Best Japanese Restaurants in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"With 10 outposts throughout Yokohama, San Diego is host to the only U.S. location. Like the Japanese locations, the restaurant offers traditional kushiyaki skewers grilled over binchō-tan charcoal. Menu standouts are hatsu (chicken heart), gyu kalbi (prime beef short rib), and nasu (Japanese eggplant)." - darlene-horn

Google
The chicken are so fresh and delicious! Also the beef tongue is a must try. Light smoky flavor adds new layer of aroma to the skewers. So happy to have such authentic Japanese cuisine here. I would at least pay double the price for this same level food in NYC. Service is not so warm but its OK for me.

Second time here, waited a little but not crazy long. The food here definitely worth the wait. The thigh is soft and tender, and the chicken meatball is very flavorful. Everything is good in this place. It’s even better with the ASAHI super dry, it’s my favorite drink. Service also very nice. Highly recommended!

Google
Hands down best Izakaya in the City. Super authentic and incredibly tasting everything from the Yakitori skewers to the dessert of deep fried cheesecake it was super bomb. We made a reservation because we’d tried to walk in twice before and got turned away. It was totally worth the wait. Can’t wait to go back. Keiko was really nice too.

There was a lot of vegetarian options, but I was not incredibly impressed with the dishes I had. Although, it did give me a chance to try a new meal: the green tea noodles. My takeaway: Yokohama is a good place to get some quick bites and a hot cup of sake! Overall this restaurant is unique, fast, and charming.

Google
Good spot for grilled skewers but nothing seemed to really shine except the chicken thighs. Everything was grilled to medium doneness which made beef items a little more tougher. Maybe they need to cook closer to the coals, the beef tongue and beef short ribs were a bit overcooked - could greatly benefit if cooked to medium rare. Service was good. The atmosphere felt lively.

Google
Outstanding and not "fusion". Mostly. Almost everything tastes just like you were back in Japan's izakayas, down to the cucumbers. The pork belly, chicken thigh w/ negi, boneless wing, short ribs were my favorite. Each kushiyaki was juicy, tender, bursting with flavor - even the tiny wedges of lemon had more juice than a half lemon. Speaking of lemon, they make the lemon sours by hand instead of only offering canned chuhais. AND they have Asahi super dry draft! AND get the desserts - the deep fried cheesecake was wonderful. Service is either really good, or just... disappointing. It depends on who's working that night whether we have a blast or regret going.

Google
Japanese style skewers place, and this place just nailed it!! Great food and service with perfect atmosphere. I would visit over and over!! Easy five stars. I tried not only skewers but other foods too, and they were all good.

Google
Fantastic food, the Chicken Rice Bowl was amazing. The chicken thigh skewer was also really tender and juicy. The only downside is there is a really long wait for the food, and it is usually at least 1hr+ if you don't have a reservation. A lot of the seats are empty and they stayed empty an hour later when we got our seat so I wonder why they didn't just seat some people there. Parking here is tricky, there's usually not a lot of spots.

Yelp
I've heard a lot about Yokohama and was happy that we were able to snag a couple counter seats on a Friday afternoon! We came right around 5 before it got too busy and were excited to look through their menu. We ended up ordering several appetizers - fried cheese wonton, karaage, takoyaki, and ended up getting two beef tongue, short rib, and pork belly skewers! The food came out quickly and we really enjoyed all our bites. The cheese wonton was so fun and the cheese had a great cheese pull!! The beef tongue skewers were our favorite of the 3!! The service was friendly and the vibes were so great. Looking forward to coming back again.

Yelp
Went here for dinner on Saturday night and they were very nice to fit us in as a last minute reservation. We've been here multiple times and it is must to make a reservation bc walking in can have you waiting for a couple of hours which have experienced. It's a small, Japanese style restaurant so space is limited. Came in at 8:15p and it wasn't too busy at all in there until we were almost done with dinner. We started with the karaage which was good but not their best as it wasn't as juicy as before. The best was the beef short rib, shiso pork belly & beef tongue yakitori. That is mostly what we come here for, is the yakitori. It has such a distinct flavor bc of how they cook it over the coals. We were super surprised how fast everything came out and our server checked in on us a couple of times and she took care of us well. I like how it has a nice chill vibe.

Yelp
this is the only place im willing to go broke for in sd nankotsu is s tier yakitori don is good too its just rice with sauce and some skewers in the bowl without the stick green tea noodles smack too, its like soba noodles but there is a hint of green tea
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
This is the one place I gatekeep from everyone but my closest friends. I moved to SD a couple years ago and had a hard time finding "my restaurant." I'm so happy a got introduced to this place and it would 100% be on my death row meal. This place is home-y and small but the service is always great and food is consistently AMAZING. The pork belly and short rib yakitori, beef bowl, and takowasa are our go-tos! It's our spot for birthdays and anniversaries now. Always make a reservation A WEEK IN ADVANCE due to its rising popularity.

Yelp
First time we went here, we were blown away by the beef tongue and omakase - so much so we had to get the beef tongue twice in one visit. This time around, with a reservation at 9:30pm, they had already run out )): FOOD: - Asahi Draft $7 - Sunagimo (chicken gizzard) $3.80/skewer: texture almost like cartilage, subtle teriyaki flavor. It's aight. - Omakase $28 - comes with 6 skewers, mostly chicken based (pork wrapped asparagus, thigh, pork belly?, chicken w/ shrimp mayonnaise, meatball, in order of favorite to least favorite). Decent price, and worth it if it's a first visit and you like surprises. Otherwise, next time I think I'd order separately now that I have a gist of what I like/dislike. - Tebakara (chicken wings) $7.50 - we got salt and pepper. SO really liked the crispiness of the skin and how juicy the meat was. Imo, there was a bit of an aftertaste of some sort that I'm not sure that I liked Food took about 20 min to come out, but it was relatively busy and I didn't mind.

Yelp
Steady crowd on a Friday night. Yakitori joints usually have a long wait but I am so glad this place accepts reservations! A lot of parking but it does get full. I recommend the Karaage Bowl. And I really love the texture of their rice!

Yelp
Nice late night spot to hang out. The restaurant is small but live and vibrant with customers all the time. Food is authentic enough to have in the states.

Yelp
Came here after tennis with some buddies. Open late. Parking was easy to find since it was a weekday. Service was very good. We were seated immediately. We ordered the flank steak and some creamy udon. The inside was clean and the food came out quick. Always a good spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid yakitori place! The wings and meatball skewers are some of our favorites. They also have a delicious beef stew that has a wonderful sweet and savory flavor. Pair everything with a delicious draft beer! If coming on the weekend, try to come promptly when they open to get a table!
google avatar

Jaky Y.

Yelp
More accurately 3.5 stars. Came to Yokohama Yakitori for dinner around 5:15pm on a weekday without a reservation and were seated immediately. They were about 60% full for the duration of our meal. We ordered a number of skewers, all of which were good but nothing was outstanding. We also got a green tea cold soba which tasted pretty much like normal cold soba but cost $14. All in all, we had a good meal but nothing special. Prices were a bit too high to be justifiable, in my opinion.
google avatar

Angie H.

Yelp
This place always hits the spot when I'm craving Yakitori or a rice bowl. Be aware of the wait to get in on weekends. Usually 1 HR+ AND also for the food to come out (30 mins) - "Tokusei" Karaage bowl ( ~$14) 8/10 Rice bowl with chicken karaage. Topped with Japanese mayo, green onions, nori, and sesame seeds. SAVORY!! - Can't remember the name but it was similar to teriyaki chicken bowl (Weekly special ~$14) 7/10 This dish was a little on the sweeter side, not my cup of tea but sill pretty good. Topped with green onions, sesame seeds, and a poached egg. YAKITORI - GYU KALBI (prime beef short rib) Must order, I get this every time I come here - GYU TAN (beef tongue) So tender and bouncy. Try it!!
google avatar

Tommy V.

Yelp
Highly unprofessional staff. Walked in 4 minutes after it opened and was told there was a 20 minute wait time with only 5 people in the restaurant. Was told I was going to get a phone call once my table was ready only for them to completely forget about me. Do not recommend coming here.
google avatar

Yelp
I did like the meat here. The beef, pork, and chicken were all good and cooked great. I did not like that I couldn't just order white rice. That's a cheap move. The worker also gave us attitude for some reason... parking is also difficult in this plaza so account for that. Call ahead to make a reservation.
google avatar

Yelp
Authentic japanese GYU. Tasty bit not as good as that in Japan or in Shanghai, China. Would recoomend Gyu kalbi(beef rib) and Gyu ton(bref tongue) as well as 唐杨chicken(on their special menu). Service is efficient and ambiance can be a little bit loud.
google avatar

Yelp
Good spot for grilled skewers but nothing seemed to really shine except the chicken thighs. Everything was grilled to medium doneness which made beef items a little more tougher. Maybe they need to cook closer to the coals, the beef tongue and beef short ribs were a bit overcooked - could greatly benefit if cooked to medium rare. Service was good. The atmosphere felt lively.

Yelp
Apparently this place gets booked real quick. So we came with reservations. All 6 of us order the 6 omakase which ranged from asparagus, chicken, to potentially my favorite... short rib. The most unique skewer was the chicken thigh topped w scallops. Each skewer provided a unique experience and provided the perfect amount of sweet and saltiness. However I was not a fan of the dips associated with each skewer but that's because I don't like wasabi or mustard Along w the 6 skewers I had the chicken karaage bowl which provided a lightly sweetened and crunchy experience and having a lil rice was nice too. We paired all of this tasty food w some asahi which was the perfect beverage to balance out some of the saltiness of the food.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here for some time but the wait times for walk in have always been 1-2 hours. I got lucky on a Wednesday night calling in to see if they had availability right when they opened around 5 pm. Got lucky and they were able to reserve a table as I made my way over. I do truly understand the hype of coming here. Giant mugs of beer paired perfectly with the best yakitori I've had in all of San Diego. Just know that getting full off just yakitori will cost you a pretty penny. The skewers do add up and more or less feel very snack-y. We tried some of their heartier options like the beef stew curry rice, takoyaki, and salmon onigiri. The non yakitori options are just okay. The standouts were truly the yakitori here. I'd definitely come back and get way more skewers next time. While the restaurant itself is small, there's seating for groups of 4-5. Great place just to hang out and enjoy beer and snacks.

Yelp
Yokohama specializes in Yakitori, which is the Japanese grilled foods on skewers over a charcoal flame. We got an assortment of skewers (Chicken cartilage, chicken skin, pork belly, beef tongue, eggplant, shiitake mushroom, and short rib). Their chicken selection is much more extensive than their other meats and overall everything was good but nothing truly stood out. The chicken karaage was tender and moist. Really really good. We also got the special beef bowl which was very tasty. The meat was super tender (carnitas-like) and the overall flavor was very nice. The seating area is quaint and the decor is very reminiscent of yakitori places in Japan, except much bigger. If you are in the mood for some yakitori then check out Yokohama.

Yelp
Yakitori alone: easy 5 star rating. They do that well. The rest of the menu is hit or miss. The ochazuke was comforting. I liked the green tea noodles for something light and refreshing to pair with the meaty skewers. The wings were underwhelming - small and just didn't bring much to the palate. Same with the tofu dishes (we tried the yakko and fried). The vibes are authentic. Plenty of beer being poured up and some guests were becoming rowdier as it got later into the night. Based on overall food and service, I would have given this restaurant a 4 star rating. However, making a reservation can be very frustrating. We've tried to walk in on two separate occasions before and were told that they would not be taking any walk-ins. They recommend making a reservation. So we tried to reserve a table multiple times. Calling and calling and calling. Some days you just never reach anyone - either you reach a message that the line is busy and to call back again (the call ends automatically) or it keeps ringing and ringing until the call drops. I understand that the dining area is relatively small, but getting to speak with someone on the phone should not be this challenging. For the effort it took us, I had much higher expectations and they just did not deliver.

Yelp
Please make a reservation to ensure you have a proper two hour time limit. We came at 5pm without a reservation and they told us we need to finish by 6pm so that they could get ready for the party at 6:15pm. At 5:45pm, they made sure to tell us last call for any orders. We ordered two of what we liked. Service was quick and we were out by 6pm. Everything was delicious, can't go wrong with what you order. My favorite was the Kalbi. Everyone else loved the chicken meatball. That was too salty for my liking. Parking in this plaza could be tricky but if you come early, there are plenty of spaces.
google avatar

Camy K.

Yelp
It's a pricey restaurant for what you're getting. The food quality overall is just not there. It's strange because it's hard to get in without a reservation. We were denied once trying to go for dinner so we made a reservation well in advance this time. Only to disappointment. Service is average we didn't have any issues. But overall I do not recommend them. I have been to far better yakitori restaurants. Your calories quota is better spent elsewhere.
google avatar

Sunny L.

Yelp
Waited an hour to get seated when I came here Friday 8 pm. Yakitori here is good and flavorful, however a little too salty for most skewers. My favorite is the chicken skin. Their chicken skin is the moist type, holding the sauce well and being very tender. The restaurant is Japanese Yakitori izakaya style. But the food is not served across the counter on the bar. It is served via the servers. Due to the barriers between kitchen and the seating area, you cannot really see the kitchen well.
google avatar

Krista U.

Yelp
This place is one of my favorite yakitori places in San Diego. The wait time can be long on the weekends so I'd recommend making a reservation in advance. Parking can be difficult if you are coming for dinner since there are a handful of restaurants within the plaza. All the items I ordered were flavorful. My favorite items were the chicken wings, seasoned chicken with green onion, and fresh cabbage salad. It is pretty easy to rack up a bill here so i would advise not coming with an empty stomach! Despite this, I see myself returning again in the future.

Yelp
We decided to come here for a late night snack and a few skewers. The service was great, they were welcoming and attentive when we got into the restaurant. It was pretty quiet not too loud when we got there, the restaurant was pretty busy but we got our orders in right away. The food started coming out every few minutes since we order a lot of dishes. Definitely a great places to come socialize, snack, eat, or drink so it's perfect for all occasions to meet everyone needs. Definitely recommend coming here and trying some Japanese cuisine.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here to say for a pre dinner and left full lol. I ordered a few skewers and loved everything. Nothing was burnt and everything a deep smoke flavor. Tender cuts of meat and seasoned perfectly.

Yelp
Yokohama Yakitori Koubou has been our go-to hangout spot for over five years now, and they never fail to impress! Each visit is filled with fun and flavor, making it a memorable experience every time. My personal favorite is the beef curry with onsen egg - it's incredibly delicious and satisfying. We always indulge in pretty much everything on the yakitori menu, especially the standout items like the chicken liver and shiso pork roll with plum paste - they're simply unbeatable. The staff members are a joy to interact with, and they add to the lively atmosphere, especially when you treat them to drinks. Without a doubt, Yokohama Yakitori Koubou holds a special place in our hearts as our favorite hangout spot in Convoy.

Yelp
I arrived here around 9 p.m. one night after picking up family from the airport. This restaurant was featured on Yelp as a late-night eatery, so I was very excited to try it. When we walked in, the shop was completely packed, which was a good sign that the food was excellent. We ordered a variety of beef skewers, heart skewers, takawasa raw octopus, chicken karragi rice bowl, and soup. Everything was amazing, and we sat there watching the chefs grill and season the food. Our waitress was quite impolite. He didn't greet us and was unfriendly when he asked us seating questions. I also thought he was overly hard when delivering our food and water, but everyone has bad days. Would I return even if the service was poor? Sure, because the food was delicious LOL
google avatar

Sheetal J.

Yelp
Absolutely worth a visit! We tried a variety of skewers and each one was as tasty as the previous. Chicken pork and beef, all grilled to perfection! Asahi draft pairs well with it all Vegetable dishes are a little pricey, that's my only negative feedback.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
This place has the best yakitori in San Diego. It's always pretty busy so reservations are a must. They have a good assortment of grilled meats and apps. Love the rolled pork, yaki onigiri and cucumber salad but everything here is great.
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
I've been here several times and it's always a delicious treat to eat at Yokohama. I always enjoy coming back here and it has a good night vibe, both bustling and cozy or intimate. Good for both duos or groups of friends. I also like that you can take a glimpse at the chefs at work in the clear window kitchen. Many items are really yummy here, I really like their Pork Belly, and all their chicken skewers are really good. The Beef skewers are high quality and good as well. Yakitori in America tends be a pricer dinner, but this restaurant is worth the splurge once in a while :) Their chicken karaage is good to share as well. Service is good and attentive as can be, but the restaurant tends to be busy on weekend nights so I tend to call and ask what their wait time is like. Definitely worth the try, as I type.. I want to go back haha
google avatar

LINA M.

Yelp
Very overpriced yakitori place. I'd honestly say this place is a bit overhyped. Don't get me wrong the food was good but not great for the price. I also heard you usually need to make reservations which we did and usually would not be able to get seated due to how packed they always are. Let me tell you now, save your money. They do fresh grilled Japanese skewers from just about any part of the chicken, beef, or pork. More of an appetizer place to eat while drinking and let me tell you the drinks are also super overpriced. Not only are they expensive but even if you ordered $400 worth of food and drinks, if you take too long (close to 2 hours) they're already trying to kick you out for the next party.
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
How have I not tried yakitori before? I'm hooked now after my friends invited me to this place! The meats were all DELICIOUS! So tender and juicy! Our group ordered a bunch of random items so we could share and try them all, I definitely recommend this strategy because you need to try as much of their menu as you can! I originally was just going to do the more 'traditional' meats, but since they were so good I knew I had to try everything so I'm not even sure what everything I ate was, but nothing disappointed! The food was so good, I stopped taking pictures after the first round because I didn't want to hold up the group or myself from stuffing the delicious skewers into our faces! Only complaints are not about this place in particular, its just the normal parking/crowding issue in this general area, but as long as you understand that this place is a solid choice!

Yelp
After high recommendation, my friend and I grabbed dinner at this hole-in-the-wall yakitori spot. I had full intentions of just walking in and dining but was surprised that they were already full! You can make reservations on their website and their regulars really take advantage of that because it's on the smaller size inside. Luckily, we put our name down and went to grab boba in the meantime but they called us back much faster than their estimated time. We even got to sit at the bar next to their chefs! Everything smelled delicious and the counters were lined with their crispy chicken skin. Of course we ordered that appetizer with ponzu sauce and it was basically chicharrones: salty, lemony, and full of flavor. I ordered their omakase skewers since there were too many to decide from and our favorite was the beef short rib, but all the chicken ones were so juicy. Even the asparagus was thinly wrapped in chicken and I could eat that like candy. Overall, the service was very attentive and fast with bringing out the food. The atmosphere was inviting, warm, and quiet enough to still hear the person you're taking with. We barely scratched the surface on the menu too, but I'm sure it'll all be just as great of quality.

Yelp
Food: This is a must try restaurant!! We started with drinks - Soju with Calipco of Oolong and Beer - great pairings with grilled meats. For small plates, the chicken crackers were our favorites, very crunchy and chicken skin flavor-packed. The takoyaki was very good as well, flavor- and texture-wise. We would skip the grilled chicken skin next time, too chewy and cut with onions. The skewered meats are the reason to come here, and they were chef's kiss. The chicken, beef, and pork options are a must try. If you don't know where to start, you cannot go wrong with the omakase! Service: Our reservation for 6p was ready right away, despite a small area and being packed. The servers were all so nice and helpful. They got use everything we needed to enjoy our meal. Atmosphere: A nice sit-in restaurant for what it is. No frills, just great food!

Yelp
Not a bad place for skewers, but I don't think it's the best and a bit pricy per skewer too. We had the omakaze for $24 which seems to be pre-determined as the waitress was able to list out all the skewer varieties before we ordered, and it was a good variety, but I don't think it's anything crazy. The asparagus had good umami flavor, but some of the chicken ones were a bit dry and bland. The beef one was probably my favorite, soft and the most full of flavor. Comes with miso and mustard on the side, but I don't think any of the skewers better with those, especially the miso which had a weird sweet taste to it. You can also order skewers individually, but interestingly there's not many beef or pork options, just mostly chicken. I also had the ground chicken bowl, which was solid, but also basic and a bit boring. My girlfriend had the green tea noodles, which was somehow served last even though it's cold, and comes with soup to dip in on the side. While I can taste the tea, this dish was the blandest and smallest. While the experience wasn't bad, I don't think I'll be itching to come back again next time.
google avatar

Sandy N.

Yelp
Came here on a weekday and got seated right away. My boyfriend and I ordered the Omakase, ground chicken bowl, and green tea noodles. The first dish that came out was the ground chicken bowl. It was flavorful and wasn't salty. The next dish that came out was our omakase skewers (6 skewers total ~ $4.33 per skewers). Some of the skewers tasted okay, I was more disappointed with the amount they gave for the pork and the asparagus skewers. As for the meat, I personally feel like the beef were a lot tastier than the chicken or the pork. It was juicy and tender, but I would not recommend any of the ground meats. The last dish that came out was the green tea noodles. I was a bit disappointed considering how everyone was almost done eating and this dish came out last even when all they had to do was cook the noodles. I felt like even so, it was just okay. The noodles had a hint of the green tea flavor but not as strong since the dipping sauce overpowered it. Overall, I felt like this place was a bit overpriced and overhyped.

Yelp
Was excited to try this place in Convoy. About 1 hour wait on a Friday night, restaurant itself pretty small inside. Food is all fresh grilled cooked to order : specific dishes as follows 1) chicken thigh, very good, tender, good flavor 2) short rib, also very good, tender 3) mushroom: not good at all, small portion, dehydrated, and expensive Service: waiter was really attentive and nice. However there was a ?manager with an orange shirt who was not. She demanded to throw away a boba we had gotten while waiting for our table, and refused to split the bill for us. Overall: service needs improvement, order the chicken and beef skewers, and skip the mushroom!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here 8 years ago and still a great place. Walked in and only waited 15 minutes. The food was excellent! Highly recommend the Omakase, shown in my pics, as it provides a great variety of sticks. We ordered tsukune, chicken & green onion, gizzards, stir fried pork & mushroom, pork belly and yakisoba. As I always say each person's experience is different and ours was fantastic from the food to the service. They were promoted with the food and asked if we needed anything. Will be coming back before 8 years!!

Yelp
I've heard this place had issues with service from friends so I was hesitant to try it. Glad that it wasn't the case when I went! I made a reservation for 6:30 on a Wednesday night. My friend was running a little late but I saw the place wasn't too busy at all. Only until 7-7:30ish did more people fill up tables. We got the omakase skewers which is such a great deal for the amount of food you get! We still felt a bit hungry afterwards and got a pork belly, pork in shiso, and chicken gizzard each! Everything was super delicious and service was good!
google avatar

Minju K.

Yelp
The food was really good here. We always get the chicken hearts! It's so tender and yummy!! We got lucky and got seated at the bar where we could watch them grill our food in front of us. I took one star off because all the food was kinda really salty and I had to drink so much water. We also had the takoyaki and karaage chicken which were yummy but again kinda salty. The onigiri was good too!! It's a really good late night place to hang out

Yelp
Ever since leaving Japan, I've been dreaming of Yakitori. Few places in my hometown even have it on their menu. The places that do don't even come close to doing true yakitori justice. Alas, my time in San Diego brought me to Yokohama. Do you have menu anxiety? You get handed a menu that has dozens of options, all of which you want. All you can think is, "What if I make the wrong choice?!" Thank goodness for omakase options like the one offered here. Every bite off a wooden skewer was better than the last. 6 yakitori skewers of chicken, tender beef, flavorful vegetables. The chef's choices were top notch. The fried chicken? Those moments of pure bliss, where you forget all of your life's problems and finally found nirvana? That was biting into these pieces of chicken. Beautifully tender, crispy, and finished with the finest of tangy mayo a loner could ask for. Props to our service as well. They were handling a table full of wasted, extremely rude middle age men sitting next to us with style and grace, all while remaining pleasant and attentive to us.

Yelp
Staff seem very unhappy seeing customers but I get it. The restaurant owner should pay them higher

Yelp
Update 6/15/2022 You know it's 100% a one star when a year after your review about a rude server, that server comes back and harasses you on Yelp. Check the photos I uploaded. There is an insane server named Chrisean C who is reaching out and harassing customers who comment on his rudeness and demeanor. To the owner, fire this guy before you go out of business.

Delicious food! Mediocre service... Went on a Monday evening, and to my surprise it was pretty busy. Sat at the bar, and waited for 10 mins to get my order taken. Afterwards there were some things that I wanted to ask about but it seemed as though no server wanted to make eye contact to help. So I sucked it up, ate, paid and left. Like I said the food was amazing! Especially the beef stew 10/10!

Yelp
Just like other people's comment , the service is terrible. You guys disrespecting the Japanese culture! Funny is that the customer who left with us at the same time say the exact same thing! Bad service ! Impatient! Attitude !! You name it !

Yelp
To the most of the Yokohama team, I appreciate your great service and food, this was my go to place for Japanese grill, but one of the server had been extremely rude to me and the friends I have introduced to the store, which irritates me tremendously. Sometime last month, I brought 2 of my friends over. We waited more than half an hour for the table. Upon our turn, front desk called me and the phone call only lasted for 1 seconds and they hung up. After sprinting to the restaurant, which took us 3 minute. The Japanese lady with goldish hair demand us to wait since we "didn't pick up the phone which worked for every one else". I tried calling back after I got the call as well, but they didn't pick up either. In the end, we got the side eye from the server and endured because of the good food. After that we come often for a quick meal every now and then, things were going fine until today. The same lady approached us and claimed we tipped too less for the terrible service from her. This is extremely rude for a server to do, and I question her work ethic. This is also not the way any restaurant should treat its customer. This was my go to place, but work ethic, especially from the server must be emphasized

Yelp
Delicious yakitori spot on Convoy - really reminds me of being in Japan! I recommend making reservations because they are always busy. It's located on convoy in a busy parking lot so be patient and you'll find a spot. Definitely order yakitori (meat skewers - there are so many to pick from and I promise they are all delicious). Eat more tapas style at restaurants like this. If you want to order a larger dish like noodles, ochazuke, curry, etc., order it for the table to share so you can eat more smaller bites. If you drink, getting a beer or chuhai goes great with this type of meal!

Yelp
Love this place. Authentic Japanese restaurant atmosphere. If you love meat & protein without all the bs this is a great place to eat. Tons of delicious skewers all available individually so you can try everything in one trip if you want.

Yelp
Worth the wait. Definitely make a reservation if possible. Love this place. I really enjoy being able to order items by the skewer over the span of my meal. Everything I've had at Yokohama has been cooked to perfection and comes out in a reasonable amount of time. Keep in mind that popular items like beef tongue, quail eggs, veils tend to run out quickly. My favorite items: chicken karaage, beef tongue, chicken gizzard, chicken heart, chicken wings, takowasa, chicken cartilage. Finally, if you're with a group, a huge bottle of sake is more worth it than individually ordering sake.
