I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but I believe it’s important for others to make informed decisions and for businesses to hear honest feedback.
I arrived at Yola Cocina Mexicana while in Corpus for work. I was alone and willing to wait, but was immediately greeted by the host with a warning about how busy they were. That’s fine—I was patient and found my way to the bar. After a noticeable wait, the bartender finally acknowledged me. I ordered a beer, the Chicharron y Salsa (which on the menu includes three salsas), and the Pescado Divorciado.
Ten minutes later, she returned to tell me they were out of the fish and handed me the menu again. I reordered—three tacos and fideo. Another ten minutes passed before she brought out the chicharrones, but only one generic hot sauce. When I asked about the three sauces listed on the menu, she casually said, “Yeah, we’re out of them.”
I politely asked her to cancel the rest of my order if it hadn’t been sent yet, which she did. When I received the bill, I noticed the chicharrones were still on there. I asked if anything could be done about that, explaining that the only reason I ordered them was for the trio of salsas. Her response: “Well, you ate them.” (See the photos—clearly most of the dish was untouched.)
She seemed annoyed but ended up giving me 50% off, which I suppose is better than nothing, but still felt dismissive considering the circumstances.
The food might be decent, but service like this makes it hard to want to come back. I sincerely hope they improve communication and customer service. For now, it’s a one-star experience for me.
Update,
The owner reached out to me as I expected would happen. That shows great pride in the buisiness of serving people and im glad I can up the stars.
I don't review for free food, I do it because it's important to let the restaurant and other diners know. It's awesome the owner wants to fix things, but I think replying to my review was enough. I will increase the food rating next time I come to eat there if the food is truly better. Thanks.
