This was SO GOOD - the veggie side dishes were so flavorful and delicious - nothing was bland. One of the best things I ate on my entire trip. The place is not where it says it is on google maps - you walk halfway up the steps to the temple entrance and it’s on the right. Cash only!

The best happy accident. We are vegan and doing a day of hiking between the shrines, and just packed some fruit thinking there might not be many food options. We happened to stumble across here and it was our favourite meal so far, and the owners are incredibly friendly. Photos won’t do it justice, just the best food and atmosphere we will be back.

After being hungry from exploring Kurama dera, we headed to Yoshuji to have lunch. The exterior and interior of the place gave warm and homey vibes, which is something I'm looking forward to when visiting unfamiliar places. We ordered the "KuramaYama" course, which is their most popular dish. I love everything about the meal, especially the Buckwheat noodle with grated yam and their service tea. Please do take note that it doesn't contain meat or fish products since this is a Buddhist vegetarian meal. What I like about this place besides their signature dishes are their hospitable and friendly staffs. Eating unfamiliar foods in unfamiliar places, with warm-hearted and accommodating staffs will urge people to come back again to their store. I recommend having lunch here when visiting Kurama dera, they have other dishes to offer that might also interest you guys.

One of my favourite places in (near) Kyoto. Lovely atmosphere, with quiet jazz in the background. Fantastic vegan/vegetarian food - among the best I have had in Japan. I had the mitarashi dango and the cold soba meal - both highly recommended!! I would give six stars if I could

I paid in cash. It was nice because it was right near the entrance to the shrine/mountain trail. Food was great too.

Incredible Buddhist vegetarian restaurant with a truly delicious set menu of varying sizes. Very much worth the trip from Kyoto for the food and the atmosphere, and provided great fuel to walk up to the nearby temple complex which has views of Kyoto if you go to the top! Cash-only.
