I absolutely loved this place. It’s not just a clever play on words. The donuts are amazing. Few tables inside, 2 benches outside. Friendly and helpful staff. Very clean inside. They are open Thursday through Monday, 7am to 3pm. Closed Monday and Tuesday. They close early when they sell out for the day. Not sure how often it happens. If they way they taste is any indication, they must close early every day. We got a few different kinds to try. My hands down favorite was the Cannoli Donut. To start, it was heavy, meaning weight wise. It’s loaded with delicious chocolate chip cannoli cream. The actual donut was delicious. Very soft and fresh. Another good choice was Salted Carmel Cheesecake. Another delicious filling. We also tried a few donut holes including chocolate peanut butter, maple glazed, and regular glazed. Chocolate peanut butter was the best of those. If you are in Mystic, Young Buns is a must.

Young Buns Doughnuts in Mystic is a delightful little gem that elevates the doughnut experience to new heights. From the moment we walked in, the cozy, inviting atmosphere and the sweet aroma of freshly baked doughnuts had us hooked. Each doughnut was beautifully crafted, with flavors that felt both nostalgic and innovative. We tried the Cardamom Crunch, Maple, Vanilla Glazed, and Cinnamon Sugar doughnuts, and every single one was fantastic in its own way. The Cardamom Crunch was a standout, with a warm, aromatic spice that paired beautifully with a crispy topping—unique and addictive! The Maple had a subtle sweetness, balancing the deep, rich flavor of maple with a perfectly fluffy texture. The Vanilla Glazed was classic and comforting, with a smooth glaze that made every bite melt in our mouths. And the Cinnamon Sugar? It was simple yet superbly executed, with a perfect cinnamon-sugar balance coating a light, airy doughnut that tasted like the best childhood memory. To go along with the doughnuts, we each ordered a vanilla latte. The coffee was rich and smooth, with just the right amount of vanilla to complement our treats. It was clear that Young Buns takes pride in not just their doughnuts but also in their coffee—truly a complete experience! Young Buns is one of those places you’ll find yourself craving and wanting to come back to, especially with such a variety of flavors that celebrate both traditional and unique tastes. Whether you’re grabbing a quick treat or sitting down to enjoy a latte and a few flavors, Young Buns is a must-visit spot in Mystic that brings doughnut indulgence to a new level. Highly recommend!

Google
These were some of the best donuts I’ve ever had, hands down. They had a range of creative flavors, peach jelly and a blueberry cake with a blueberry glaze, along with standards like chocolate glazed and cinnamon sugar. The donut holes were enormous and came in many flavors. The shop is on the Main Street running through downtown Mystic and has a pair of benches on the sidewalk. It was a perfect spot for breakfast early on a beautiful spring morning. They’re pricier than your chain shop but the taste and quality are worth it. I ordered a half dozen donuts and a half dozen donut holes, plus a large coffee. Total was about $26.

Google
Absolutely delicious!!! We ordered two iced coffees with almond milk to our specific liking and were delivered without compromise!! We also got two donuts; the young buns and a blueberry cake. Huge and unlike any donuts we’ve had in the past!! The place is really cute for a little donut shop and the people were very friendly and super helpful!!! Would definitely come again for iced coffee!!

Google
Big donuts price range are about $3-$4 each. We had banana pudding, young bun and regular glazed. They were all yummy, but glazed takes the prize!

Google
Unique donuts carefully crafted on site. Creative flavors of donuts in both classic and donut holes, gluten friendly options too. Coffee is available, as is some merch. Line can get long in peak Mystic season, online ordering is an option.

Google
My husband and I chose Young Buns for our Mystic wedding. The staff was fantastic with the ordering process, and helping pick the best seasonal flavors and gluten-free options. The donuts were a hit at our wedding and–no exaggeration–we had one donut left the morning after! Highly recommend if you're looking for a delicious, easy dessert for your wedding.

Google
At some point Adam Young is gonna make a dessert I don't like, right? Maybe not. Doesn't seem likely. These donuts are fantastic! I had this incredible plum apricot jelly filled donut that was out of this world. The place smells amazing, the staff inside was super nice in helping us decide. Fresh donuts were being churned out nonstop. This place is delicious, to fill a donut craving, go here!!

Yelp
Young Buns Donuts is an amazing donut shop that is bringing some high quality baking artistry and modern flavors to Mystic, CT. It was one of our favorite spots that we visited while we were in town and I would go back in a heartbeat. First, the donuts were fresh and had really cool flavor takes using lanvender and yuzu in some of them, while also staying true to flavor combos that are tried and true as well. They were beautiful, and it almost surprises you that they're not in NYC or another bigger city where I'm from. I wish they were closer to me so I could try them again more easily but especially for this area, you have to try and come here (and Sift bakery) if you have a sweet tooth! If you're visiting Mystic or don't live too far away I would make it a point to try their donuts.

Yelp
First time Young Bunner here. I went with an array of donut rolls. I tried the buttercrunch and chocolate peanut butter. The chocolate peanut butter was better but it really didn't have a peanut butter flavor. It was more like a moist ball of chocolate covered in chocolate. I also tried the Mystic filled donut. The girl behind the counter told me it was like a boston cream but with buttercream and pistachio on top. This is a THICK donut. It was like donut cakes put together. The buttercream was not as I suspected. It was a thicker boston cream, more like slightly whipped. Not as flavorful. Overall the donut consistency was really good. Next time... I will try other flavors.

Yelp
Truly one of the best doughnuts we've ever had. We went multiple times while we were in town and 100% plan to come back. The service was quick and the staff were very sweet. There is a small seating area inside and benches outside too.

Yelp
Lovely little shop. Great selection. Loved the cardamom crunch. Good coffee too. Do it.

Yelp
Young Buns closed on New Years Eve 2024. Sorry to see it go. They certainly had stiff competition from Sift and Deviant Donuts

Yelp
So many choices, a very cute little donut shop with a clever name. The donuts are fabulous - creative and delicious! We got the cannoli filled donuts today.

Yelp
I walked in about 30 minutes before closing time on a Saturday and was pleasantly surprised that there were still donuts left. The shop was empty and my friend and I were able to snatch up the last 2 s'mores donuts. Each was $4.00, which can be considered pricey, but the donuts are very sizable. In fact, I would consider them to be 2 portions. We saved them for a post-meal dessert and each only able to eat about half. The s'mores donut was a cakey texture and packed with chocolatey flavor. It was sweet and decadent, which is what makes it hard to eat an entire donut in one sitting, though the flavor is addictive. I wasn't a fan of the marshmallow on top because it was fluff and I would've preferred a real marshmallow. I ended up scraping most of it off. Other than that, great donut!

Yelp
Really great doughnuts and really good coffee to pair with it! I had the blueberry donut and my boyfriend had the traditional glazed. The blueberry is messy, delicious and all thinks cake donut! The glazed was light, melt in your mouth perfection. I recommend both but if you want a light donut to pair with a good cup of coffee than the glazed is the way to go. There were so many over the top donuts that looked (and smelled) delicious but I only have one stomach so I couldn't sample them all.

Yelp
This review is not about the donuts. While in Mystic we happened to drop in one day for coffee and loved it, so kept coming back. Hot or iced, it was better than the local Dunkin or Starbucks, and more convenient being right in Mystic down town. We were also fortunate to catch their afternoon/evening carnival menu on a Saturday, where beignets were featured. We were a group of 5, and got 1 order which was more than sufficiently buried under powdered sugar. I think there may have been 5 pieces to an order too. The beignets themselves were delicious, crispy on the outside, pillowy on the inside and not too greasy. We will visit again for the coffee and maybe next time will try the donuts!!

Yelp
The buttercream donut is the best I've ever had! So buttery and huge too! Service was great- friendly and smiley faces all around - clean and stylish ambience with nice restroom
google avatar

Yelp
Good coffee, good donut holes. They are small, but quick and efficient with their line/check out process. We haven't gotten their larger donuts because they're too big for our toddlers, but the donut holes are a perfect size. Right downtown mystic - easy to find!
google avatar

Yelp
had myself an Oreo filled donut, one of the best I've ever tried! Might be a bit too filling though, as I had dinner later Cozy spot for tourists looking for some good sweets

Yelp
I was walking around downtown Mystic and came across Young Buns Doughnuts. They have full sized donuts and donut holes. Most flavors of the full sized were available as donut holes. I went with half dozen donut holes for $3.75 prior to tax. Service was great and very patient while we decided what we wanted to purchase. I ordered the young bun, which is vanilla cake, vanilla glaze, vanilla streusel; blueberry, which is fresh blueberries, blueberry lemon glaze; sprinkle, which is vanilla glaze, sprinkles all over; peach cobbler, which is peach glaze, oat streusel, and peaches; samoa, which has caramel glaze, toasted coconut, and chocolate drizzle; and lastly chocolate glazed. All the donut holes were good, but probably my favorites were the Samoa, blueberry, and peach cobbler. They were all unique. The donut holes were very fresh and we enjoyed every bite. I definitely recommend checking them out if you are in the area.

Yelp
I had to come in here (it was cute) It was practically begging me to come in (I made my parents pull over) I had no choice (I needed some donuts in my belly)!!! But seriously, i really dislike sweets and tend to avoid the classic donut shop. Something about it being the end of summer/ early Fall, the rain, and Mystics general allure made me rethink my sweet tooth. I convinced my boyfriend into coming inside with me on our way out of Mystic with my family and we grabbed a variety of donut holes. I may or may not have also snagged a blueberry latte? It was a great idea. I loved them all! Great service and patient folks behind the counter :).

Yelp
Ok, so every single doughnut we tried was amazing! My favorite was the lemon poppy seed- to die for!

Yelp
Another Great Adam Young Establishment this one is dedicated to Donuts and of course you can get your coffee fix as well. They have usually around 6 monthly specials and then the regular standard fair. We tried several of the monthly specials on this visit all were fresh and tasty. My favorite was the orange cream filled brioche. And I really liked the pear glazed cake donut as well. I don't think you can make a visit to Mystic without going to one of Adam Young's establishments you leave happy after visiting any of them.

Yelp
If you are a donut lover, and who doesn't love donuts, Young Buns, Doughnuts it's definitely worth checking out. We got there at 9:30 on a weekday, and there were slim pickings, but the staff said they would be restocking in a few minutes. I purchased a Mystic Creme Donut consisting of a Brioche Donut, vanilla bean pastry cream, pistachios, sea salt, and chocolate ganache. OMG it was so good, and it was so thick I couldn't fit it in my big mouth. I will definitely be returning to check out some more of their delicious donuts very soon.
google avatar

Yelp
Love the coffee and donuts! The blueberry cake and the mystic cream pie are our favorites! The donut holes are a great way to try them all! The coffee is my favorite in Mystic!
google avatar

Monica B.

Yelp
Finally trying these famous donut holes. We did an assortment of all flavors and they didn't disappoint. My favorite was definitely the blueberry one!! My decaffeinated ice coffee was perfect and service was excellent! The ambiance was casual and we were very lucky we didn't had to wait in line. Not sure if the air conditioning was on but other than that everything was perfect.

Yelp
I have visited Young Buns doughnuts several times when I've been in the area. On this particular trip, my intention was to visit Sift, but the line was too lengthy to justify, knowing I could stroll over to Young Buns, which is under the same ownership. Despite it being Mother's Day weekend, I was pleasantly surprised to find there were still some doughnuts available when we arrived around 12:30. We managed to snag a few to satisfy our cravings and tide us over until lunchtime. The doughnuts were airy and light, with just the right amount of sweetness. I also opted for an iced coffee flavored with blueberry vanilla, a delightful complement to my glazed doughnut. Overall, my experiences at Young Buns have always left me content and satiated. If you find yourself in the area, it's definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
So freaking good!! Who doesn't love a sweet treat? It's a small little donut shop in downtown Mystic and it's open from certain hours or when everything sells out. Pretty cool! They had a variety of drink options to include seasonal flavors. I ordered an ice coffee with the maple fog seasonal flavor. It gave me the fall feelings! They have a variety of donuts that are huge and beautifully crafted. They range from 3.25-4.00 per donut. A bit on the pricer side but they are very filling. I ordered the s'mores donut and it was super tasty. The donut was fluffy, and had bits of s'mores pieces surrounding it. The marshmallow whip at the top made all the flavors come together. 10/10!
google avatar

Austin K.

Yelp
We got 6 donut holes ($3.75) and a pumpkin cake donut ($3.25). The donut holes have most of the flavors but not all - we got 2 young buns, cinnamon sugar, chocolate glazed, maple, and pear almond. The texture and taste of the maple was the only lackluster one whereas the young buns really stood out along with the pumpkin came donut. The young buns 'butter crunch' was a streusel and blended better with the dough compared to the hard toffee-like texture of other similar donuts.
google avatar

Yelp
A great place to add inches to your waistline...enter at your own risk! Chai tea, Poppy Lemon donut and Mystic cream donut will have us returning for more! Friendly and courteous staff!

Yelp
I don't live near Mystic. So when I visit, I want to hit a few different food places. And I'm going to research to make sure I get it right. I've seen many people talking on Instagram about one particular donut place in Mystic. From an outsider's perspective, I don't get why they're talking about the other place and not about Young Buns Doughnuts. Since Young Buns had 4.5 Stars on Yelp, and the other place had 4 Stars, I chose Young Buns. I'm glad I did. Young Buns is located on West Main Street in the heart of downtown Mystic. On Sunday morning, I planned to buy three different donuts to share with my family later in the day. But to my surprise, Young Buns had gourmet donut hole versions of their beautiful full size donuts. I quickly changed my plans to a dozen donut holes. My order included Blueberry glazed, Sprinkled, Butternut, Cinnamon Sugar and another flavor I missed and didn't try. My family liked the donut holes a lot. They're denser and cakier than the donut holes you're probably used to eating. They also look and taste better. They actually held up very well the next day too. Since I didn't get a full size donut, I'm not sure if there's a difference in the texture between the holes and the full size. Young Buns was 5 Stars for me, but it's 5 Stars with a caveat. Some people prefer lighter and softer donuts. I'm not sure how those people will feel about Young Buns. I'm not married to a specific donut style and this one worked for me.

Yelp
Fun place on the main strip in downtown Mystic. Easy outdoor pickup window for preorders. Fun artisadonut options in regular size and donut bites. Available flavors are displayed on a daily basis. Fast and friendly service. Lots of choices in downtown Mystic but this one is sure to be a favorite. Make it a stop when you're in town! Reasonably priced especially for the donut holes.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for some doughnuts to go. They had lots of interesting sounding doughnuts, and the workers there were very friendly and helpful with us. I got 3 of their doughnuts to go: one chocolate glazed, one strawberry shortcake, and one custard filled doughnut. I didn't get to try the chocolate glazed doughnut, as that one was for my dad, but the other 2 I did get to try and they were fantastic. My friend who had come with me also raved about her choices. Absolutely worth stopping in, if you happen to be in Mystic and are a fan of doughnuts.

Yelp
Young Buns is simply a sweet quality tasty location that you don't want to pass up on while in Mystic, CT. For those who had their minds in the gutter a bit with the cheeky name, that's fair but jump back into reality. This location is all about the hand crafted, fresh donuts and specialty drinks to pair with your selection. All in all a great tasting Donut regardless which you pick. All were fresh with every bite. I paired my selection with a freshly made cherry lemonade [FYI only comes in 1 size large], super tart and tasty washing down the airiness of each donut bite taken. Only downfall of this location is that it's more of a select, buy and go...no where to really sit and eat your selection. ;( Other than that minus, all else was great and definitely worth the pop in to indulge in a fresh young bun or two!! ;P

Yelp
I typically don't gravitate towards doughnuts as my favorite sweet treat, however while in Mystic recently I stopped by Young Buns Doughnuts, because my friend said she'd heard great things about them. Young Buns are owned by the same person who owns Sift Bake Shop, that is Adam Young. Young Buns Doughnut shop will catch your eye in downtown Mystic, with its pastel yellow door, and it's small interior, with only a handful of doughnut options made by hand daily. We decided on the tiramisu doughnut. Oh my goodness this is an artsy creation. This is a chocolate based doughnut, with a generous spending of mascarpone creme, a good coating of cocoa powder, and a paper thin piece of chocolate.. here comes the best part... it comes with a little vial of espresso, to coat your doughnut before eating! I just thought this was so clever! This is a dreamy doughnut for sure, it's fresh, it's rich in chocolate, it's rich in coffee once you give it its vial. And it was plenty big for us two to share and enjoy! Then I got their iced coffee to enjoy on the go! They also make a great iced coffee! Don't just walk by Young Buns, you have to go in and experience the goodness of their handmade, delicious doughnuts first hand!

Lindsay B.

Yelp
Been here so many times. It's an adorable shop in a great location. We love donuts in my house and have tried so many spots...best donuts around and a great staff!

Yelp
Trust me, you want some of these buns! My wife says my buns are the same size since my mid twenties. Is she lookin' for some young buns? Hell no! She left the sandbox because now she's playing with big daddy. If she did want to sample some young buns, we can surely stop at Young Buns Doughnuts and try some of their delicious doughnuts. I left Sift Bakery and asked where's a good spot for doughnuts. They directed me to Young Buns, it seems the bakers father said the same thing I did? It must be a dad thing. It's all good, They opened Young Buns in 2020, making fresh doughnuts from scratch 5 days a week. The team arrives at 3am to start the process of making homemade yeasts, doughs, fillings, icings and toppings? Sold at this point, lemme at those buns! I ordered a 1/2 doz mixed doughnut holes for the ride back to New York. I also had them box up: TRIPLE CHOCOLATE, MYSTIC CREAM and THE YOUNG BUN. Oh baby. If loving you is wrong then I don't wanna be right! The triple chocolate was soooo decident! Shaved Chocolate topping on a chocolate cake doughnut? Heaven. Sift bakery has some insane cookies. If you want doughnuts? Come to Young Buns Doughnuts. I'll be back in a few weeks to try their Mixed Berry Jelly.

Yelp
DO NOT PASS THIS UP. Delish! I wanted them all but we landed on the apple filled donut and the cheesecake filled. The apple was phenomenal, just like an apple pie. The cheesecake was a surprise, the filling sneaky hits you - it's light and fluffy, not what I expected. They have munchkin sized donuts too but you have to buy 6. Give it a shot.

Luoyi L.

Yelp
Ordered blueberry and raspberry crème brûlée donut. The donuts are very delicious. The people are very friendly and the raspberry donut was given to us for free because it was only slightly smaller than the regular ones. Highly recommend this store and would visit again.
google avatar

Sawako Y.

Yelp
The doughnuts here are huge! I really wanted to try the Triple Chocolate, but when I saw the size, I opted for a less sweet option and got the Old Fashioned ($2.75+) instead. It's a classic cake doughnut and is the best Old Fashioned I've ever had. It is huge and the inside is soft, with a subtle sweetness. The Chai Latte had too much of a cinnamon flavor--I could barely taste anything else. Wouldn't order the Chai Latte again, but will definitely be back for the doughnuts!
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Donuts were nothing special. Most were kinda dry or overly sweet. The people working there were not happy as well. Overall Disappointed!
google avatar

Jackie O.

Yelp
Yummy donuts at a high price point. They have a unique texture compare to a typical cake or yeast donut. It is more a combo of the two. I really enjoy their "Young Bun" donut which is a great cake texture with a sweet and salty crunchy topping. The next best, in my opinion, is their blueberry cake donut which has a delightful blueberry shell and a moist center reminiscent of a blueberry muffin. Worth trying out for sure if you are in the area. Bonus: you can order ahead but their cases were stocked late morning on a Saturday.
google avatar

Christine A.

Yelp
Young buns was as nice stop after breakfast in mystic for some doughnuts and coffee. While I personally didn't love the texture of the doughnuts (I prefer brioche style), I appreciated the ingenuity of their flavors. We ordered a young buns and an Irish stout doughnut. The Irish stout was soaked in Guinness and had a delicious cream piped on top. Adorned with the cutest little chocolate shamrock and sprinkled with gold dust So festive in time for upcoming Saint Patrick's day!
google avatar

Yelp
FIRST OFF THANK YOU TO THE NICE EMPLOYEES. I was stupid and cut my finger accidentally right before walking in and had a napkin wrapped around my finger with a hairtie. The sweet employee went to the back and got me a bandaid from their kit without me even asking. I ordered a donut and a coffee and it was great too!! Its the littles things with businesses like this and kindness goes a LONG way. thank you

E.J. Z.

Yelp
This is the cutest place ever to get a much needdd donut. The service was friendly and good and the donuts were tasty. I really liked the organic coffee they brew too.
google avatar

Christine R.

Yelp
Tried a few of the donut holes here during a day trip to Mystic. We grabbed the cinnamon and sugar, sprinkles, chocolate frosted, butter crunch , blueberry cake, and mint chocolate. Homemade cake-style donuts. Our favorite was the Young Bums by far. The chocolate frosted was a little dry, and the mint chocolate had a funny almost bagel-like texture. Otherwise, the donut holes were a tasty tidbit! Definitely stop here to pick up the butter crunch if you're in the area!
google avatar

Corinne Z.

Yelp
When four doughnuts and 1/2 a dozen doughnut holes fill a box that needs two hands to carry you know you have some substantial eats to look forward to. No airy, squishable chain store forgettables here. Most of our choices seemed 1/2 way between raised and baked doughnuts. So much so we could only eat 1/2 of what we bought. If you can't make up your mind going down the line choosing what to buy know there are bite sized goodies waiting at the end of all the days offerings. Monthly specials make good reasons to go back!
google avatar

Jane S.

Yelp
Mystic cream donut is really good. The other cake donuts were on the dry side... Chocolate glazed, the young bun and pumpkin snickerdoodle. Was pretty disappointed.
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
OMG these doughnuts were incredible. My personal favorite is the Sprinkles one. Loaded with sprinkles. It was like biting into a delicious pillows, if that makes sense, hah!
google avatar

Maggi N.

Yelp
Every time I go to Mystic I have to stop at Young Buns!! First of all the staff is really nice and friendly. Then the donuts and donut holes are delicious! They have different donuts every time I go in there which is nice for a variety. The donuts are big and delicious and I never can just get one!!

Em H.

Yelp
Donuts are okay, nothing special. Very dry and not too flavorful. Beach donuts in Clinton area is hands down the best.
google avatar

Susan R.

Yelp
I agree that these donuts are beautiful, staff is wonderful and they are indeed creative and delicious. A bit too yeasty tasting for me but I'd stop in again if in the area.

Yelp
I think the key to liking or disliking Young Buns Donuts (or Deviant Donuts, its main competitor in town) is going to be your age. I think I might have liked these 25 years ago, but at 60, everything we tried was WAY too sweet and messy. My wife and I never throw food away, but neither of us could stand a second bite of either the Blueberry Glazed or Boston Creme donuts we spent $8 (+ tip) for. We had the same reaction last year to Deviant Donuts, in Olde Mistick Vilage down the road. Lots of people love both these places, so don't let this review be the final word, by any means. I'm just suggesting that, if you're a baby Boomer and you grew up loving the donuts we had as kids, these might be a bit of a disappointment for you.

Yelp
I had a stopover in Mystic on my way from a weekend road trip and this was a delightful find right on the main road. Mystic on Sunday afternoons is pretty lit. It's a quaint little jaunt down this road full of shops and eats for the tourist and local enjoying their last hurrah of the weekend. I was able to order through a pick up window on the side of the place and avoid indoor crowds but missed out on the donut gawking. There are some legit looking pastries there. I opted to try the cinnamon sugar (gluten) and the cream filled "Mystic Cream". The latter is kind of like a Boston crime but lighter in the cream department. I liked the chocolate frosting and the sprinkle of pistachios but was kind of underwhelmed by the cream. The cinnamon sugar, made with brioche, was soooooo good. I'd definitely get fat and sassy on these doughnuts. Glad I am not super close. But hey, treat yourself when the occasion calls for it. And these guys are super shareable, they make them American sized!
