4 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles: May 9 | Eater LA

"Set in a Koreatown strip mall (same plaza as Rice Chicken and Stagger Coffee), this spot specializes in cumin-spiced lamb skewers served alongside beer, rice, dumplings, and more. The restaurant opens at 4 p.m. and comes alive at night with K-pop and Y2K remixes blaring over the speakers as random music videos play on the television in the back. Beer is fairly affordable and is available by the pitcher if dining with a group, and the restaurant stays open until 2 a.m., just in case late-night cravings hit. The main downside is that most of the time the skewers come pre-grilled from the kitchen instead of being grilled at the table, so if table-grilling is a dealbreaker, look elsewhere." - Eater Staff

This place is amazing. I crave it every week. Get the spicy lamb skewers, peanut noodles, cucumber salad, and 100% at least one order of the sweet and sour pork. Dip in the peanut noodle sauce! Got the leeks for the first time this time, eat it with the lamb sooo good. Imo is so kind, and the prices are very reasonable!

Google
At Yi Pin Chuan, this Chinese BBQ spot partially cooks your meat kebabs before putting them on your table’s automated self rotating grill and that already makes them stand out over the other similar restaurants in LA’s Koreatown. If you’re able to NOT spill their chili and cumin powder all over the place😅, be sure to dip your meats in them for even more spice and flavor activation! My favorite meat of this meal? The lamb spare ribs: their perfectly seasoned meat easily breaks away from the bone ✨If that’s not enough to convince you, then their Fried Sweet & Sour Pork with the juiciest meat on the inside and crispiest batter and sweet sauce on the outside definitely will✨ We had: 🐷Fried sweet and sour pork, 🥬Water Spinach, 🐑Spicy Lamb Kebab, 🥩Beef Kebab, 🌶️Spicy Beef Kebab, 🍖Lamb Spare Ribs

Absolutely adore this place! The only downside is that Parking is not easy though, also it's not closer to our house; if it were, we'd be regulars, visiting at least once a week. The atmosphere is super chill, making it perfect for hanging out with friends or enjoying a family dinner. They also have options for kids as well. If you're a fan of deliciously grilled meats on skewers, then this is definitely the spot for you!

We loved the eggplant fried rice and they made it to a heard shape! The service was also great and the server come by many times and ask if we need anything. The atmosphere was great and they opened till night. Great place for friends gathering and drinking.

Google
BBQ skewers are phenomenal and the little seasonings that come with. We also got a side of spicy tofu that was so so good. Place is a bit noisy, but it’s fun to come for drinks and grilled meat with friends. Probably one of the best places I’ve been to since moving to Ktown. Highly recommend!

Google
My favorite skewers place. Found this spot on google map because of my late night cravings. But turned out to be an absolute hidden gem. The lamb skewers here are sooo good. The flavor is delicious and really authentic. Seasoning is right on point. Exactly the same as what I’ve had in China. I think it’s the best lamb skewers in LA in my personal opinion. Every dish is served ready. I don’t like to cook the skewers myself so this is a bonus. So far I’ve not ordered anything that’s not good. Everything from the menu is a hit. The restaurant is inside a plaza so parking is convenient. I think this plaza just opened up. So far is not busy considering it’s in Ktown.

Love eating at Chinese skewer spots and getting to see the kebabs rotate on the grill. Yi Pin Chuan is opened late until 2am everyday. Their specialty is their lamb kebabs, but they have some other great options that we tried like spicy beef, quail eggs, and sausage. Don’t skip out on the garlic scallop vermicelli! 🔥

Google
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fantastic BBQ Spot! This BBQ place is a gem! The spicy beef skewers are perfectly seasoned and incredibly tender. We also loved the 锅包肉 (sweet and sour pork) and 地三鲜 (sautéed veggies)—both were full of flavor. The grilled pork aorta was crispy and delicious, and the bacon-wrapped enoki mushrooms were a savory treat. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. The cozy, clean atmosphere was perfect for our dinner. Highly recommend this spot for anyone who loves great BBQ!

Yelp
The name of this place is soooooo hard to remember. It's one of those places that has the type of name where if anyone asks you where you ate, you have to give them the cross streets haha. Anyway, if anyone lives in ktown, they probably know that the place to go get lamb skewers is over at Feng Mao, but in the recent years, what happened was they got rid of their charcoal setup and installed electrical heaters instead. And while the meat rotates on its own, it's not the same flavor and taste when you're cooking on electric as opposed to charcoal. So I wanted to try a different place but as anyone knows, with how expensive everything is nowadays due to inflation and whatnot, visiting a new restaurant is a risk. But this one paid off. They have the same rotating setup for the meat that Feng Mao has, but they use charcoal!!! I've gone here twice. The first time I was really happy and this time around, I was pretty happy too. I got the lamb skewers, which I think are of high quality and extremely tasty here. In addition, I love the leeks and the flavor they exude with all of the charcoal integrated into them. I got a fried potato dish that was pretty good, but you can probably find one with less oil at a Korean place. In addition, the chicken gizzard skewers were quite flavorful and the beef ones as well. Maybe next time, I'll skip on the beef though just because of how much better the lamb ones taste. Instead of getting one seeded dip like you do at Feng Mao, you get two here, so you get a bit of a variety. They taste pretty good and I like mixing them. It's always nice to be able to dip your skewers into a mix of cumin and other seasonings. The service is pretty good too. The staff speaks both Chinese and Korean. The ambiance is really neat. There's an astronaut drawn on the wall that is dapping and they play a lot of kpop, mostly Blackpink, and you get free Chinese candy on the way out. Also, their soju and beer bottles are $7 too. Every time I've gone, this place has been empty though. I think it's because more people know of Feng Mao, but I'd say this place is definitely a solid place to go and try.

Yelp
We were seated promptly in one of the booths and got the following: (8/10) lamb kebab (10pcs) - more lean meat than fat, I liked the seasoning but still dipped with the cumin and (7/10) beef kebab (5pcs) - pretty good as well (8/10) quail (1pcs) - comes with 4 quail eggs on a stick Everything came out cooked already, but they stay heated over the fire. They give you side dishes including roasted peanuts, bean sprouts, ya cai. It can get pretty loud inside. The interior was filled with neon signs and gave cyberpunk vibes. It's a korean-chinese fusion so the servers speak both languages. The open until 2am, so perfect for a late night snack.

Yelp
Stopped by on Saturday around midnight and it was pretty empty. The servers are very friendly. My friend and I were laughing about how the same song was playing on repeat for an hour. From favorites to least: Lamb Skewers - soo tender & juicy! Good spice lvl. Would order all lamb next time. Cucumber Salad - solid tangy cucumber salad, essential to the meal Beef Skewers - beef is good, but lamb is better here Grilled Squid Legs - a bit too chewy but I love the char Quail eggs - standard, a nice change of pace from meat Cold noodles - not good, we didn't eat it.. though we were very full. The meat tasted old and the noodles were clumped together.

Yelp
This spot is great for Chinese-Korean street‑food vibes. Their lamb skewers come pre‑grilled to juicy perfection and seasoned so well even lamb skeptics love them. The chicken gizzard, chicken softbone, cold noodles and grilled eggplant fare my fav. The rotating table grills keep everything piping hot and aromatic. Service is friendly and multilingual (English, Mandarin, Korean)--and the casual, late-night atmosphere makes it perfect for hangouts. Just be aware: parking can be tricky. We came on a late weekday night so it's wasn't a problem but day time will be hard to find parking.
google avatar

Eunice L.

Yelp
The quality of the lamb is excellent. It comes partially pre-grilled, which saves cooking time and makes it easier to enjoy. The seasoning is done so well that even people who usually don't eat lamb might find it approachable and enjoyable. Overall, I was very satisfied.

Yelp
Ambiance: it's located in a packed plaza, shared parking lot with bbq place and liquor store Service: self serving to scan the bar code for the table and then place the order online, then waitress brought the items to the table Food: plenty choices of items, note all dishes including the skewers are precooked before served to the table Side dishes - *** complimentary small salads, pickles, peanuts, and dried spices Lamb Kebab - **** recommend Beef Kabab - **** recommend Egg Plant - *** garlic flavor, old eggplant Leek - *** old chives but good flavors Squid Leg - *** overcooked Fried Pork w/Sweet & Sour - ** the only really disappointing dish, the inside pork meat slice is so thin and the outside battered coat is so thick, after a few bites still not touched the meat, it's supposed to be crispy but apparently not here Price: moderate portions, some items are decent while few are overpriced for the quality, expect $45~$50 per person

Yelp
The kebab sizes was perfect and service was so kind and clean. I loved the portions. The cucumber salad was so refreshing and would definitely recommend. There is valet parking and bathrooms available

Yelp
The food and skewers and service were great! However when I asked them if their skewer seasoning had peanuts in it they said no, but my partner had a severe allergic reaction!! (Peanuts are the only thing they are allergic to.) If you are allergic to peanuts DO NOT get the skewers or use the seasoning!

Yelp
Honestly such a fun experience! The food was also super yummy. A bit spicy so just beware but everything was so tasty and just overall fun! They don't really let you actually look things from what I can tell but it's still a really cool experience. You have to get the cucumber salad, it is better than din tai fung!!

Yelp
I love this place for late night eats with friends. My favorite dish here is the LEEKS THEY ARE A MUST SO YUM SO UNDERRATED. cannot go wrong with the beef and lamb skewers, would recommend the spicy version if you can handle the heat. You order off a rq code and the servers are very kind and energetic. The ambiance reminds me close of a small pocha or street club. Cannot wait to come back here again.

Yelp
I went with some friends to check out Yipin Chuan in Ktown, Los Angeles last week. It felt different from the skewers in the Chinese district. There is a small stove under the table that can keep the temperature and aroma of the skewers., Los Angeles. It felt different from the skewers in the Chinese district. There is a small stove under the table that can keep the temperature and aroma of the skewers. I have to say that their stir-fried dishes are really amazing to me, especially the Guobao Pork, which is made in an old-fashioned way and is really crispy on the outside and tender on the inside without being chewy. Of course, we also ordered the Fat Sausage, which is not inferior to the Fat Sausage at all. It's very clean and the thickening is just right. Personally, it surpasses many restaurants that specialize in Northeastern cuisine.

Yelp
Did you know there is an area in China that borders Korea that speaks Korean and celebrates Korean traditions? This place caters to that, with a hybrid Chinese-Korean style menu and service. The waiters speak fluent Chinese, Korean, and English, and the menus also contain the 3 languages. You get some small side dishes in traditional Korean restaurants, but you also get many Chinese dishes. Best of both worlds! Parking is a $3 valet when I went. I ordered their beef and lamb kabobs, sweet and sour pork, clams, and other small dishes. For starters, their kebab game is really good; the sizes are pretty big and are fresh with traditional northern style seasonings. They have an automatic rotating grill that helps you grill/heat up kebabs, which is cool. The sweet and sour pork has qualities of a chinese-korean mix - you'll know if you had guobaorou/tang suyuk. Their clams with vermicelli were plentiful in meat and yummy. I just wish they gave you more seasonings for the kebabs on the side. The decor is really nice and feels a little like a place to drink with friends in China/Korea. You can tell it's locally owned. While the food was pretty good, and offered a plethora of authentic Chinese/Korean fusion, the prices are a little on the expensive side. It was about $200 for 4 people, and the party wasn't entirely full afterwards.

Yelp
I came to eat late after an event and the restaurant wasn't too crowded. Skewers are always a good idea. But also recommend the SHREDDED POTATO and the SCALLOP CLAM. ENJOY! PS: Since it was late we were able to get parking in the lot.

Yelp
Chinese kebab restaurants aren't exactly the most common occurrence so imagine my surprise when the craving popped up and there was Yipinchuan right in ktown! It's a bit of a Korean-Chinese Kebab restaurant so if you speak Korean, Chinese, or English, you'll do just fine here. And you'll know it's even better when the service is practically nonexistent because everyone knows the good places are there to serve good food (ie. Beef and lamb kebabs), not good service. So anyway, onto the food: Kebabs are the name of the game here. If you want a carb, sure get a fried rice or a hot pot or noodles or something. In fact, just get it all. You're getting nice quality food that's best shared with a party of 4 cause you can't order individual kebabs, at least for the meats. Anyway, they bring it to you cooked so the grill is more so to keep your food warm but it's fun to rotate the kebabs on the oscillating grill. So all in all, a nice late night kebab place to drink and eat and just chill.

Yelp
surprised to find Chinese skewers in k-town! we ordered so many delicious tender beef and lamb skewers. pork belly was fabulous and so were the pork feet. sweet and sour pork had an addicting taste and texture. servers were friendly and faster than the Flash himself. very clean and well maintained, overall perfect place to drink and catch up with friends

Yelp
Best lamb kebab in ktown los angeles. They are good food and good service. I will come back soon!!! High recommend this place!!!

Yelp
We ordered from the "most popular items" menu list. We got the lamb and beef skewers. Both came already cooked. Both were dry and the portions are tiny for the price (5 skewers for $13ish). I ordered the scallop vermicelli because it looked good on Tik Tok. I've definitely had better at Chinese buffets. It's basically a small bundle of vermicelli per shell with a mushy scallop (most likely frozen) and a heaping spoonful of jarlic on top. The flavor is there, but wouldn't order again. The parking lot was valet (as of Oct 2024) for $3 which wasn't bad. Was really exciting to try this place, but overall we left disappointed. Sad to say probably won't be returning.

Yelp
Tried this spot yesterday and I'm still drooling thinking about it today I got lamb, beef, and pork belly skewers and every single one of them was super juicy, tender, and well-seasoned. Their portion sizes for the skewers are also super good! Most of all the service was amazing. The lady was super kind and hospitable to us, making it very warm and inviting to eat there. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Hidden gem in Ktown. Food is on point, service is great!! 1. Fried Sweet & Sour Pork 5/5 This is probably the best sweet and sour pork I ever had in LA. It's crispy outside, tender inside. And the batter was not to thick like others I had. Impressive. 2. Lamb Kebab 4.5/5 I love they gave me some fat with the meat. Goes so well with the beer. 3. Abalone 4/5 4. Chicken Cartilage 4/5 Overall, a very nice place to hangout or get want some food late night (they close at 1:30am) The lady who served us is very nice and friendly, she speaks English, Korean and Chinese. I will def come back again.
google avatar

Alex Y.

Yelp
Super delicious and authentic northeastern Chinese food! They offer to cook the kebab for you too. Everything is delicious and the service is very good!

Emanon Y.

Yelp
Service and atmosphere were fine, but this restaurant's version of sweet and sour pork was the absolute worst version of the dish I've ever had in the world. Insultingly small peoce of meat relative to the extremely starchy breading. Top it all off no flavor whatsoever. Stick to the skewers

Yelp
Good service, great food , fun grilling yourself. The parking a little tough. The lamb , the chicken liver , the beef skewers are very good,

Yelp
Hours say open until 1:30 AM every night. Drove over here. Neon sign says open. Door is unlocked. Walk in at 11:30 PM. A table full of people look at me in shock. I ask if they are open, they timidly say they are closed. While in my truck out front looking for another place to go, the neon sign suddenly turns off and all the lights go out. Weird.
google avatar

Xiaoyue W.

Yelp
I made a reservation on Yelp at 1pm, and I received text confirmation after that. Google map, Apple map and Yelp say it opens, but when I finally got there, it was closed. The sign outdoor says it opens at 4pm. I called but nobody picked up. My suggestion here to Yipinchuan is, if you wanna do fancy reservation function like others, make sure you have the ability.

Yelp
highly recommend this restaurant! The food are traditional and very delicious ! I love the chicken knee soft bone, duck blood, fried pork with sweet and sour! And they have Qingdao beer! Nice place for large group to hang out and eat!

Angela A.

Yelp
Do NOT order TAKEOUT waited 20 min for simple dishes. Not worth and no excuse to the long wait. I watched as they served multiple dishes out.
google avatar

Connie Y.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. Our waiter could speak Mandarin and Korean. Will highly recommend if you like skewers! The inside is clean and they had this skewer grills where the skewers rotate by themselves!
google avatar

Dorothy D.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. Very chill vibes to take your friends. Has some classic Chinese kebab flavors while having a nice selection of soju. Would recommend the mushroom kebab if you love shittake and garlic and the scallop clam. Coming back again

Olivia M.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants out there- I stumbled into it on accident one day when my mom was about to have a protein deficiency meltdown, and boy am I glad I did. They have some of the tastiest food I have ever experienced in ktown. It's now our go to for la zi ji and cold noodles. Seriously so tasty!!!! Panda every one of the severs is so nice too, I highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
AWESOME FOOD!!! Best lamb skewer I have ever had Workers are also very friendly! They always come by to check how everything is going. The lamb skewer is well marinated so it goes really well with both white rice or beer. Make sure to have it with Tsingtao!

Bar C.

Yelp
We went here around 11:30pm on a Friday night and the food was fresh and delicious and service was on key. Their kind staff and owner/manager served us amazing lamb skewers (regular lamb, tendon, etc) and sweet and sour pork. I highly recommend Yipinchuan!
google avatar

Brian N.

Yelp
Found this place through a Yelp ad and it was great! Usually skewer restaurants are a little greasy and feel gross, but this place was super clean and the layout is great for group dinners. The staff was also super attentive and made sure our food was cooked thoroughly and that we had everything we needed. They also have pretty good prices for soju, especially in ktown. Could definitely be a good place to get turnt on the weekend!
google avatar

Andy Z.

Yelp
The food is great. This place opens til 1:30am. Great for late night dinner or gathering. The way they cook the kobab is very interesting
google avatar

Lily H.

Yelp
Authentic korean chinese restaurant, the meat on skewers were tender and had good flavor. I normally can't do too much due to some smell on lamb but these had none of that!! It was exactly like the ones I had from China and Korea - with the moving grill. Definitely try the fried sweet and sour pork - they were my favvvv. I'd highly recommend trying this place!

Liz M.

Yelp
The food hands down!! First time here. We were visiting LA and decided to try something new. We loved it!! The service was great they recommended us with the lamb and beef omg just delicious!! Definitely coming back. Place is nice and clean.
google avatar

Ratul E.

Yelp
The food and service was great here! We ordered the lamb kebabs, squid kebabs, bean sprouts with chives, and the dan dan noodles. Everything was super flavorful and delicious. The lamb was especially good and not gamy at all. The banchan they gave were also very good. Our server was super friendly and helped us cook the kebabs. We would definitely return!
google avatar

Brian J.

Yelp
Super delicious skewers auto rotating over wood charcoal burnt with a gas grill gives it a very clean bbq flavor. Would definitely come back again!

James Y.

Yelp
The wife and I were excited to try a new skewer place in ktown so we rushed over here the first chance we got. What a regrettable decision. The two of us sat down and ordered 10 pc. Lamb skewers and 10 pc. Beef skewers, as well as the 2 pc. Lamb ribs and the sweet and sour pork. The owner asked me if we wanted to grill it at the table or have them grill it and serve it to us, so I told him that we wanted to grill it at the table. After turning on the grill for us, he served us over cooked meat. Confused, I asked him why it was already cooked, and he responded by saying, "the meat can burn if you grill it, so we had our professional in the back grill it." So at this point I am wondering why he even asked us like we had ever had an option to begin with, and considering how overcooked the meat was, I began to wonder how old the meat they served to us was. I honestly felt like they gathered some leftover meat from some skewers and reheated it and served it to us. We also sent the lamb ribs back and asked for new ones because those were also served over cooked for some reason. The quality was hilariously bad, and we never even received our sweet and sour pork. They give you two side dishes (roasted peanuts and some bean sprouts) and a pathetic side salad which is just spring mix with a pinch of dressing. Definitely recommend if you're into being served precooked meat that was just basically reheated. Also if you enjoy being served the exact opposite of what you asked for.
google avatar

Xi C.

Yelp
only stopped by late night for their lamb kebab. because we only ordered the lamb kebab we didn't get to grill it ourselves. the lamb is solid.

Yelp
This is my first time try this place, never new here is a hidden gem in this area! I like the kebab a lot and the lamb rib here is the most delicious one. All the food are fresh and delicious, the service was very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend!

Esther Y. B.

Yelp
Fresh meat, Easy cooking, Great taste Like the mood people talking while eating Will definitely visit again!!!
google avatar

Jiehui K.

Yelp
Really good, flavourful, and authentic Chinese meat skewers - also a fuss-less cooking process since the skewers turn by themselves using the machine.

Yeon J.

Yelp
Nice and Helpful Server lady. Food quality is good. tasty. Meat marination might be little bit on a salty side but not too much. Over all 5 star experience.
google avatar

Kenna G.

Yelp
The lamb kebabs were great! Dan Dan noodles were also tasty. I've never had this type of grill before, not like typical kbbq. Overall 5 star experience. I'll be back
