Katy Asian Town’s Yelo Closes to Make Way for Phat Eatery Expansion - Eater Houston

"Yelo, the South Asian street food restaurant helmed by James Beard Award-nominated chef Alex Au-Yeung, closed on September 4 to make more room for its next-door, sister restaurant Phat Eatery’s coming expansion. Yelo offered Southeast Asian street foods like banh mi, hand-pulled noodles, and dumplings. Some of the restaurant’s favorite menu items, including its shrimp dumplings and 12-hour bone broth beef soup with five-foot-long hand-pulled noodles, will live on at Phat Eatery." - Brittany Britto Garley

The Houston Area’s Hottest New Banh Mi Shop Has Arrived in Katy - Eater Houston

"Yelo, the hotly-anticipated banh mi shop from Phat Eatery founder Alex Au-Yeung and former Sing chef Cuc Lam, has officially opened in Katy Asian Town. Born out of a collaboration between Lam and Au-Yeung, the restaurant opened quietly the first week of March next to Phat Eatery’s original Katy location. It gained a cult following for its creative banh mi toppings, like a French dip sandwich with spiced brisket and pho broth au jus, and a banh mi with Phat Eatery’s beef rendang. The menu blends Malaysian street food and Vietnamese heritage, featuring vermicelli bowls and mango-papaya-shrimp spring rolls. Drinks include Vietnamese coffee with Cafe Du Monde beans, ube and pandan lattes. Yelo operates as a grab-and-go destination with seating for 12 inside and a small patio. Hours are Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Orders can be placed via counter service or online at yelohtx.com for curbside pickup and delivery." - Brittanie Shey

A ‘Banh Mi Bistro’ Will Open Next to Katy’s Phat Eatery - Eater Houston

"After doubling the size of Malaysian street foods spot Phat Eatery’s dining room this fall, chef-owner Alex Au-Yeung is cooking up a new project next door. The chef will team up with chef and former food critic Cuc Lam on Yelo, a 'banh mi bistro.' The restaurant is slated to open late summer in Katy at 23119 Colonial Pkwy, Suite B-3, with plans to serve up breakfast, lunch, and dinner." - Adele Chapin

The food here is delicious! I joined my wife for lunch and it was great. For appetizer, we tried the Mango Papaya Shrimp spring roll. The shrimps are poached perfectly and the ingredients are wonderfully fresh. They carry a nice bite of slight heat to the dish. I ordered their Curry Chicken Banh MI with their Durian Iced Lattee. The latte was made very well with strongly brewed coffee. They mixed in a good amount of Durian in with it, which gave it a great flavor to it. My suggestion, keep stirring or you'll be punched by what settles at the bottom when you finish! Haha! But it was delicious. The Curry Chicken Banh Mi is very savory. Smothered in garlic aioli it includes deliciously fresh ingredients. It's messy but oh so tastey. My wife tried their Beef Rendang Banh Mi, which was juicy and tender with wonderfully fresh ingredients. Both come with a Curry dip to dip the sandwich in for an extra pack of flavor, too!

Google
This food is INCREDIBLE. The beef rendang banh mi made my eyes flutter and my stomach sing. The curry dip and the tender beef in the banh mi just go so well together. The chicken banh mi also had great flavor. The cheese ube milk foam yaotiao/churros were something I was hesitant about getting but they were SO delicious. So much flavor from the crispy fried bread and sweet foam and the tangy nerds. The pork and chives dumplings were also delicious. No complaints here!

I came to this place with curiosity and medium expectations but came away pleasantly surprised with the innovation of the Pho-rench dip and char siu siu mai meat balls. For me banh mi is an art form that many places misinterpret but this place has elevated traditional banh mi. We started with appetizers: the pork egg rolls that was flavorful and delicious. The mango papaya shrimp roll had generous portions of shrimp but the mango sweetness was missing. There was a slight taste of tartness that might have been the papaya. Next was the banh mi. The French loaf was light, airy and easy to bit into. The crust was a soft crunch that didn’t cut the top of your mouth like most crust do. I really liked this bread. The traditional cold cut combo was meaty and generous in potions. It could have used more Vietnamese butter and pate but overall was good. The star of the banh mi was the Pho Rench dip. The brisket was chopped, juicy and packed with pho flavor. The dip was fun and reminiscent of Philadelphia beef dip. My wife’s favorite was the char siu siu mai meatballs. It was an explosion of flavors with every bite. These last two are a must if you come here. Lastly I did try the curry chicken which was a miss for me. It just felt odd and for me didn’t belong as a banh mi. For drinks I recommend the lemon tea. It tasted like homemade lemon tea and felt like a palate cleanser.

Google
Really enjoyed the new menu, my favorite pork Banh mi didn’t disappoint -everything is made fresh, fresh flavorful and the baguette is light and airy, we tried the pork and chives dumpling which were really well balanced and tasty, also had a serving of the savory « churro » with ailoli seaweed and katsuobushi that melt in the mouth, our favorite dish today was the single noodle beef soup, the broth (last picture) was amazing rich flavorful without being overpowering and obviously takes a long time to prepare from scratch. Will come back for more as is really good and high quality. Also love the details of the restaurant and such pleasant helpful staff.

Google
We tried some Yelo takeout today.🥡 They were slammed during lunch time & only 2 guys there at first. They were hustling!🏃‍♂️They have some interesting combinations on the menu.🥭 Mango papaya shrimp spring rolls 👍 👍 The lemongrass pork vermicelli bowl was delicious. Hubs tried the phổ-rench dip bánh mì. It was surprisingly awesome. A pho tasting sandwich dipped in pho broth. Try it! 👍 To-go packaging on point 😉

Google
First of all, I have to say I have high expectation for Yelo. We ordered pho-rench dip banh mi and grilled lemongrass pork banh mi for to go. We called to order prior coming, the staffs asked to be paid up front and the total was 16.24. The first impression is that they are nicely wrapped, but the price is high. Overall, the foods are good well seasoning meat, crispy banh mi, but only decent in comparing to the price.

Matthew N.

Google
I was attracted to the one noodle and beef, but ended up having curried fish balls and beef roti bread bowl. Little pricy? Who's to say these days! But.... oh so good. I devoured it and was very happy. Fish balls felt firm and meaty. Roti was mild but flavorful. The staff was super helpful and friendly. I will deffinetly be back!

Yelp
World's best Banh Mi sandwiches, now they've closed down, it's more heartbreaking than if Lionel Richie was to sing about this place. To a blind girl. A student of his, no less. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHONNcZbwDY I've been alone with Yelo inside my mind And in my dreams I've eaten their Banh Mi a thousand times I sometimes walk by, pass outside their door Yelo, is it me you're looking for? You can see it in my eyes, you can see it in my smile Yelo's all I've ever wanted and my mouth is open wide 'Cause they know just how to bake, and they make Banh Mi to go, And I want to tell you so much, I love Yelo I long to see the sunlight in your hair And drive to Katy Asian Town, and see you there Sometimes I feel my heart will overflow Yelo, I've just got to let you know 'Cause I wonder where you eat, and I wonder now with who? Are you somewhere feeling hungry or is someone feeding you? Tell me how many to get, for I'm hungry enough for two But let me start by saying, Yelo, I love you Some of the best sandwiches we've ever had, and quite possibly the best sandwich shop in Houston. I was excited to review it, and to send everyone I know here. I eat here every single time I come to Katy, and Barbi loves it even more than I do... So it was something of a tragedy when it turned out that they were closing down. I sort of expected it, it's never gotten as much credit or business as it deserves, or as its neighbour and parent restaurant Phat Eatery does, but it's a miserable thing. We miss them desperately and we hope that they come back. We've heard that their menu is going to be added to the restaurant next door, which is so successful that it's the reason why this place has been shut down, because the restaurant expanded and swallowed up Yelo due to needing (? not sure needing is the right word) more space. I'm just hoping that sooner or later they will put these beautiful sandwiches back on the menu. We miss it so much, and the service was really wonderful, especially the amazing girl from Mexico who Barbi got along very well with, partly because Barbi is Mexican but partly because she is just so lovely inside and out. She served us the last time we came in here too. Little did we know, it would be our last visit. They will be missed, and we will be craving for them to come back - especially Barbi, who is obsessed with their sandwiches. Only this one place in Chinatown Manhattan New York comes close to the taste, and the type of product too, as they have a Curry Chicken Banh Mi up there which is, I dare say, as good or better, than the one they concocted here at the recently deceased masterpiece that we are still in mourning for. I miss them. In order to not love these sandwiches, you'd have to be a blind person, making a creepy clay statue of Lionel Richie, one which looks more like a Lion than an actual person. Yelo, is it me you're looking for?

Yelp
Yo! YELO is so me. I chose Yelo over Phat Eatery was because my party was reading the menu from their outdoor seating and they didn't have big table for my group. I asked employee what's "re-opening" mean on the banner. They closed for 2 months to reorganize. I assume that was due to chef Cuc's departure. Bummer, I was late with the news. I was here to see her. After the re-opening, they changed fusion Vietnamese food to fusion Malaysian food. Menu was pretty simple. It was my first time here and I was able to give my group a quick introduction on each section with help of an employee. When we started going in there, the restaurant was empty. Inside tables were not moveable to accommodate a group of 8. An employee tried to gather the outdoor bistro tables but can only accommodate 6. So, we all sat inside. I ordered hand pulled noodles ($13). It had really good flavors and sliced tender beef shank. Kudos to the chef. But noodles were huge and so thick. I ended up eating it with a fork. (I almost used my fingers, if people were not looking.) I also ordered Ube ice cream topped Chinese churro (yuotiao 油条 $9) to share and lemonade ($4). The drink was really delicious, but aloe chunks were too big to pass through the straw and too many lemon seeds. I wouldn't order them again though. But I'd try Vietnamese coffee next time, if it's early during the day. My friend shared fries with fish ball and shrimp pot sticker. The sauce on the fishball was too spicy for me. Curry sauce over fries was tasty. The pot sticker had a simple ingredient - just shrimp. It tasted like shrimp shumai wrapped with a thick dough. Tasty but I will pass. So, next time, I'll order bánh mi like everyone praised about.

Yelp
I was excited for this place due to the menu choices and vibes. Note I come from a childhood eating all the authentic viet Banh Mi Houston Bellaire has to offer at $3-4 buy 4 get 1 free. At $7-8 a pop, they are going for a upper scale sandwich. The interior design and materials they provide you is nice, but graded purely on taste, Yelo falls short of the premium price and is an average sandwich overall. I can't complain about a particular aspect of the sandwich, it's just average overall. Within Katy though, your choices are more limited and Yelo is an option if you live in the area. I can't help but compare Yelo to Roostar, a similarly priced "Americanized" premium banh mi shop in the Houston area. I would recommend Roostar over Yelo. I tried the Cold Cut as well as the Grilled Pork sandwiches. Would I Recommend to Try? No if you can drive out of Katy Would I Return? Maybe Ambiance- 9/10 Food Taste- 6/10 Service- 9/10 Value- 5/10

Yelp
Pretty clean establishment and very helpful employees. I really enjoyed the food. I liked everything but the pork and chives dumplings. The pork wasn't grounded very well and there I ran into white hard cartilage (maybe) and my friend ran into something metallic and hard in he dumpling bites. We didn't finish out dumplings or the order. We did have shrimp dumplings and those were bomb!!! The sandwiches were amazing and we pretty much ordered all of them! We just didn't get a picture of all of them because we ate them! The dessert was sooo good! We are interested in trying the hand pulled noodle soup in person and not Togo. I would definitely return and try other items and the same items except for the pork and chive dumplings.

Yelp
Located in Katy Asia Town. Can be a bit hard to miss the store front. I was excited to try their twist on banh mi. I got the beef rendang my bf got the grilled lemon grass pork banh mi. I have to admit that this is the most expensive banh mi I ever bought. I figured let's see if it's worth it though. I had ordered it togo and it comes in a cute box with a smiley face cutout in the middle. The sandwich is neatly packaged and labeled and came with a packaged Yelo branded tissue paper. I thought to myself, so this is why the banh mi is so expensive... Unfortunately when I arrive home the banh mi got a little soggy but nonetheless the flavor and curry dipping sauce was pretty good. They did not skimp out on the meat! For almost $9 I'm not so sure if my wallet agree.. As for the pork banh mi it was typical but for $7 def not worth it. All in all the food is not bad and they have interesting inspired banh mi but I think I'm good with my traditional cheaper banh mi. In my opinion let the food speak for itself and perhaps spend less $ on fancy boxes and branded tissue paper so you can bring the cost down to make it more affordable?

Yelp
Yum, yum, yum. The stars of the show are the Bánh mi! Beef Rendang and Curry Chicken! What a flavor combo. The pickled carrots and daikon pair perfectly with the fatty Beef Rendang and the creamy Curry Chicken. A match made in heaven. The bread is the perfect baguette too. Crispy, crunchy crust with a perfectly fluffy interior soaking is some of the juices. The dipping sauces, curries to be exact, we a perfect accompaniment to the sandwhiches. But they were so good they didn't need the sauces either. The Vietnamese coffee was good but I have to admit, Lee Sandwiches in Bellaire has the best. But that's my opinion. These coffees did go very well with the meal though. The service was great too. The servers were super nice and made sure we had a great experience. My bestie and I have definitely decided that we'd be coming back in the future. Great job Yelo!

Yelp
Check out this new place today. Everything was good , the bread is made fresh daily . I think they make their own bread too. It's not your typical sandwich, they have their own twist to it hard to explain it. You just gotta try it for your self , they also have different types of coffee and made fresh ingredients and juices. Will definitely be back again to try some other items on the menu. Price is on the high side , but it's worth every penny.

Yelp
It's been a while I put up a Yelp review so I gotta try a popular place for the first review back! Seen quite a lot of good reviews about this place so I was looking forward to trying. It is pretty ironic that what drove me to go were the drinks, but those weren't my favorites. I went on a Saturday and the parking at Katy Asia Town was busy. What annoyed me a bit were people just walking out the parking lot without a care in the world. Took me a 2nd drive around finding the place because there was no sign on the top with the name. The place is cute and modern-like. Menu was simple, but I do see a few customers just come in, look at it and walk out. Maybe nothing they like for the day or prices not too their liking? I got the grilled chicken sandwich without the pate. I liked that the chicken had a good grilled taste and the bread was crispy. Overall it was a good banh mi, although a bit pricey. But I can't say it was anything too special. Also got the shrimp spring rolls with papaya and I quite like this. It was very fresh tasting and goes well with the sauce given. Also got pandan latte and durian latte which tasted ok, but wasn't anything that I am too crazy about, especially since it was about $6 each. I think it took me a while to taste the flavors and is a little bland. One good thing is that it's not as sweet as I thought it would be. Maybe next time I will try the Vietnamese coffee! I like the cute little packs of tissue/napkins that has the Yelo name on top of it. And their plastic utentils have coverings which are nice during this Covid time. I wouldn't mind coming back but it's gotta be a treat myself once in a while meal.

Yelp
I came in for lunch and order veggie Dumplings and grill pork banh mi. The dumpling was good but the banh mi was cold . Like out the Refrigerator cold. I called and talk to someone and she was really Apologetic and told me to come back and they would make it right. I told her I wouldn't be able to come til 5pm. I can and got my warm and toasty banh mi. The way it's suppose to be Serve . Yelo would be my new banh mi spot from now on. There customer service is great. Same thing happen to me at yummy pho which is across the street and the manager told me to put it in the microwave . -angry diner

Yelp
Yelo is a unique spot that sells banh mi's. I do like their concept of being "yelo" and staffs do wear yellow crocs which I think is cool. The food however, I don't think I would end up ordering again. The banh mi I've ordered every time here are usually skimped on their meats and they are pricy! I do think that their special Vietnamese coffee are very cool and different! I would only be coming back for their drinks, but nothing else! This place is definitely worth trying if you like ube, pandan or strawberry viet coffee!

Yelp
Finally stopped by Yelo and why did I wait so long?! The Pho "rench" dip was delicious and packed with flavor even before dipping it in some of the best pho broth I've tasted. I could truly drink this stuff. I also tried the lemongrass grilled chicken bowl and it was really filling. The ube iced coffee was also a highlight especially with fresh coconut milk (not the watered down grocery store stuff but the comes in a can thick creamy goodness). Service was great even down the the packaging. I will definitely have to go more often.

Yelp
I was in Katy Asiantown and I stopped into Yelo. The workers were super nice and helpful with recommendations. I ended up ordering the Pork Banh Mi and Hand Pulled Noodle Soup. Both were pretty good! The restaurant was very clean and nice. The aesthetics were really cute. The seating is very limited and the tables were a little high with short stools. I was a little sad to see very few customers on a Friday night. I hope they pick up business but overall I had a great experience! I would recommend to friends and come back to support.

Yelp
Delicious! My husband and I went on a Sunday so they had some specials on the menu. One of the specials were the salt and pepper wings. We ordered 6 and they were huge! My husband said they were amazing. We also ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee (not the strongest I've ever had, but good) and 2 banh mi sandwiches. The burnt end banh mi was out of this world delicious. The cold cut banh mi was good and hit the spot since I had been craving cold cuts. The best part of the cold cut banh mi was the pâté. I would get it again if I was craving cold cuts, but if not, I would try a different sandwich such as the beef rendang.

Yelp
Yelo is such a cute spot in Katy Asian Town! The interior is so bright and fun. So much color! The employees are so nice and helpful! I picked the Pandan latte and I'll be honest it was a beautiful drink but I didn't taste much Pandan. I also have no idea what Pandan actually tastes like LOL so that's probably just a me thing. They had some great food that I saw others order too. The sandwiches looked amazingggggg. I just didn't have time for munchies. I'm dying to go back and try the Ube latte! The owner was so sweet too and kind. You gotta go check this place out it's so good!! I'll definitely be coming back sooner rather than later. IG @ohcayeats

Yelp
I've been to Yelo twice now and loved the meals I've had there! My first time there I got the mango-shrimp spring rolls and a Beef Rendang banh mi. I loved the ban mi; if you're looking for a more economical way to experience Phat Eatery's amazing Beef Rendang, the banh mi at Yelo is the way to go. The sandwich had so much flavor. The spring rolls tasted very fresh too! My second time there I got a crispy tofu banh mi; I wanted something light that day. It was a good, light meal, but the flavor of the Beef Rendang is something I would choose over the crispy tofu. I'll be back for more of these incredible sandwiches! Friendly service and absolutely delicious meals. Parking situation: on-site

Yelp
I came into this restaurant having no expectations because I've had pretty affordable banh mi's and drinks in Chinatown. I just wanted to see the hype and also, observing pictures, reviews and recommendations from friends. So there were so many variables going into this restaurant already. Came in on a Friday roughly around 12:30/1 and it was pretty busy (since everyone's hyped it up). I was greeted super promptly and asked if I'm ready to order (which I know the head chef was super excited to get my order in and out but I needed time to absorb the menu). I have been on a durian craze lately and I def. needed to try their durian iced coffee latte (secret menu item), their pho rench dip banh mi was calling for me (because I've had similar style of this concept in other cities, I'm sure it's unique) and a pandan iced coffee latte. Durian iced coffee latte - 3.7/5 really wanted more durian flavor, but then you have to understand the demographics and audience other surround Katy Asia town. Would I order again, yes. Pandan iced coffee latte - 2/5 it fell really short. I felt like I was drinking a watered down iced americano with some coconut milk. Maybe if I drank it as soon as I got it, it would have been fine. Pho rench dip - 2/5 I give the chef an applaud for trying her best with this banh mi, but all I got was meat, jalapeño & basil (?). It was really unfortunate and sad (see picture for reference). Overall: I know they just opened. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and return one more time in a few months to see if there's any changes. I was just not having high hopes because they are still perfecting the menu and getting the team to perfect it too.

Yelp
Great service. Pandan coffee was delicious. Banh mi dip was delicious. The ribs were chewy. So ribs were definitely my least favorite. Flavor was lacking and the ribs are chewy. I wouldn't get this again. The sandwich itself was full of flavor and the broth was a great addition too. The bread was soft and light and crispy.

Yelp
I have been so excited to try this place given all the great hype I have heard and I was so pleased that it lived up to expectations! Everything about Yelo is great - the unique menu, the friendly staff, the brightly colored inviting space, the tiny details and cutesy touches on their packaging, you name it and this place has that. I asked for help from the cashier in deciding which banh mi to order and ended up with the beef rendang banh mi, featuring the delicious rendang from Phat Eatery next door. I topped the order off with an iced pandan latte for a banh mi meal that was different than any I had ever enjoyed before. The banh mi was excellent; the beef was tender, the pickled veggies added the right amount of crunch and zing, and the accompanying dipping sauce added next-level richness. The pandan latte grew on me the more I had of it - at first, the taste was pretty strong but once I shook it up (and perhaps with the ice melting) it blended nicely and is one of my standout favorite drinks I have had in recent memory. I will certainly be back for more!

Yelp
This was a little cafe we found in Texas when we were looking for something small to eat for breakfast. Stopped by to grab the pandan iced latte and ube iced latte. The pandan tasted like green tea and the ube had a mocha taste to it. Pretty good, something different. We decided to try the char siu banh mi which was delicious. I didnt think it was going to be life changing but it was. The meatball was really tender and flavorful. It came with a dip on the side which was really good but honestly, the sandwich was good as is. Highly recommend stopping by here for a quick bite.

Yelp
I attended their soft opening and they were very crowded on Sunday! They had six people making sandwiches and rice bowls and another worker on register and answering phone calls. The store was packed with people waiting for their food and/or eating in. They had tables outside as well that were full. I called my order in (rice bowl with lemongrass pork and the beef rendeng banh mi). We arrived at the store 15 min later and were asked to wait an extra five min (I was quoted 15-20 mins and they were super busy,so no problem!) The food was delicious! I really liked my sandwich, which was stuffed with meat, and came with extra dipping sauce in case I wanted more (already plenty moist so I didn't use it. My husband got a chicken noodle bowl instead of what we ordered, but we didn't want to make the drive back and just ate that. It was still good and plentiful, just not what he wanted. They did not give us silverware or napkins, so we made do with what we had in the car (picnic with the kids...) Their food was good so I'll give it another go and hopefully things will be a bit better and stream lined by then. I would still recommend! Two food order came out to be about $18 before tip and tax.
google avatar

Andrea P.

Yelp
I ordered the lemongrass chicken. The sandwich side is a little longer than your usual banh mi. I like that they put a good amount of chicken. Everything was very flavorful. It's a little on the pricier side of banh mi, but I think they do a good job of giving quality and quantity of ingredients. They also give these little packs of napkins which I thought was cool. I was in a rush, so didn't really get to explore the menu, but I plan to try out their drink another day.
google avatar

Justin C.

Yelp
Yelo is one of my favorite spots in Katy Asia Town. The banh mi can be a little pricey compared to what you'll find in Bellaire but the quality is well worth it. I usually like to get the cold cut combo (banh mi dac biet) and Vietnamese coffee, but every other banh mi I've tried is great.
google avatar

Liz N.

Yelp
We tried the grilled pork and grilled chicken banh mis. They were too heavy for me and we weren't fans. The bread also got very soggy and didn't maintain its crispiness. The amount of butter and sauce was just too much. Overall, despite the other reviews-wasn't a fan of the banh mi.

Yelp
This place is soo good!! Such a cute spot and the service was great! The food was delicious and I would definitely go back again!

Yelp
AMAZING! Literally everything we had was the best of it I've ever had! The ube latte was strong, flavorful, and the perfect sweetness. The fresh spring rolls had the best mix of textures. The crab rangoon was stuffed to perfection and the Bahn Mi...OMG Y'ALL! The crustiness of the bread, the flavorful ingredients; so good! Their presentation and branding are awesome and the prices are fair for the quality. The shop is cute and welcoming and the service was fantastic! This is an amazing addition to Katy Asia town and I can't wait to go back and try everything on the menu! Well done!!!

Yelp
Very refreshing and multiple flavors to choose from! I got the cococane drink with sugar cane and coconut. It's fresh, it's good, and it's perfectly sweet and not overbearing. Great drink to grab after a meal to refresh and hydrate yourself. Will have to come back when I visit from Texas!

Yelp
Very cute place to try. They have a good selection of fusion banh mi's. We tried the beef rendang and the pho-rench dip banh mi. I love the dip from the pho-rench dip. I've had similar banh mi with the same concept before and this pho dip was perfectly flavored, not too salty. The brisket in this sandwich was soft, tender, and juicy. The bread was perfectly crispy. The beef rendang is great for curry lovers. And again the beef was very soft and tender. I like the balance of the pickled carrots with the rich curry beef. Sandwiches are a pretty good size, very shareable.

Yelp
Yelo is located in Katy Asiatown next to Phat Eatery. Parking is plenty, however can be tricky during peak times to find a spot. I've heard good things about the banh mi here, including quality ingredients and taste. I also saw that the prices are higher than typical banh mi places, but I decided to try it and ordered the Char Siu Xiu Mai banh mi (meatball sandwich) and Pandan iced Latte. The service was very quick and friendly. The sandwich was made to order and came out warm with a small container of dipping sauce (or broth?). I really loved the flavors and the meatballs tasted clean and non- greasy. The bread had a slight exterior crisp and the inside was soft. I can see why the prices are justified. 5/5 The pandan iced latte wasn't really my cup o' tea (or coffee in this case ). It tasted strongly of coconut milk with a hint of bitterness from the coffee. Not very sweet either. Might be good for people who really love coconut milk. Overall I had a positive experience and will most likely come back to try the other sandwiches.

Yelp
Stopped by here to check out their drinks. The staff were friendly and didn't rush us as we tried to decide which drinks we wanted to try out. We really enjoyed the Pandan Iced latte and the ube Iced latte. It was flavorful and you can taste the coffee. Next time I'll need to make a stop to try out their banh mi selections.

Yelp
I thought the lemon grass pork banhi mi was so good; probably the best one I've tried in Katy Asian town. I thought the egg roll and prawn crackers were decent, not bad but not amazing! Overall pretty good.

Yelp
This place was really busy and crowded when we arrived Saturday afternoon. They even sold out a bit after I put in my order. I really liked the traditional cold cut, they gave a nice dollop of butter and the meat was super tender and fresh. The bread was a nice crisp texture. The pickled vegetables had a bit too much seasoning, but I really enjoyed the sandwich overall and will be returning to try their other sandwiches. The tofu bowl looked really tasty! Love supporting small Viet places!!

Yelp
I think Yelo does a fun job of putting their spin on banh mi. I have been wanting to try them for the longest time and today was finally my chance. There's plenty of parking in the area, but you may not be able to get a spot right in front of the shop. The shop can be a little hard to find since their sign is only in the window. I stopped by on a Thursday afternoon. They weren't busy so I opted to dine indoors. I planned on getting the beef rendang, but the cashier informed me they were out. Instead, I decided to get the lemongrass pork with the pate on the side (not a fan of liver). Honestly, I wasn't too impressed. It was just okay. I will say there was plenty of meat, but it just wasn't that good. The bread was nice and chewy/warm. It was also smaller than banh mi I've had at other places. I may give them another shot since I've seen so many good things about the beef rendang, but we will see. Regardless, Katy Asian Town has lots of great options and is definitely worth exploring!

Yelp
I had no clue what Yelo was till I walked in. They tout themselves as Banh My Specialists :) I ordered their Spcial of the week which was Bulgogi and Pandan Iced Latte. Both were exceptionally good. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, plus the service was very nice. They are fairly new and this is my first visit.

Yelp
A new banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) restaurant is the Katy Asian town they also have refreshing drinks. But the banh mi here are your typical ones that you can get anywhere else. First you can Yelo use a different French baguette. I ordered the Special Cold-Cut Combo Banh Mi and YELO Signature and Lemon Iced Tea. The Lemon Iced Tea was really refreshing.

Yelp
We tried some Yelo takeout today. They were slammed during lunch time & only 2 guys there at first. They were hustling!‍They have some interesting combinations on the menu. Mango papaya shrimp spring rolls The lemongrass pork vermicelli bowl was delicious. Hubs tried the phổ-rench dip bánh mì. It was surprisingly awesome. A pho tasting sandwich dipped in pho broth. Try it! To-go packaging on point

Yelp
I really enjoyed my first time at Yelo during their soft opening. They officially open March 3rd. I really hope they succeed. After I ate, I sampled their Ca Phe Sua Da (Vietnamese iced coffee). So delicious. I had the vermicelli noodle bowl with crispy tofu. Mmmmm. We stopped by on a Thursday night, parking wasn't an issue but I can see how maybe it could be on weekends. I absolutely love the decor. It's so welcoming. The staff is really sweet and friendly. I'll definitely be back to try their juices and a Banh Mi, they looked so good! Pricing isn't bad, spent $11 for my bowl. Water is served with lemon. All staff were wearing masks. Big plus for me: I really like how they minimize the plastic on their utensils. Not a large area inside, I believe it was 4-5 two-seated tables plus counter seating. Outside seating is available as well. I think they plan to roll out the full coffee bar once staff is acclimated after grand opening but looks like they'll have great selection. Can't wait!

Yelp
My husband and I decided to try this new bahn mi place in Katy Asía Town during one of our date nights. I am glad we did as the food here is phenomenal. I ordered the combo bahn mi and the pandan latte while my husband got the lemongrass pork bahn mi. The flavors were delicious and unique. My pandan latte was refreshing. I would highly recommend this place if craving for good bahn mi sandwiches in Katy. My husband and I are definitely returning to try more of their food.

Yelp
We finally made it to Katy to check out Yelo and oh man, these banh mi sandwiches are INCREDIBLE. They have traditional options like lemongrass pork but also a changing menu of chef inspired options, like their pork meatballs or beef rendang. The pork egg rolls came out super hot and Chef Cuc showed the ideal way to eat these - take the lettuce, add an egg roll, and the pickled veggies, wrap it up and eat it. We devoured the banh mi's and can't wait to go back and try other options. There were a few other customers in there and when Chef Cuc checked on them, every single person was raving about the banh mi's. I'm not a big iced tea drinker but I tried their's and it was so good and lemony. They have several latte options like ube and pandan and strawberry (will have to try these next time). Loved our lunch and def recommend going out there!

Yelp
Delicious and inventive banh mi spot in the heart of Katy Asiatown. Tried their pho inspired banh mi with a dipping sauce and it was delightfully tasty. Would not hesitate to come back for more if I am ever in the area.

Yelp
We've taken food out a couple times. We really wanted to try the Beef Randang Banh Mi, but they were out both times. Bummer. The first time I was here, I ordered the Char Siu Banh Mi, Spam & Egg Banh Mi, and the Ube Iced Coffee all for myself (yes...I'm a glutton). The Char Siu Banh Mi was so-so. It was basically a meatball sandwich with pho broth as a dip. Surprisingly, I fell in love with the Spam & Egg Banh Mi. The egg was flavored for some sweetness, and it interacted really well with the saltiness of the spam. I also ordered the Ube Iced Tea and it was really tasty. The second time I came, I ordered the Spam & Egg Banh Mi (again), the Tofu Banh Mi, and a Vietnamese Iced Coffee. The sandwiches were both good, but I was a little disappointed in the iced coffee. It didn't have quite the sweetness of a typical Vietnamese coffee, so I'm guessing they skimped out a bit on the condensed milk. One thing I was extremely impressed with was the packaging. I'm a sucker for great packaging, and I loved it all - the sandwich box, the paper bags for take out, the individually wrapped utensils.

Yelp
if you like Phat Eatery, you'll love this place... as they use the same meats/flavors from Phat Eatery. Had the Beef Randang banh mi & Curry Chicken Banh Mi - Both came with a dip and were 10/10 - So good that the Girlfriend was drinking the curry... Pro tip- get the Garlic Aioli that you can pour/dip your sandwhich into. Overall - Clean restaurant, friendly service! Had 3-4 small tables for indoor seating, not recommended to eat there if you have a large party. It's more of a grab n go type of place. Def coming back to try more of this!!

Yelp
Taste: 4/5 Seating: 2/5 Staff: 5/5 Value: 3/5 I had heard a ton about Yelo and had high expectations when I learned it was tied to Phat Eatery The food tasted great, however for $7 for a basic banh mi, in my opinion, is too expensive. With all the options houston and Katy has to offer, you can get a comparable sandwich (or two for that matter) for the same price Portion size was small Pork was well seasoned and not overly salty Staff was very welcoming and cheerful, I loved the yellow crocs most of the staff had on! If Yelo can manage to find a healthy balance of portion size and value, I would definitely give this place another shot for the Banh Mi! I will be back to try their bowls in hopes that those are more satisfying for me.

Yelp
Delicious giving it second try ! I had the tofu sandwich and it was freshly made from the tofu to the bread which makes a big difference especially when it comes to banh mi . Tofu has to be freshly fried crispy outside and soft inside . Bread you could tell immediately if the bread is old or new in my case this second chance I gave it so happy I did .

Yelp
Yelo's banh mi is excellent--the lemongrass pork and curried chicken banh mi that my friend and I shared were delicious, excellent quality. My friend also ordered the crab rangoon appetizer and said it was just OK. It's right next door to Phat Eatery (and I think they're sister restaurants), so it's no surprise how good the food is!

Yelp
The place was busy on MLK afternoon. However, they only had two people working the entire place at 1:30 pm. We had ordered 3 banh mi, which one of them was pate only. The pate sandwich costs more than the grilled pork which makes little sense. Then we had to wait over 50 minutes for our To Go order. The service workers had very little urgency. The bread was very hard and the sandwiches were dull. This place is extremely over rated and over priced, as there are much better banh mi places in town.

Yelp
Picked up food to go here today, the rendang and chicken banh mi were great. A star off for forgetting the apple juice from my three year olds kids meal. Could have lived without that tantrum. Nice and safe experience.

Yelp
Good coffee and banh mi. Next time I go back I'll try some of their fresh juices. The pandan latte was sweet and very very coconut forward, so if you love coconut like me you'll enjoy it.

Yelp
Fish balls and fries was so good!! The curry sauce is super delicious though a bit spicy. Also tried the pork banh mi which was also tasty (next time I'll do jalapeños on the side!!) I'll definitely be back here. Price point is also great for a quick bite.
