5 stars. Thin pork slice coated with flour, sweet and sour taste, some are still crispy and some or not. But it may be the best at AA. Dumplings and veggies mix are just like normal Chinese family-style dishes. 4stars. Chicken stew not very good, 2 star. The chicken was not processed well, hard to chew and having a weird smell. It might be an accident, but the stability needs improvement anyway.
google avatar

Yelp
We drove a long way to get here, but it was worth the drive. It's a nice little mom and pop type Chinese restaurant with really good food. My wife loved her pig's ears (she is still beautiful to me) as well as the spicy ramen noodle soup with beef. The crab rangoon I ordered was possibly the best crab rangoon I've ever had. The jumbo pepper shrimp was delicious, with a good portion of large fresh shrimp (head on, of course). The pork, shrimp and chives dumplings were surprisingly bland, but harmless. The service was good as were the prices. Like the Terminator, I'll be back.

Yelp
Why this restaurant has such an overall score? How much does the owner pay for writing positive reviews and rating hugh scores? The food is sooo disgusting. I would rate 0 if there is. Beans and dumplings are overcooked. I may buy better dumplings from the supermarket, and boil myself. Pork is salted, which should not be used. It should be fresh meat!!! I ate a few bites and my gut felt so bad. The dishes taste and look like overnight food or waste. They are so greasy. What a waste of money! Why does this kind of place still survive during the pandemic?

Liam A.

Yelp
Ordered online, online order was confirmed and paid for. Showed up and the Restaurant was closed with a sign on the door at 545pm on a Wednesday!! 2nd time this has happened, they close randomly and take orders. No matter how good the food is this is a total killer - not risking it again, no dinner for 8 people now. Clear they may make good Dumplings but don't know how to run a Restaurant

Le L.

Yelp
The food is bad. I am not talk about it for the flavor, this is a problematic restaurant that I am calling the health department to check it out. Problem1:The dumplings, which is their specialty does not taste right, and you can tell the ingredients they use when they made the dumplings were not fresh that they put so much five spice and soy sauce to cover up but you can still tell the difference. Also the kitchen taste our dumpling and then insist saying it's good and REFUSE to do anything about it. Problem 2: the restroom is disgusting. Problem 3: the beef shank is still frozen when it was served, overcooked, super salty. Other dishes are ok, not authentic but edible. But you will be surprised how NOT FRESH they are. I would have to say it was definitely my Worst ever dining experience ever in my 30 Plus years life. I am wondering why it got so many reviews. Disappointing!

Yelp
With such high hopes but with a heavy heart, I am saddened to report that this restaurant is a NO for me. As a self-proclaimed Guru of the Fun Noodle, I was looking for decent Cantonese food in the Ann Arbor region; Yelp recommended Yee Siang Dumplings and after reviewing hundreds of positive reviews, I am beyond disappointed! My order consisted of: Beef Ho Fun and Chicken Triple Dumplings (Pan-Fried). I was super unimpressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant especially since they are takeout only right now; moreover, the service was less than pleasant. The Beef Ho Fun was completely absent of flavor; from the overcooked beef to the mushy noodles - so sad! The main pull for this restaurant was the Dumplings and they were mediocre at best, no dipping sauce was provided and had I not ordered Chili Oil, it would have been a totally Flavorless Meal. I'd advise others to promptly lower their expectations when visiting from amazingly authentic to basic.

Yelp
It was dinnertime, and I needed something new to break out of a food rut. Not interested in anything in my fridge, or in my pantry (PB&J anyone?), I decided to pull up the Yelp app and look for restaurants. When Yee Siang came up with 4.5 aggregate stars and some enticing-looking photos, I knew exactly where I wanted to eat. The restaurant is small but cozy, and satisfied-looking diners happily munched away with the help of chopsticks. I seated myself in a corner booth and waited for my server to come. Once she did, I ordered an egg roll and the dumpling soup. Sadly, they were out of the dumpling soup on my visit, so I went with the spicy beef noodle soup. A short time later, my egg roll arrived, followed quickly by the spicy beef soup. I tucked right in, enjoying the crunch of the egg roll wrapping, and the savory flavors. The spicy beef soup had some kick to it, but not so overpowering that I couldn't appreciate the subtle flavors to it as well. The noodles were soft without being mushy and added nicely to the dish. I had been searching for a "go-to" Chinese restaurant for quite some time, and with Yee Siang, I think the search just might be over!

Yelp
Worst experience.. there was a fight between the chef and the manager.. dropping pots and pans.. that was the first sign, I should have walked out.. went here for the live of dumplings.. The vegetarian food what ever we ordered was good. Cabbage and mushroom dumplings were amazing. Wish they gave some kind of sauce with it.. only thing they gave after asking was chili oil. :( Am pa tofu.. was a unique flavor... different but definitely left an after taste.. Might not go back here.. :)

Yelp
If Yee Siang were in a chorus line, it'd get Food 4; Looks 2. Situated in an odd little building I half-remember once being Siam-something-or-other, it now has a nice, cozy feel of its own. Food is very good - there's a wide variety of pan-Asian & traditional dishes. Service is good: staff is friendly. A great place whether you dine-in or take out. Give it a try!

Yelp
Props to this mom and pop shop, doing Chinese food right in Ypsi/A2! Tried this place for the first time a few weeks ago and have to say I'm impressed by the flavors, value and service. Will definitely be coming back next time. We ordered : pork and chive dumplings, a cold mung bean noodle and pickle cucumber salad, chicken sautéed w/eggplant over rice (donburi), beef chow fun (sautéed beef w/ wide rice noodles). Everything was tasty and flavors were authentic. Prices were reasonable and serving sizes generous. Having gotten there only 30 minutes before closing on a Sunday, though we ordered only 20ish minutes before closing the food came fresh and fast, the staff kindly told us to stay as long as we needed, though to be fair to them we left fairly soon afterwards.

Yelp
So...I came here with my crazy-ass siblings a few weekends ago...and we just got our Dumpling Eat'en on! We had, and I S*&T you not...I believe 8 dozen different dumplings between the 5 of us...and then we went to a donut show in Ypsy afterwards....but that's for another review. Yee Siang is truly a little nugget as we like to say (and overuse). I couldn't believe it. It sits actually, between A2 and Ypsy off of Washtenaw and so, it's very easy to get to. The place is small, but warm...fills up fast with lots locals...obviously of whom are already in the "know". We had some onion pancakes which were also pretty good...but the dumplings stole the show. Many to choose from...so, if you're a true dumpling lover...and close by...just go. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
My daughter and I had a trip here, and she absolutely loved it! The young lady who took my order forgot the pork buns she ordered, but she apologized and quickly made a batch for her. The food was fresh and delicious, and my daughter was already wanting to go back again sometime in the near future. The only things I didn't like were that there is sticky plastic tablecloths on the table, and they only gave us about 4 of these tiny paper napkins. My daughter was peeling her shrimp/prawn in her soup, so we kind of needed a bit more than that.

Yelp
This is my first visit to this establishment I did have a little difficulty finding it. The sign is not very prominent , so just be aware it is right next to los amigos Mexican restaurant on the south side of Washtenaw. Once I found it, I discovered that it was very clean inside. I had a carry out order so I can not address how the service is. I placed my order online which was very simple to do and it was ready at the time promised. I had the crab rangoon appetizer. They were crispy and there were six in an order. I have read other reviews that said there wasn't much crab inside, but I thought it was pretty much what you would expect. I also had the beef and onion dumplings, I ordered them panfried. You can see in the picture they were quite well cooked on one side and soft on the other. There was not a lot of filling in them, I thought they were OK but nothing extraordinary. I also ordered the pork belly entrée with noodles. But it also came with a side of rice. The sauce that it was in was very good, I found the park to be a little bit fatty. The noodles however, were fabulous. I thought that it was moderately priced. So I would give it another try

Yelp
Scrumptious dumplings. The pork triple delight (pork, shrimp, Chinese chive) did just that. I got them pan fried. All components were on point, from the perfect thickness of wrapper to the juicy, savory generously portioned filling which satisfied your pork and shrimp cravings in a two-in-one punch reminiscent of a high-quality dim sum house shumai. We also got vegetable fried rice, which came very densely packed in a large takeout container and had a fantastic curry flavor that put it above the large majority of fried rices that I've had in the past. The only knock against Yee Siang was the mushroom and cabbage dumpling, which tasted overpoweringly of tarragon. Just about 30 dumplings and an order of fried rice ran us around $30 and gave us three large meals worth of food. For quality and good value, this dumpling house is hard to beat.

Dan J.

Yelp
Unusual place. I walked in and you don't see anybody, the register is in the back. once I figured that out, I ordered some combo dumplings and they were very good but one thing you have to be prepared for is they only except cash!
google avatar

Dennis A.

Yelp
They tried to charge us a mandatory 12% gratuity for a pick up order. They did not inform us of this extra charge until we noticed and pointed it out after we paid. Dumplings were packed into many entree boxes. Not sure if they ran out of boxes? Food was a hit and miss, better places to eat out there.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is just one of the worst place I have ever eaten at. They offer a big menu but don't let it fool you they can not cook anything authentic especially their sichuan dishes and cold dishes. For their pork dishes they used the same cut of pork for every dish even when they need to be completely different cut and different texture. I ordered twice cooked pork and pork with sweet potato noodles and the pork used is the same. I also ordered a 梅菜扣肉 again same type pork used. When I come pick up my order I couldn't believe what I heard. The cashier mumbled why aren't you tipping ? I said this is take out order why is there expectation to tip? Then she says oh it takes effort to box up the food, by then I just don't even want to bother talking anymore and gave her 5 bucks in cash and off on my way home. Very very bad experience coming from a native Asian eater.

Yelp
We were craving something different from street noodles or Asian/ Cantonese flavors and came across this little gem on Yelp. We we very pleased with our choices: egg rolls, pork and mushroom steamed dumplings, steamed pork buns and beef lo mein. Egg rolls were hot and the 'wrapper' dough was tasty with a delightful 'chew' to it. Plum sauce was more vinegar base but tasty. Beef Lo Mein was fabulous, meat portion was ample and tender. Not an avid dumpling eater but the meat inside was tasty and it was our first time having steamed pork buns, which I thought were good: bun was tender and filling was tasty. The building is very simple, reuse of a fast food place? Doesn't look like much but decor was okay, outdated. Booths and tables which can handle parties of 6-8. Our server was very nice, attentive. Will be back for more dumplings.

Yelp
Their menu has gone through many changes since they first opened. Initially, they were focused on dumplings, but now they serve mixture of everything, seems like dumplings has taken back seat. Had reunion with old friends and met up at Yee Siang. It wasn't busy, got seated and reviewed the menu while I waited for others to join. Once everyone got there, we went with the following items: - Pork and Chives Dumplings - Pork Triple Delight Dumplings - String Beans - Yuxiang Shredded Pork - Salt & Pepper Jumbo Shrimp Everything that we ordered were ok, there were few things that I think they can do better. - String Beans, while the garlic aroma from this dish was awesome, it was too salty. - Salt & Pepper Jumbo Shrimp - their version was different then what I expected based ordering this dish from other restaurants, which was perfectly fine. The two issues I had with this dish - 1) not enough salt & pepper in the dish and 2) the shrimp was overcooked. - Yuxiang Shredded Pork - sliced pork stir fried with veggies, served over a bed of rice. Two things I would improve about this dish 1) the temperature of the dish, it came out lukewarm and 2) taste, it was on the bland side. Rice - the bowl of rice I got had hardened rice mixed in the bowl, so be careful. While the service was a lot better on this visit, the temperature inside was awful, the AC was not on and inside felt like a sauna. I'll leave the rating at 2 stars for now.

Yelp
I was really grumpy, verging on hangry, and our first choice for dim sum was full to bursting and no idea how long the wait was. We opted not to wait and instead decided to give this place a try. At first glance, it's a little terrifying. Bare wires from old neon signs hang from the ceiling, the drop ceiling is poorly painted and a horrifying color, and the decor was straight out of my grandmother's kitchen circa 1975 - pink and orange and yellow. My husband looked at me, a little unsure. We took our seats anyway. The proprietor was quick to greet us and take our drink order. She appeared to be the only person in the building. We ordered the beef and dill and lamb and cilantro dumplings pan-fried, and the steamed pork buns. HOLY COW. These were DIVINE! The seasonings were perfectly balanced, the flavors were absolutely delicious, and everything was piping hot. The meal was absolutely spectacular. The only thing wrong with this place is that it's in the wrong city. It needs to be in Toledo so I can eat here more often! We'll definitely be coming up again just for these dumplings.

Yelp
Thanks for China steamed homemade dumplings, love it with the sweet black vinegar. Very light in flavor, most light ever, even more so than making at home. Mapo tofu doesn't have pork? Original should have pork, makes the dish. Ja jurng mein, too little sauce and bland again noodles. Still a plus for Ann Arbor and Chinese choices around.

Yelp
We were supposed to eat at yotsuba but the waiter there wasn't inviting so we left the Japanese restaurant and yelped our way here... wow! So glad we walked away from the previous restaurant. Yee Siang Dumpling is like finding the needle in a haystack...Amazing find...great tasting asian food! Ordered the spicy beef noodle. Broth was spicy and the meat was well seasoned. No diet for tonight! My favorite was the pork belly with preserved vegetables (napa cabbage). The pork fat just melts in my mouth. Medical Alert! Felt like my arteries are going to be clogged. Good thing we ordered hot jasmine tea to keep the blood flowing :-) For the dumpling, we ordered steamed pork triple delight...I think it would have tasted better if the dumplings were cooked pan fried to add crunch and more flavor. I overheard a customer from the other table saying her friend lives an hour away and drove that far just to order their dumplings...for dinner, the other table had 4 orders of the dumplings (18 stickyliciousness). Forgot to ask for hot sauce and lemon on the side to make dipping sauce for them dumplings. Expected slow service because there was only one person working as server and cashier at the same time. She welcomes walk-in customers , answer phone orders, and then assemble grubhub delivery...She needs help. Did not mind waiting. But one couple left and decided to eat at a thai place across the street. No need for fancy table set-up. Very simple interior. But by far Yee Siang Dumpling is the best Chinese restaurant we've been to in Michigan. Private parking. Clean restrooms. Our total bill was $40++ we used a 10% yelp coupon upon check-in.

Yelp
I was a big fan of this restaurant for many years and I had recommended it to many of my friends. It is disheartening to see the quality of the food going down hill. What it used to be was a restaurant that servers northern Chinese delights that are hard to find (most of the restaurants are Cantonese or Sichuan). Nowadays the flavors has changed, the quality is way worse, it has became such a disappointment. Its getting to the point that it no longer deserve the 4 stars its getting anymore. I will throw out some examples. Ma Po Tofu, it is supposed to be cooked with a little bit of ground meat. That ground meat is completely missing. I am fine with that if they are trying making it a vegetarian option. But the tofu will sometimes come out over cooked and even completely burnt at one time, the whole dish was bitter tasting due to the burn, $12 goes straight to the trash can. Since the restaurant has only take out and no more dine in now, there is no way to give the kitchen feed back about how mess up it was. Yu Xiang Shredded Pork. It is as common of a northern dish as it can be, I thought you can't mess that up if you call yourself a dumpling restaurant right? Lo and behold, it was cooked with NO PORK! It was Yu Xiang Shredded green pepper and onion. And it was not even Yu Xiang flavor, let's just call it Vinegar Xiang (Xiang means flavor by the way). Lastly let's talk about the Dumpling which is their signature dish. Lamb and Cilantro, my favorite option, the only thing on the menu that's still edible, has became more and more oily. I couldn't figure out why is the case, it could just because fatty meat is cheaper that lean meat. I understand that there are labor shortages everywhere, and I totally understand if you raise the price once or twice. However, please stop cutting the qualities. All in all, I will still go buy dumplings there, its simply because I can't find another restaurant that serves the same thing. But I doubt how much more I will be coming. May be its time to just let go of the good memories of how good it was in the olden days.
