Lazy Bear Co-Founder Snags Fillmore Street Space for Casual New Restaurant | Eater SF

Google
A lovely place that has a wide variety of Japanese and Korean options! We got the spicy seafood udon soup and the tofu bipbimbap and they were quite perfect for a chilly day. I especially loved that they gave us a free miso at the beginning and free ice cream mochis at the end! The service was very nice and prompt, and they also give a Tufts student 10% discount which was nice! The portions were also generous and I had some leftovers!

Google
It’s a small joint which you might not notice easily, but the restaurant is great. I think most people prefer ordering from this place as we saw someone coming in to pickup food every 2-3 minutes. We had the Tuna Tartar which was spicy tuna with avocado and mango. The mango and spicy tuna complemented each other well and it was perfect. We had the Tonkotsu Ramen with pork and it was super filling. The portion size was more than enough for 1 person. We also had the Beef Gyudon. It had a small fried egg and while the beef was amazing, I felt the rice was a too much for me. The flavor was good and service was very fast. They also gave us some free ice cream mochi to go!

Google
A surprisingly nice atmosphere (clean, quiet, ambient) and quality food that exceeded expectations. Yoshi's does an interesting mix of traditional Japanese sushi and Japanese dishes with traditional Korean entrees. The portions are great and the prices are reasonable. The quality of food was sincerely high and really enjoyable flavors. The menu is extensive and they have many appetizers, sushi options, and entrees. We dropped in on a whim but were so glad we did. Highly recommended!

Google
lunch bento is incredible value for what you pay!!! i thought everything was made super well and packaged beautifully. i think the miso soup is lacking in flavour but they most definitely do not skimp on the portion. they also have a 10% discount for tufts students :D

Google
The Japanese fried chicken app was the best that we’ve had in any Japanese/Korean restaurant. The Rainbow Salad was a great choice for something light and healthy. Great prices, atmosphere and staff. We are looking to coming back and trying the Korean menu next.

Google
Absolutely love grabbing sushi, poke bowls, edamame, miso soup, or pork gyoza here! They also deliver incredibly fast and don't upcharge like a lot of third-party services due. A great meal anytime!

Nadya M.

Google
We got a to go order and were very happy with it. Big portions, delicious food, we even got complementary rolls (maybe it was a mistake, but let’s think it was on purpose 😅). Food was ready on time, good value!

Chinara A.

Google
Large portions for a reasonable price. Everyone was friendly and even gave complimentary mochi and fortune cookies; they were very cute.

Yelp
Amazing! I ordered catered lunch via Relish from Yoshis and went with the gluten free chicken teriyaki bento box, which was incredible! They gave me plenty of chicken and rice as well as salad, edamame and even 3 cucumber avocado sushi. Tons of flavor in this bento box. Since I did not go to the restaurant I can't comment on the ambiance and service, but I would definitely order from here again!
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Solid bento box for lunch. The pork bulgolgi was super flavorful and the portion size was large. I loved the variety of items in the bento box.
google avatar

Yelp
Yoshi's is one of my favorite places to grab sushi, pokeballs, great miso soup, edamame, or pork gyoza! They're always friendly and quick, whether in person or delivery. A strong recommend for any folks in the Powder Square area!
google avatar

Christophe R.

Yelp
Fake promotion on uber eat! I ordered one of the sushi buy 1 get 1. Once the ordered was delivered I received a notification that the promotion is not applicable anymore, they updated the receipt and charged me for 2 products! The quality was also bad. Never again

Jackson D.

Yelp
Reliably delicious family-run restaurant with fresh seafood and generous portions. The Korean options are great, too!

Estée J.

Yelp
Hands down some of the worst sushi I've ever had. Would never go back here. I felt nauseous for days after eating here.
google avatar

Scott A.

Yelp
A Japanese-Korean place run by a HK Chinese family. Visited here twice, both times on Friday. Service is fast and friendly. Food is good - we had four entrees and liked them all.

A K.

Yelp
I love Yoshis!!! I think that their sushi is reasonably priced and the quality is really good compared to other restaurants at the same price level. Their miso soup is AMAZING, and same with their house salad. You can tell that they are using real family recipes for the salad dressing and miso soup. Tufts students also get 10% off. Highly recommend

Yelp
I got the ramen here and it good, pretty mediocre and is somewhat satisfying. Not much of a wow factor. I also got the fried tofu as an appetizer and it seemed cheap to me. Not sure what sauce it was on top... maybe a hoisin? Very medicre. The service was alright, Very frendly staff. Not much to critique. The ambiance was kinda cute too. Overall, this is a very 4/5 stars place. Need to try the sushi though. --------------------- My Star Rating Scale: 5 Stars: Blew my mind, had a wow factor, will come back 4 Stars: I liked it but didn't love it, no wow factor, will still come back 3 Stars: It was okay, I didn't hate it but didn't like it either; would not voluntarily come back 2 Stars: I did not like it, I would not come back 1 Star: Absolutely hated it, I would not come back here

Yelp
Meh. The menu looked great and we were excited to try this place. But most of what we got was very mid but priced much higher. The Hawaiian roll I ordered was overpowered by canned pineapple. I was shocked that they didn't use fresh pineapple. They kindly included a free scallion pancake appetizer--but it was burned. This was a bummer.

Yelp
I'm so sad because this place is so close to us and I love supporting small/local businesses but I've tried Yoshi's twice now and it's just not good. I ordered a bento that had the toughest pork Katsu I've ever had. I didn't eat much of it because it was too tough. The rice was sort of stale (not sticky rice, either)... not sure what was up with the texture. My husband's bento/sushi was the same- his pork bulgogi was fine... again, nothing great. The miso soup was passable and the sushi was half questionable as well, so we decided not to eat that, either. We tossed half of our entire order in the trash and we won't try it again.

Anna O.

Yelp
Great playlist, better miso soup. Thank you so much you healed me. Thank you thank you!

Yelp
I've done takeout from this place on several occasion while visiting friends in the Boston area. I can't tell you a think about the restaurant itself, but I can tell you the online ordering process is really easy and pretty quick. The food is delicious. There are an amazing number of vegetarian options and the fish was really fresh. The mochi dessert was also excellent and a nice surprise to our order. I will have to try more things next time!

Yelp
Went with a party of nine. We called ahead so they knew we were coming. Waited over an hour for our food. Orders came out one at a time, with five to ten minutes between orders. When we were advised that the final plate would be ten more minutes, minutes, I canceled that particular order. It showed up on the bill, however. To make amends, they gave us a 10% discount - which is the same discount they give Tufts students (8 of the 9 people at the table were students), so really no discount at all. Very disappointed and will never go back.

Yelp
So this is my second favorite when it comes to sushi in Boston. It's right on the border of Somerville and Medford. On-street parking can be available. Sushi is great!! They also give complimentary Mochi at the end that is great! Overall a must try for sushi lovers in the city.
google avatar

Olivia W.

Yelp
Pretty good sushi and impressive delivery packaging. They also have great combo deals for delivery - I really enjoyed the 3 roll combo (6 pieces each) and a miso soup, all for less than $20! Great prices and good sushi - I will be ordering from Yoshi's again :)

Aron C.

Yelp
Ok sushi if you want a quick bite. Good service n reasonable prices similar to whole foods
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
This has been our go to sushi spot for the past few years. Online ordering is super easy. During Covid they have placed food on a table at the entrance so you can grab and go with little interaction. Prices are reasonable and our order has always been tasty and well made.
google avatar

Sarah F.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from here tonight and I was so happy with the product and customer service. I've been trying to find places that delivered with COVID surplus of delivery requests it's been difficult finding a restaurant I enjoy being either a)open or b) accepting customers. Everything arrived on time and the food was delicious. I highly recommend if you're looking for a sushi spot right now. I'll have to check Yoshi's our after quarantine too.
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
the food was delicious and ready quickly. customer service was amazing. they even gave us mochi at the end which I had never had before. Great experience and I will be back.
google avatar

Dej D.

Yelp
If you want real sushi and ramen, this is not the place to go. The food is more for like takeout 'eat-alone' at home meal. Everything is too saucy , lack of real flavor.
google avatar

Meghan M.

Yelp
Close to - if not the - best sushi delivery we've had in the year since moving here (and we've tried many a sushi delivery place!) Went with a safe order of mostly rolls for our first order, and they were great, but the one piece of hamachi we ordered was bomb! Delivery was shy of an hour with major (unnecessary) apologies from the driver since we were estimated at 55 minutes. Prices were on par with places who've been half the quality. Definitely our new go to delivery option for sushi so we'll be "regulars" in no time...
google avatar

Norm J.

Yelp
I ordered a vegetable naruto roll (wrapped in cucumber, without even any rice), as well as a good ol' spicy yellowtail roll, and both were excellent! It was hard to believe that the former was so healthy, but - alas, the texture and crunch were on point. Carrot, avocado, fresh lettuce - the works - yet oddly bright, pleasant, and satisfying. Especially with a touch of soy sauce! The yellowtail roll was likewise lovely; I really enjoyed the crunchy stuff inside. Solid fish as well. If I still lived here in the Boston area (le sad :'( ), I would absolutely order Yoshi's again.
google avatar

Rui T.

Yelp
Delicious sushi with fast and awesome delivery too! We ordered the amazon maki which was crunchy and deep fried! Even when it was delivered at 11 pm, the sushi was great and provided with many side drinks and fortune cookies!!! Love this place!
google avatar

Refael B.

Yelp
Best value for money! Love their high quality sushi! Salmon lover maki and Salmon avocado maki
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Wow.. I've been coming here for 5 years, how have I not reviewed it. The best recommendation I've had for this place was from a woman who was 8 months pregnant, and could not wait to go back to Yoshi's once she had her kid. She was excited about having her first child and all.. but you know, It's sushi! This is a great little sushi bar with ample table seating. The fish, when its good is amazing, but occasionally the tuna or salmon can be a bit bland, but that's rare. The rolls are done to perfection. While the prices are a tad high, the combo plates are really filling. To clinch there five star rating, the last time I was there (at 4pm on a saturday to get take out) they threw in a free california roll.
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
One of my favorite local restaurants for Sushi, the lunch special is one of the best deals around and the Spicy Tuna is the best I have had. The crazy maki is also amazing. Recommend to everyone to give them a try.

Emily A.

Yelp
Sushi is excellent, my go to place in the area. Quick delivery too. Cooked food isn't as good, just fyi
google avatar

Becca P.

Yelp
Ordered takeout and got it delivered in an hour. I got the dinner combo with sashimi and chicken teriyaki. Added a crazy maki as well. The sashimi was good. Each piece was about an inch thick. The crazy maki was underwhelming. I've had better shrimp tempura. The maki was very small compared to other crazy maki that I've had. The miso soup tastes like packaged miso. The chicken teriyaki was not great. It wasn't dry but it lacked something. I would not order from here again.

Shayla T.

Yelp
Ordered a large order, sushi boat #2 & like 4 rolls on top of that for a small dinner party for my bday and they really delivered!!! I've been a patron since like 2015 and wanted to support locally for my birthday and they gave me cake and mochi ice creams for my bday. I thought that was super sweet. Love this spot and hope they have a prosperous year! Thank you for always being the best. Can't wait to come back soon :)

Freda L.

Yelp
Pros: Cheap quality lunch bento boxes, amazing quantity, fast service Cons: hit or miss dishes, expensive dinner options Yoshi's is a great spot for a cheap but filling lunch especially when I'm looking to eat a tasty meal with a good balance of carbs, greens, and proteins. I honestly don't know many places that can beat the value for a lunch bento box near Tufts so I was pleasantly surprised! Since I am always eating out in Powderhouse square, Yoshi's is a pretty regular haunt of mine and a bunch of my co-workers, especially for lunch. I've always had a satisfying experience at Yoshi's with their fast service, however I feel that the dinner experience at Yoshis is quite different - gone are the cheap lunch bentos. My dinner bill is almost twice as much as lunch though the bentos tend to have more food! Also, I've tried venturing from the bento to the udon and oh boy, it is best to stick with the bentos.

Yelp
i cannot believe i lived down the street from this place for a year before realizing it was here. i have went/ordered every couple weeks since my first time coming. the staff is so nice and the food is amazing. great vegan options and tofu dishes. you have to go to!! also a student discount for tufts students

Hannah K.

Yelp
Never been in the restaurant, but I ordered delivery last week and enjoyed everything! Sushi rice was done perfectly, and everything was fresh. Honestly, it was better than some much more expensive sushi I had in the area recently. We also ordered the pork bulgogi which was very good and had the right amount if heat to it. It had a decent amount of veggies too. Overall the food was very good for the amount we spent. It's not the absolute best but it's great if you are looking for an affordable sushi place with a lot of options!
google avatar

Suzanne P.

Yelp
Awesome deals for bento boxes (2 sushi rolls, entree, rice, tempura, miso soup AND salad), and good quality sushi. My husband and I frequent here thanks to food for all, which is an app we use to pick up food that would otherwise be wasted at the end of the day for a discounted price. I love that they're doing their part to reduce food waste, and we love the huge box of Tempura, rice, dumplings, salad and soup for only $5!
google avatar

Maria C.

Yelp
Sushi is good and reasonably priced. Chicken teriyaki is disgusting. Horrible taste and texture. The teriyaki meal had 1 slice of tomato and 1 piece of broccoli in it. I would have wanted more broccoli or more vegetables in it minus the tomato. Check out their website for coupons.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
We ordered delivery from Yoshi's this evening and after we unpacked our food we realized that they'd forgotten the gyoza. Especially since it had been a free add-on to our order anyway we let it go - there was still had plenty to eat! However, about 15 minutes later, unprompted, they came back to deliver it and as an apology included a gift certificate. They have fantastic service and their food is always delicious.
google avatar

Sam T.

Yelp
The staff was very nice and attentitive. The atmosphere is ok. I walked but there's not really any parking. We ordered a ton of sushi, but something that was cool was they had us tally it on a paper they give us of all the sushi to order, which I think was optional but I think a cool way to order. Everything was delicious and amazing. Since we ordered so much it came on a sushi boat which was so cool. This place definitely wins for my go to sushi place in Somerville.
google avatar

Emile C.

Yelp
Not very good but not terrible either. It did get to us pretty fast but tasted stale. Prices are reasonable but it'd still recommend going elsewhere for sushi. Though if you do end up here, the maki is better than chirashi since the rice and panko will cover for the somewhat stale fish.
google avatar

Tran P.

Yelp
Delivery was just as good as back when in person :) Fast preparation and fresh ingredients. Definitely go for the nigiri and sashimi. I wish they would offer torched salmon instead of smoke salmon nigiri
google avatar

Kelley F.

Yelp
10/10 will order sushi from Yoshi's as long as I live in Greater Boston. If you're eating in, expect fresh sushi, great presentation, and if you're lucky, complimentary post-meal moshi. If you're doing delivery, expect your sushi to get to you within 20 minutes - way faster than any other sushi restaurant I've seen. And if you're like me and always ask for extra sides of eel sauce and spicy mayo, expect the staff to be super accommodating - and to give you these sides at no extra charge. Also! If you spend $30 or more on takeout or delivery, you get a free spicy salmon, spicy tuna, or california roll. You're welcome.

Yelp
I cheated on Montana Sushi* and now I feel kind of dirty. It's not that Yoshi's isn't good. It's just that Montana's is better... This review is for delivery only. Sometimes I think I'm going to Montana's too much, so I'll pick another cuisine or try to head someplace different. Yoshi's delivery is pretty solid and the price is right. They listen for my order and I never have to repeat myself. They deliver in a reasonable amount of time (under a half hour when they say 40 minutes) and the food comes piping hot if need be (oohheee souuupp).. but.. their dinner boxes make me long for Montana. The dinner box I had recently, consisted of bulgogi and sashimi. Dinner boxes generally come with salad, miso soup, and a scallion pancake-esque mabobber all for $15.95. It was good, but it wasn't great. Montana bulgogi is better. I've had the Alligator and the Alaska maki and found the sushi to be of good quality.. but Montana.. 3.5 stars rounded to 4.. because delivery sushi is just amazing sometimes. *I don't like advertising for other restaurants within a review.. hence the fake name. lol ==================================================== Note: Lunch Hours: Monday-Saturday 11:30 AM-2:30 PM Dinner Hours: Monday-Thursday 5:00-10:00 PM Friday-Saturday 5:00-10:30 PM Sunday 4:30-10:00 PM Delivery to Somerville, Medford, North Cambridge. $20 minimum.
google avatar

J W.

Yelp
I don't understand all the positive reviews for this place. We ordered delivery from here and not only was it 40 minutes late, it was mediocre at BEST! Don't bother, it's not good fish and clearly they don't know how to deliver on time.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Sushi was all well prepared and delicious, bento lunches are gigantic and yummy as well. Milk tea was refreshing and a great cool treat on a hot day. Overall everything we ordered was delicious and the staff was great.
google avatar

Vivian M.

Yelp
I order takeout from here once every couple of weeks. I normally get a few pieces of nigiri, a fresh roll and a roll with some crunch. They deliver on all of fronts! I ordered more expensive sushi recently from another place, and definitely regretted not going with Yoshi's. I like eating the sushi in the park across the street as well, so also a plus. I will keep being a regular here.

Angela N.

Yelp
Love Yoshi's - best delivery sushi this side of the river. I stumbled on yelp trying to get to their website and was shocked at 3.5 stars (they're 4.5 on grubhub) - so just I had to leave a review. Been ordering here for years, not my absolute favorite for noodle dishes but they never disappoint with sushi. Try the ninja sandwich and chef roll. Also - great customer service. They're almost always early with delivery. One time I was a little late to pick up my order (my fault) and they insisted on re-making the whole order for freshness free of charge. The one time they forgot something in my order they sincerely apologized and gave me a credit larger than the value of the missing item. Not too many takeout places with such high standards for customer satisfaction. Thanks Yoshi's!
google avatar

Joan M.

Yelp
Today we ordered bento boxes and mackerel sushi to pick up. When we got home with our order, it had tuna instead of mackerel. I called, and had the following conversation with the woman who answered: "Hi, we ordered mackerel but you gave us tuna." Her: "That's because mackerel *is* tuna." Me: "Um, no it's not." Her: "Sorry bye!" Me: "Excuse me? That's your answer, sorry bye?" Her: (Giggles.) "Yes, sorry bye!" AND SHE HUNG UP ON ME. But hey, the bulgogi was good. And at least they were open during the snowstorm! So three stars, but check your fish!

Jeffrey G.

Yelp
Got a couple vegetarian rolls--veggie and veggie-tempura. Pretty good portions. Goes down easy with Pepperige Farm Farmhouse-Style White Chocolate Macadamia Nut cookies
google avatar

Yue Y.

Yelp
Not recommended. The rice is super hard and difficult to chew. Even the egg was burnt on the edge. Disappointed
google avatar

Mylene K.

Yelp
Yummy food plus a discount for Tufts students! They gave my bday daughter a gift certificate for her next visit!
