Breakfast Club: Our Top Picks for Teochew Kueh

"The primary location of Yong's Teochew Kueh is at Upper Serangoon Road, where it has become a neighborhood institution known for its generous portions, good quality, and affordable prices. Despite infamously curt service, the shop has a slew of returning customers and often sells out of its signature kuehs by noon." - Alethea Tan

Bought some yam Kueh, soon Kueh and Ku chye Kueh from Yong's Teochew Kueh at Kovan location. Their Kueh is larger size than others and I really like the texture of the fillings and skin. Taste still maintain after all these years. For me is still the best traditional teochew Kueh in town. No more in house dine area. Only take aways.

Old school kueh stall that is still around and has the most authentic soon kueh taste. The or nee yam has always been disappointing and the fried bee hoon is unfortunately just so-so. Just stick to the soon kueh.

The Yam Kueh is really special! It is filled with strips of yam, providing a good chewy texture on top of the good taste! I ordered the rice kueh and soon kueh too and it's pretty good. But nothing beats the yam Kueh. Getting there is hard though, as I had to walk quite a distance from kovan mrt. Besides that, queue for quite a while and had to went to the petrol station opposite it to draw cash, as they accept cash only.

possibly the best traditional Chinese savory confections in all of the north east. this heritage shop has a strong generational following, that commands a perpetual long queue during their operating hours. try their best sellers: soon kueh, ku chye kueh, png kueh!

Finding a good Teochew kueh specialist these days feels like searching for a hidden treasure. I ventured out to Yong’s Teochew Kueh and it was well worth the trip. Opted for a mixed box at $8.80, which translates to roughly $1.70 per kueh - a fair price for the quality. I had the Soon Kueh at room temperature, and even without any sauce, it impressed me. The fillings were incredibly fresh, crunchy and have the right savoury note. On the following day, I heated up the rest. Cabbage Kueh and Chives Kueh really stood out with perfect chewy skin. What’s impressive is all the kuehs have the right amount of fillings to skin ratio. Here's a minor nitpick: they only offer a large bag of chili and dark sauce. While the condiments are a welcome addition, it's difficult to use everything. Individual packets or smaller portions would be a welcome change to minimise waste.

Passed by here and decided to get some kueh to try. Tried the cabbage kueh, peng kueh and soon kueh . Food was great, relatively fragrant, very oily. bit pricey but acceptable. Service sucks? I asked a question and the auntie was relatively rude. the payment counter was also quite narrow, especially when people are queueing. Boyfriend likes the soon kueh, i like the cabbage kues.

Worse service ever. All the aunties freaking cannot wait, no patience to explain anything even to my elderly grandma. Kept on rushing you to pay, super eager to take your money. Prices of Kueh increase again, yet standards of food keeps on dropping. Don’t recommend any one to come. Better of getting Kueh else where. With better service and smiles. I didn’t come here to pay a high price and get scolded by grumpy aunties, no thanks.

16/10/2024 Takeaway cabbage kueh, soon kueh & ku chye kueh, was good! I especially loved the ku chye kueh ($1.90). I'll be back for more! No dining in, takeaway only.
