"I could tell you about how weird it was that a hostel in Newcastle, Australia made it into the WWOOF directory, and how when I showed up there was no organic garden to tend, only beds to be made and bathrooms to be cleaned. Instead of organic meals I had a meager grocery budget, which I’d spend on beans, toast, and sausage rolls at the gas station, and I slept in a guest bunk. I was the only WWOOF participant there, which was not uncommon on farms, but it felt strange when everyone else was paid hostel staff or guests." - Jaya Saxena

After staying here on and off for 6 weeks, I can confidently say that this accommodation is superb for backpackers and travelers alike. Clean sheets, hot showers with good water pressure, and a well equipped kitchen. Kind and dedicated staff. I experienced almost every room type the hostel has to offer and can vouch for its cleanliness and value. The location is perfect if you love exploring the city and the beach. Free bikes and surfboards at your disposal make for a budget-friendly fun. I love how low-key but inviting this hostel is too. Highly recommend!

What a charming place! It’s certainly old but that means it’s got loads of character. It was clean and well maintained. |The locations is perfect - steps away from the beach, there are several great cafes around the corner. Supermarket is just up the street. |The hostel facilities are great too - a spacious fully equipped kitchen with four cooking areas and 4 sinks! Washers, dryers, free bikes and surfboards. Even free pool table and ping pong. |It’s a gem for a traveler on a budget. They even advertise job vacancies on the notice board if you want to pick up some work in Newcastle.

Stayed one night. Very nice place, comfy beds that you make yourself when you arrive. Bathrooms smelled and it would be handy to have more of them but otherwise great place. Spacious kitchen, nice book exchange and laundry. Free surfboards and bogey boards. Easy walk to the beach. Surrounded with cute restaurants, close enough to a grocery store and pharmacy.

YHA Newcastle Beach has an amazing location, just steps away from the ocean — perfect for beach lovers and surfers. The kitchen is well equipped, making it easy to prepare your own meals. Rooms are on the smaller side but cleaned regularly, which keeps things comfortable. Keep in mind, it's a hostel, not a hotel or BnB, so don’t expect luxury — but for a short holiday trip, it’s a complete value for money. Great vibes and a solid choice for budget-conscious travellers!

It's a hostel man, it's never gonna be perfect, but as far as hostels go this is as good as it gets. Great location, not too busy in the winter months, and big open common room with a guitar floating round. Also free surfboards and wetsuits with the beach just at the end of the road. First time I went here I went down to Newcastle Surf Beach and embarrassed myself getting churned up in the whitewater in front of 20 locals. If you're a novice like me, make the longer walk up to Nobby's for a friendlier break.

Great value for money as the hostel is a boon for someone looking at a short stay and that too near the beach area. The facilities and amenities are well maintained with a premium wifi, modern kitchen facility, laundry, bathrooms and a common living area. There is a snack fridge inside the living area too. Rent is affordable, parking on weekdays has to be organised if driving there.

I’ve stayed at this hostel several times whenever I visit Newcastle, and it’s always my top choice. The place is quiet, comfortable, and conveniently located near the beach, making it a perfect spot for relaxation. The receptionist, Catalina, is incredibly nice and friendly, always greeting guests with a warm smile and offering great service. I was especially impressed when I lost my right AirPod three months ago, and the staff went out of their way to find it and keep it safe for me until I returned. I highly recommend this hostel to anyone visiting Newcastle – it’s a wonderful place to stay!

Newcastle YHA is the best hostel here in the hunter valley, the building has great charm and history since 1885 plenty of info about it there. Check in was very seamless with the staff 😊. the dorm room that I got for the first part was great never completely full and has ensuite for the room/ dorm 👌🏽 room was cleaned daily by HK 💯 . Room/Dorm has fans and heaters there and effective enough. Great to have power points to charge phone and iPad in the lockers that u can secure .your self 🔐 . Huge kitchen plenty of cooking facilities, fridges and freezer too . YHA is so close to beach, public transport, local supermarket , honeysuckle precinct great for any one that wants to see the best of Newy . Only down falls are the old windows upstairs let a small amount of annoying light into rooms at nighttime , the vending machine in common room is over priced but it’s a 3rd party owned and operated good for a treat now and then. We will deff return for next big event ( McDonald Stadium womens NRL SOO Game , or Newcastle Racecourse , or Concert at Pokolbin) in the region . thanks all there at Newy YHA
