Young's Lobster Pound is the Maine bucket list experience. It's right on the water, so while you're cracking lobster claws you've got that salty ocean breeze and postcard views in the background. Total vibe.
The adventure starts before you even eat, you literally get to pick your own lobster from the giant tubs of live lobsters on both sides of the order area. It's like seafood shopping, but way more exciting. We called ahead for 3.75 lb lobsters, and they actually set some huge ones aside just for us. Promise kept. Respect.
Now let's talk about the lobster itself: this is the kind of lobster that ruins you for all others. Tender, sweet, buttery perfection, never chewy, never overdone. It was so good, I went seven days in a row just to have lobster for lunch. Honestly, if I lived nearby, I'd probably just set up a tent out back.(not kidding)
They've got daily specials too, like an all-you-can-eat crab deal but I couldn't even look at it because I was too busy being monogamous with my lobster. We also tried the swordfish (rich, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth good) and their potato salad, which deserves its own fan club. And for dessert? A classic Maine blueberry pie from a local bakery that tastes like summer in every bite.
On top of all that, the staff is fantastic. Harold and a couple of the other team members went out of their way to make us feel taken care of. Between the friendly service, the crazy-fresh seafood, and that unbeatable coastal setting, Young's isn't just a meal, it's an experience. If you're in Maine and don't eat here, you're doing vacation wrong.
