Such an interesting place to visit! Sadly I can not eat lobster but they had a few fish dishes on the menu as well. The food was alright I guess, I like it a bit more flavoured/ spiced but that's just what I'm used to and not really what I expected here anyway. Otherwise it was great. The view from the upstairs windows was gorgeous in the evening. I liked the bring-your-own-everything style dining where families brought their own tablecloths etc. like a big lobster/ crab picnic. Good atmosphere!

Google
(7/27/25) my brother brought me here for my first dining experience here and MY OH MY it will definitely not be my last time here!! Fantastic seafood!!! Fresh right off the lobster boats! We had their steamed lobsters, clams, corn on the cob, and it’s “bring your own drinks” or they offer fountain drinks. I love the atmosphere here. You can place your order and watch the entire process of how they select, weigh, prep, cook, and plate your orders. It is quite an impressive production line they’ve got set up here! There’s seating indoors and the outdoor seating includes ground-level, a second-level deck overlooking the Bay, and picnic tables out front. Plenty of parking spaces. Located conveniently off Route 1. I’ve driven by this lobster pound so many times it’s a sin that I’ve never stopped by here before today! The employees here are amazing and the owner came by twice to check on us and chat with us. This is by far my best experience at a Maine seafood eatery! (I am a year round Maine resident. Highly recommend!!

Google
First time here. Got the lobster stew and the mini lobster roll. My friend got the regular lobster roll (with butter, no mayo) and we shared a slice of blueberry pie. Food was delicious. We sat outside by the water. Great experience, friendly staff. Definitely coming back on my next trip to Maine.

Selly N.

Google
It’s an amazing pick up place to get lobster. We tried the soft shell lobster. One of the best lobster we ever had. Make also sure to order the crab dip. So great, tasty and fresh. Fast and easy ordering process. Very friendly service. Great price value!

Jeff St T.

Google
Martha Stewart told me about Young’s as best lobster roll around. I have to say it was the best one I have ever enjoyed. The area where you order is a little crusty but outside where you can sit in the sun and enjoy the view PARADISE. The bathroom was spotless smelled like bleach. I would drive an hour out of my way to eat here.

Google
Go in with appropriate expectations. It’s not an attractive setting. You’re standing at a counter to order and wondering why it’s $24.95 for the normal size bowl of clam chowder that was mediocre at best. Everyone in my party loved the lobster and said it was the best of the trip. It was $55 for lobster and corn and cole slaw. So each couple spent over $100. Huge mistake on my part ordering the chowder.

Megan Y.

Google
I think if I had been hungrier, this would have been better. I was looking for a light lunch and I was recommended their clam chowder soup. For the size food you get, it was not worth it. Sadly, the food was not very flavorful. The staff was friendly ish. I ordered a drink after my food order was placed and the waiter seemed super upset. The views were awesome though. So that made it better!

CB A.

Google
The lobsters here are tasty and good. I had 2-whole boiled lobsters. Maybe it was an off or slow day but there was only one staff member seemingly working. The place is tired and kind of dumpy. I understand that they catch, store and process lobsters, mussels & crabs but they could easily and simply up the facility, cleanliness, service and vibe.

Yelp
Young's Lobster Pound is the Maine bucket list experience. It's right on the water, so while you're cracking lobster claws you've got that salty ocean breeze and postcard views in the background. Total vibe. The adventure starts before you even eat, you literally get to pick your own lobster from the giant tubs of live lobsters on both sides of the order area. It's like seafood shopping, but way more exciting. We called ahead for 3.75 lb lobsters, and they actually set some huge ones aside just for us. Promise kept. Respect. Now let's talk about the lobster itself: this is the kind of lobster that ruins you for all others. Tender, sweet, buttery perfection, never chewy, never overdone. It was so good, I went seven days in a row just to have lobster for lunch. Honestly, if I lived nearby, I'd probably just set up a tent out back.(not kidding) They've got daily specials too, like an all-you-can-eat crab deal but I couldn't even look at it because I was too busy being monogamous with my lobster. We also tried the swordfish (rich, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth good) and their potato salad, which deserves its own fan club. And for dessert? A classic Maine blueberry pie from a local bakery that tastes like summer in every bite. On top of all that, the staff is fantastic. Harold and a couple of the other team members went out of their way to make us feel taken care of. Between the friendly service, the crazy-fresh seafood, and that unbeatable coastal setting, Young's isn't just a meal, it's an experience. If you're in Maine and don't eat here, you're doing vacation wrong.

Yelp
I visited here on a frigidly cold day in Jan 2026. Take out only during off season. I was led into a really cold space where fresh seafood in water is kept. I ordered a bowl and cup of lobster stew, paid, and waited in my car as instructed. The lobster stew was brought out to me. A simple flavorful, traditional lobster stew broth with chunks and chunks of delectable lobster. My goodness! Divine. I can only imagine how marvelous it must be to dine here in the warmer months, outside on picnic tables with a most spectacular view! I hope to get to do that!
google avatar

Yelp
Lobster is tender and nice, but I can make it myself at home though. It is unusual to serve lobster roll on a round potato bun though. Don't get clam chowder and lobster stew, super watery w tons of potatoes. Where is the cream???Outrageously Overpriced for lack of flavor and wrong consistency.. I've never eaten non creamy clam chowder before.

Yelp
This place is so much fun. It was my first trip to Maine and this is where we celebrated my birthday at the end of September. I needed some time to take it all in and figure out how the ordering process worked. The employees were all friendly and very helpful. You pick out your seafood and whatever else you want, then you receive a number and you go upstairs, find a table to sit at and wait. When your order is ready, they call out your number through a microphone. You pick it up and go back upstairs to enjoy. You cannot get fresher! It was so delicious. The lobster stew was amazing and the whole lobster such a treat. We bought drinks there but you can bring your own. Several people brought their own bottles of wine and wine glasses and enjoyed a drink with their meal. This is the real deal. So much fun and wonderful food.

Yelp
This place is definitely experience where you get to choose. What kind of seafood you want. The lobster was really good. I would say the lobster stew was a little bit drenched in wine so it was a little bit alcoholic more than a soup. In my opinion I wish we try the clam chowder instead The clams that we received had a lot of rocks in them. I think they didn't have enough time to spit out the rocks so it was a little bit difficult to eat them, but the lobster was definitely fresh and Maya is cool because you're right next to the ocean.

Yelp
We loved this rustic, authentic lobster and seafood house located on the docks with a view of the harbor! We were immediately greeted by a friendly staff member who explained the ordering process. After making our selections, we sat at one of the long picnic family-style tables and watched the boats and listened to the birds flying by. Both Indoor and outdoor seating is available. There are large tanks of fresh caught seafood surrounding the kitchen, and you are definitely getting the fresh catches of the day here! We tried the lobster roll, fried crab cakes and crabby lobster sandwiches, all served with potato chips and a few pickle slices. For an authentic, casual meal with super fresh seafood, go to Young's Lobster Pound! Prices were a little high, but they definitely didn't skimp on the portion sizes. Onsite parking and clean bathrooms were an added plus!

Yelp
Service: This place was BUSY during a regular week day afternoon. I cannot imagine this place during the weekends of peak season! The men working here were very friendly and quick! Food: My husband and I both ordered the Lobster Roll ($35 approximately). The lobster was so fresh and delicious! Instead of serving the lobster on the typical New England style hot dog bun, these came on a hamburger bun! The lobster bits were very generous! Ambiance: Very casual. You can sit outside where there were Picnic tables overlooking the water or inside on the second floor of this lobster pound.

Yelp
Off-season, yet always in season, seafood right out of the ocean we're sitting over @ this coastal gem! Ordered the Captains Bucket & after steaming the "free-range" Lobster, Mussels, Clams, Oysters in fresh lemon & rich butter....the taste buds & tummy are sooo happy!
google avatar

Yelp
Best meal I had in Maine! It's right on the water and super casual- you can bring any additional food/drinks/whatever, eat outside or upstairs at picnic tables. It's fun to just wander around while waiting for your food to be ready. It's also not expensive. I got a lobster, corn on the cob, and coleslaw. One of the staff helped me pick a lobster out of the tank. After it and the corn were cooked, he expertly sliced the lobster in a few places that made eating a breeze- didn't even need any special tools. For those who don't like seafood, there are a few options. My husband reported that the chicken sandwich was solid, and he would try the steak tips option.

Yelp
This is a very unique dining experience. A wholesale lobster business where you pick your lobster and they cook it up for you fast casual style served in a foil pan with plastic tableware on picnic tables. This ain't fancy dining! It's a Maine adventure! We went on a Wednesday afternoon and ordered two 2lb soft-shelled lobsters. Two ears of corn, Cole slaw and drinks, $87 plus tip. Everything was cooked perfectly but we didn't care for the Cole slaw. We would go again off peak like we did today. We understand that it gets crazy busy on the weekends!

Yelp
Are you looking for a genuine lobster experience in Maine? Well, Young's is the place to go. What a great time we had! Actually, I can't believe they don't have five stars. Anybody who gave these people bad reviews should seriously reconsider and go back. The atmosphere was amazing and the men working in the kitchen were amazing and we were able to bring our own drinks. It was just really a great experience. We tried lobster rolls everywhere else we could and they just couldn't live up to Young's lobster pound! We came all the way from California and there are no regrets going to Young's lobster Pound. We liked it so much we all got sweatshirts! If you actually want a real experience with delicious lobster, then go to Young's lobster Pound. Forget about those touristy traps over in Belfast and Bar Harbor! I highly recommend Young's
google avatar

Jordon C.

Yelp
If a lobster could tell a tale, it would be about their savory tails at Young's! Absolutely decadent. Let us not forget their clams, crabs, and hot dogs - for those who are a bit too crabby. The staff here are delightful and joyous. Our old crew introduced us to this spot, and we have been there plenty of times since. Play the ring game! My old crew made it themselves!
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
Food was great. Self service was a little confusing. I was able to park close to the picnic table which really helped my handicap relative.
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and the crew working there are so pleasant and nice and you can tell they are having a great time. Lobsters were good, mussels (which I don't normally like) were good. Unfortunately the clams had a lot of sand still in them and were not edible. Fun experience with friends!
google avatar

Blake R.

Yelp
I called and they said they were open for the season. We drive an hour to eat and they said they were open for takeout only. Frustrating :-(
google avatar

Yelp
So good! Fresh lobster to order! Get the clam chowder - more like a soup but delicious. Haddock sandwich was yummy as well!!
google avatar

Doc L.

Yelp
This place is an outstanding deal! The crabs. Lobster and mussels were very fresh and delicious. If you're a potato chip conisuer they have a unique variety of flavors to choose from and we loved the dill Cajun chips! The service was adequate and friendly. The atmosphere consisted of pick Nick tables on a deck overlooking the harbor. They also had plenty of inside seating available. The bathrooms were clean and tidy. I can't say enough about this place. What a value! I'm so glad that I walked away from the other local restaurant that I tried going to buy it had a 40 minute wait to get food. I also liked their selection of seafood to chose from or it's also a fish market so you can purchase fish to take home and cook it yourself. This is the place to eat in Belfast!!!
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
You can't beat the location - amazing outdoor seating. Lobster roll was expensive, but good. They LOADED it with fresh, made to order lobster so I'd say it was worth it. Clam chowder was also expensive and not great in my opinion, but it was also loaded with a lot of clam meat. They don't scrimp on the meat! Staff was friendly and welcoming. It was fun to stroll around the facility while we waited for our food.
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
This is a classic Maine lobster pound joint. You walk into a huge, barn-like waterfront structure that's filled with holding ponds for lobsters and crabs. You place your order inside and take a seat on the many picnic tables overlooking the water outside. An excellent public address system -- amazingly clear sound -- tells you when your order is ready for pickup. My wife and I shared a "crabster" crab and lobster roll and seafood and lobster chowders. The food was excellent. Well worth the stop!

Tray P.

Yelp
Great, friendly service!! Bring your own cooler of drinks. Dog friendly. Self serve and not fancy, but dining outside on a picnic table, looking out at that view!! While the lobster boats are pulling right up to the dock and unloading?!! And the prices?!? Best dining experience ever. Love this place!!

Martha C.

Yelp
Picked up a great lobster roll and coleslaw!! So much lobster. Freshly made right before our eyes!!

Yelp
LOCATION: Young's Lobster Pound and Seafood Restaurant is located off Route 1, and as expected for a lobster pound, connected to a harbor. EXPERIENCE: I came across Young's Lobster Pound and Seafood Restaurant during an early summer afternoon just as they were opening for prepared food service. Since Young's harvests, sells, and prepares lobsters a visit is an ideal way to experience Maine culture and food. A variety of freshly prepared shellfish and lobster combinations are on the menu. Lobster and shellfish are plucked from one of many aquarium tanks at the pound. Fish dishes and rolls (including lobster rolls) are available too. AMBIANCE: An interior dining area upstairs allows customers to dine while overlooking Belfast Bay. This was fortuitous for us, as a torrential downpour began shortly after our arrival, making a visit to a roadside lobster roll joint far less attractive. That said, harbor front picnic tables are also available. Another benefit of making Young's your destination, rather than a roadside shack, is the availability of a conventional bathroom for guests to wash their hands before and after enjoying their seafood platters. SERVICE: Service is efficient. There is a system for taking and preparing orders made at the counter and online. TIPS: One benefit of the food ordering and preparation process at Young's is that opportunity to see platters and combinations as they are picked up may help you decide what to order yourself ! Take out orders can be submitted online via TOAST, making it easy to plan to swing by Young 's at just the right time.

Yelp
We spent 10 days in New England area, and this is one of our highlights. Everything is fresh, view is amazing, the staff was awesome. I highly recommend.

Stephen G.

Yelp
Our first time here. Incredible deal on a bucket for 2: 2 lobsters, 2 corn on cob, 2lb steamers, 2lb mussels for $80. Huge amount of food. Only complaint was everything a bit salty for my taste. Maybe they boil it all in sea water? People in the know brought their own wine and beer, table cloths to cover the not too clean picnic tables and even silver ware. Great view on water. Down and dirty lobster pound no frills. Good experience.
google avatar

Amy B.

Yelp
Can't beat the price and freshness. Many options. There is coleslaw and corn sides which are great! Bring your own potato salad, beer or wine, and picnic tablecloth (or just wipe to wipe off the picnic tables... they keep them pretty clean) to complete the meal. Very nice experience and friendly staff. There are clean bathrooms inside too.
google avatar

Lesley J.

Yelp
Great spot for super fresh seafood. This place is a no frills order as is and super fresh food right on the water. It's order at the counter and byob so keep that in mind if you want something more than a soda. Also it is not a place you are going to order a fried clam plate. They don't do fried anything which I kind of appreciate. I ordered a haddock sandwich and shared steamers. I'd go back for that sandwich for sure. Was a fun surprise when asked If I wanted mayo or tartar sauce. Tarter all the way!

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
We found this place after searching for a place to get lobster rolls, we are picky and come to Maine yearly, we read the reviews and my husband was concerned to have a lobster roll on a hamburger bun but let me tell you, he was impressed with the amount of the lobster and we all loved how fresh and tasty it was. Bonus, it's a BYOB and this place is true Maine, the service was awesome and we'll be bsck
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
Nothing fancy. Just good lobster at a decent price made by a bunch of guys having a great time. Good potato salad too.
google avatar

Derek B.

Yelp
Food was pretty good and good value. Rating area was fairly dirty. Employees appeared to be foreign and were kind of hard to understand. Location is amazing.
google avatar

Yelp
Love it! BYOB Enjoy the lobsters clams and many more. Credit card is accepted What else?

Yelp
So we were almost reaching Bar Harbor, but afraid what if all the restaurants closed? so we googled nearby restaurants while driving - and found this. yes, we were aware that restaurants in Bar Harbor Town are quite expensive - and read (while researching) that few local joints offer straight-out-of-the-sea lobsters/shrimp on a pound basis. it is that sort of restaurant (?) It's nothing fancy - a tried and true Maine lobster shack, built over the water with picnic tables and a gorgeous view of the harbor. it is a picnic-style lobster pound right on the water. When you reach here, you can see it's just one small section where they boil lobsters-shrimp and everything, and the rest of the sections- are where they keep their catches... we ordered- Seafood Sampler - I thought it would be more but just a few shrimps and 2 lobster tails (small) Grilled chicken Sandwich - amazing They have a sitting arrangement on the patio and upstairs and what a gorgeous view of the harbor - we spend our evening here watching the sunset.... a great stop...

ME M.

Yelp
Overpriced !!! 36.00 lobster roll Chowder 25.00! Stop ripping off customers Needless to say , we did not eat there
google avatar

Jessica K.

Yelp
What a treat!!! You walk in and pick out your lobster. They boiled in right there. Grab a seat in the water while you wait. The freshest, most delicious lobster I have ever had! The lobster roll was also in point! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and clearly a hidden, no frills gem!

Catherine K.

Yelp
Lobster was great... service was fast. Cole slaw was delicious. Definitely a great place for fresh lobster. Very casual place but fun atmosphere.

Debbie

Yelp
This is authentic Maine!! Bring your own tablecloth & byob, plant down on a picnic table & enjoy the view. The food is excellent, it is self serve, they are efficient & fast. Great for large parties and for children.
google avatar

C.C. G.

Yelp
Ok. So this is a down and dirty lobster pound. Figuratively, not literally. it doesn't get much more authentic. The lobster was fresh and delicious. There are other offerings, but it was suggested we stick to lobster and that was what we were here for anyway! Here are some tips... What to bring: Drinks. BYOB beer and wine. I suggest a tablecloth...a picnic type, not a fancy type. If you bring your dog (which we did), you must sit outside on the deck. Shade is very limited (depending on the time of day). Be prepared with a hat and sunscreen in case all the shade is taken. If you bring wine, bring your own glass and if you want ice, bring it for your cup. For your dog... They must be on leash and bring water and bowl. Only well behaved dogs will be welcome and are not welcomed inside (up or down). Place your order at the live lobster tank and they will give you an order number. It will be called on the back deck and inside the building when ready. You pay when order is delivered at pick up counter. We ordered the "twin" lobster dinner (at lunch) so that we could each take one of them home. Bring a cooler. Ice is available for purchase. You can order more butter, but we found the amount supplied was plenty. It was a great choice. They offered to "crack" them for us and we took them up on that offer. It made eating much easier with less fuss. Bathroom are upstairs and were clean and supplied. No complaints. All in all, it was a great experience and I would happily come back. Next time a little more prepared!

Tammy S.

Yelp
This is a total tourist TRAP! My husband and went and we got 1 lobster with streamer, a bowl (horrible clam chowder, it was fish soup for $25.00) and a sandwich. It was over $90.00. I do not recommend this place! They even charge you an extra fee if you want to do take out.

Lanae B.

Yelp
No frills but tasty reasonable prices. One of the lowest prices for lobster around the area.
google avatar

Christine Y.

Yelp
The crabster roll was so good. It was so big. The seafood was so fresh! And the people who we talked to about lobsters were very kind and let us hold a 5 pound lobster! I highly recommend, it is the best meal we've had in Maine!
google avatar

M G.

Yelp
Best lobster roll I've ever had. Simple but beautiful spot. A little chaotic with ordering & waiting for our order but definitely worth it.
google avatar

Roger G.

Yelp
This place is an unusual lobster pound. Good unusual. So many lobsters in all those tanks is amazing. The upstairs picnic tables are unusually unstable. But the food and the view is worth it.
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
The outdoor seating is refreshing. The lobster is cooked to order and the accompaniments are great! A must see!!

Deann G.

Yelp
Nice experience. My husband picked his own 4lb lobster from the fresh tanks and they steamed it right there. We ate on the picnic tables on the dock.
google avatar

Allison D.

Yelp
Amazing lobster roll - best we've had while here this season. LOTS of lobster meat and served with potato chips.

Dorothy L.

Yelp
This is the best place for seafood fresh and plentiful. Didn't wait too long and the lobster and clams were just right. Love this place
google avatar

Molly C.

Yelp
Mind blown!!! I asked an owner of a local antique shop if she had one day in Maine where would she eat lunch and she said YOUNG'S LOBSTER POUND and WOW it did not disappoint! We had the lobster roll, potato salad and coleslaw. Every bite was delicious. Everyone working there seemed to be having a really good time! We sat out on the deck and took in the beautiful view while eating our incredible meal. What a perfect Maine experience!
google avatar

Darrell M.

Yelp
Average lobster pound. Nothing fancy at all. Rustic. Lobster and steamers good. Lobster stew , corn, average. Service was difficult. Very difficult to understand men working there. Hard to understand their system. Picnic tables were very rustic. Serve yourself.

Rachel S.

Yelp
Such awesome food . We got the lobsters and steamers. Needless to say we went back three nights in a row
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Views of the water with a no thrills pound. We came for lunch and got a lobster & clams meal and the lobster roll (hamburger roll instead). Gave us a number and came back in 20 mins. Lobster was wonderful. They cracked it for us. Lobster roll was full of meat. They take credit cards.
