We happened to pass by the Red Brick Warehouse with friends, and the sea breeze here was absolutely refreshing. Inside the warehouse, you’ll find a variety of creative boutiques and restaurants—perfect for browsing around and spending a leisurely afternoon. You can also enjoy a nice meal while taking in the charming atmosphere. Conveniently, there’s a water bus stop right here, offering a scenic ride to Yamashita Park.

Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Review on 15/4/2025 A brisk walk led me to the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, an iconic landmark at close proximity to Yokohama's waterfront. Before reaching the two historic buildings, I passed through large, open squares for hosting events. On this visit, the Flower Gardens 2025 were in full bloom, transforming the open space into a kaleidoscope of colours. Originally constructed as customs warehouses in the early 20th century, the two red-brick buildings have since been restored and repurposed into a lively hub for shopping, dining, and cultural events. Since their reopening in 2002, they have breathed fresh energy into Yokohama’s waterfront. Though Japan is home to several Red Brick Warehouse complexes, none belongs to a formal chain. Each stands as a unique landmark, preserving its own local history while serving the community in distinct ways. While Building No. 1 is primarily dedicated to hosting art exhibitions, concerts, and performances, my time was spent exploring Building No. 2, a treasure trove of boutique stores. These shops showcase everything from local crafts, artisanal goods, and souvenirs, to intricate handmade jewellery, exquisite glassware, and carefully crafted homeware. One feature that stood out during my visit was the impeccable presentation of Japanese products. The packaging of goods was not only visually stunning but also reflected exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. However, I was taken aback to find Chinese mooncakes for sale at the cake store. These pastries with sweet fillings hold profound Chinese cultural significance, traditionally reserved for celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. I could not help but wonder — was this a misunderstanding or a sign of cultural misappropriation? While the recipe may be used year-round, the term "mooncake" carries tradition and meaning that extends beyond mere confectionery. Toward the rear of Building No. 2 lies a variety of cafés and restaurants, offering a delightful selection of cakes, pastries, and other culinary delights. From Japanese-inspired treats to Western-style desserts, there is something for every palate. The fusion of flavours creates an enticing blend of East meets West. The presence of artisan bread and freshly brewed coffee store within the Red Brick Warehouse is a testament to their swift and undeniable integration into the fabric of everyday Japanese life.

Great selection of items! From jewelries and quirky stationeries to leather goods and interesting snacks and drinks. Go here for more special items rather than cheap souvenirs that you're gonna buy 15 or 20 pieces of.. as items here are quite pricey. Warehouse 2 is where it's at as warehouse 1 has much fewer stores and only have 1 cafe. Is there a lot of people? Yea. That's the crowd size you expect for this type of place. Just learn to accept it and you'll have a good time. Would definitely visit again if I get the chance.

Let me level with you: the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse looks like it was designed by a graphic designer with a thing for industrial chic and disposable income. On paper, it’s perfect—historic brick architecture, wide open waterfront, and enough boutique shops to bankrupt a small nation. In reality? It’s basically a shopping mall that got tenure. The shops? Overpriced. Like, “We know you’re from a cruise ship and you won’t check the exchange rate” overpriced. Leather handbags, handmade glass, and 800-yen fridge magnets line up with military precision, screaming, “You forgot to bring home a souvenir, didn’t you, Greg?” Now, to be fair, the exterior plaza is gorgeous. Wide open space, clean, breezy, and I can totally see this place transforming during festivals or night markets. You give this place a food truck rally or a jazz fest and it jumps up a full star, maybe two. But when it’s just regular shopping hours? It feels like walking through an Etsy algorithm that learned to charge rent. Would I come back? Yeah. But not for the shopping. I’d come back to watch people, sip a beer, and wait for the kind of overpriced artisan taco that says, “You’re not in Tokyo anymore—you’re in Yokohama, baby.”

Google
A large shopping complex selling a range of eclectic goods including handcrafted goods and a wide range of restaurants to choose from. Do note that it can get very crowded and you may have to queue for a bit to dine anywhere. If you're willing to wait out these lines, you'll be rewarded with some great food.

Google
A must visit if you're in Japan. It's walking distance to a few other attractions in Yokohama, for example, the biggest Chinatown and the Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris Wheel. Definitely worth your time! Day/Night, both looks great

Upmarket & trendy. Formerly a warehouse, it has been converted to be an event place with many retail & F&B outlets. The outside courtyard features a huge garden. Good place to spend time shopping, have a meal.

Yelp
Checked out this place at Yokohama called Red Brick Warehouse . There's all kinds of shops and eatery inside . We had ice cream at this place called Milk Marche . It was very delicious ice cream it was like a Strawberry vanilla twist sorbet on a cone . No matter it was cold that day it's never too cold for ice cream . I always remember an English man telling me that over 25 yrs ago back in London lol . For 440 yen cannot go wrong that's $2.95USD . Got a chance it's a must if you're ever in Yokohama (Japan) .it's actually right across from the Cup a Noodle factory .

Yelp
Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse is situated overlooking Yokohama Bay and within walking distance of the Yokohama Air Cabins. The plus is that this landmark provides free access, therefore serves as a popular spot for visiting locals and foreigners alike. However, I do think that the shops are more touristy than anything else. If you enjoy souvenir shops and a convenient selection of quick eats, this is for you.

Yelp
Akarenga (Red Brick Warehouse) is a brick structure that was once the Customs Clearing Office for the port of Yokohama, and has since been converted to a food, entertainment and shopping venue. Every weekend you can find couples, families, and groups of friends in the area due to its close proximity to the ocean and the surrounding shopping malls, parks, and places of interest. On many occasions, such as today, this area plays host to various and numerous exhibits and festivals for the local residents of several other countries. Today, was a tribute to Spain and Paella (a seafood, and rice dish), accompanied by traditional dance performances, music, wines, and beers. The weather was perfect at a mild 65 degrees, and sunny, with a gentle ocean breeze. Thousands of people came to celebrate and enjoy the food and performances. If you are in the Yokohama area, I highly recommend visiting the Red Brick Warehouse for entertainment, a refreshing stroll, and delicious food.

Yelp
The location is great, being next to the port and within walking distance to other popular tourist spots. My mom and I walked from the Cup Noodle Museum and had a late lunch in the food court, then walked over to China Town. There are a lot of great and affordable restaurants inside! I don't remember where I ate, but I ordered a delicious salmon and white fish bowl that came with a side of fish broth. The cashier showed me directions in English on how to eat the dish, its called ochazuke and is one of the best things I tried in Japan. My mom found a Korean fried chicken stall that she really enjoyed. We didn't spend any time in the shops, but they had a lot of lovely stores to wander through. The building itself is beautiful, and the city found a great way to repurpose the warehouse.

Yelp
If you have ever been to "The Red House" in Taipei this place will give you deja vu. Both that and this "Red Brick House" were built around the turn of the century, were western styled and are currently huge tourist traps. You will find a lot of shops and stalls inside which are completely geared towards tourists. Artsy stuff, souvenior focused stuff, and expensive stuff. One thing this place has over the Taipei brick house is it also has a lot of restaurants. When we came over here we didn't stop at the restaurants though because we were dead set on entering the octoberfest celebration. Now that's a funny activity to do for a "Japanese trip." After experiencing it I can also say its fun and entertaining. There were many stalls severing a wide range of German beer. Weihenstephaner and Hofbräu, which I like alot, are a few examples. They also serve highballs, cocktails and other non alcoholic drinks if your not a big beer drinker. If you are a beer drinker thankfully the beer quality isn't bad and they give you a lot of it. I don't know if they import this stuff but I was pleasantly satisfied. Food-wise.... it was bland. That I know they made locally and from the unsalted dryish pretzel you can tell they didn't cook it traditionally. The sausage was fine though not that smoked. It paired well enough with the beer but I wish they had one of those big open smoked grills you sometimes see at festivals. Overall we enjoyed our stay here. I did buy some touristy stuff that I have in my display cabinet. I would say visit if your in the area, like to shop or want to enter one of their many festivals.

Yelp
Friday April 28 73°F 63% Humidity Originally customs inspection buildings for traded goods, these two historic red brick warehouses were transformed into spaces for shopping, dining, and entertainment. My friends and I decided to walk from the Cup Noodle Museum to the Gundam Factory, and this was along the way. We explored Building No. 2: 1F - Leather goods, hats, natural stone jewelry, artwork, and fragrances. The food court has ochazuke, omelet rice, Japanized western cuisine, paella, Hawaiian burgers, Korean food, and shumai. There are also coffee shops, cafes, dessert places, and restaurants scattered throughout the first floor. 2F - Apparel, novelty wood items, palm-reading, Venetian glass accessories, caricatures, a music box store, stationary, souvenirs, and other miscellaneous goods. 3F - A burger place, a pizza/beer joint, a lounge/restaurant, and a Disney themed cafe. For a quick snack, I had the Purple Sweet Potato Mont Blanc from Hawaiian Waffle and the Cheese Milk Tea from Milk Marche. Separate reviews to follow. The products here are expensive, but it's nice to walk around and explore. Most of the vendors have a pop-up shop kind of feel to them. If you're visiting during the end of the year, check out their Oktoberfest and Christmas Market! Japan 2023 Yelp collection: yelp.com/collection/5VW1mYIyr54rstI8h9NrYQ/JAPAN-2023

Yelp
Good renovation of old maritime warehouses. Lots of shops and dining and walking along the waterfront. Inwish the restaurant and food selection contained more Japanese fare (sushi, ramen, shabu shabu, sukiyaki), when I visited Jan 2024 it seemed most of the restaurants were very good Japanese versions of western foods and cafes. But overall a good experience and I always w joy visiting this attraction during my visits to Yokohama.

Yelp
Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse is located near the Yokohama World Porters building and is an old warehouse with ultra trendy and hipster shops inside. They have a large selection of boutiques and small eateries -- perfect for souvenir shopping and/or feeding your appetite. It's comparable to a larger version of San Diego's Liberty Public Market. I definitely liked the vibe here because it was very chic and modern inside. The only items I purchased, though, were food (because we were hungry from walking around) and some souvenirs to bring back home (October 2018).

Yelp
Located along the Yokohama waterfront, the Red Brick Warehouse was used as government customs buildings in the past but is now a tourist destination. It is actually made of two separate buildings. One building is for holding cultural events like festivals and art exhibitions. The second longer building is now a shopping mall. From one end to the other, it is now a long hallway full of trendy, boutique stores and eateries. This is not really a place for a casual tourist. The architecture is at least interesting.

Yelp
What a large red brick warehouse on the harbor. Multiple restaurants, specialty markets, artsy & original items and multiple restaurants and coffee places. What I really love is the Oktoberfest here. Its so much fun with the revellors all singing, dancing and enjoying. I love how people are dressed up and so happy. Food and beer selection seem endless. Top notch celebration for me.

Yelp
Nice architecture on the outside. Inside...so damn touristy. Expensive souvenirs and clothing that you don't need. Just snap pictures outside and keep walking

Yelp
No visit to Yokohama is complete without .... blah blah blah. But seriously, it's a very nice place to visit. Red Brick Warehouse (Akarenga Sōko, in Japanese) is a rare example of Japan reusing rather than ripping down old buildings. And they've done quite a nice job of restoring the buildings without overdoing it (too much). It's actually two warehouses (I think there were four or five originally), both a century or more old. The others fell during the 1923 earthquake. I think these were just damaged (but it's been a while since I read about this history). The remains of one or two can be found to the left of the larger of the two remaining warehouses. They're pretty cool looking as is. The larger warehouse houses a number of trendy shops, a food court, and some restaurants. The smaller one has souvenir and tchotchke shops, a display of artifacts from the warehouses, and a gallery area (upstairs) they sometimes use.

Yelp
Yep, this place reminds me of New York City's Chelsea Market! We only visited the bigger warehouse: First Floor: Food! Lots of choices of Burgers, desserts, waffles, etc. Second Floor: Shopping! But not just Japanese Souvenirs, they really have some nice quality items - shoes, pretty umbrellas, ceramics, sunglasses, etc. Third floor: a jazz bar and a seafood buffet. If anything, come here to EAT!!!

Yelp
We had so much fun here. Great places to find souvenirs too. So many great places to eat inside like Dim Sum, Kua Aina Burger and Crepes.

Yelp
Great selection of food, shopping and world wide activities. I've visited red brick warehouse three times. Twice for Oktoberfest and the most recent for Christmas Market. Each time was a blast! Short walk from Bashamichi or Minatomirai stations. Oktoberfest! So much to enjoy. 1. The band they fly in from Germany 2. The huge selection of beer 3. The German style food. 4. The souvenir beer mugs 5. Cheers/Kanpai/Prost with the random person next to you while enjoying #1. Christmas Market! Very festive and bright! I had no idea that I would be enjoying the Christmas spirit in Japan. Nicely decorated Christmas tree in the center. Wide selection of Food and drinks. Hot wine and German Sausages. I enjoyed some hot soup. What topped it off for me was the Ice Skating. I haven't ice skated in years (16 to be exact). ¥1000 for skate rental. Helmets available for kids. Was able to do multiple laps without falling. Lockers are available for your shoes/shopping bags and belongings. I had a great time at both events. Can't wait until the next festive event occurs here.

Yelp
Not worth the visit. Too small of an area and prices are double or tripple regular costs. I know people have to make a living but this is not worth your time. They need to make this people friendly not Merchant aggressiveness. Plus they won't let you ride your bike there. Parking your bike is 400 yards away

Yelp
Historical warehouses from the 1899 turned into modern fancy shopping mall and event space for art and music plays: 2 main buildings with 3 floors, has very curated shops and atmosphere, theres also an nice ice skating ring during Xmas season

Yelp
Many events held here all year long. My personal favorite is Oktoberfest; my friends who have been to Germany and been to a legit Oktoberfest there have been surprised how close to legit it is to the real ones in Germany. Fun times!
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
Aka ranga is a beautiful old warehouse and it often hosts a variety of festivals year round. Oktoberfest is super popular. We love going here for food, but on the weekends and on holidays, it's almost too busy to enjoy. The stores are mostly all feminine Japanese boutiques, not bad but very specific style. The Bill's is the most popular restaurant here, but it's typically impossible to eat here on a weekend without waiting in line for at least two hours. Kua Aina is a great food option if you're feeling like a burger, but Grip Organic is also a favorite for healthier food. Breizh Cafe, from Paris, offers some incredible crepes. The caramel crepe is my favorite.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Not what I thought but full of little gift ideas and offerings for those traveling through the area! Hotel informed me of this store and it was all they made it out to be and there is an extensive offering of baubles and trinkets that made my "gift" shopping very easy! Prices are to be expected and if you walk in hungry there are multiple dining options. Facility was decorating for Christmas while I was there and what was set up appeared to be very amazing and extremely extravagant that would keep kids busy for hours!

Yelp
This is a shopping mall with many shops and food court, my favor eye glass place is the Tokyo glasses company, you can get your glasses in half an hours and the price is much cheaper than New York. Must try the fresh donut place, it is just insane and nothing like it when the donut is made to order.
