The 23 Best Turkish Restaurants In London - London - The Infatuation

"Satisfying Islington families since the mid-2000s, this comfortable ocakbaşı grill does the simple things well. Its bungalow-ish room is all shades of brown and big tables of six and, on an average Saturday when Arsenal is playing, the room is a sea of red and white shirts with golden accents—be it a glistening grilled chicken wing or a shimmering bottle of Efes. An order of crispy-edged lamb ribs or piles of buttery rice never disappoint." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, jake missing

Yildiz Restaurant - Review - Highbury - London - The Infatuation

"Pretty much every area in London has a Turkish restaurant that locals, newbies, and hangry wanderers rely upon, and Yildiz is Highbury’s. Calming Arsenal fans and satisfying Islington families since the mid-2000s, this comfortable ocakbaşı grill does the simple things well. Its bungalow-ish room is all about shades of brown and big tables of six and, on an average Saturday when Arsenal is playing, the room is a sea of red and white shirts with golden accents—be it a glistening grilled chicken wing or a shimmering bottle of Efes. All the classics are done well and an order of crispy-edged lamb ribs or piles of buttery rice never disappoint. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Jake Missing

Delicious food that we discovered accidentally just waking by the road the first day of our visit to London. We loved this place s9 very much that we couldn't leave the city without stopping by to enjoy their flavors and wonderful service. Highly recommended. We definitely will be back next time in the city. Thank you!

The best lamb rips and lamp chops one can ask for in London. This is our fifth visit in 3 months, which we spend 1 hour to get here. Must try!!

Google
Excellent food at Yildiz and highly recommend! We enjoyed the lamb kofta, the Yildiz special salad, and the calamari and we were not expecting the amount of beautifully presented food including such colourful, stunning salads. The koftas/kebabs come with a bowl of delicious fresh pittas, a superb side salad with marinated onions and pickled red cabbage, and some rice. The calamari was juicy and fresh, and the Yildiz salad was enormous with really juicy delicious cubes of feta. It exceeded all expectations and was thoroughly delicious (and so filling). The menu is extensive, and caters really well to vegetarians & vegans, and all the allergens are flagged on the menu (such as molluscs or gluten). The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu.

Family owned business, decor is simple and quaint designed. The customer Service was definitely 10/10 They were quick to take our orders and were very accommodating to all our needs. I ordered the chefs special lamb ribs, I opted for the chips instead of rice, this was recommended by my freind. one taste of it I was amazed how delicious it was, the flavour of it up until now is still on my mind I can never forget. Now am thier regular customer!

If you want to experience real Turkish kebab, forget all the kebab shops in Haringay or other places! Unfortunately, I discovered Yildiz Restaurant too late. I can easily say that it is the only restaurant in the UK where you can get the same taste and flavour as if you were eating in Turkey. The two young chefs you will see at the grill will prepare a feast for your mouth in one word. A smiling, fast, team, a spotlessly clean place, Once you try it, you will never be able to give it up again. Again, I would like to thank the team who gave us a feast last night.❤️

Omg why aren’t you open every day!!!!! It’s cruel! Your lamb chops are like crack and I’m addicted - I go so often to order on deliveroo and then find you are closed and how am I meant to get my lamb fix?? Honestly the best seasoned and cooked meat/turkish around …. Ever since I’ve discovered this place I’ve not been able to stop ordering from there!

Yelp
Holy wow! I got so lucky when my buddy and I popped into this place for lunch last week. We were going on the Emirates Stadium tour in an hour and needed a bite before then. Our options were pretty limited, but Yildiz was open and we decided to give it a shot. Neither of us was at all disappointed. I had the chicken kebabs while my buddy went with minced lamb. Both came with rice, bread, salad, onions, and all sorts of goodness. They grill the meats over charcoal right in the front of the store, so you know it's being done fresh. My friend let me try his lamb too, and it definitely had some spice to it, but was very delicious. The service was pretty quick, though we were the only ones there at the time. You just have to be patient while they grill your meats. And price wise it was very reasonable for lunch. All in all, this was one of the best meals we had in London. If I'm ever heading back to the neighborhood (which would almost certainly be for an Arsenal match), I'll be sure to stop in again.

Yelp
Yildiz is by no means the only Anatolian Restaurant in the Stokey / Finsbury / Highbury triangle but I think it might be the best all-rounder. Combines good value, efficient service, varied cuts of fresh meats (Haven't tried the (ram's?) testes yet!) Service is always friendly bordering on jovial/cheeky. Fairly ordinary in terms of decor and atmosphere, but good for honest unpretentious eats and a great takeaway number, just give them 15min, one mains order and a side can easily feed two. The best dishes all pass over a seemingly eternal charcoal fire. Deffinately have the lamb ribs, they pack flavour. Get a skewer of kidney and onion to go with. mmm. If you have an intestinal worm that needs to be fed, have the impossibly heavy Iskender Kebab.

Yelp
Yildiz is a classic local restaurant; the fact that it does large cheap portions of Turkish food makes it ever better. Tucked away up in Arsenal it is probably not the kind of place I would go out of my way to visit but I have a friend who lives up the road and we regularly find ourselves in her tucking into some great Turkish food. are the chops - succulent, perfectly cooked and addictive

Yelp
We want to this place several times during the last 6 years we live in the area. They changed management but th food quality has been constantly good. I can't rate to the top as during the couple of times we went over the winter season the place was uncomfortably chilly. Anyway, good quality for value and the usual several side dishes.

Yelp
Though I don't think Yildiz qualifies as a "cheap eat" it is certainly a great treat and definitely hits the spot when you're craving meat! (Whoa didn't mean to rhyme.) Every appetizer I've had here definitely does its job... appetizes you for your entree! The service is usually fast, but some dishes do take some patience since the meat is grilled over real charcoal. Definitely adds some real barbeque flavor!

Yelp
Yildiz is a no-nonsense okacbasi restaurant, and while it's probably not the sort of place you'd go for a first date (unless your date is a particular fan of finely grilled meats!), it is good value and one of my favourite places to eat in north London. The menu includes a selection of typical mezze starters, including excellent hoe-made hummus, which are all good, but really it's all about the meat, expertly grilled over charcoal. My personal favourite is the deliciously spicy, garlic-loaded lamb beyti, but the lamb ribs, chops and marinated chicken and lamb kofte are all superb. Prices have crept up over the years I've been going here, and the main dishes may not initially seem all that cheap (especially the chops at £15+), however, the portions are big, and they all come with a basket of warm flat bread heated on the grill, a side of rice and a selection of fantastic tasty salads, so you really don't need anything else. In fact, I often can't eat everything and get my left overs bagged up to take home. As a result, a decent feed for two, with couple of bottles of Efes each is unlikely to come to much more than £40. Service is usually cheery and quick, and they do take-outs, although you may have to wait a while as the grilling just can't be rushed. The atmosphere can be fairly lively (especially on a Saturday night if Arsenal are at home), but that's all part of the charm.

Yelp
This is a fantastic little restaurant. Reasonably priced, great quality food and friendly staff. If you haven't been here you don't know what you are missing. Apart from the lamb ribs I recommend the Iskender Kebab, which is also delicious. And watch out for the free starters, especially the grilled onions with pomegranate sauce.

Yelp
Either I've not ordered the correct dishes or the other reviewers have not visited the many Turkish restaurants a bit further down in the Dalston area. I suspect it's the latter. I tried Yildiz three times. The lamb shish, chicken shish, and lamb kofte were all overpriced, greasy, and bland. (£9.50 for kofte?!) Each time I went because (a) I had no other options (e.g., Easter Monday), and (b) I was sincerely hoping I would not have to journey 2 miles south for decent Turkish grill (e.g., Umut 2000 or just about anything on Dalston Kingsland Rd). I really wanted to like this joint! Oh well. I'll concede on the service--it *was* quick and friendly.

Yelp
Having popped in tonight I had the vegetarian kebab. £11.50 for 4x 1" aubergine slices, some red pepper and mushrooms. This isn't the West End you know ! When you look at one pre-cooked vegetable kebab, it is hard to see the value ! Rather plain, over priced totally and very bland. Is this one of these places that is called a 'clip joint' ? I think so. People say its the best around. Maybe because theres not alot of choice. It is a pity places like this that were once good and rated drop their standards and go for the fat buck. Another place like this is The Kebab Kid outside Parsons Green which was once AWESOME and now is surviving on it's past reputation. You can see by the dates on the reviews that it's lost it touch. Save your money.
