LE PONT DE CIEL

"To mark its half-century anniversary, LE PONT DE CIEL broke new ground, converting to a ‘counter French’ format. The open kitchen buzzes with activity as cooks and serving staff attend customers. The key to the fare here is cooking with firewood. Vegetables are roasted, fish smoked, meat wrapped in flame. The name means ‘bridge across the sky’, reflecting the chef’s desire to foster a culture that connects a relaxing time with delicious cuisine." - Michelin Inspector

I'm not sure the source of the negative reviews but my experience at this clinic has been great. The reception staff is as expected in Japanese clinics – polite and efficient. The doctor is very kind, patient, and humble. Tests like urinalysis and ultrasound are done there in the office and explained clearly. The doctor's English and knowledge are excellent. I also saw he has the same type of congenial rapport with Japanese patients. I haven't been charged anything extra (I'm an expat resident and I speak reasonable Japanese). I'd suggest you clarify this upfront if you have any concerns.

I just had a medical visit booked by my travel insurance company. Everything was covered by them so I can't say if it is an affordable clinic or not. Probably there are cheaper options out there but I was very satisfied with the thorough examination and doctor's expertise. I felt heard and that my health was in good hands. We had a discussion about different drugs between Japan and Europe to make sure the treatment was known and safe for me and I received my medications right after the visit. If you have a sudden infection or symptoms while you travel to Osaka, I suggest asking your travel insurance company to schedule an appointment here. The staff at the front was ok with some English but it is always polite and effective to prepare some japanese phrases and have a translator ready to make their work easier. Thank you for taking good care of me and reassuring me during my presence in Japan.

I can only express my gratitude to Dr Tanaka and his staff. I walked into their clinic having had some sort of food poisoning or bug major stomach bug, and 48 hrs of diarrhea and pain. The staff were very nice and they were thorough. Dr Tanaka was straight to the point and gave me an IV for my dehydration and medicine as needed. I immediately felt better within the hour as the drip was taking effect, even though I know the major effect will take place within 24 hrs. They arranged all my medications and explained what I needed to take and in what way. And they kept checking on me every 5 to 10 mins while the drip was working. Gave me the energy to make it to the Osaka Expo 2025 the next day. I can't thank them enough and I can't recommend them enough.

Many thanks for your warm assurance. Wife very painful back pain erupted this morning due to kidney stone issue re-surfaced. Panic and thought had to go for ops. Found the clinic on google map and read user feedback - about UT issue. Excellent service. Surprised they have ultrasound machine. Doctor quickly diagnose the kidney stone issue causing the pain and that it has drop to the exit and should come out soon. No ops needed but gave jab, pill and pellet (more effective pain killer) Boy … was I relieved. I still have 7 more days in Japan out of 22 days trip.

Dr. Tanaka and the team are doing a great job. Many of the negative reviews (in my opinion) come from a misunderstanding of Japan and the Japanese medical system. As a resident of Japan for over 10 years this was one of the best medical experiences of my life and helped me in an extremely difficult and urgent situation.

I went here while on vacation in Osaka to treat a UTI. I was a bit apprehensive after reading the reviews but it turned out to be a great experience. I was in and out in under 30 minutes. I paid JP¥32500 which included the consultation, urine test and antibiotics. Overall it was a great experience, communicating in English was easy and everyone was very kind and professional.

I did not personally like their service. I have gone to different clinics in the area that were better at helping me, handled my situation more professionally, and were quick to assist. They were overall nice, but they failed to communicate their policy on what type of person they are willing to assist. They were very willing to help when I spoke to them in Japanese, but when I admitted that my reading ability was lacking since I was not born and raised here, there seemed to be an issue from their side that prevented them from assisting me. My husband is obviously not Asian, he did mention he couldn’t get their attention either, but I think they just didn’t see the tall bearded foreigner in their small and nearly empty lobby. They were in the end unable to help us and told us we had to leave, I’m sure if we went back and could speak in only Japanese they could clear up the misunderstanding, but without it they are unable to assist you! Nice people though.

Misdiagnosed and lied to. Sent here by my hotel for pain in calf after long flight. Hotel's concierge made appt and said it would be 40k yen. I was sent to see Dr. Tenaka, an English speaking urologist. Doctor diagnosed with an ultrasound a DVT deep vein thrombosis. He prescribed an anti-coagulant and compression socks and charged 4x more than estimated. When I got back to states a few days later I got an ultrasound immediately and they said there was no sign of a DVT anywhere… Go elsewhere.

Yelp
I've been in Osaka two months. This was the first time I got sick. I went to Yodoyabashi Medical Clinic for a very sore throat. I thought it might be strep. I was so pleased to find a young man on staff who spoke English and handed me a form to fill out in English. The doctor that saw me spoke English as well. (I have been working on Japanese very hard, but medical terms I don't know. But I can point to where it hurts and say "itai," pronounced "ee-TIE," and they knew I had pain." They did a flu test as well as a Strep test. I waited 10 minutes and they called me back in to tell me they were both negative. Diagnosed with cold/sinus infection. Prescribed antibiotics, pain/inflammation meds and I was out the door! So glad I found this place!

Yelp
DO NOT VISIT THIS CLINIC : I visited this "Doctor" past month after reading the Advertizing of being an English speaking practitioner. Be sure he will charge you 11,000 Yen if your Japanese is not sufficient. NOWHERE in the web site said a Translator will charge you! There is no Translator, but the Doctor who does speak will add to the fee. If you dont visit in within 3 moth, he will add 3,000 Yen to the Fees....and on and on, added fees is a regular in this place. Its not about practice medicine, its more about how can he dig into your pocket. The "DOCTOR" wont check you, will only ask for the problem and will prescribe. I have never seen an Internal Doctor who wont take Blood / Urine test to star with, I doubt all he writes about his credentials. Neither to say that a Japanese Health card is NO USE in this place. All he wants is dig in your pocket, not your health. This "DOCTOR" should not practice medicine!! There are plenty of good doctors in this country of excellent service. His practice constantly change the assistant, receptionist etc, for a reason I guess.

Yelp
One star explained below. The doctor was great. He asked if I could speak Japanese (I can only speak a little) and offered English, which he was very proficient in. Also pretty personable in his delivery of treatment. The nurse was nice, though my tattoo disproprotionately shocked her for medical staff. I'm not judging her cultural upbringing. It was just funny. The issue was the younger looking staff member with the boy band haircut. When I arrived, I told the other English speaking reception staff I absolutely must leave by 12pm to get to work. After a somewhat lengthy wait (which is totally ok), I saw the doctor and I was waiting to pay. I said I need to leave soon to get to work otherwise I will be fined 30,000 yen ($300) from my monthly salary. They said to take a seat. It got to the point where I had to leave to be on time, which I said to the staff member that asked me to wait. The boy band hair staff member interjected and said if I left they would call the police, said no one else complains about waiting, and that I should have said something before. I simply said I did say something when I arrived and sat down because what else could I do with a threat like that (all over a bill of less than 2,000 yen/$20). This shows a disgusting amount of privilege and lack of empathy. I'm sure this guy has never worked for a company with such strict rules in his life, and to show zero understanding of other people's situations is a disgrace. He was also very rude to suggest I hadn't said something earlier rather than try to offer a quick solution. He could have said, "we'll keep hold of your insurance and resident cards until tomorrow and you can pay then", as to get replacements would cost me far in excess of the exceptionally reasonable fee, so obviously I would come back, pay and get my cards back. The staff member needs some customer service training because if I acted like that at my job I would be fired.
