While Yellow Dog Bread Company is celebrated for its rustic breads and pastries, locals know its donuts are a standout treat on select mornings. Fresh, pillowy, and made in small batches, these donuts often feature seasonal glazes and fillings—think strawberry jam in spring or pumpkin spice in autumn. The bakery’s relaxed, sun-filled space in the Oakwood neighborhood fosters a sense of community, and Triangle Food Blog praises their commitment to local sourcing and classic techniques. Arrive early, as these donuts sell out fast, a testament to their devoted following.

I recently moved to the area so I went in for a loaf of sourdough and a blueberry cake and croissant while I was at it. Quick and easy service even when busy. They have a decent amount of ready to go items like jams, merch and such. Gotta try some next time.

Google
Cute little bakery with lots of outdoor seating. Nice place to grab a little snack and meet with a friend. The croissant was flaky and buttery. The cinnamon roll however was lacking a little bit. It was very nice and fluffy, but needed more filling. Was more of a sweet bread with icing then a cinnamon roll. Nothing too special about the coffee or chia tea latte. Just your average run of the mill type of drinks. However, I would like to go back and try their other breads. They had baguettes on the wall that looked delicious.

It was a windy Friday afternoon. We were in the mood for some coffee and a pastry. So we decided to check out the yellow dog bread company on person street. Upon entry we noticed several spots to sit outside. They had a good small selection of coffee and non coffee beverages(teas and such), they sell beans and have a great selection of pastries. We got one with chocolate in it and it was super delicious. A great spot overall, would definitely go back.

I drive past here on my way to work every day and I’ve been meaning to stop. This morning I decided it didn’t look too crowded so I’d give it a shot. A large coffee only has two espresso shots, I wasn’t asked to specify hot or iced so when it was given to me steaming hot on an already 80° morning, I just took it. Cinnamon roll totally disappointing, possibly stale?? The way they have their breads displayed in open air, wonder what they do when they get flies in there. They just let flies on all the fresh bread? Gross, will not return.

Google
I love this bakery! They have great food items of all kinds and great coffee (my favorite being the slingshot cold brew)! I especially like their focaccia bread with veggies, pecan rolls, cinnamon rolls, seasonal pop tarts and jalapeno cheddar bread. Their apple turnover warmed up is amazing!

Google
Cozy Corner Coffee Shop. Quaint interior + quite small. There are a few tables to sit + enjoy conversation or to be by oneself. The pastry window was my favorite, the way they showcase their selections helps decide what to get. On the cards it shows when baked, the product, and the price. Team members all very friendly + quick to help. See pictures with details.

Google
Tasty vegetarian and vegan focaccia bread , loved mexican spice mocha . Parking is tight since it’s Saturday but we managed to find one spot. Overall We had a nice Saturday afternoon at yellow dog bread company.

Nice. Good coffee. Good bread. Nice atmosphere. Enjoy the coffee outside.

Yelp
Finally got ourselves to this lovely little bakery on the edge of historic Oakwood. We had heard they make a signature "Pop Tart" each Saturday so made our first visit on likely their busiest day and enjoyed a Peppermint S'More flavored treat. Literally everything we tried there was delicious, from rosemary scones to peppermint cream cheese iced chocolate cake. Their baguette was the freshest and best we've had locally. They were handing out samples of their Gingerbread cake and we ended up ordering several as holiday neighbor gifts that were a big hit. They also let us donate to the Raleigh Rescue Mission Christmas meals for which they bake and donate thousands of their signature yeast rolls. It is a delightful local bakery and we can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Great coffee, great pastries. Wish they had more indoor seating for cold days but we are never disappointed with the food or service!

Yelp
Love love love this space! The coffee was delicious, the pastry case was to die for, and the sourdough had a good ole crunch. Went on a Saturday and it was super busy, so we snagged a seat outside while we gobbled up our croissants :)

Yelp
Really great pastries! Had a great cookie and def wanna come back and try the cinnamon rolls. Loud with limited seating but would absolutely come back for a coffee and pastry in the future. Probably wouldn't study here.

Yelp
Came to the YDBC on a whim. We were in the plaza having lunch and happened to walk by this amazing smelling bakery. After watching a documentary on sourdough just the night before, my fiancé and I were adamant about getting a loaf of fresh sourdough at our next opportunity. It was all too convenient to walk in and grab the last fresh loaf of the day. Yellow Dog is a great little shop with indoor and outdoor seating and an awesome selection of freshly baked breads and goods. We also grabbed two cookies to try as well. The staff was very friendly and put everything together super quickly. Even sliced the bread for us. We ate the bread daily through the following week and it was still good. One of my favorite souvenirs to bring home... fresh bread! If you're in the area and hankering for a fresh loaf... 10/10 recommend a stop in to YDBC!

Yelp
Always has the best pastries and rotating latte flavors! Must try the hot cheddar biscuits Saturday mornings!

Yelp
Great baked goods. Really love the scones. . And the bread. And the cookies. And. Well everything they bake

Yelp
Great spot for baked goods & coffee drinks! We got the coconut earl gray scone, cheddar bay biscuits, and cinnamon roll. After paying, we were given our pastries right away and waited for our drinks (Mexican chocolate mocha & toasted almond latte) to be prepared. The baked goods were all tasty, although (and this is just a personal preference) I would have liked to have them warmed up, especially that big cinnamon roll. Having that gooey guy warm would have been other level. The coconut earl gray scone was probably my favorite since it was unique and flavorful. Coffee drinks were yummy and prepared well. I'd definitely come back to try other pastries, but perhaps not eat them there, instead taking them home to nuke them in the microwave to really get the best experience.

Yelp
Sweet little bakery with so many baked good options and good coffee, bustling with people, indoor and outdoor seating, and a trendy vibe. Staff were very friendly and helpful, though they definitely didn't have time to sit and chat. At times, the line was out the door! All baked items were labeled with the day they were made; you could order lots of sweets, a few savory items, and could also order dinner rolls (I saw lots of mobile orders waiting for pickup, probably since thanksgiving is coming up). We ordered a regular cinnamon roll, a pecan cinnamon roll, and an autumn spice latte. The cinnamon rolls were good, though I thought the pecan rolls were the slightest bit dry, as the glaze on top had really hardened and hadn't gone through the roll much. Don't order that one if you have tooth problems -- the top really was kind of hard. The coffee was great -- very hot, so don't take a sip until you've let it cool off! We started with outdoor seating but had to move indoors as some bees were attracted to our cinnamon rolls. There aren't many indoor tables, so we felt lucky to get one.

Yelp
Such great bread. I love coming to yellow dog bread because I feel like I'm in a movie. They have great specially drinks, and during the holidays they have themed desserts and other goodies. The place is a bit small, but that adds to the charm. I've never had a bad experience here and the cashiers are always super helpful when I'm being a littleeee indecisive from all the amazing options.

Yelp
Cute and convenient location with good drinks and friendly people. Tried a variety of pastries (cinn roll, pecan sticky bun, cranberry scone, pound cake & baguette). The flavors were nice but everything was on the dry side for my taste. Maybe the oven temps are a bit too low and the pastries get dried out? The baguette flavor was great, but still just a tad too hard and dried out. I'm sure everything would be great dunked in a beverage though.

Yelp
Prob one of the best bakeries in Raleigh (Boulted being the other). I tried a bunch of things over a few visits: + Spiced pear Bundt cake - awesome + Coconut cheesecake - didn't care for this, tasted kind of like sunscreen smells + Pecan sticky bun - top highlight, definitely get this + Apple turnover - highlight #2 + Cold brew - meh, wouldn't get again + Cinnamon roll - great + Pumpkin apple muffin - great + Pumpkin chai pop tart - great but icing was a little sweet + Pumpkin hand pie - great + Sweet potato cheesecake - highlight #3 + Videri chocolate croissant - great + Chai spice cookie - highlight #4 + Ginger molasses cookie - great If you come on a weekend, prepare to wait in a line that stretches out the door, but it's totally worth it.

Yelp
Their marble loaf cake was to die for. Loved it. Coffee was good too! Nothing too special. But definitely better than other spots.
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped in to grab a loaf of bread and chose the cinnamon raisin. It was so tasty. I can't wait to return to try more breads and a few pastries.
google avatar

Yelp
A great spot for coffee and baked goods! We got a coconut earl grey scone, cheddar bay biscuits, and a cinnamon roll, all of which were great. We also got a Mexican chocolate mocha and toasted almond latte to drink, both well made and flavorful. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
I discovered a whole new part of Raleigh. I guess I have never driven past the Krispy Kreme on Person Street. I discovered this little gem while walking down the street. The staff was just so nice and the service was quick. Now the baked goods, Y'ALL. I took my friend a loaf of bread and she said that it was her whole lunch. I had a piece of Apple Cranberry pie. The pie was just amazing it was tart and sweet. The balance was great. The crust was perfect and it crisped up nicely when I reheated it.

Yelp
My favorite season at Yellow Dog is the fall for one primary reason: PUMPKIN MUFFINS. Dear goodness, without a doubt they're the best pumpkin flavor baked good I've ever had. Rather than being sweet it's all about fall spices, pumpkin seeds and more. I'd eat them every day if it wouldn't add to my backside. Just trust me on this. I have never bought actual bread, but should. At Thanksgiving I often get their sweet pumpkin bread loaf (noticing a pattern?) which is amazing! They make the cutest mini sugar cookies at Christmas and Easter, too, which are perfect gifts. The staff are always very friendly and never impatient as I struggle to pick which drink I want.

Yelp
Not quite sure why the line was so long or why the ratings are so high here... staff was very nice, it was super cute inside, coffee was eh and pastries were not thrilling in the least bit. Cinnamon roll was very dry, dense, with lack of gooey-ness and subpar frosting. Scones had good flavor but were not the best scones I've ever had! I am visiting from the West Coast and we have a plethora of great coffee shops/bakeries, so maybe I'm biased.. but if you're going for coffee and a cute stop, visit here! If you're going for great pastries, I would venture elsewhere.

Yelp
Great coffee and great service! Their pastries are super good too but get there early, if you arrive later in the day, they are typically sold out of pastries. Parking has also become a bit of a nightmare outside the coffee shop though but if you have a bit of patience you're in for a nice treat.

Yelp
**FAVORITE CAFE AND BAKERY IN RALEIGH** PARKING ======== Great on weekdays, not so great on weekends. COFFEE ======= CAPPUCCINO with EXTRA SHOT is the only way to go for me (thank you, Parker, for the suggestion). Smooth, not bitter, and the caffeine buzz is very much desired. RATING: 5/5 BAKED GOODS ============ My go-to is the PECAN STICKY BUN, which is somewhat like the CINNAMON ROLL, but I personally think is better. Not too sweet, and the pecans and the fluffy dough texture is ideal. Almost brioche-like. RATING: 5/5 SIDE NOTE: Their French baguette is also good, and heard their sourdough is amazing. VIBE ==== The staff is super friendly and all smiles. I make small talk with them ON occasion and have no problem meeting new friends with the waiting customers. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Yelp
Never open and their stuff costs a lot! However, what they do have is pretty good I suppose
google avatar

Courtnay B.

Yelp
Waited in a line out the door for them to be out of both Almond and Chocolate croissants at 9am on a weekday. Had the pecan coffee cake and sticky bun, both were dry and underwhelming. The best thing we had was the Vanilla Latte - 5 stars! Coffee was great.
google avatar

Janet C.

Yelp
Super crowed on a Saturday morning, not a big enough space to comfortably wait to order without disturbing people who were trying to enjoy their items. Hoping to pick up a dessert but they did not have an apple pie left. Bread and pastries are more plentiful here. Coffee was excellent and staff was super friendly despite being slammed. Parking was a nightmare and enough to deter us from coming again.
google avatar

Kelly K.

Yelp
Super cute. Nice atmosphere, temping displays, nice helpful service, and all around good menu. I just can't figure out why everything tastes the same. It's not a bad taste, but it's the same as the overall scent of the bakery. I've been here several times over the years, and I'll continue to be a patron. The loaves of bread bring me back. It's the pastries and treats that match the overall aroma of the bakery that leave me perplexed and disappointed. Maybe others have a different experience. It's worth a stop to see for yourself. The crew is dedicated to the business and work hard to make it a success.

Yelp
I'm a teacher who had an event for my class and their families, and I wanted some high quality desserts to offer them. The Yellow Dog staff I worked with were so friendly, and their cookies were such a hit with everyone alike. One woman let me know their pecan chocolate cookies reminded her of some her family had made when she was a child, and it was obviously a very sweet, thrilling recollection for her. Would 100% do it the exact same again!
google avatar

Isabella L.

Yelp
I went right when it opened and was the only one in the store (it can get busy). I got a loaf of sourdough and a fresh almond croissant. Both absolutely delicious. The croissant was soft and flaky, but be aware it is VERY sweet.
google avatar

Bruce K.

Yelp
Coffee please, but no bread. It looked SO good but I was true to my keto diet and skipped the croissants, rolls, sandwiches, cookies and cakes. I did it! Coffee was excellent, a quad espresso that definitely lit me up for the day. It is a small shop with only a few tables and not much room for loitering with laptops. Which is fine, it's just not that sort of place. [Review 12294 overall, 2078 of 2019.]

Yelp
Best whole grain bread. Ever. I go out of my way to get their bread. It is great. Please give them a try.

Yelp
wonderful baked goods. line seemed pretty steady, so i would say be prepared to wait a little bit. their scone and morning bun were delicious!

Yelp
Ugh everything was so tasty and they were so friendly and helpful there too!!! We tried the thyme lemonade( a little heavy on the thyme, would prefer more subtle flavor) and this cold tea that I can't remember the flavor but it was purplish. Soooo good. And delicious mixed with the lemonade as recommended. Also got the pecan sticky bun, which is my favorite pastry!! It was so fluffy and delicious. My partner got the cinnamon roll and loved it. We also got this flatbread thing with bacon and other stuff that was tasty.sorry, only have a pic of my bun
google avatar

Yelp
Got to try this place on our food tour and I am very glad we got to try it. I would really recommend the fresh Jam and sourdough bread. It was incredible just on its own but can't wait to try it tomorrow with some butter and having it toasted. The staff was kind and helpful and they seemed to have a pretty good rotation of seasonal coffee drinks.

Yelp
I recently moved into Yellow Dog's neighborhood and quickly moved to make this sexy pastry spot my new morning mate. Sundays and Mondays, when YDBC is closed and I can't just wake up and slide inside her storefront for a moist scones, are pure agony. All other mornings though, save for an occasional dalliance with my baked goods side piece to the southwest (sorry, I'm a slut for carb bombs!), I am tapping the hell out Yellow Dog's contactless payment terminal.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice little place on the corner of Person st. And Franklin street. The coffee was great. The almond croissant was fresh and tasty. Not to many places to sit but it was still nice to meet my friend for coffee and pastry. They do have outdoor seating. They also sell loaves of bread.
google avatar

Aitana B.

Yelp
I think Yellow Dog has super great pastries! We tried a sticky bun, cookies, teas, and one baguette. They were all delicious and and tasted like they were made by a skilled baker. The interior of Yellow Dog is super cute and small, so we waited outside until the line got shorter. Definitely worth the wait though.
google avatar

Taylor T.

Yelp
I can't sing Yellow Dog's praises enough. The staff is friendly, the pastries, bread, and any other treat I've ever tried are amazing, and I love to grab a seasonal latte when I stop in. I'm really writing this review though to tell you that you've got to order a coconut cake for the holidays. Do not let another year go by without one. I get giddy just thinking about the beauty of it sitting on an heirloom cake stand ready for Christmas Dinner. The cakes are made fresh and are so incredibly moist; I really don't know how they get all that goodness inside. I've had other "famous" coconut cakes and this beats them all. And as an added bonus, you really can't beat the price! Keep an eye on their Instagram as we near December and order one.

Yelp
Love. Love. LOVE. LOVE this place!! One of my favorite things to get is the white cheddar, rosemary scone and an iced latte. The employees are always so kind and helpful. I feel like I'm always greeted with a smile. Plus, they're always quick! I also love how cheerful it feels when you walk through the door and how it always smells like fresh bread!

LA N.

Yelp
Love their bread's & focaccia. Their pastries are delicious as well. The only negative is their Coffee cups are small for the price. Otherwise it's a Great place!

John B.

Yelp
Always friendly service , and delicious breads. What more can you ask for ? I have never been disappointed.
google avatar

Zainab F.

Yelp
The staff here are SO friendly and helpful! I've only sampled their sourdough bread so far which is fantastic. I can't wait to go back to try others! What's not obvious in the name of the business is how delicious their drinks are! A few months ago I had a seasonal raspberry rose latte (I think! It was a combo of a fruit and a flower that you wouldn't think would go together too well but they did ) and it was DELICIOUS! On Halloween Day I had their "toasty ghosty" which is a delicious hot chocolate with a ghost shaped marshmallow on it As you can see, their seasonal drinks are just complete gems! Definitely recommend for the delicious bread, treats, and drinks!

JD K.

Yelp
Service is great and the Bread is great. Baked goods are ok some are better then others but all is a bit pricey. Wish I could take my dog in when I order.

Greer B.

Yelp
Amazing scones and coffee! I'm sure everything else is wonderful too if it's as good as it looks/smells.

Taylor N.

Yelp
Obsessed with this bakery. Only downfall is they're not open Mondays!!!! (Only because I'd go every day so probably for the best.) Coffee is AMAZING. Does not have that burnt flavor that most independent coffee shops have. Matcha is my absolute fav, and cannot forget about the bread. I recently moved an hour away and I still drive down on Fridays when they have the cinnamon raisin in stock! I of course also stock up on sourdough. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and I just love this little place!
google avatar

Jan K.

Yelp
Oh, I really enjoyed the rosemary cheddar scones! They were light and fluffy on the inside with a nice crust in the outside. The only disappointment I had was the number of flies in the place.
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
So delicious!!!! A great spot near downtown. Outdoor seating, friendly service, great prices.

Maisa L.

Yelp
I began trying different coffee shops every week in Raleigh / Cary area in September 2022 and this is by far the best one!!! The muffin and cappuccino were absolutely delicious (the espresso is great) and the staff are all so kind and genuinely seem happy to be there! I truly enjoyed every bit of my experience here and will be back!
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite coffee shops in Raleigh, it's where we take anyone who comes to visit. The bakery bakes fresh baked goods daily which an array of awesome breads, homemade pop tarts, a pecan sticky bun just to name a few. They always have new seasonal food items and drinks to mix things up. Some of my favorites is the spicy mocha & the strawberry lavender latte.
google avatar

Holly K.

Yelp
Yum, yum, yum! I love a good visit to Yellow Dog Bread Company. The space is small, but with the wall to ceiling windows the space feels bigger than what it is. The bakery case has a pretty good variety, those cinnamon rolls tempt me every damn time. I have tried out the chocolate chip scone as well as the sugar cookie. Both I would get again! I loved the chunky sugar coating the sugar cookie, it was soft, buttery deliciousness. The scone was the perfect compliment to my chai latte. The chai latte is great, I'm pretty sure they make it in house. It has a bit of a kick of spice to it which I like. Parking is super easy, the lot they share is pretty big. Wifi was strong even with everyone in the place on it. The biggest down side is the number of tables, but there seemed to be a good rotation while I was there.

Wayne W.

Yelp
The most delicious selections of everything you remember and everything you will never forget!! The nicest small family business in Raleigh and beyond!! Say hello to Melinda.
google avatar

Heather J.

Yelp
Some of the best brownies ever. I really enjoyed their iced chai lattes..spicy just like I like. You can not go wrong with any of their pastries or cookies/ Great location near the bustle of downtown but just far enough away.
