The name of this place is soooooo hard to remember. It's one of those places that has the type of name where if anyone asks you where you ate, you have to give them the cross streets haha.
Anyway, if anyone lives in ktown, they probably know that the place to go get lamb skewers is over at Feng Mao, but in the recent years, what happened was they got rid of their charcoal setup and installed electrical heaters instead. And while the meat rotates on its own, it's not the same flavor and taste when you're cooking on electric as opposed to charcoal.
So I wanted to try a different place but as anyone knows, with how expensive everything is nowadays due to inflation and whatnot, visiting a new restaurant is a risk. But this one paid off.
They have the same rotating setup for the meat that Feng Mao has, but they use charcoal!!!
I've gone here twice. The first time I was really happy and this time around, I was pretty happy too. I got the lamb skewers, which I think are of high quality and extremely tasty here. In addition, I love the leeks and the flavor they exude with all of the charcoal integrated into them. I got a fried potato dish that was pretty good, but you can probably find one with less oil at a Korean place. In addition, the chicken gizzard skewers were quite flavorful and the beef ones as well. Maybe next time, I'll skip on the beef though just because of how much better the lamb ones taste.
Instead of getting one seeded dip like you do at Feng Mao, you get two here, so you get a bit of a variety. They taste pretty good and I like mixing them. It's always nice to be able to dip your skewers into a mix of cumin and other seasonings.
The service is pretty good too. The staff speaks both Chinese and Korean. The ambiance is really neat. There's an astronaut drawn on the wall that is dapping and they play a lot of kpop, mostly Blackpink, and you get free Chinese candy on the way out. Also, their soju and beer bottles are $7 too.
Every time I've gone, this place has been empty though. I think it's because more people know of Feng Mao, but I'd say this place is definitely a solid place to go and try.
