The 14 Essential Boba Tea Shops in San Francisco Right Now | Eater SF

"Bay Area powerhouse Yi Fang entered the game in 2018 and opened locations all throughout the area in no time at all, even opening in the Inner Sunset during the pandemic. Prices are a little bit higher than average here, but there are a number of customizable options (including cheese creamer as an accessory for 65 cents). Most ingredients here are organic, and mini taro balls are a recent addition to the menu." - Paolo Bicchieri

Parking: a little tough around the area during weekends. The store front is small and easy to miss if you don't pay attention. There is one bench for customers to sit while waiting for their drinks or people can sit outside the store. Inside is clean. Drink quality is as good as other locations.

I usually enjoy drinks from Yifang, but the plum green tea with sago I ordered last week had a really weird taste. It was unusually sour—almost like something was off. I’ve had plum green tea from other places and it’s never tasted like this. I’m not sure if it was a bad batch or an issue with the ingredients, but it was disappointing. Hope they can check on the quality and consistency.

Google
Best Boba place I’ve ever been! All the drinks were perfect. Highly recommended.

Google
A little shop with good drinks and a nice atmosphere. There were plenty of drinks to choose from with a good lineup of add-ons. While I'd still try some other places out in the area, if I knew I needed a good thing I would just come back here. There's plenty of variety to explore and the place is well situated on the strip.

Google
This is one of the best boba chains straight out of Taiwan that delivers quality tea drinks. While they're known for their fruit teas, I'm a milk tea girly so I always go for these options. This location fortunately offers non-dairy milk, so I went with their Brown Sugar Matcha Latte with oat milk. The drink was well made and the boba was soft, making it a party in my mouth. However, it didn't have the option to adjust the ice level, and it for sure all melted (even in winter) by the time I got back to my place. For once I wish I could have asked for more ice lol. My sister ordered a passion fruit spritzer and that was delicious as well. If you have a like allergy, be sure to ask for no lime as they use it for garnish (but it's not listed as an ingredient on the menu). Spot is definitely grab and go since there's no seating but it's clean and the staff were great.

Google
One of my all time favorite tea places! The fruit teas (their specialty) are especially refreshing and delicious. It's easy to taste how all the ingredients are fresh and good quality. They have soy milk oat milk and almond milk alternatives, a good variety of toppings (plus newly added taro pearls, delicious!), and a very nicely laid out menu with recommendations for ice and sugar levels for all the drinks. There is also a hot beverage option for many of the drinks, which is nice for a chilly afternoon (try the wintermelon lemonade hot, very soothing!) This location is also very well placed (lots of other shops and restaurants so you can walk around with your boba) and the staff is always very friendly and helpful when I visit. It's a small shop but there are several benches to sit at to wait or enjoy your drink. I recommend trying the purple rice red bean coconut drink, it's decaf, filling, and super tasty!

Matt B

Google
Really good boba, and really good tea! The boba almost has a honey taste for the Brown Sugar. ½ sweetness is good, but you can go for full sweetness.

I always go to the yifang at stonestown but when I came to this one I noticed that they have a lot more options and the area is nice to walk around. The service was fast and friendly. The place is very clean and spacious, there is one bench inside but this is not a place to hang out it is mostly to but it and walk around the area. Golden gate park is very close or if you like thrifting crossroads is across the street.

Yelp
Back one more time at the San Francisco Sunset Strip on a Spring stroll in the Inner Sunset. This is one of my favorite neighborhoods in San Francisco to enjoy drink and food. This neighborhood has expanded its food and drink options over the years. There is a diverse range of flavors from all around the world within a half mile radius. I most enjoy the fact Golden Gate Park is a few blocks away. I came here on a Spring May day to grab something refreshing to drink at Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea located on Irving street between 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue. I ordered the Mango Sago which was so refreshing. It had a juicy delicious taste and not too sweet. I will be back to try the other flavors on their menu especially during the summertime at the Sunset strip in San Francisco. Go to San Francisco's Sunset strip for the restaurants and shops which has sprang especially if you like to go eat out and go to Golden Gate Park for a place to go hang The Sunset strip in San Francisco have places with different flavors that are savory, sweet , and some with a tang and go grab something not too sweet like fruit tea from Taiwan at YiFang

Yelp
First time trying out this spot! girl wearing black top black bottom took our order, we took a long time to decide we keep changing the orders but she is patience. I can't choose the Kyoto matcha, or plain brown sugar latte, she inform us there's an option for brown sugar matcha (right in the middle)! Even made sure I was aware of nondairy milk options (which I almost forgot about myself). I got brown sugar matcha latte less sweet less ice. It was delicious, Highly recommend! The Strawberry milk also good. Great service, drinks made quickly, everyone is nice.

Yelp
A quick and refreshing stop for high quality drinks. Highly recommend their fresh taro drink and the coconut one! 30%-50% sweetness was perfect to allow those flavors come out. Very casual and almost no room to sit. It's truly a grab n go place. Service was friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Need a quick fix? Yi Fang was the perfect ending to a sushi night. I ordered the brown sugar milk tea WITH NO CAFFEINE (wait what that was an option this whole time) and I was able to sleep good at night. I ordered it hot and it was perfect for the walk home. I even had enough for breakfast the next day. Service was quick and efficient and flavor was there.

Yelp
I've visited this location several times; most recently, I was here during a weekday afternoon with my friends. I ordered their Matcha drink with boba and got my order within 10 minutes. While there is no real seating in this location, it's a nice area to walk around, and there is a giant park nearby. Their Matcha drink with Boba was just the right amount of sweetness along with their chewy boba! I've tried a handful of drinks here, with their Peach Fruit Tea being my favorite. This location never seems to disappoint, and it's one of my favorite boba spots in this area in San Francisco.

Yelp
Drinks were made well. However, I ordered online through the yelp app. I did not expect drinks to be about one dollar extra so they are passing on convenience fees straight to the customers.

Reina R.

Yelp
Always so good. I love their winter melon latte with almond jelly. Highly recommend! They're also pretty quick.

Yelp
I have been to so many boba places they always kindly put my four drinks or three drinks in cup holders or bag. I asked for a cup holder and got an attitude. I am so used to get my drinks in a cup holder or bag. Lesson learned if you are not welcome not going back.
google avatar

Lilian Z.

Yelp
8/10/24 12:54PM at YiFang on Irving Unfortunately I didn't get to try my drink at all since my cup was BROKEN; and I don't mean when it's not sealed properly and it's dripping; it was full on slit down the side of the cup! I stopped by for a boba run and got my peach green tea, left them a tip and put it in my bag. At first I thought it was condensation but a few blocks down, a passerby told me my bag was actually dripping! I looked inside and saw a pool of liquid in my bag and I ran into Andronico's to dump remnants in my bag and the drink itself in the public restroom. Washed my bag, hands, and clothes best I could and then headed home without a drink and my clothes bag and shoes wet and sticky. I understand things happen, but note to staff: check your cups please! Looks like quality control needs some working on... Had I not walked from Parkside to get my steps in, I totally would have gone back for a replacement/full refund. Unfortunately I cannot speak on their drinks since I did not try mine at all so hopefully those who do have a better experience than I did!

Yelp
There's so many options to chose from, if I come in here not craving anything in particular it's so hard to chose! I've been to their location in Berkeley several times, but it was my first time at their Sunset location. The shop is quite small with no indoor seating -- similar to the Berkeley location. This was a bit disappointing as my friend and I wanted to sit and chat, but many of the other boba shops in the area have the same layout. I ended up getting the Lychee Green Tea with boba. It was empty when we were here so it came out quickly. The drink tasted like fresh lychees (not syrupy) and even came with a full lychee in the drink. The boba was also cooked perfectly. I got 70% sweetness, which was perfect for my liking. Definitely a solid choice for when you're in the area and craving boba!

Yelp
Date: Sunday, March 10th, 2024 What: Boba Delivery Time Ordered: around 3:45pm Time Arrived: about 30 mins later How: DoorDash DoubleDash Delivered to: Outer Richmond Sun Moon Lake Black Tea / 日月潭紅茶 Less Ice, 0% No Sugar Added, Iced (Large 20oz), Pearls, Grass Jelly, Almond Jelly Price: $9.55 When ordering lunch, the hubby asked if I wanted to DoubleDash anything. Since he doesn't like boba tea and I hate paying extra fees for small orders, I decided to grab a tea. Not many places have almond jelly, so I'm glad I found Yifang. Their tea is consistent. Tea strength not as strong as I like, but better than most other spots. The boba soft and chewy. Grass jelly silky. Almond jelly creamy. I'm always very happy with my teas here. I just want a strong tea and toppings, so this fits the bill. Solid boba tea spot. One of my favs.

Yelp
It's rare for it to be nice and sunny in the sunset and when it was I was craving for something refreshing! Their signature fruit tea is always a hit and so satisfying! It wasn't busy when I went in so I was in and out less than 5 minutes! They always have some music playing so it's always a good vibe in there while you wait for your drink. Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Cute little boba shop in inner sunset. Comes out quick and many flavors. It's a solid tea shop.
google avatar

Yelp
Yi Fang on Irving Street is a cute little shop serving Japanese tea and coffee. The service was good quick and friendly but not very personalized. My Matcha was good. It was a little bit sweeter than what I prefer, but still enjoyable.
google avatar

Pauline N.

Yelp
The sago series is my go to for Yi Fang. I highly recommend getting the strawberry or the mango one! Its so delicious and they don't make their drinks too sweet here. I got 75% sweetness and it was just right! Definitely order ahead online as there tends to be a line for Yi Fang. When you order online, the drinks are ready in 10 minutes.

Yelp
Haiku: Yi Fang Taiwan Fruit Tea Refreshing fruit tea No artificial flavors Top quality teas. --- Yi Fang is famous for their gorgeous (& refreshing) Instagram-worthy fruit teas filled with slices of oranges, apples, and passion fruit seeds. It's also a bonus to learn they brew using top-quality tea leaves, no artificial flavorings, no concentrated juices, and use fresh fruit from sustainable farms. My classic order is the Mango Pomelo Sago. This reminds me of a Hong Kong style dessert that I loved eating. I prefer sago (over boba) as a topping and was excited to have it in my drink. The mango was more like a smoothie (preferred), not ice-blended. This is my all-time favorite drink. Also, a good option for kids because it doesn't contain caffeine. I look forward to trying their other flavors.

Yelp
Just had to visit Yi Fang once again to show how much I still love Taiwanese bubble tea drinks. The Yi Fang I'm visiting this year was in Inner Sunset. I have yet to visit Third Culture Bakery in the same district if I have the right time and day to do so. Yi Fang before closing time was a perfect time for when there's no huge line there. Its interior has the same size and placement as the wooden version in Washington St of Chinatown, but a bit taller. Same ice cold Uji matcha latte with soy, but with a different topping. The color of soy matcha was a bit darker than the one I had back in J-town. More tea powdery, never a problem. In powdered form, I drink the whole leaf compared to the steeping substance from the loose tea leaves. I gave bubble tea baristas my thumbs up.

Yelp
bro, gem, fast serving boba, see them make it fast and good. Once you order, they work like flash, and get in done. The taste was amazing too like speed and quality are both HIGHT
google avatar

Ritu A.

Yelp
They have the most refreshing and unique bubble tea options. The pineapple milk tea and winter melon milk tea are my favorites. This location of their's is also pretty quick in service.

Jeneanne A.

Yelp
Definitely a great place to get drinks. They're full of flavor like their Mango Pomelo Sago is one of their top sellers and I see why, so delicious! The black Sugar Pearl Matcha Latte was also delicious drink! Very friendly staff. The ambiance has a nice simple classic look. Definitely 10/10 place!

Yelp
I came here with a friend just to get a little sweet treat after a stressful week of classes. When we went in, we noticed that everything was self service. We took our orders on little kiosks. They don't take Apple Pay, which is usually fine but, I didn't have my wallet. Luckily, my friend covered me. It was a whole ordeal because the card reader was acting up. No one offered to help us figure it out. We got our drinks quickly, which is a plus! We were the only people there, so that helped! Neither of us really liked our drinks. I always get a basic milk tea when I try new places because those aren't hard to mess up. I got 100% sweetness and it wasn't sweet at all. My friend got a passionfruit tea and she said it tasted sour. She doesn't like sweet drinks, but she said that passionfruit teas typically aren't sour.

Yelp
Out of the 3 boba places in the inner sunset that I've tried, Yi Fang is the best in taste and quality. The small space is also very aesthetically pleasing, as it's very clean and modern. Definitely just a takeout spot, which is fine with me. Staff was polite and my 2 drinks took about 5 minutes to make. The lemon smashed iced green tea was filled with thinly sliced lemon and lime. Thirty percent sweetness and regular ice was perfect. I also got the original salted cream tea with added boba. Boba was tender and had a good chewy texture. The salted cream was just sweet enough and so thick and fluffy. It was like delicious creamy cloud from heaven! So good! Will be going back to try more flavors.
google avatar

Christina P.

Yelp
Was good boba! The mango pomelo sago was refreshing and creamy; the fresh taro was rich and delicious; the coffee brown latte was alright. The service was subpar. They didn't bother giving us straws. It's a small cute place to stop by though, hopefully we can spend more time there next time without being rushed out.
google avatar

Truman C.

Yelp
The Red Bean Sago Latte wasn't too sweet, perfect composition! I realized I'm not a fan of sago in my drinks though.
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
I often find it challenging to choose from the many enticing options at Yifang. My top pick is Pouchong without sugar and ai yu jelly. I generally prefer my drinks less sweet, but this time, I decided to venture into almond jelly pineapple mountain tea and the cantaloupe green tea. The pineapple mountain tea shows promise, although the 30% sugar was too sweet for my taste. The cantaloupe green tea was enjoyable, but I'd prefer it with regular ice, and 30% sugar was slightly too sweet for me. I wish they offered a 10-15% sugar option because their 30% is too much sugar for me. Overall, causal spot, quick service, ideal for grab-and-go, and limited to no seating.
google avatar

RICHARD W.

Yelp
Ordered Yakult Passionfruit Green Tea and my wife ordered Brown Sugar Pearl Latte. Nice cute place the staff very nice. Will comeback next time
google avatar

Elizabeth Y.

Yelp
I've been to the Yi Fang chain in SF twice now (first was a different location) and was a bit disappointed both times. They have high prices for pretty thin tasting tea that is a bit lacking in richness and tea flavor. The bubbles are just okay. This time, I had the brown sugar milk tea--it was quite sweet but not as tea flavored or milky as it is at other places. My friend got the wintermelon tea and also wished it was fruitier. I will probably avoid this chain in the future. The interior was cute though!
google avatar

Sharyse W.

Yelp
Honestly, you can't go wrong with Yi Fang! It's definitely one of the best boba shops in inner sunset. The drinks can get pricey with some reaching $7 for a medium, but I will say that many of their drinks use REAL FRUIT and natural flavors. There is a very large menu so it shouldn't be hard to find something that you'd like! What I ordered: Aiyu Jelly Lemon Green Tea, 50% sweet, light ice - $6.15 for Medium. The aiyu jelly is just sweet enough! I actually prefer it to lychee jelly which is sometimes too sweet. Lemon drinks here are usually a safe bet! I also really enjoy their strawberry milk and hot milk teas :) The Yi Fang Fruit Tea drink is EXTREMELY sweet even at 30% so be careful of that! Overall this place is a solid place for boba and I still have yet to work my way through their menu!
google avatar

Claire C.

Yelp
Ive only been to the Chinatown location and didn't realize they had opened a location in Inner Sunset. Very excited to see this chain expanding in SF! The shop is cute and simple with a traditional vibe, and feels like it would be recognizable anywhere. Authentic, fresh boba that's guaranteed to impress. I love the variety of flavors. I've tried the Yifang Fruit Tea and the Oolong Tea Latte (both delicious!) and I keep wanting to go back to try the rest of the menu. Fast service as well!
google avatar

Karen Y.

Yelp
Glad they opened up a location in the Inner Sunset. I like that there are non-caffeinated options here as sometimes at 3pm I really don't need anymore caffeine. Service was a bit slow as I think they only had about 2 people working and there were a lot of orders (some people had multiple drinks in one order). Ambiance was really cute. It's similar to the decor in their other locations. I will say it's definitely more of a takeout place than a place to sit and chat with friends as there is only a single bench inside. Ordered the hot Sweet Taro Sago drink. It was delicious and not too sweet. They did give me a plastic straw to drink with which made me slightly nervous but the straw didn't melt in the hot drink (thankfully).
google avatar

Rose Y.

Yelp
Tried their winter melon drink since it was a hot day. The drink is very small and has lots of ice. Also, its not sweet enough. But ill come back to try other drinks on menu since it has so many drinks to sell. And they all look good to me. The store is very clean and cute too.
google avatar

Christine F.

Yelp
Yummy! Nothing to complain about here. Many menu options. Good recommendations from the whiteboard/employees. Tried a seasonal drink and did not regret it!
google avatar

Corie L.

Yelp
I always get the same thing here and like the fact they have hot drink options. I'm such a wimp to the cold so it's always nice to get a nice hot tea from here. They also got a rewards program. Workers are super friendly and have a reasonable turnaround time from ordering your drinks.
google avatar

Nicole Y.

Yelp
One word, Yummy! The taste was exactly what I needed to experience. The service was friendly and quick.
google avatar

Kay O.

Yelp
I've been to a handful of these chains from Cupertino to Mountain View but never this one in San Francisco. I love their huge fast menu with so many options of dairy choices!! They have organic whole milk, almond milk, soy milk and milk!! As well as having all fruit drinks and all tea drinks that you can change. They also have a good assortment of ice cream smoothies! They call it something particular but I forgot. Lol I will definitely be back here again! Sorry I forgot to take pictures of our drinks, but we got the Matcha oolong red bean, pineapple green tea, and then purple red been something a rather. Each drink was very colorful and had fresh fruit or being taste to it!
google avatar

Carmina D.

Yelp
I was so stoked when they opened a location in the Inner Sunset! There's plenty of boba shops around Irving street both before and after 19th ave. But YiFang is one of my favorites due to the consistently well cooked boba and well steeped teas! It's a small shop with friendly workers. Every time I've come here, the workers have all been very pleasant. A line usually builds up here on nice sunny days but it goes by quickly because the workers are efficient. You can even order ahead and it'll make your visit even smoother. You are able to gain points per order to redeem for things like size upgrades, free toppings, or a free drink, so make sure to enter in your number so they can stamp it for you. My usual go-tos here are: - Sun Moon Lake Black Tea - Oolong Latte I recently got the Mango Sago and that was delicious! My son also liked it. Usually come here when I take a stroll around the neighborhood. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Joanna T.

Yelp
Yifang is a Taiwanese tea shop with boba teas or straight up cold & hot teas. Fruit flavors like white peach or melon or other light fruit are here. It was afternoon with a little chill in the air, I got their house Taiwanese black tea (#1) in a latte style + hot. Tasty! Another plus, Yifang is close to the SF Botanical Gardens & all the museums in Golden Gate park! Enjoying my tea at the park with the birds chirping around me.
google avatar

Kasey H.

Yelp
I've been here a few times, trying new drinks each time! This time, I got a green grape drink that was so so good and so so fun to drink. You gotta go a few times to try different drinks! There's so many choices on the menu. The staff are super patient and friendly, too.
google avatar

Allison T.

Yelp
Yifang is a solid option for teas in the inner sunset! I've tried a variety of their fruit tea drinks, and they've all been good, but I don't have a go-to drink here yet. Most recently, I got the mixed fruit tea which was pretty sweet even at 30%, but I love how they use real fruit! It was very refreshing and was a good pick-me-up after a long day. I didn't expect the passion fruit seeds, but I like passion fruit so I didn't mind but it's something to consider if you don't like the crunchiness in your drink. Overall, I always enjoy Yifang's fruit teas (have yet to try milk teas) although it can be a bit higher in price compared to other boba places considering the size.
google avatar

Sophia C.

Yelp
Idk how this place has good reviews... Yifang fruit tea 3/10 - 50% sugar, less ice - there is not tea flavor. It literally tastes like passion fruit apple water. Yakult Passionfruit Green Tea 1/10 - 50% sugar, less ice - worst drink ever - tastes bitter like the rind of a peel and had no yakult flavor at all - no tea flavor as well Lemon mountain tea 0/10 - 30% sugar, less ice - tastes like lemon water - no tea flavor Service was ok. I would never come back because all three of my drinks were terrible :( such a difference from the SoCal locations!!
google avatar

Elaine W.

Yelp
Best boba chain if you are looking for brown sugar pearl milk and milk tea drinks! Their boba is always made fresh in small batches every few hours. This location even offers "lite sweetness" option for their brown sugar pearl milk/milk teas (most other locations and boba chains have a fixed sweetness levels for specifically for their brown sugar pearl drinks). Yifang also offers a variety of other drinks ranging from fruit teas to coffee milk teas. They also have seasonal flavored drinks so make sure to come back every now and then to get the latest drinks!
google avatar

Cheri L.

Yelp
I love that this place has a huge menu eith several ootions to choose from! I still think the drinks can be a hit or miss depending on what you order, but everything has been good for the most part. They have such a cute interior. Wish they had nore indoor seating. Service was friendly and pretty quick!
google avatar

Mei Y.

Yelp
Yi Fang's boba drinks are light and delicious, perfect for refreshing any day. Caffeine fanatics will love their tea selection. My go-to is the fruit green tea, which pairs perfectly with the boba's nice chewy consistency.
google avatar

Anna Q.

Yelp
If you're looking for a quality boba place with unique drinks, yifang is your cup of tea! Not only do they serve boba, they also are known for their sago and fruit tea which is the most famous menu item. My friend and I got the red bean sago latte (30%) sweet and it was AMAZING!! The red bean was well blended with ice like a smoothie, and the sago on the bottom was a great addition. Definitely will be back to try their popular fruit teas and other sago drinks! On a Saturday afternoon the line was a bit long (15-20 min) but moved fast! There is some metered parking alongside the street. Inside of the shop was very modern, clean, and authentic looking and service was great. Adding this boba spot to my list of favorites in SF!
google avatar

Ramona B.

Yelp
The most popular drink per the staff is brown sugar pearl latte which I ordered for a friend who had never tried boba before. She absolutely enjoyed her drink. Fit myself I ordered the brown sugar pearl matcha latte. I enjoy matcha, but I don't think I am a big fan of it. Per the staff suggestion I went light on matcha, hands down one of the best boba tea I've ever had. Would definitely return. Parking here can be challenging, you could ordered the drinks on DoorDash and pick them up, or get them delivered to you. Another thing I noticed was one person would get dropped off to pick up the drinks while the driver would circle around the area.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
So of the best boba I've had in sf! So many flavor options with your classics and fun new ones! Boba was smaller than usual but chewy and yummy! Long line and took awhile to get even on a rainy day but def worth it! Bathroom was out of order which was unfortunate but would be nice when open.
google avatar

she q.

Yelp
Sooo glad that they opened one for Inner Sunset! It's a pretty small space but the folks here are awesome. Got the Fruit Tea - Green Plum Green Tea (Xin Yi green plums and natural plum juice from Taiwan stirred with Pouchong Green Tea to bring out the classic Taiwanese earthly plum flavor) with 15% sweet and less ice. They normally recommend 30% sweet, but when we were going to go with 0% the staff mentioned it will be too tart so they were able to accommodate to 15% instead. This is great customer service in my book. Will def be back to try other drinks on the menu.

Yelp
We ordered ~50 drinks from Yifang for an event close by. William and Jackie were really on top of it! They had great recommendations ready for what types of drinks we could select for variety. They responded very quickly and were easy to communicate with in the days leading up to the event, and delivered our drinks on time and without any hiccups. Our event attendees loved their drinks and had a great experience! Boba in SF is not cheap, but they were definitely more reasonable than Boba Guys (which would have had more expensive delivery fees and charged a fee for needing boxes to pack the drinks...?). We also considered Little Sweet, Happy Lemon, and Milk Tea Lab, and in the end Yifang provided the best balance of price and taste.
