"At this Jack London Square soul food restaurant, the dishes are so large that you'll have to pace yourself. Some are compelling enough to test the limits of your stomach, like fried catfish with garlic noodles that comes with two flaky, moist filets the size of your forearm. Others? Not so much. Greasy crab cake egg rolls require repeated dunks in tart chili sauce to tone down their heaviness. Gumbo is delicious but imbalanced, with 80% seafood and meat and just a splash of broth. And the fried shrimp po’boy's gigantic crispy crustaceans overwhelm the sandwich's two deflated pieces of bread. Most people file in and out of the place to pick up takeout orders, so the all-black dining room stays fairly quiet. But as long as you choose your dishes wisely, it's a solid place for a filling meal when it's 9pm on a weeknight. Food Rundown photo credit: Patrick Wong Crab Cake Egg Rolls This is essentially crab dip inside of an egg roll wrapper. The filling’s creamy and the shell is crispy, but it’s all oil-slicked. And the accompanying cup of sweet chili sauce can only do so much to lighten everything up. photo credit: Patrick Wong Fried Catfish & Garlic Noodles Combo The garlic noodles lean sweet, but complement the saltiness from the catfish well. The only problem is that the herbed cornmeal breading refuses to stay put on the juicy fish. It's a bit of a challenge to get everything in each bite. Still worth an order, though. photo credit: Patrick Wong Gumbo Keep an eye on the daily specials to find limited-supply dishes like this one. This bowl is so full of crab legs, shrimp, and sausage that it’s almost impossible to add the rice into it. The broth itself is savory and delicious—we just wish there was a lot more of it. photo credit: Patrick Wong Fried Shrimp Po’Boy The huge fried shrimp are crunchy and covered in shredded lettuce and a tangy thousand island-ish sauce. But the sandwich feels incomplete with a squished roll that you’ll barely notice. Prioritize the catfish over this." - Patrick Wong

Spent the day in Oakland with the family. A friend recommended Y's choice so I couldn't wait to check them out. I was able to speak with the owner and hear her backstory. She did mention they were a little short staffed but our order would be out soon. I thought everything came out in decent time. We got the crab cake eggs rolls, oxtail with mac and cheese and greens, lobster tail with garlic noodles, and garlic shrimp meal. My BIL got the catfish po'boy. We liked everything. The portions were huge and everything had good flavor. The crab cakes were nice and crispy and all crabmeat inside no breadcrumbs. The oxtail was tender. My daughter enjoyed her garlic shrimp and steamed rice. I will definitely be back.

I recently had Y’s Choice Restaurant cater an event for me, and I couldn’t be more impressed! From the very beginning, their team was professional, accommodating, and detail-oriented, making the entire process effortless. The food was absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. Y’s Choice truly exceeded my expectations! If you're looking for top-notch catering or a plate of soul food in the Bay Area, I highly recommend you check them out!

GUUUURRRLLL YAAASSS! Home cooked food for the soul. Get you some! Guys too now! Black family owned AND operated! Bomb comfort food. Pool table, TVs and a great old school play list. The owner came and greeted us too. Her story was captivating as well. Loved everything about this spot.

Google
First time there food was good, service was cool and atmosphere was nice n social. There is a pool table to play while u wait for your food. Garlic noodles were bomb, with healthy portion of Fried Catfish n Honey Pepper Wings n Fries with the chillin cold lemonade.

I’ve been wanting to try Y’s Choice for two years, and it was absolutely worth the wait. The gumbo was phenomenal—rich, flavorful, and loaded with big, fresh shrimp, tender crab, and perfectly seasoned sausage. The turkey was fall-off-the-bone tender, the dressing with gravy was pure magic, the yams were perfectly sweet, and the greens were seasoned to perfection. Everything was incredible, and I’m so glad I finally made it out. Y’s Choice has earned a new regular—you’ll definitely be seeing me weekly!

I’ve been looking for a good soul food spot in Oakland for a minute now, and have tried just about every restaurant there is, so when Y’s showed up on my food delivery apps and I didn’t recognize it, I was eager to try. I had the Rasta Pasta w/Salmon, Catfish side, Wing side (lemon pepper flavor) and the cool aid was complimentary with a purchase of > $25. -Portions are decent. 10/10 -Presentation (packaged well, and aesthetically pleasing) 10/10 -Cool Aid was a nice throwback and not too sweet. 9/10 -Food temp/preparation: Overall 8.5/10 Salmon was cooked almost throughout the entire filet a nice medium to medium well, which I prefer but in small areas it was a little more cooked than I’d like. 9/10 Catfish was cooked to perfection. Hot, flaky, a little crispiness, light golden brown! 10/10 Lemon Pepper Wing - Was cooked juicy and golden brown and hot, however, it was wet so there wasn’t a crispiness to the skin and the lemon flavor was overpowering IMO. I only ordered lemon pepper because they don’t give you an option to choose just plain chicken wings- you must select a flavor and one of the “flavors” is salt and pepper, however they charge an additional $3.50 for it. Since when did salt and pepper not be included in just the simple seasoning process, and now you have to pay for it verses the other sauces/flavors?! This makes absolutely zero sense to me. And I’ll get to the seasoning efforts or lack there of later. 8/10 Rasta Pasta: Plentiful, looked delicious and pasta was cooked to my liking not too firm and just enough give with plenty of sauce. 10/10 Now onto Taste - 0/10 I read a few reviews where folks noted there food was too salty, on the contrary here, I didn’t taste a lick of salt in any of my dishes and that was truly disappointing and completely dissatisfying. I already mentioned the lemon pepper wing re taste, however, the salmon, catfish and pasta tasted like there was no salt, pepper, obay, just any type of salty, savory or regular seasonings whatsoever and what most soul food households are accustomed to using, tasting and enjoying. The catfish although cooked to perfection and golden brown was white underneath the batter and all throughout. Everything was so terribly bland. That said, I couldn’t finish any of it and that’s really upsetting and why I will not be patronizing Y’s Choice again and my search for a good soul food spot is sadly back on again.

We dine in with the kids, you have to order at the little counter, they won't come to your table to place the order, it took 54mins to get our food to the table, SMH, they do have alot of pick up orders and door dash, the place is very very basic, tables are very small, it like for bar, music kinda loud, but they played kinda old school R&B, not to bad on the music, but the atmosphere is not that great for a family to dine in, imo. The food is great, but waiting for nearly an hour, I don't think so, your better off calling it in and picking it up in a hour.

Vernita Jefferson

Google
Thinly fish fillets mostly breading, 4pc chicken were wingettes but the shrimp were large well seasoned. I have yet to taste my shrimp & grits! Skimpy on the portions for the money I paid. I drove from over 100 miles away. It took quite a bit of time to get my order I left & came back within 15 mins of that I finally got my order. Staff was nice but bathrooms were nasty.

Yelp
5 Stars - Best Soul Food in the Bay, Hands Down! If you're looking for the BEST soul food in the Bay, look no further! The flavors are on point, the portions are generous, and every bite tastes like it was made with love. From the perfectly fried chicken to the rich, creamy mac & cheese, everything was chef's kiss. That said, be prepared to wait--this spot is popular, and it took about an hour to get our food. But trust me, it's worth it. Whether you're craving crispy catfish, tender collard greens, or cornbread that melts in your mouth, this place delivers. If you're in a rush, maybe order ahead. But if you've got the time, grab a seat and enjoy the experience. Either way, you won't regret it!

So P.

Yelp
First and foremost had to wait an hour to get my food and it was not a busy night at all! When I get there after placing my order online was told they didn't have my order... then come to find out they did... then was lied to and said my order would be ready in 10mins when in fact I had to wait an hour after. The lamb chops was the small lollipops! Was burnt! The yams taste like canned! The Mac and cheese was dried out and tasted like they have been sitting in the plastic container the dinner came in! The chicken had NO flavor and the grease was old that it was cooked in ! The salmon Rasta pasta had NO flavor ; just plain ! Only thing was good was the fried fish and prawns since that was the only thing that seemed to be fresh & hot! Couldn't believe I wasted my money & time for some food that wasn't even fresh or good. Y'all be lying and over hyping things on these reviews... smh

CW P.

Yelp
This is the BEST soul food in Oakland! I just left here and had "family dinner" and watched the dang Raiders choke! The turkey wings were tender my grandson said the fish was hella good ( he's a true Oaklander) the oxtails were good and the portions are more than fair. I just wish they were more than a take out spot and really made it more accommodating for dining in. But that does not take away from the food and the service

Sun L.

Yelp
First time here Clean and tidy Quick service Nice friendly Fair price, good portions, even have leftovers

Yelp
I saw a review about this restaurant on facebook, so I thought I would give it a try for lunch. It's not large restaurant but it is comfortable. I ordered the chicken wings, prawns, and catfish combo, with red beans, rice, and greens as my sides. The food was seasoned very well. I expected chicken wings, but got chicken drummettes. If you advertise chicken wings you should give chicken wings and not drummettes. I enjoyed everything except the drummettes. They were fried to hard. I could eat the red beans and rice all day long they were so good. I will visit this restaurant again.

Dennis W. W.

Yelp
This was my first visit to this establishment, and my meal was very good, I had the Combo 3, which included fried fish, shrimps and chicken, I shared with my wife who ordered the Ox-Tails, she was pleased but thought the Ox-Tails could have cooked a bit longer...but they were tasty. A friend at our table ordered the Gumbo, and she started to sweat, because it was too darn hot...I am from Cajun Country and Gumbo does not have to be so spicy, where you can't feel your tongue, overall I will return.

Erika B.

Yelp
Delicious food, great service, all the sides were the bomb! Gumbo was full of crab and the broth was ohhh so good! and would absolutely will recommend you make a visit!

Kendra W.

Yelp
So we have been walking past this place honestly for over a year and now I'm so so sad we did not stop in until just now! When you walk in the door you get this heavenly aroma of seafood and deliciousness! You can just tell the food is seasoned with love from the smell! We ordered our food and honestly it was hard to choose just a few items. We got the crab cake egg rolls I mean wow mind blowing! We got catfish which was fried to perfection and it was huge not some baby little nuggets. We got the shrimp and fries and last but not least the garlic noodles with garlic parm wings. All of it was good not one bad thing to report. The woman who helped us order was nice and the food came out really quickly. Next time we go I wanna go on the day they serve yams because they really look delicious! We just hope to make it back soon and we definitely want to recommend others to check out this hidden gem in jack London!

Dell W.

Yelp
They definitely need to teach the young man at the register customer service skills. He seemed as if he did not want to be there. The food was not good. There were 3 in my group and none of us liked it. The fish was too salty, the mac and cheese was tasteless with areas of cheese chunks. The yams were just ok. It was a waste of money since we barely ate our food and threw it out.

Mechelle A.

Yelp
I've been going to y for over a few years and everything she cooks is from the heart !!! Home made fresh cooking !! Support your local owned woman business!!! EVERYTHING is a hit !!

J M.

Yelp
I wanted this food to taste super good. I wanted some good food. However it did not the fish was salty, chicken hella dry rubbery taste like it was cooked on old grease. Mac and cheese had no flavor. The yams appeared to be from the can. $85.00 later it was a no.l had to throw away. I debated on commenting and thought it was just an off day. But l see others experienced the poor customer service, long wait and tasteless food.

Yelp
I am excited for this new establishment that has opened near Jack London right on 3rd and Broadway. Saturday night , me and two of my daughters settled on Y's for dinner. Our first time. The entrance give somewhat of a sporty vibe with some jersey's framed, a couple tv's on the walls, and a pool table . There's a second room that ended up being closed off shortly after we arrived. We walked to the small counter and was greeted and informed that we need to order before being seated. We took a while and reviewed the menu and settled on oyster Rockefeller for an appetizer and the following entrees: 1. Bbq wings with fries 2. Oxtails dinner special with cabbage and mac n cheese (rice with gravy comes with the oxtails and a cornbread muffin as well) 3. Catfish plate with red beans and greens Oh, the girls had koolaid! About 10 minutes later the oysters came out. The girls enjoyed them, me, the sauce was nothing like I have ever had before and it was a not for me... tangy and peppery. Wing dinner got a thumbs up; the oxtail dinner rated an 7.5. The beef, rice, and gravy was good however the chosen sides weren't impressive. My catfish was fried really well- well coated, & fried hard. I didn't expect both sides to have meat in it but that's ok. The red beans were seasoned well, tender, and enjoyable. I didn't care for the greens. The customer service along with atmosphere was a 5/10. It was cold as hell in the restaurant. There were way more Door Dash and to go orders moving around than dine in folks but there were 3 tables of folks shivering and waiting to eat. Someone, possibly the proprietor, came and opened the front door to air out what seemed to be smoke. The only utensils were plastic, and plastic that bent and withered when meeting the plates of food. The food came out of nice dinnerware so I am hoping real flatware will show up soon for diners. Now, go for the Koolaid!!!! $4 It's delicious! I would go back for the fish and get the fries. I think both my daughters would repeat their orders. I am interested in going back, on a warm day, to try their version of "Arts" crab and shrimp plate. Old school OAKLAND! I gotta see this!

Janine L.

Yelp
This is the place to go for both soul food and seafood! We ordered the Big Unc with a little of everything - crab, lobster, lamb chops, and garlic noodles. If you like garlic, this is the dish to order. Such a big portion, even with two people we couldn't finish it. Garlic noodles were so delicious, perfect balance of garlic and butter. The lobster was incredible, garlicky and sweet meat. Lamb chops were tender and well seasoned. Crab meat was sweet. The shells were soft and pre-cracked, making it easy to eat. The whole plate was the perfect combination of everything to try! We also had one of the specials, only on Thursdays, lasagna. So cheesy and thick. I was surprised after talking to the chef that they use turkey meat. Healthy and still tasty, I didn't even know! I just assumed it was beef. It also came with chicken wings and a Caesar salad, Great combo. The chicken wings were perfectly battered and crispy and yet juicy inside. The restaurant has both sit down and to go. You go up and order and have a seat. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Food is made fresh but also didn't take too long, about 20 mins to come out. The interior has a sport bar feel with a pool table. Everything was so good and definitely will be coming back!

Yelp
Y's Choice food was amazingly delicious. Flavored to perfection. Generous portions. Beautifully presented. Served timely & hot. Dynamic menu- with assortment of dishes with fair pricing. The food is definitely something to brag about!!! Service was mediocre; served with a smile, menu, and plastic utensils to dine in. NOTHING MORE. No, can I start y'all off with something to drink. Our names are, let me know...blah blah blah...lack of customer service. Y's Choice is centrally located in a cool location. The inside small, dark and lacks ambiance. Has a pool table and no large group sitting. The music was good, but shared aux code with someone's phone. My advice...Food is too good not to experience - order to go and enjoy the views of Jack London square. *not pictured chicken wings / fries

Dakota R.

Yelp
We enjoyed our food at Y's choice.. The crab cake egg roll is what really drew me in.. it was amazing! The shrimp was seasoned perfectly and tasted amazing, as well as the crab legs. Not only that, but it was only a short walk from our hotel.I'd definitely recommend trying this place out.

Tif J.

Yelp
A true gem! I came across this black-owned restaurant on Ubereats and decided to stop by and it truly did NOT disappoint. Turkey Chop Dinner came with 2 sides, we got cabbage and Mac and baby it was delicious. The turkey chops were smothered and seasoned to perfection(they were even better the next day), the Mac n cheese was not overly cheesy and was seasoned well and that cabbage was seasoned perfectly and I loved the fact that it was cooked with turkey meat! The crab & prawns were perfectly sauced and seasoned and the garlic noodles were "smacking" not dry at all! I also got the yams which were also a hit! They had the RIGHT amount of sweetness but still were savory, which i appreciate because it's easy to overly sweeten yams. Overall, this is a must try + return! And did I mention the owner was very sweet and accommodating, checking to make sure everything was good during our dining experience. 10/10! We'll be back! But in the meantime, yall go try!

Angel P.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of dining here with with our Grandsons! The food was absolutely outstanding! The presentation of each dish was beautiful and complimented with colorful orchids. We started with the amazing Crab cakes and each of us had a different entree. The food was seasoned to perfection and I was absolutely blown away on how flavorful everything was, particularly the prawns! The portions are generous and each of us has more than enough for dinner tomorrow. We are still talking about the great food we enjoyed and will definitely be returning for more!

T J.

Yelp
I a met a group of people at Ys on Saturday. Everyone had something different and everyone enjoyed their food. They all had good things to say about the fish, chicken, greens, etc. The owner (Y) made me a delicious garden salad w/ salmon. I know..i know...who goes to a soul food restaurant asking for a salad...don't judge me....lol. Y came out and engaged with our group and shared some of her future plans with us. I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Mel O.

Yelp
Love to support my people, but the lady working the register had the most unwelcoming energy and unprofessional attitude. It was my first time going and it definitely wasn't the experience I was expecting. I was accompanied with a couple other people who also noticed how poor the quality of customer service was. No smiles. No welcoming greetings upon entry. Just dryness. It' was as tho the lady could not care less about our presence in their establishment. We were told multiple items were unavailable. She was looking at her phone the entire time while talking, never acknowledging her customer or giving any alternative recommendations. I paid $40 for 4 party wings, 5 miniature shrimp and some garlic noodles. We also had to return because they were missing like 3 items from a separate order. The food wasn't bad, but a bit overpriced for the quantity in my opinion. However, quality of service is much more important to me, and unfortunately I wasn't able to receive any during my first visit.

Takeia W.

Yelp
Awesome choice for a day out with husband!! The food was on point...Y's Choice was definitely a Wise choice!! The presentation, the flavor was out of sight. My husband and I will definitely be back. I can't wait to taste the Oxtails!!

Twonesha J.

Yelp
I just called via telephone today 2 inquire about my order and the lady who got on the phone VERY RUDE very unprofessional and when I let her know I was going to take my business elsewhere because of her being rude and unprofessional she replied 'I don't care and that's fine' that's not a good look for the business

Lorenzo A.

Yelp
OMG the food here was a 10 all day, some of the best Gumbo I've had in a long time. Turkey chops were as well

Lulu H.

Yelp
Do not waste your time ordering here wait over an hour and they still won't give you an update on how long your foods going to take. Ended up leaving with NO food and the owner had the audacity to lie and say I lied about never getting my order. Very disappointed

Portia P.

Yelp
3 words.. SALMON RASTA PASTA! I'm totally obsessed.. so is everyone else because I tried to order a few days ago & they didn't have it. I can't go for that! It's a big portion so takes me 2 days to eat, but the next day after that seasoning settle & a sprinkle of parmesean cheese.. it's a WINNER DINNER! I also had crab egg rolls, filled with real crab and paired with sweet/sour sauce. They're packed to perfection with crab. Get the 4 or you'll regret it later. I suggest ordering ahead if in a rush or be prepared to wait as food is cooked to order. Enjoy!

Steffy W.

Yelp
Ordered their food for delivery. Was truly expecting the worst because seafood does not typically travel well. Colour me impressed because Y's manages to cook the seafood perfectly so that they didn't arrive in a congealed mess or tasted like rubber!! Order the cousin and it was DELISH!! The garlic noodle is definitely where it's at. My son ate two helpings. They did the shrimp right. We had both sautéed and grilled. Both were flavourful and delish. The lobster was pre-shucked and cut into bite size, cooked and then stuffed back into the shell. So it was super flavorful and just perfectly cooked. The lamb chop was tasty but a bit on the dry side.... But that's just me because I prefer lamb more medium rare. We will definitely order from them again!!!

Che S.

Yelp
The ambiance I would give a 1 no decor, cold and my friends said walking to the bathroom and in the bathroom it smelled like sewage. Customer service is a 2.5. The food ordering process and turnaround time is wild. You have to go to the front to place your order but if you are with a large group like myself party of 5 we each placed our orders individually but our orders were brought out 5-30 or more minutes apart from each other. So when everyone else was done eating my friend and I were just getting our food. The wait time was long for food after we ordered it was at least a hour before we all got our food. I will say they made a kind gesture my friend complained about her yams not being hot enough they brought her more and some banana pudding and apologized for the inconvenience. I will give them an additional .5 for that.My food was a 4 prawn po boy and fries prawns cooked and seasoned to perfection and so were the fries The sandwich could've been a little bigger the aioli sauce .Mac n cheese a 1 dries out fast. Pound cake french toast 4 Turkey wings rice and gravy a 1 ( primarily off presentation ) I tasted the "gravy" and it was like water very watery like soup and greasy. So I didn't bother tasting the wings. You couldn't even see the rice it was under the soupy" gravy". The yams were decent a 2.5. My friend said her chicken was fried to Gods. The crabcake eggrolls I would definitely go back but for take out and call my order in if an option.

Angileena H.

Yelp
Omg! My brother and I found this hidden gem on social media and Y did not disappoint. We ordered combo 1&2 with Mac n cheese greens and yams and baby when I tell you the ancestors blessed her hands. The food was made with so much love. The customer service was so great we were welcomed as soon as we walked into the door. The food is made fresh at order and it was worth the wait. We even were greeted by the owner she's such a beautiful soul. We will be bringing our mother back here because she is going to love this place. I can't wait to come back.

Jeanell J.

Yelp
We ordered whole crab, shrimp & mushrooms, and oxtail dinner w/ mac & cheese, and cabbage. Plus, a peach cobbler. The seafood was buttery, garlicky and delicious. My 7yo ordered from somewhere else, but decided he wanted seafood after seeing my plate. We enjoyed crab, the shrimp was slightly overcooked and the sautéed garlic was SOOOOO GOOOD. The oxtails were also tasty, but the sides were not done well. The macaroni was overcooked and mushy, and taste heavy on the processed cheese. The cabbage was also overcooked. There was no texture to it, just mush. Plus, the sides weren't seasoned well. Customer service was thoroughly lacking. I felt unwanted, and had I not placed my order & paid online, I would have turned around and left without ordering. As long as pleasant & welcoming customer service isn't important to you, this place may be worth a visit for the seafood.

Darcy B.

Yelp
Now the inside doesn't look like much. The service was slow you will be waiting on your food. The food is good it is worth the wait. I will be back to try other items on the menu.

Yelp
Had the randomest craving for a peach cobbler and THANK GOODNESS Y's Choice is open late cause OMG this is amazing! Pleaseeeee stop in and grab a slice!! Personnel is so friendly and the environment is warm and welcoming.

Kevin M.

Yelp
Wanted to try some soul food. Unfortunately was a bit full to try other dishes but the garlic fries hittin, especially the Rasta pasta. That dish is . Will come get the same dish when I'm in Oakland again. Place was well dim-lighted and pool table as well

Taylor S.

Yelp
Food was good! We had came in for because my cousin was in town from Taxas and she likes the yelp reviews. Service was good...only thing that was missing was some menu stems weren't ready to order on arrival listed on the menu. I was ready to order some soul food, yams, greens, oxtails, Mac and cheese etc. & it wasn't gonna be ready until a certain time. I had ordered the Rasta pasta! & it was well seasoned and delicious! You can tell everything is MADE-TO-ORDER which is a good thing. Next time I'll come alittle later ( two hours after opening ) and try the other menu items. The staff is friendly & professional & I was happy with my alternative order.

Yelp
I had been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got the chance to. We had the gumbo 10/10 & the turkey chops 10/10. The service was great and we were able to sit down right away and eat our food there. It wasn't crowded and we got our food in a reasonable time manner.

Yelp
Originally was going to eat at Jack London Square but came here instead and definitely made the right choice! The owner was so friendly. Ordered the rasta pasta with chicken and it was full of flavor and perfectly seasoned! They also had a pool table which was fun to use while we waited for the food. Would definitely check it out if you are in the area!

Yelp
The service was not good. We walked in and it was a dru greating. It yook a while to get food and when i did it was cold. His was hot. The ambience could have been great if the service was good. I saw the place on boozybrunch and wanted to try. The food had amazing flavor and was really good!!! Id do take out. If the service matched the food it would have been a 5 star.

Yelp
Food was absolutely delicious! I ordered the lamb chops with two sides (mac and yams). The dynamic duo of sides- and both were so good. I also got an order of the hot honey lemon pepper wings as a side and they were so saucy and flavourful. My friend got the wing with sides, one being red beans and rice, which is not typically my go to but I won't leave without getting them the next time I'm here because they were delicious. A little bit of wait but it's because the food is fresh, definitely worth the wait. Don't sleep on this place

Yelp
Great food, interesting soul food menu. My friend got the oxtails which are the best I've had in the Bay and outside of home. They're exquisite, gravy was perfect. I got the fried lobster and red velvet waffles, both of which were flavorful and delicious. The Mac n cheese was rich, cheesy, and flavorful with several different kinds of cheese. The owner came to our table and was very down to earth. She puts time and effort into the meals, and it shows. Definitely worth the wait. If you're looking for good, flavorful soul food in the Eastbay, check this place out

Yelp
Miss Y, Miss Y! Your food brings joy to my soul and your service brings peace to a long and challenging Tuesday. Thank you for patience and help on what and when to order and your smile!

Yelp
Ive lived here 10 years and today was the day I finally found the BEST SOUL FOOD IN THE BAY. 5 stars. I don't know what these folks talking bout, "the forks bent" and "we had to wait 20 mins... chile Please. Everything was FRESH. The ingredients, the presentation, and the price and portions were all ON POINT. They even have a SEPARATE grill for seafood for folks who have food allergies. This food..... Absolutely saved my life today. . Everything, oxtails and rice, the Mac n cheese, the cornbread muffins, banana pudding (no Cheap bills wafers in this boo, we talking the EXPENSIVE COOKIES for this recipe!!) , the catfish, the sweet potatoes and collard greens, was cooked and seasoned to PERFECTION. My eyes rolled in my head with every bite. The owner, Y, even came out to check on us and was SUPER nice. I wanted to throw my self at this woman's feet for the crispy, crusty peach cobbler, cause it seriously gave me have faith again that there are people who not only understand that food is a love language to black culture, but it the DETAILS MATTER. (No soggy cobbler in this joint!) Not one crumb was left. Sis made sure of that. Take your granma AND yo mama here. I promise you they will finally have nothing to say about "other peoples cooking". PERIODT.
