The Best Dishes Eater Boston’s Editor Ate in July 2025 | Eater Boston

"There’s a new omakase spot called Yoshida that just opened up in Back Bay, and I got an invite to its eye-popping opening collaboration dinner with chef Tadashi Yoshida (he’s not involved with the new spot but is the force behind NYC’s Yoshino, which former New York Times restaurant critic Pete Wells declared the best restaurant in the city in 2022). The dinner, priced at $500 per person, was a gilded parade of one luxury bite after another, but the mackerel stole the show: kissed with burning-hot charcoal, then laid over rice, wrapped in nori, and presented to each diner, so the fatty oils drip down into the rice for a creamy, extra-rich effect and the fish melts like butter in my mouth. Yikes, it was good." - Erika Adams

Yoshida is an absolutely exceptional dining experience from start to finish. The service is flawless, warm, attentive, and perfectly paced, making you feel genuinely welcomed and cared for throughout the entire meal. Every detail is handled with intention and grace. The food is nothing short of amazing. Each course is beautifully prepared, showcasing the highest quality ingredients and expert craftsmanship. Every bite is balanced, thoughtful, and memorable, reflecting true respect for the art of omakase. The décor is elegant and serene, blending modern refinement with traditional Japanese aesthetics. The intimate setting enhances the experience and allows you to fully appreciate the artistry behind each dish. Yoshida Omakase offers far more than a meal. It is a thoughtfully curated experience that engages all the senses. From the incredible food to the exceptional service and beautiful atmosphere, this is a truly standout destination and is highly recommended

Google
Yoshida Omakase is a world class omakase counter experience. The fish - superb. The shima aji went through this curing and salting process which produced a tender and rich bite that I just wanted more of. Their Akami is 28 day aged and was just bursting with flavor. The rice is made with four different vinegars and served warm - a perfect balance with the fish. The appetizers were amazing. We started off with monkfish liver, with a quenelle of apple purée - wow. It was fun watching the chef make each quenelle! Service is top notch, the place is beautiful and the plateware was beautiful - each one different. I would say this is now the best high end sushi in Boston. Had it been open long enough in 2025 it would have a Michelin star.

Dining at Yoshida Omakase was an exceptional experience from start to finish. Each course was thoughtfully curated, showcasing a perfect balance of creativity, flavor, and artistry. The chefs’ skill and passion were evident in every bite, transforming each dish into a memorable moment. The staff provided impeccable service. They were attentive, warm, and genuinely gracious - enhancing the overall experience without ever feeling intrusive. Yoshida Omakase offers a truly refined and unforgettable culinary journey that I can’t recommend highly enough.

Google
This was probably the best dinner my wife and I have had in the city. Sushi was exemplary, fresh from Japan and on par with some of the west coast’s high end restaurants in terms of quality. The service was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable, much more well run than you might expect for only being open a short time. They had bar seating only when we were there and the atmosphere was excellent, watching the dish preparation and interacting with the chefs. Pretty classic high end sushi restaurant stuff. We have been to many of the better and well regarded sushi places in Boston, generally thinking they did not compare to experiences we had elsewhere. This place is an exception, meeting the quality we had hoped for. It is expensive but well worth the price given the high quality food and luxurious ingredients. Highly recommend!

I visited Yoshida on December 26. The interior design, overall atmosphere, and the variety and freshness of the fish were all excellent and clearly well thought out. That said, I felt there was room for improvement in execution and attention to detail, which are essential to an upscale omakase experience. The fish portions were inconsistent in size, and the rice was served overly warm. The brushed soy sauce was applied too heavily, at times overpowering the natural flavor of the fish. I also noticed water from the handwashing sink splashing onto the counter area, which was quite unpleasant. In addition, the amount of wasabi used was excessive and inconsistent from piece to piece, affecting the overall balance of the sushi. There were also several spelling errors on the menu, suggesting a lack of refinement in the finer details. The experience is interesting on a first visit, but without stronger execution and attention to detail, it is unlikely to encourage repeat visits.

After I got back from my trip to Japan, I was craving an authentic omakase experience at home. When I stepped into Yoshida I could tell that every detail was accounted for, and I immediately felt as if I was back in Tokyo. From the seating, to the plating, to the precision of service, everything was impeccable. Ana’s sake pairing recommendations were on POINT and elevated the experience to no end. The entire evening was truly priceless, and perfect for an intimate celebration. The atmosphere and curation of every detail made for an unforgettable evening.

Google
An exceptional omakase experience! Our group of 6 enjoyed immensely a birthday celebration at Yoshida Omakase. The dishes were amazing! Some were decadent with rich flavors while others kept true to the simple clean tastes of traditional Japanese omakase. Everyone in our party was impressed by the menu, the impeccable service, the elegant choices in design for the restaurant (serving dishes and sake glasses, and cutting board) and the seat arrangement. Allen, the manager, was wonderful and personalized our friend’s birthday on our menus. Overall, our night was perfect in every way. And we will definitely return in the future.

Google
I so wanted to like this place, I came for my birthday dinner. The service and presentation were good, which is why I gave it 2 stars, but the quality of the fish was not great - there were a few plates that we didn’t even eat because they smelled too fishy to even try. The quality was a lot lower than the other high-end sushi restaurants in the city. I was disappointed, maybe we just caught them on a bad night but for the price, the dinner wasn’t worth it.

Yelp
Outstanding experience, all the way around. Very fortunate to have the team in our neighborhood.

Yelp
What a fantastic addition to the dining scene in Boston. This is easily not only the best omakase in the city, but arguably the best restaurant overall. The service was simply phenomenal, I could not find a single error. The sushi chefs and wait staff were consistently interacting with us in a polite but friendly manner. The sushi was outstanding. Each course was done perfectly, standouts included the tuna with caviar and the yuzu dessert. I will definitely come back, I can't imagine this restaurant won't be on everyone's radar soon, and I definitely would expect a Michelin star in their future.

Yelp
A fantastic new addition to Boston's omakase scene! I've been twice so far, and each time the service was fabulous, Chef Cao and team were lovely and welcoming, and the dishes were spectacular. This is not a full traditional edomae omakase - instead it's an even balance of half creative appetizers (6-7 dishes) and half traditional fish. Each bite was a delight - would highly recommend!

Yelp
A party of 3 adults had brought a baby who was screaming loudly throughout most of the 2.5 hours of the 5:30 seating. Couldn't they have taken turns to bring the baby outside to calm him/her down? Restaurant should have a policy to prevent or manage such situations. Aside from that, service was good, and the food was generally good (especially the tachiuo, nabe and consommé), with no real surprises (I thought the botan ebi, otoro and tempura were disappointing compared to what is typically available elsewhere). About par for Boston omakase places, I guess. Next time I want to spend this much money, I'll go to O Ya.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience! The food was masterfully crafted and presented, the atmosphere was intimate and fun, and the service was incredible. Couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate my wife's birthday.

Yelp
From the perspective of style and atmosphere, the restaurant's vibe is quite on point. However when it comes to the dishes themselves, judged against other high end omakase of the same type, they fall somewhat short of expectations
