Yerevan Armenian Cafe Opens for Coffee and Baklava in Adams Morgan - Eater DC

"Yerevan is a new Armenian cafe and market in Adams Morgan, Washington, D.C. The venue offers traditional Armenian pastries and dishes, including unfiltered coffee, gata cake, and kufta. The cafe is stocked with Armenian imports and aims to fill the void for Armenian cuisine in the area." - Adele Chapin

Great experience! The atmosphere that was created in this little cafe is as if one visits an Armenian friend: pleasant Armenian music in the background, Armenian books on a shelf, common Armenian table games, and Armenian pastries. There is a little section to buy some souvenirs. Service was very good because Armenians are known for their good hospitality. Kids will find themselves busy here, thanks to kids’ section. I enjoyed this place.

I'm so glad I got to visit Yerevan Cafe! It was such a treat. For one thing, the decor is beautiful and ties together wonderfully - the pottery elements throughout the cafe follow a theme which is echoed in the dishware used for hot beverages. There's a lot of art on display and attention to detail, and that is echoed in the food itself. This was my first time trying Armenian cuisine and it was an enticing introduction!! We got drinks (an iced mocha and a cherry blossom latte) which I quite liked, though there were a lot of options I would really like to try next time! We had the Yerevan trio - khatchapuri, sarma dolma, and soujuk pie as well as lahmajun. I hope I get the chance to return. They had fridges in the back with Armenian ingredients you can buy. The soujuk, which is a beef sausage, was so flavorful, and I'm pretty sure I saw some in the fridge. I've got to get my hands on some Armenian cheese too, because clearly they know what they're doing. Next time I'd really want to try the red lentil and apricot soup... Also, the trio came with pepper paste and labne - I thought both of these were phenomenal additions. Last but not least, we picked up a slice of garun and a slice of honey cake. Truly delicious. I would love to try everything on offer... Beyond that, I found the staff very nice, and it's worth mentioning that the spot is very accessible for those new to Armenian cuisine - the menu explains what each dish consists of which I found super helpful!

Yerevan Café in DC is a warm and welcoming spot that truly brings back memories of Armenia. The coffee is rich and authentic, the pastries are fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere feels like home. A must-visit for anyone craving genuine Armenian flavors!

Great food, although somewhat small portions. The service was quick. We also enjoyed going through some of the books about Armenian culture and food.

We went to this cafe today, ordered some cheese pie and iced coffees. Good choice of all kind of beverages. Armenian lady, who served us, was very kind and friendly. We will definitely come back again.

We are so happy that we have chosen such a perfect place for our private event. Yerevan cafe became our lovely spot in Washington DC and whole DMV area.

One of my favorite coffee shops in DC!! Tucked away in the outskirts of Adams Morgan, Yerevan may not look like much from the outside, but this hidden gem is an absolute delight. The staff is all super friendly, and they have the most incredible selection of pastries, coffee, and tea. I have probably tried half of their pastry case, and I continue to be impressed with each and every item. I absolutely adore their homestyle baklava -- the phyllo dough is perfectly crispy and soaks up the honey and nut mixture beautifully, and the dessert is simultaneously decadent and not overly sweet. The honey nugget is a great little sweet bite, and is the perfect gluten-free treat or small pick-me-up, and the honey cake is absolutely incredible. It's a smidge overly sweet (as the main flavor is, as the name implies, honey), but it still manages to be amazing. Beyond their lovely sweets, their drinks are incredible. They have one of my favorite matcha lattes in DC, as well as a matcha rose latte that is perfect when you're looking for a hint of spring. Their coffee is also wonderful, with a great nutty aroma and deep, robust flavor. It's also served in the cutest little Armenian mugs, which really adds to the overall experience. The space is shockingly large, with 4-5 larger tables and a couple 2-person tables, all beautifully arranged with cute little flower pots and throw pillows. They even have a small stack of books and board games if you get bored of yapping and need something else to keep you entertained. It's the perfect, cozy little spot to either read, work, or catch up with friends.

Google
I was pleased with my food there. The menu is not too big but there’re lots of Armenian essentials. Pretty affordable considering Washington prices. My only advice to the owners would be to extend business hours until at least 10pm, it closes too early in my opinion.

Yelp
It was my first time going to an Armenian place, and I was pleasantly surprised. The honey cake was to die for it's layered and sweet, but not in an overly intimidating way. I also like the soujuk pie. I would say the lahmajun was too small of a portion for me. Generally, their portion sizes tend to be on the smaller side. They also sell various items in the café, and I think those might be interesting to look at.

Yelp
The best dolma I ever tasted! The lavender latte was fantastic as well. And the lentil soup is indescribably delicious. Service was great as well. This is going to be one of my go-to places when I'm in Washington DC.

Yelp
Extraordinary food, great ambiance, and the best honey cake I've ever had in my life! This is a wonderful place to visit with extremely nice staff as well. 10/10!

Yelp
I am very disappointed. Finally found a place to have Armenian food ... ups ..full disappointment.. lahmajo and jangyalov hac no where near to real taste ‍ poor quality not justified prices. The honey cake was not good either... one thing was good was Armenian coffee.. service was not inviting... I won't be returning any more ‍

Yelp
This is a hidden gem in Admo! Lots of seating and a great place to come and do work or read. Food: We came in for lunch and had the trio. I think this was a good introduction to Armenian food for me, but my Armenian friend who came with me said it was just alright. I would recommend the classic khatchapuri puffs - we both loved them!! The grape leaves were also delicious but note that they are served cold, which is not the traditional Armenian way. Coffee and Dessert: Now this is what will keep me coming back again and again! The honey cake was to die for! My mouth is watering just thinking of it. If you like Turkish-type coffee or anything on the stronger side, I would highly recommend you try the Armenian coffee. I'm super excited to come back and try the rest of the desserts!

Yelp
It's a cute coffee shop with a good Americano. I want to return soon, as the barista was very nice and explained the pastries well!

Yelp
A cute little cafe that breathes Armenia. You sure do feel at home when you get there! We tried their lentil soup which was delicious. We also tried the lahmajun, zheygalov hats and Ashtarak salad. All Presented in Diradourian pottery hand made in Armenia. They have a variety of desserts, Armenian wine, brandy and gift items. Arthur was a great host who told us about the owners of the cafe. By the way, they were playing my favorite music of @gorsujyan, @rubenhakhverdian and many more.

Yelp
Nice little restaurant with good service. I had the salad and my friend had the soup. We shared a dessert. I wish the chairs were a little more comfy but there were people there working on their laptops so it is probably a great place to get some work done.

Yelp
Great food at this cozy Armenian cafe in Adams Morgan. You have to take a few steps down to enter Yerevan Cafe, which makes it feel tucked into the ground and like a literal hidden gem. The space is cutely decorated and bright and airy. I was there around 2pm on a Wednesday and a few others were working on their laptops in calm silence. I ordered food: Lentil soup: the lentil soup contained carrots and apricots and was absolutely delicious -- highly recommend if you're hungry. Veggie lovers: I ordered this for a chance to taste both dishes that it came with: zhingyalov hats and eech. The eech was like a spiced bulgur salad (served cold), and it was tasty and very filling. The zhingylov hats was like a spinach paratha/stuffed flatbread. It tasted a little bit too mild to me but was much more delicious dipped in the labneh that it came with.

Yelp
Great place, great service, great food, great ambience! My go to coffee shop. Just go.

Yelp
Found this little gem while searching for a spot to catch up with an old friend. It was a delight to find a taste of home only a block from my Adams Morgan hostel. The Armenian coffee was delicious and authentic, and it was funny to watch my friend's reaction when he tried a sip of mine! He opted for the hot cocoa and really enjoyed it. It was nice to sit in the cafe and hear Farsi, Russian, and Armenian. It is clearly a family business and the barista and staff made us feel so welcome. It was wonderful to share part of my culture with a friend in his own city :) A peaceful afternoon escape!

Yelp
I absolutely love the honey cake, lahmajo, and zhengyalov hats at this place. Each dish is incredibly flavorful and well-prepared. The service is consistently excellent, with a friendly and attentive staff that made our visit enjoyable. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, perfect for relaxing or catching up with friends. Another great perk is the selection of bottled wine and other drinks available on the menu. Overall, it was a fantastic spot for us to enjoy some delicious Armenian food and drinks.

Yelp
Great cafe tucked away in Admo! The staff was extremely kind and answered all the questions we had about the food. It's a great place for small bites and coffee. They also have some games to play, but it could also be a great place to work at.

Yelp
Good service and nice atmosphere but disappointing food. My friend and I ordered at the counter and received our food in a timely manner. I ordered the lahmajun, my friend ordered the Zhingyalov Hats and the Veggie Kufta, and we split the Khachapuri. Unfortunately Yerevan did not have the red lentil and apricot soup, one of the few unique Armenian dishes on the menu. I tried all the dishes my friend and I ordered and they all disappointed. Lahmajun: The dough was unremarkable, there was very little meat, and I could only barely taste the garlic and the red peppers among the other flavors. Khachapuri: This was a borek by another name and completely undistinctive. The feta lacked flavor and this pastry needed another cheese. Zhingyalov Hats: All-around not good. The greens and herbs were extremely overcooked with all flavor leeched out, and the dough was underwhelming. Veggie Kufta: Was served cold which came as a surprise, unremarkable. If you're looking for Caucasus food in DC, there are many better spots, including in Adams Morgan.

Yelp
Both types of baklava are delicious. Rose lemonade was refreshing. Service was friendly and prompt, the place is nicely decorated and welcoming with a pleasant community feel to it. Thanks Yerevan :)

Yelp
Cute little spot in Adams Morgan... we came for coffee and pastries, yumm! Loved the homemade baklava. This place is clean and cozy. I don't know anything about Armenian food but it was nice to see their products on the shelves. I love trying different cuisines.

Yelp
Found this place on a rainy day in DC and it was the perfect stop for lunch! We actually walked past it at first since we didn't realize there are a couple steps down to the place as it's a bit below ground level, but a sign that they'd put out on the sidewalk pointed us in the right direction! The server was really friendly and helped us choose our food and dessert too. I was also really impressed by the simple yet homey decorations that were put up around the cafe. There are also several tables to sit and WiFi is offered. They also sell a few Armenian items like coffee beans, chocolates, drinks, and more from the shelves. The whole place is so cute!! We ended up trying these menu items: Lahmajun - 5/5 - this was the Armenian pizza and it was super flavorful, well spiced, and squeezing the lemon on top gave it a perfect citrusy zing! Zhingyalov hats - 6!!/5 -these were filled with greens and SO tasty. Definitely my favorite, and feels really light and healthy as well. Mikado - 3/5 - honestly want that impressed with the dessert. Maybe it was just not what I was expecting, but the cake was pretty dry overall though it was nice and chocolatey from the top.

Yelp
I've been here a few times for wine and coffee. It's also a wonderfully cozy and quiet spot to work. I had a glass of red and the Yerevan Sandwich as a snack today; both were awesome! The people who work here are extremely friendly and helpful with the menu. I can't wait to go back and try more.

Yelp
This place is overlooked! I walked in and immediately felt like I had stepped into a cafe in Yerevan, Armenia. The menu is authentic and I enjoyed the lahmajoun, eech, and zhngalov hats. I also ordered traditional Armenian coffee and thought it was delicious. The music was the perfect complement to the space - it's a traditional Armenian singer with classic tracks. The staff and waitress were very friendly and I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Excitedly came to Yerevan since I was in the neighborhood and was underwhelmed by the food. While the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, the items I ordered were quite bland. I got the red lentil and apricot soup, as well as the khatchapuri. Since it's summer, the soup was served cold, and I thought the ingredients would bring out some unique flavors, but unfortunately, the soup just tasted like red lentils with sugar. The khatchapuri was undercooked and mostly tasted like dough. There really wasn't much of a presene of the Georgian cheese in the khatchapuri, which was a bummer. After being disappointed by both items, I figured there pastries would be the selling point. I ordered the mikado, an Armenian Chocolate Caramel layered cake, for takeout. Trying to dig in to the fake was like trying to pierce through cardboard- the cake was extremely dry and lacked any flavor of chocolate and caramel. While I loved the service and ambiance, the savory and sweet items were a huge letdown. Maybe a better spot for drinks and working.

Yelp
Yerevan is a cozy cafe/restaurant. The lady working was extremely friendly; she provided information on the teas they had, the way to eat the food, and even how the food is traditionally made in Armenia. I ordered the veggie platter and it was so delicious. I also got the thyme tea that was good as well. I enjoyed relaxing in the cafe with my food and tea reading my book. I look forward to going back and trying their array of desserts that looked so yummy.
google avatar

Laura B.

Yelp
This is a really sweet cafe with delicious pastries and a full menu of Armenian food. The space itself is really inviting and comfortable and the staff are friendly. I highly recommend the Mountain Tea which is made with thyme and is really unique. I always stop in for one when I'm walking by!

Yelp
This is a different sort of business for Adams Morgan. It's not a jumbo slice carryout or a hookah bar, nor is it a big upscale restaurant. It's more of a small underground cafe with a market function as well. Given that it's a pretty old building (and on a stretch that's seen a lot of failed businesses), they built out the space quite nicely. I cannot recall another Armenian restaurant in DC. About time we had one. I visited because they were open on the holiday. This was with reduced hours, and they were out of the lentil kofta I wanted so I ended up with grape leaves instead to round out a platter that also included a beet and bean salad and a flatbread with greens baked into it. There was still a nice mix of flavors; a dill-heavy salad mixed very nicely with my toasted bread. They had a dessert spread as well. I'll have to come back if I want my lentils, but I hope this place can do well by being different.

Yelp
A hidden location. Took a moment to find. It's across from the library and there's no immediate parking. Wasn't really what I expected/ it's a very tiny spot with several foldable wooden chairs and tables. I would say 95% of the patrons were on laptops. Not really ideal if you're wanting to eat because there was no place to sit and they had to take out another table and chairs directly behind the cash register to accommodate. I can't say I saw anyone eating or drinking anything and they were engrossed in their laptops and in no rush to leave. Some even took up entire tables using bags and purses on the empty chairs. Anyhow, we were starving and they were out of lahmajun. I got the kofta and he got the basterna sandwich. The plates came out and I honestly thought they were some complimentary aappetizers and then I realized they were the food. My meatballs were tiny. About the size of the frozen meatballs you find in the grocery store. They were cold so that threw me off but I thought they tasted decent. I've had Arabic and Persian and every other kind of kofta and my first experience having it cold. They came on a thin 3x3 sheet of flat bread. And there were 2 total. There wasn't anything else on the plate. The sandwich was also tiny. It was a couple sprigs of rocket lettuce and one slice of meat with some sort of cheese on the bottom and a tiny piece of tomato. Sadly we were both disappointed because he's Armenian and wanting some of his homeland food. It wasn't that it tasted bad but we honestly couldn't understand the portions. They are clearly not made to fill you up but as a finger food appetizer sort. Would I go back? I probably wouldn't. I was really disappointed. I can say the staff was friendly and it was nice hearing people speak Armenian from different backgrounds. The veggie plate took a long time to prepare. Not sure why but we were long finished and afraid of missing our ride. We got a jar of the garlic stems because they were that good. There's a wrapped greens dish called zhingyalov hats v ve that I really enjoyed. Not sure what exactly is in it because the description was vague but I liked it a lot as did he. I read they were wild greens but I would have liked to know some of the ingredients. Sorry was too hungry to take a photo because it came long after we finished and as were got into our transportation. They respond quickly on Instagram. Again, friendly staff but the experience was not at all what either of us expected. His mother didn't eat anything off her plate we brought and that's how I ended up trying the green wrap dish. They do have a nice little selection of Armenian spirits. Their gift shop is a great idea but it looked more like display because the space is so tiny. The market itself was also tiny but j appreciate them making the traditional foods available. I hope they transition into something more focused on food and accommodating diners and not being an internet cafe or a hangout for people to use their space for hours on end. I hope they have success. The cashier was a Russian Armenian and my date is Iranian Armenian so the convo was nice to hear.

Yelp
This review is long overdue! I came here during its opening week and it was such a wonderful experience beginning to end. It was very quiet and there was an Armenian women in front of us in line. She pointed out a few pastries she thought we should try and told us to try some candy as well. She was very excited to finally have Armenian food within access and mentioned she drove from Alexandria to pick some things up twice already. We loved all the desserts recommended and truly enjoyed our coffee as well. The windows allow you to people watch perfectly on a nice day. At one point, the worker dropped by to chat to us about the desserts and coffee for a moment, which really enhanced the welcoming feel. I've come by a few times since to pick up a dessert or food to go and definitely recommend it for something unique in DC!

Yelp
In the heart of Adams Morgan is the city's first Armenian bakery- Yerevan (named after the capital of Armenia). On the bottom floor of a 1910 apartment building, it's open every day. Opened by an immigrant family, its meant to be a community space that happens to brew Armenian mountain tea and bake gata, Armenian sweet bread. Here's why you should go: 1) Space: Artisan art from Armenia hang on the wall and goods from Armenia are sold on shelves throughout Yerevan- jams, dumplings, toys, clothes, etc. There are several tables inside and one lone table outdoors. There's a kids' corner with two toys and a community coloring wall, which my four-year-old loved. 2) Drinks: They brew Eight O'Clock coffee and made an excellently creamy latte for $4.50. However, get the Armenian mountain tea for the cultural experience. 3) Food: They sell a variety of savory and sweet pastries from gata, Armenian sweet bread, to baklava to khachapuri. My daughter and I got a sampling of pastries and enjoyed the gata and a chocolate layered pastry. Overall, the pastries were a bit dry, but that's typical for the area. (I grew up in Central Asia where pastries are also a bit dry for the American taste.) 4) Service: The workers' passion can be felt from the moment you walk through the glass doors. A gentleman from Armenia and a woman from Southeast D.C. were working the counter and both were proud of the cafe they helped build. Service was fast. 5) Wifi: There's strong, free wifi available. Open every day, this is a perfect spot to work. If you love coffee, tea and have a passion for culture, go to Yerevan once it opens at 10 a.m. every day.

Yelp
Yerevan Market & Cafe is fantastic and a wonderful addition to the Adam Morgan Neighborhood. Parents- this place is totally kid friendly!!! The only thing is you will have to leave your stroller outside or carry it down two steps. They have a little children's corner which is so nice. There are a few toys and puzzles, coloring sheets, a coloring wall, and a kid sized table and chairs. Also, there is a baby changing table inside the (exceptionally clean) bathroom! This would be a lovely place to come for coffee with your child. The baked goods are delicious. We tried the baklava for $3 and the honey cake for $6.50. The baklava was good but the honey cake was amazing. We were meant to share but I wanted to eat the whole thing myself! Just the right amount of sweetness, soft and fluffy, simply divine. Would 100% recommend. The armenian coffee is strong and the perfect pairing for the sweet treats. Also, the cherry juice for children is tart and sweet, your kid will love it! They have cute red cups and bendy straws. Overall, definitely a 5 star place, there is something for everyone here. They even have gifts for both adults and children, as well as both refrigerated and shelf stable food products to bring home. Another plus- the staff here is so friendly, especially the manager!

Yelp
Woah these are the types of restaurants /cafes I love seeing and trying! A pretty cozy basement cafe with several tables inside. Small cafe but feels open and spacious prob due to the small tables. I tried the LAHMAJUN and VEGGIE KUFTA. Both were super flavorful and delicious. It had plenty of spices albeit if a bit on the dry side. The LAHMAJUN is aka "Armenian pizza" according the restaurant and the dough does remind me of thin stone oven pizza. The minced meat has tomatoes and the spices taste like cumin, pepper and paprika...all my fave things. I love trying new cuisines so this place makes it super approachable (smaller plates). Would love to come back for some coffee and studying/working. I did get all these to-go today and service was also very speedy.

Yelp
Wonderful place. Only place around to get a lahmejun like I grew up with, and they're perfect.

Yelp
We tried Lahmajun and it's nothing like the Lahmajun I know. Small cafe. Very small Plates. Armenian coffee is good.

Yelp
Oh well, Wonderful place we discovered today. It was decorated with lovely Armenian decorations and shelves with authentic food items for sale. I was surprised by how excellent the food was in this cozy Cafe. We tried the apricot soup was just fantastic, so good!!! And the best Napoleon cake I ever tried!!! My husband tried Mikado cake; he is not a big fan of desserts, but he loved Mikado and even bought Mikado, baklava, and honey cake to go. And Armenian coffee was stunning. This impressive place made my day today, and we will be back for outstanding food, fantastic desserts and coffee. I will definitely recommend this place to everyone!!!!!!!

Yelp
The only authentic Armenian cafe we've been able to find in the DC area! Yerevan Cafe has a calm, inviting atmosphere with ample seating and natural light in the heart of Adam's Morgan. Stop by for delicious Armenian Coffee, amazing wines and brandy (get the Ararat!), hot snacks, pastries, and a selection of frozen delicacies. The owners are very friendly and host free wine tastings and other events such as book signings and art displays. Definitely a great find, we will be back soon. Thank you, Yerevan Cafe, for bringing a taste of beautiful Armenia to DC!

Caitlin C.

Yelp
Such a cute and cozy café! Plus the food here is delicious. I loved the lahmajun and Armenian coffee. The server even brought us a free dessert!

Yelp
Lovely service and people, but their desserts are not good... :( dry and not worth indulging (tried napoleon and honey cake).

Yelp
Overall: Excellent patisserie/coffee&tea shop with great service and relaxed atmosphere. Tastiness: We tried the mountain tea - herbal and aromatic, Armenian coffee - strong and silky, and honey cake - spongy morsels of subtle sweetness and creaminess. Will 100% return to try some of their other pastries and coffee selection. Service: My husband and I stumbled upon this place on a Wednesday afternoon and the shop had pretty much every table taken. I believe it was the owner/shop manager who saw us walk through the door and got up and moved somewhere in the back with his laptop. Great service from the get-go. Also, the young person who rang our order and made our coffee and tea was super nice and friendly. Ambiance: Cute coffee shop with a beautiful Armenian art and minimalistic decor. A gem in the heart of Adams Morgan! Cleanliness: Very clean coffee shop! Price: Fair for NW DC.

Yelp
I really liked this cozy cafe in Adams Morgan. Clean, friendly and such delicious food. The lamajun was the real deal and home made. The Khatchapuri was delicious. I did not have enough room to taste the jingialov bread filled with greens. Next time.

Yelp
Friendly staff, great coffee and sweets, and a solid selection of Armenian products (both frozen/refrigerated and boxed/canned goods). Simple but nice interior, with some low-volume Armenian music to set the mood. You can tell this place was a labor of love. As an Armenian, I can say that the Armenian coffee here is among the best I've had. For those who are new to Armenian culture/cuisine try the lahmajun - it's like a flatbread/pizza hybrid and it's a crowd pleaser. Moving from LA to DC, it was a bit of a culture shock to arrive somewhere with barely any Armenian presence, so I'm happy that this place exists. They're doing a great job of catering to the surrounding community with their customer service and family-owned vibe.

Yelp
This little cafe on 18th street has great atmosphere and delicious pastries! We ordered the honey nuggets and apricot peach mousse cake, along with rose latte and lavender latte. Will come back for sure!

Yelp
Visited this cute Armenian cafe a few days after they opened. This definitely skews Russian influence (Armenia proper) vs. the Armenian diaspora cuisine that trends more Middle Eastern. I decided to order most of what they offer to have a good sampling which I shared with a friend. We started with several savory options which were heated up for us and brought to our table on beautiful and ornate pottery plates: - Zhingyalov Hats - this was our favorite item here. I've had Armenian food before but have never heard of this or had it. Sort of like lavash pockets filled with delicious finely diced herbs and greens (parsley, spinach, onions, etc). Tasted so bright and fresh and the bread was so perfect that we had to get another one which we quickly devoured. - Lahmajun - traditional Armenian flatbread-like dish. Served with small lemon wedges to squeeze on top. This version meets the mark. There are two varieties in the freezer if you want to walk out with a stack of them. They're cooked so you just need to reheat/microwave. - Khachapuri - yummy cheese-filled pastry. Dough was very nice. Similar to cheese boereg. Cheese could use a bit more character. - Mini Kufta - never really been a fan of this bulgur-wrapped dish that is common at Lebanese restaurants. This was sort of dry to me. I'd skip it next time. - Olivie Salad - similar to potato salad with finely diced potatoes, hard boiled eggs, and small peas. Was a fine accompaniment to our other items. They were out of the Sarma unfortunately. I got the Tan (yogurt drink) which was fine. Was served in a small glass and with ice which was not ideal. Non-carbonated version thankfully. For dessert, I took the following items to go: - Baklava - there were a few versions to pick from. Go with the "homemade" diamond-shaped ones in my photo. Nailed it. Delicious. - Gata - essentially a peasant cake. Sweet and simple. - Cigarette & circular baklava-like dessert - both pretty dry and just ok. Skip the circular one. - Mikado - multi-layered chocolate pastry. Sort of like a compressed Napoleon that is very chocolatey. - Honey cake - spongier/fluffier and more honey taste than Sharbat's version which is much more Napoleon-like (dry pastry layers with cream in between). The staff could not have been friendlier. I saw one take over a complimentary peach nectar drink (in a tiny solo cup with a small bendy straw) to a little girl eating with her parents. Tons of packaged items to leave with like fruit preserves, pickled veggies, candies and a packed fridge and freezer with Armenian string cheese, cured meats, Lahmajun, Manti (says Russian-style), and more. They just opened, so I'll want to visit them again after they get a few weeks under their belt. I think they should consider narrowing down to some of the best options and focusing on those, particularly with the sweet pastries. Maybe offer two varieties of Lahmajun (one spicier) and occasionally change up the cheese filling in the Khachapuri to keep things interesting. Also consider putting the savory items on display or including pictures on the menu for the unfamiliar diner. Approximately 6 tables inside and one small two-seater outside. Go check them out.

Yelp
I need to downgrade this place now...the price for desserts have become borderline unaffordable. I get that inflation is an issue but this absurd.

Yelp
An absolute gem. Amazing coffee, and all the food and deserts here were amazing. I loved the gata, Lahmajun, zhingyalov hatz and khatchapori. I also recommend getting the Armenian lavash bread and putting the ohanyan basturma inside of it making a little sandwhich it is amazing. There sarma dolma is the next thing I will try looked amazing. Definitely recommend this place must try in DC.

Yelp
I'm so happy this place exists. There are virtually no Armenian restaurants or bakeries anywhere in DC, and the prime location in the heart of Adams Morgan is definitely a plus. We stopped by for dinner last night and came back for breakfast this morning to try their Armenian coffee. Although there are some areas where they can improve, overall we really enjoyed the delicious food, great service, and the comfortable setting. First thing to note: this is a cafe. There are no entrees on the menu--there are appetisers and desserts. They also sell some pre-packaged Armenian and Eastern European food. They are currently working on getting their liquor license, so don't come expecting alcohol. But they have a good range of non-alcoholic drinks. That Armenian coffee is strong! And really good. Also try the Armenian 'mountain' herbal tea (with thyme). They also have a savoury yogurt-type drink, mineral water, and juices. I wasn't very impressed with the pomegranate juice but I'm sure they have other better options. The food is good--not amazing (the dough of most of pastries is a bit dry), but I did really love the home-style baklava, the dolma, and the Russian salad 'vinegrette'. But what I loved the most was the atmosphere--a simple but tastefully appointed interior, and the great service. This is the type of place where I could easily spend hours chatting with a friend or stop by for a morning coffee and pastry. Overall, this place is unique and is definitely worth checking out. I'm sure I'll be back many times.

Yelp
Cute, cozy, and welcoming little cafe! Got a couple of desserts and latte; very tasty! Served by the owner/manager who said he and his wife opened a couple of years ago, mid-pandemic. It's apparently the only Armenian spot in DC. Definitely going to come back to have a meal.

Yelp
This Armenian cafe and market is an awesome addition to the neighborhood! The selection isn't huge but very unique, the cafe has plenty of seats to work/study and the staff is super friendly/helpful in making a selection! The market has beautiful Armenian art and souvenirs, foods (salads, frozen goods, buckwheat), teas, juices and more. The bakery has coffee, baklava (different varieties), Napoleon cake (pastry with cream - loved it) and other baked goods!

Yelp
Yerevan is a hidden gem in the Adams Morgan area of DC. It's a cafe that also includes a small market for Armenian candies, teas and other staples like cheeses and salads. It also has a cool collection of curated items for purchase to support Armenian artists. I especially love the colorful handmade imported cups they serve the coffee in (so much that I purchased a set of 6 to take home with me!) My favorite cafe food items include the Armenian coffee, veggie lovers platter, Mikado and honey cakes. Overall, a cute and clean environment for work on the laptop or meet-up spot with friends for a coffee and bite to eat. If you have any questions about some of the less familiar items, don't hesitate to ask the friendly staff. I would definitely visit again the next time I'm in the area!
