The Best Dishes Eater Boston’s Editor Ate in July 2025 | Eater Boston

"There’s a new omakase spot called Yoshida that just opened up in Back Bay, and I got an invite to its eye-popping opening collaboration dinner with chef Tadashi Yoshida (he’s not involved with the new spot but is the force behind NYC’s Yoshino, which former New York Times restaurant critic Pete Wells declared the best restaurant in the city in 2022). The dinner, priced at $500 per person, was a gilded parade of one luxury bite after another, but the mackerel stole the show: kissed with burning-hot charcoal, then laid over rice, wrapped in nori, and presented to each diner, so the fatty oils drip down into the rice for a creamy, extra-rich effect and the fish melts like butter in my mouth. Yikes, it was good." - Erika Adams

Dining at Yoshida Omakase was an exceptional experience from start to finish. Each course was thoughtfully curated, showcasing a perfect balance of creativity, flavor, and artistry. The chefs’ skill and passion were evident in every bite, transforming each dish into a memorable moment. The staff provided impeccable service. They were attentive, warm, and genuinely gracious - enhancing the overall experience without ever feeling intrusive. Yoshida Omakase offers a truly refined and unforgettable culinary journey that I can’t recommend highly enough.

This was probably the best dinner my wife and I have had in the city. Sushi was exemplary, fresh from Japan and on par with some of the west coast’s high end restaurants in terms of quality. The service was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable, much more well run than you might expect for only being open a short time. They had bar seating only when we were there and the atmosphere was excellent, watching the dish preparation and interacting with the chefs. Pretty classic high end sushi restaurant stuff. We have been to many of the better and well regarded sushi places in Boston, generally thinking they did not compare to experiences we had elsewhere. This place is an exception, meeting the quality we had hoped for. It is expensive but well worth the price given the high quality food and luxurious ingredients. Highly recommend!

After I got back from my trip to Japan, I was craving an authentic omakase experience at home. When I stepped into Yoshida I could tell that every detail was accounted for, and I immediately felt as if I was back in Tokyo. From the seating, to the plating, to the precision of service, everything was impeccable. Ana’s sake pairing recommendations were on POINT and elevated the experience to no end. The entire evening was truly priceless, and perfect for an intimate celebration. The atmosphere and curation of every detail made for an unforgettable evening.

I so wanted to like this place, I came for my birthday dinner. The service and presentation were good, which is why I gave it 2 stars, but the quality of the fish was not great - there were a few plates that we didn’t even eat because they smelled too fishy to even try. The quality was a lot lower than the other high-end sushi restaurants in the city. I was disappointed, maybe we just caught them on a bad night but for the price, the dinner wasn’t worth it.

An exceptional omakase experience! Our group of 6 enjoyed immensely a birthday celebration at Yoshida Omakase. The dishes were amazing! Some were decadent with rich flavors while others kept true to the simple clean tastes of traditional Japanese omakase. Everyone in our party was impressed by the menu, the impeccable service, the elegant choices in design for the restaurant (serving dishes and sake glasses, and cutting board) and the seat arrangement. Allen, the manager, was wonderful and personalized our friend’s birthday on our menus. Overall, our night was perfect in every way. And we will definitely return in the future.

Really excellent addition to the booming omakase scene in Boston. Sushi was delicious, they make their own pickled ginger, what they call their appetizers were also great. Servers were extremely kind (if anything a little too attentive). The restaurant itself is a beautiful space. Go check it out!

Absolutely incredible omakase experience! Each course was thoughtfully crafted with perfect balance and texture. The O toro melted in my mouth, and the uni was incredible fresh from Japan. I appreciated how the chef described the ingredients and preparation for each piece — it made the whole experience feel intimate and special. Service was professional and warm, and the atmosphere was elegant but comfortable. One of the best fine dining sushi experiences I’ve ever had — highly recommend!

We had a very great experience at Yoshida! The sushi was very high quality and prepared perfectly. The staff was kind and attentive. Ambiance was calm and luxurious. We were celebrating a birthday, and they made the birthday very special! It was acknowledged more than once and the dessert had a candle and nice music box. Everyone sang. It was nice. In my opinion, Yoshida is more of a traditional omakase restaurant- sushi is cold with minimal sauces and toppings. Keep that in mind if that is not your thing! We would recommend!
