London Restaurant Reviews: Oklava Bakery + Wine Is Almost Amazing | Eater London

"A bare-bones yet utterly delightful café off the Finchley Road serving homely Korean fare that punches above its modest size: golden-brown seafood pajeon, shatteringly crisp chicken wings drenched in a sweet and fiery gochujang glaze, and a 'star turn' yukgaejang beef soup—spicy, deeply sustaining and full of comforting depth. While larger Korean restaurants may offer longer, more sophisticated menus, few match the charm and beguiling simplicity of this neighbourhood spot." - George Reynolds

Delicious food with good portions for the price. The kimchi pancake was terrific, but my favourite was the spicy tteokbokki. I recommend buying freshly made kimchi from the store too. It may seem expensive compared to prepackaged kimchi but the quality exceeds the price.

Food: A lot of the food hit the mark. I think that the soups and the dish I ordered, the spicy pork was really good. It had a nice kick to it and was spicy but not overwhelming. I think they make a lot of their food from scratch and it was very authentic. Service: Hit and miss. We went as a group of 5 people, and even though we came in later on during the service they were able to seat us quickly. That part I did appreciate and the food did take a while but granted it appeared to be made fresh. The downside is that I ordered a tap water and wished that I could have more refills of that and only got one cup. Atmosphere: Considering we were there closer to the end of service... The atmosphere was still really good. There was a small and comfy vibe inside and a lot of people seemed to be enjoying themselves. This is a place worth visiting I'd say and don't let the supermarket front fool you, there's a lovely restaurant underneath.

Got the doenjang jjigae. The soup itself is decent, but the ingredients were ridiculously little. No meat, barely a quarter of a cucumber, definitely less than one mushroom in slices, and a few small pieces of tofu. Its affordable but greatly unsatisfying

The taste is good, but the portion is way too small. I ordered "spicy beef soup" for £13.5, but as shown in the pic, the portion of beef per serving was even less than the size of my fist (I'm a female with small hand).

Perfect home-style and authentic Korean food made fresh. The stews are full of flavour and spicy 🌶️ with a good selection of vegetarian options as well. Plus if you like the recipe you can always buy the ingredients upstairs to make it at home later!

Been twice within 3 days which shows how great it is. Situated underneath the convenience store, it's a cozy area with a large cooking area, the food was delicious, well sized and great value for money. The service was top notch and prompt, can't wait to go again to try a bingsoo!

Cute little eatery underneath a Korean grocers. Fast, simple yet refreshingly tasty beef bibimbap. Exactly what I needed at the end of the day, as I went for dinner around 5pm. Not sure if they are normally quiet but it was reasonably empty at that time. Seating wise there is limited number of people they’ll be able to fit in, so can imagine if they get busy it may be bit cramped. Hope to pop by again soon.

The restaurant is hidden underneath the Korean supermarket. The restaurant is just like it’s name “your mum’s kitchen”. Authentic Korean food and really affordable. Downsides have been previously mentioned in other reviews: The male owner seems a little bit grumpy sometimes.
