Best Affordable Sushi in NYC

"The sushi menu is vast and inexpensive at the East Village’s Yo Sushi, with assortments of nigiri and maki rolls running between $18 and $24. There are invented and inherited maki rolls galore, and even a section of seven warm tempura rolls, making us wonder how they do so much. Complete Japanese kitchen available, with a modest amount of seating in the very plain dining room." - Robert Sietsema

Ive been here a hand full of times because its really close to my house . But every other visit , its always hot and cold . One visit would be amazing service , waitress is nice and helpful and the food is yum . Then the next visit , the waitress servicing us will have a stank attitude and the food will be super mediocre . Ordered my son a Chicken Katsu plate and his plate had legit a whole 8 pieces .. it was really disappointing . This last time , I thought i would change it up & I ordered pick up , almost $75.00 worth of food . when I get home , I was VERY disappointed . Ordered 2 Bento Boxes , Two Rolls & Shrimp Tempura . Open the Tempura box to see a WHOLE palm sized of rice given with the meal ? I was really disappointed! The bento boxes ... we ordered Chicken katsu & Salmon Teriyaki ...... pictures show how ridiculously paper thin the chicken was .... The prices are nice which is what got me ... but the food quality and quanity is definitely not becoming worth it . I really wanted to love this place but after so many hot and cold trips eating inside and the food just getting worse and worse in quality - i won't be eating there anymore . it makes me sad because I want to support this small business but it's super hard to do so when the good is just not up to par . =[

Food not fresh!!! See attached pictures. The soft-shell crab is fishy and not eatable. The unagi taste off.

My son and I decided to get a quick bite to before going grocery shopping. We spotted Yo Sushi and said "let's give it a try". Man were we surprised at the quality, the service, and especially the prices. With all of the other sushi places increasing their prices we were surprised to see how reasonable the prices were. The food was exceptional and the staff was really nice. We're definitely coming back when we're in the area.

Google
This is a cute, casual, and affordable sushi place. The sushi is fresh and tasty and the staff is very friendly. I prefer the simpler rolls like salmon avocado. This is a perfect local sushi place!

Google
This place has a HUGE selection of rolls! Probably the largest selection I have ever seen. The other day I had a chirashi bowl and some fried oysters. The quality was just okay and with a higher price point - it’s hard to justify the value. With that, I’d say this place is great for a variety of unique and fun rolls if you’re in the mood for that! Great choice for rolls to-go or delivery!

Google
Eating here was such a pleasure! They have so many options and there are pictures all around the place so you can get an idea of what to order. We ordered sashimi, makis and tempura and all was fresh and tasty. The place is clean and the guy who attended us (I didn’t ask for his name 😢) was super kind. We will be back for sure.

Google
My family and I were ecstatic with both the service and food at Yo Sushi in Alameda. We came with a party of 14 which we originally were told needed a special reservation in order to properly serve us. However, the server (I believe her name was Leiloni) readied a table for us swiftly. We were given some advice on their best sellers and lunch deals and our food came out fast and super fresh! I would like to personally thank the staff and cooks at Yo Sushi for taking care of us despite our hectic walk-in party of 14!

Google
The food at YoSushi is delicious! Mama bear had Agadashi tofu, I had gyoza, and for our entrees we had a sashimi bento box and a bowl of spicy ramen. We ate like royalty, met the kindest, sweetest server, and walked back to our car completely full for only $55. Amazing spot, great vibes. Huge value. We're definitely coming back soon!

Yelp
This is a pretty cool sushi restaurant with a huge sushi roll menu. The largest I have ever seen IMHO. Its location though seems a little isolated and business seems to be slow for the lunch hour even though service was pretty fast and professional. Parking is more than ample. We ordered a poke bowl, miso soup, Tataki sashimi appetizer, edamame, a couple of maki rolls (I forgot what was ordered) and a kani sunomono appetizer. The restaurant itself was fairly simple with lots of picture of the maki rolls on the wall. I think it is a nice restaurant to visit at least once. The only item we ordered that was subpar was the miso soup which is normally true for many Japanese restaurants.

Yelp
Maaaybe a 3.5. I visited Yo Sushi for a family lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We arrived around the time that they opened so we were able to find seating pretty quickly and parking was no problem with their large lot in the plaza. It looks like they're mostly takeout but they did have some folks who were dining in. As our meal went on, they quickly filled with the lunch time rush. The one staff who was working the front/cashier was able to take care of everyone with no problem and service was pretty quick overall. My group of 7 dined in so they put some tables together for us and even took our order at the table. Not sure if that's the norm as they have a sign above their cashier that says "order here". Food wise, my bento box was okay. I went with the two item combo for $17 and got tempura and chicken katsu. The tempura was good - came with 5 pcs veggies and 1 pc shrimp. Solid, but not the best I've had. I didn't really like the katsu as much. It was thinner than I've had at other restaurants, with less meat. It was overall pretty dry and the katsu sauce was more sour than I expected so dipping in that didn't help. My family seemed to enjoy their meals though so if I were to return, I'll probably go for their teriyaki instead.

Yelp
Quick Quality Sushi 5/5 Stars This is my go-to sushi place for take-out. I call in my order and they have it ready in 15 mins or less. I order their sushi sashimi combo almost weekly. I definitely pick this up when I am headed to the airport to enjoy it while I wait for my flight. I ordered this combo at least 50 times and it has never failed. The quality of the fish has always been great and everything tasted fresh. It never disappoints!!!

Yelp
Maybe it's because we went an hour before closing, but my boyfriend got a piece of warm, sticky sashimi. He was grossed out and didn't finish his meal. While I didn't have the same experience, the tuna sashimi didn't taste of the best quality. The spicy tuna roll was ok though. Needless to say we won't be going back - our combos were not worth the money because the quality of the sashimi was bad.

Yelp
Not bad not bad. We were hungry after some ding few hours at the park and the beach and this was place was one of the very few open after 3pm and close to where we were so we gave it a try. Very casual place, family friendly and also budget friendly. We ordered a bunch of rolls and a cold sake. Our 5 year old had a blast enjoying different rolls :) Service was friendly and relatively fast. Kudos!

Yelp
Beef teriyaki, sure more like gross beef jerky. Don't waste your money here it's not great. Gyoza had a sweet type juice style dipping sauce, not the traditional kind that tastes wonderful. Hard future PASS

Yelp
I came in solo and it was my first time there. Was seated quickly by a tall gentleman. There was a young lady at the register. It wasn't too busy but it wasn't slow either. I decided on food and pushed my menu away from me, waiting for someone to take my order. About 5 - 10 mins went by and the same young lady is still at the register and didn't give me any acknowledgment. I ended up ordering with her at the register, at that point i just wanted to eat so I can leave. Not once did anyone came by my table to check on things. And I witnessed and over heard the employees taking other customers order at their table. Again, I waited for some acknowledgment, and got nothing. I asked for a Togo box and checked out at the register. The server(s) didn't deserve a tip in my opinion. Most likely won't dine in again. But the food is good. Service really sucked @ss!

Yelp
We found Yo Sushi on a whim when searching for food allergy safe sushi. We are so glad we found Yo Sushi and their amazing staff and service. We have come to them for quick lunches and long lunches and they have been great at accommodating gluten-free and shellfish allergies and even with catering they make sure our staff all have options. It's a simple, quick service restaurant that offers great eats at affordable prices. Their catering is done fantastically and they accommodate special allergy needs and are simply amazing. Can't rave enough.

Yelp
Was in Alameda for business and had to stop in to one of my fav sushi spots while there. Yo sushi is a simple, counter service sushi joint, with a huge menu to satisfy every sushi fan's tastes. What we had: Alien Brain - spicy tuna wrapped in avocado with spicy mayo sauce on top Lemon Salmon roll Salmon teriyaki lunch special The verdict: Alien brain- well this is one of my fav things here, so I have to get it every time! Was delish as usual! Lemon Salmon Roll- simple and yummy! Chicken Teriyaki lunch special- california roll was good, chicken was a bit dry. If you are looking for a no frills sushi spot with good prices, and a chill vibe- give Yo sushi a try!!

Yelp
The Awesome rolling had was soooo good. They taste fresh ingredients. The staff is so polite . Good customer service!

Yelp
I come here frequently as I like the rolls they offer for a decent price. The food isn't always consistent. Some days I like my rolls better than others. But I keep coming back because it's overall a solid sushi spot with quick service that scratches the itch for sushi.

Yelp
If you like waiting for more than 30 minutes for 2 orders of sushi. Get overcharged. Then this place is for you. The quality of the food has come down a lot. Came in at 13H00, after waiting more than 30 minutes for 20 or so rolls is not ideal. I was not told the tea was additional and we didn't even took a sip. I burned my pinky, I was not given a warning. Pot was collected together with elastic bands and the teapot kept leaking. Look for photo of leak. Nothing was given for the waiting or compensation for the wait. 35 minutes after I decided to take my food to go and for some reason it was additional 15-20 minutes. When I get to the car to eat both rolls are together after asking not to put them together. One of the rolls was made really hasty therefore holding no shape with its bad quality. My sushi was cold after it's supposed to be a heated/warm item. Will not come back. Nice decor.

Yelp
Food good service good ambience good everything spectacular I love visiting this place

Yelp
Came on a Sunday for lunch, there was a moderate amount of people and we got seated quickly. Plenty of seating inside. Can only speak about the sushi and sashimi, but everything was fresh, tasty, and very well priced for sushi in the bay area! Definitely coming back again for their deals. They had a very diverse menu. Also side note - good, savory, hit the spot, miso soup :) Food did take a little while to come, but it looked like a mom and pop shop with only the mom and one other working.

Yelp
Eating delivery sushi from here made me super sick. I woke up in the middle of the night from stabbing stomach pains, and spent the whole next day miserable in bed recovering. I got a Chirashi bowl delivered, and at least half the pieces in it were... suspect. Not fishy tasting necessarily, but the sushi had a texture that fish shouldn't have. Some of the pieces were stretchy and gummy. Others were tough and chewy. I ate half and tossed the other half because it was so unappetizing. I should have thrown all of it away, because getting food poisoning wasn't worth it. Not recommended.

Yelp
I can't believe I've lived in the neighborhood for so long and never tried this spot. The food is delicious! Yelp
The place has a large selection of rolls ! Probably t he largest selection I have seen compared to other alameda sushi spots. With that, I have to say this place is great for a variety of unique and fun rolls if you're in the mood f or that! Everything was fresh and prices range from $12-20 which isn't bad for 2023 prices. I was able to order the lunch bento on a Weekend which is a plus . The service was quick ! Considering there was only 1 waitress covering all tables when I was there. There are tables inside and outside the restaurant. I highly recommended this place.

Yelp
The fish here is fresh, and they have excellent combination meals. We usually time our visits to be able to get the $12 lunch special, which happens only from 11am to 3:30pm on Monday - Friday. This is a quiet place. You will always get a seat. You order at the counter and then they bring you your food at your table. So its pretty casual. Not a date spot, more of a lunch spot for the workers in Marina Village's office building. One person in our party had a fish allergy. They ordered gyoza and either the gyoza or the dipping sauce had undisclosed fish in it. I had to dock a star for this. Parking is ample right out front. This place sits in a strip mall.

Yelp
Love the staff, the food and the atmosphere. I always ask for cherry blossom with Salmon instead of tuna, so good!

Yelp
Yo Sushi was a total find. I was in Alameda for a few hours, and super hungry, and wanted to find something tasty. Yo is located in a shopping center, and by most accounts, probably a place that most people would just ignore and drive by. It's a fairly small location, and the sushi offerings are fairly extensive for such a small place. First off, I will say that the food was good, and perhaps it's considered good in the area, but it wasn't outstanding. I found them to be fairly pricey especially during lunch, when one might expect prices to be a tad bit less than dinner prices. I noticed that they were doing a lot of to go orders, and not much dine in service. The appetizer that I ordered was supposed to be wontons. We all envision things differently, but without pictures on the menu, I really thought I was getting something different than what I actually arrived at the table. Ironically, would arrive was better than what I expected, and I was super excited to enjoy it. The wonton cups were filled with a combination of seafood, and the crab was pretty tasty. I will say that I love the fact that it wasn't the seafood salad that was heavy mayonnaise. It did lack some seasoning, but I appreciated the light wonton filled with yummy fish. Much to their credit, the sushi roll which was a basic cherry blossom, was much larger than I normally find, it definitely was a pleasant surprise, and the roles were filled more with cream cheese, but the salmon absolutely was fresh. All in all, the food was good, the customer service was super spotty, and frankly it felt like they really did not want people dining in. Super pricey for lunch, but it's good food and there's not a lot in the area.

Yelp
I usually love Yo- sushi. They have decent sushi at decent prices but today I was sort of grossed out. I ordered my usual Giant Roll (shrimp tempura, cucumber, with white tuna on top with green onions). Instead of being one nice piece of fresh tuna there were several tiny pieces that had, what looked like skin on the bottom which had been partially cooked. It seemed like they just stuck leftover end pieces of tuna in the roll. Super disappointed. Quality was definitely lacking.

Yelp
Delicious sashimi! Always fresh and tasty with ample portions. I come here almost every week. The service is always fast and courteous. No frills here, just great fish.

Mark W.

Yelp
Very chill place to sit and have a quick lunch. Huge selection of rolls with a picture menu and they actually list all the ingredients.
google avatar

Yelp
Did a takeout lunch from Yo Sushi and overall, it was a positive experience. The gyoza were deep fried and had a savory meat and veggie filling with a standard light soy-based dipping sauce. All of the rolls included fresh tasting fish and vegetables, and they were carefully presented. The lemon salmon roll was one of our favorites combining salmon and thinly sliced lemon over California roll. The spicy tuna roll was seasoned well but could have been spicier for our taste. The cherry blossom roll also included flavorful tuna, and the negi-hama roll had succulent hamachi. The rice quality was 3.5 and the service miss was not including any soy sauce, utensils or napkins. However, we look forward to trying them again.

Yelp
Consistently delivers good quality sushi at affordable prices. Portions are generous too. Not a fan of the teriyaki meals but the rolls are great.

Yelp
9/30/21 Don't mistake this place as the "Yo! Sushi" from the UK which had 5 restaurants on the East Coast in the US, but are now all closed. This was our favorite sushi place in the past when they opened in 2013. We met the young owners, and I believe they just had their first child. The kid was so cute, and always playing in the back near the restroom. I am not sure of their business model. I am led to believe they are an extended family business...? And that they have 5-7 locations. Here are some of their other locations and the year they opened: Fairfield 2006 Vallejo 2009 Martinez 2012 We discovered this place in Albany (opened 2016), when we were both looking at the same location for Real Estate. Quality/Quantity - Good and good portions for the price Atmosphere - Good and clean Service - Quick, friendly. Owners (Kevin 2013) were not here today. Restrooms are clean and organized. You have to respect an owner that snakes their own plumbing (see picture)! Price - Reasonable Owner Suggestion - I remember you were so proud of your 4+ star yelp ratings when you first opened. You guys are still well respected in the community and am sure you will get back to your 4+ star ratings again.

Yelp
First time here, Thanks Phil A for the check-in yesterday. Crystal assisted me and I ordered a Lion King Roll, requested it well done and OMG, sooooo delicious. I also ordered CA Roll and Tempura roll. I requested light rice for all rolls and that was actually the case for the Lion King, too much rice in CA roll and Tempura was okay on the rice tip. I enjoyed each of the rolls, again Lion King is my favorite and I completely loved the flavors and surely appreciated the price. I will most definitely return, I've already mentioned this spot to Mom and she's ready to go. Thanks for being so polite Crystal, I'll see you again soon!

Yelp
This place sparked my love of sushi. Before here, I had never really tried sushi before and had no idea there were so many variations of rolls. The Dragon Roll was my favorite and has become a weekly must have since my visit.

Yelp
Always a hit for me! Got the Yo Shashimi Combo, as it comes with 4 types of fish, a bowl of rice and a bowl of miso soup. This isn't my first time going there, as the service is always good and food is always on point. I was craving sushi and this was super good. They also sell Korean ice cream - specifically Melona banana and strawberry!

Yelp
Food is good but not great. Miso soup is really not very tasty. Service is fast and friendly and the price is on the reasonable side.
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
We've lived in the Bronze Coast since 2009 and despite the sushi spots around our area, we still make the drive to Marina Village to get our sushi fix for a decent price. Staff has rotated over the years. But it's still a perfect hole in the wall sushi place we can call home. The food is fine, the waitstaff is usually on point and polite, and the price is reasonable. I go with the wife and kids and we stay with the usual order, occasionally mixing it up a bit (not by much). Chicken Katsu Edamame Miso soup x 2 Tempura roll Spider Lemon salmon Combo tempura (comes with rice) We come back because it's casual and consistent. Food would go 4, but the memories I have with my family bumps to 5.

Yelp
great place , customers service is awesome . I would recommend it , the food is amazing and the prices are good as well

Yelp
SASHIMI- delicious sashimi from Yo Sushi. I always get the salmon and yellowtail . Yo Sushi has always been my go to spot they always serve fresh fresh fish. We ordered by phone and the order was ready in ten minutes . We walked in and they are following all Covid protocols with hand sanitizer and social distancing! Customer service is great and they really are consistent. Highly recommend them

Yelp
Ordered the bento box and at first I thought they forgot to put my Saba in there it was so small..for the price get a bento box somewhere else, definitely not worth it.

Yelp
On Thursday, Aug 20th, I felt like having something different for lunch. I skimmed thru the Yelp reviews, and what could I get delivered fast in Alameda. The answer is......Sushi. Yes, I know......takeout Sushi is not how you're supposed to enjoy this delicacy. But Covid-19 has changed things. Restaurants need to survive, Yelpers gotta eat, and Doordash keeps making offers. So I place an order at 11am, and it arrived in 30 mins. Good job! I'm no expert on sushi, and I actually don't eat it too much anymore. So I just ordered what I like...... Dragon, California, and Tempura Rolls My takeout order arrived in 2 containers. The presentation was nice and neat. It showed someone cared to serve quality food. I liked it, they were good. I actually might order again, since they make it so easy to place an order. Enjoy!

Yelp
*** YO SUSHI IS OPEN *** Elevating my 3-star review from 6 years ago to 4 stars mainly for the variety of sushi rolls....nothing fancy or authentic about this place, but consider it high-end, fast food sushi. Prices very reasonable with a variety of options...picture and names of the rolls posted on the wall for ease of ordering. Definitely a regular for lunch as it's convenient and quick: = DRAGON ROLL - shrimp tempura, cucumber, avocado, topped with unagi = UNA TEN (similar to a dragon roll) - without the avocado and cucumber = POKI ROLL with seaweed salad = LION KING - salmon, mayo and torched...when i first visited they were sloppy with missing the pin bones from the salmon but way improved now Basically, I like any roll without that imitation 'crab meat'...never been a fan...but of course the coworkers love it and get the Californian Roll to Yo Nacho which is crab salad, dollop of spicy tuna on a fried wonton skin. Hmmm...yeah a fave for them! Yo Sushi also offers appetizers and bentos which are a hit or miss for me so I stick with the rolls. Located in the Lucky's shopping center to the left after exiting the Webster Tube...plenty of lot parking and set up for take out only.

Yelp
Solid choice for a dizzying array of sushi rolls, generous sashimi, and other delicious Japanese fare. I'm mostly a takeout customer, which is tricky business here on Yelp due to Yelp's deceptive pricing model. Select takeout on Yelp and it says "no fees." OK, sure. But then you're steered to a menu where the prices are more than 20% higher compared to Yo Sushi's Website or ordering over the phone. That's just wrong, and Yo Sushi's complacency in these shenanigans keeps them out of 5-star territory. This isn't to say that the convenience of staying on Yelp isn't worth something (though something less than 20% to be sure). It's just offensive to be tricked into thinking they're offering something for free when they're really not.

Yelp
Used to love Yo Sushi. Ordered the Deluxe Sushi combo and the sushi is so thin it's almost see through. 3mm thickness. And found a fish bone in the hamachi (sigh).

Yelp
We went for lunch on a Sunday. It wasn't too crowded and there were plenty of seats. The wakame udon was the perfect size for me. I was full but didn't feel stuffed. Very happy.

Yelp
Goal: try every sushi place in alameda with my son in a structured and analytical way. Same order, same criteria. Order Template: Miso soup Sake nigiri Cali roll (real crab if possible) Hamachi Maki Dragon roll Open slot for special/recommendation Criteria: Food of course Service Friendly to kids Price ------- Miso was good, no issues not special or remarkable but good. Cali was fine. Hamachi maki was very good as was the nigiri sake. Dragon roll was good. Their Rec was monkey roll which had a weird sweetness to it. Nothing wrong was fine. They also had Asian ice creams (Korean?) which were super fun and unique. Overall food was well above average. So far so good! Service - we did the walk up and order. It came out quickly. It's not a super fancy place but clean. Typical for the area in the marina village. Friendly to kids, sure. Price was very affordable. I guess it really depends what you are looking for. Pick up or a less expensive option that checks all the boxes. SOLID. The type of place you can every Wednesday and know it'll always be good. Wish I could do 4.5 stars. Recommend!

Yelp
To be quite honest, I was a bit skeptical about coming here. I am a bit judge-y when it comes to the name of the restaurant and the fact that the photos appear to be walls of what the sushi rolls look like. But I WAS craving sushi. My boyfriend and I decided to share sushi rolls, rather than get any of the noodle or bento box options. Between the two of us, we shared five rolls. The restaurant wasn't very busy, as they were less than an hour from closing, and I was delighted when the rolls were presented on a very nice sushi boat. Each roll looked and tasted distinctly different (other than these two rolls, which we didn't quite remember). The fish was pretty good quality and fresh. The servers were very sweet and allowed us to take our time. All-in-all, it was a great spot and I would definitely like to come again.

Melissa V.

Yelp
Just ok. It felt far more like an American sushi menu, executed by Americans. There were a ton of fried or baked rolls, and tempura rolls. We'd have liked to have more actual fish options.

Elian R.

Yelp
Such a horrible and unfriendly service, i came in needed to use the bathroom urgently, they were trying to make me order first instead of letting me go in to use it, then i was about to order something but they only wanted cash, super inconvenient they just told me to go somewhere else wouldn't recommend a place like this.

Jasmine W.

Yelp
Been going here for years, will always love getting food from here. One of the main reasons why I like picking this place over the several Japanese restaurants in Alameda is because of the extensive menu. I do appreciate having an abundance of options. While some of the classic rolls are good, the creativity and selection is what makes this place the clear winner for me. Yesterday, I went and the waitress we had was great and super nice. She gave great recommendations and knew the menu well enough to pick out my friend's new favorite roll. Ambiance wise this place has always stayed the cute and small sushi shop with and happy and welcoming environment. If you have a guest who loves sushi and want something new and interesting definitely bring them here.

Yelp
Ended up here because we needed a place with a parking lot to exchange large objects between vehicles. It was a pleasant surprise. Excellent quality and variety, low prices and friendly staff. I'd go back even without the parking lot.

Minal G.

Yelp
I got Lion king and miso soup both were amazing. I have been regular customer here. Totally recommend it

Yelp
Food and service is always excellent. It's my go-to place when I want great food. Servers always charming and efficient and food looks as good as it tastes. Thanks!
