Yuan Fang Gua Bao

Passed by this store while visiting the night market and saw a line, so I had to try it. Fortunately, the line moved quickly. I got the pork steamed bun, which was very good. The pork was tender, and the sweetness from the peanuts balanced it nicely. It came with plenty of other toppings as well. There's a small seating area, but it can be hard to find a spot during busy hours. I got mine to go. Service was fast. A must-try when you're in the area.

Such a simple Taiwanese staple. This is sold everywhere but what makes this one different is the amount of toppings besides the actual pork that makes it delicious. The pork was not overly salty and the toppings really enhanced the flavors. The marinaded veggies and the cilantro PLUS the peanut powder…. YUMMY. And the meat was tender and not dry. Highly recommend and worth the wait.

You just don't know what to stumble upon in Taiwan. Just walking around and you get to find this gem. It has a Michelin guide. They have about 6 food items on the menu 1 pork bao bun and the rest are pork based soup. It consists of four herbal soup, intestine, bladder, stomach or you can ask to put them all in.

Came in on a Wednesday afternoon (5pm ish), luckily not so many ppl queueing. Decent traditional Taiwanese street food, with air-condoning dine in area. I’m a happy customer!

Depends on your timing, there may be a long Q. They serve a lot of types of soup but I just tried their bun. It's interesting to see the whole process of the bun assembled in front of you. The meat is very fatty. And therein lies its deliciousness (and unhealthyness 😄). The bun is soft and freshly steamed. The chives and preserved vegetables gives another element to the well marinated and tasty meat. It's pretty heavy and filling. I generally enjoyed it and would love to try it again if I am in the area.

We came here right on opening so we didn't experience a long queue, though I've heard the queue for this shop can get long. The Michelin recognized 刈包is worth the wait though. It's cheap and delicious. The flavour is so perfect and the texture is perfect. I love the sponginess of the bun and the peanut shaving was such a delightful highlight. I love the sweet savoury flavour that a lot of taiwanese cuisine uses. They open quite late compared to other shops so I would recommend coming close to opening. The store next door is also a Michelin recognized shop, it's worth visiting these at the same time.

The gua bao had a generous portion of preserved vegetable (surprisingly not salty at all) underneath the pork belly slice. Note that they add some peanut powder on the top. For those that do not eat coriander, you can also ask for it to be left out.

Located right next to Wang's Broth, Yuan Fang Guabao has some incredible guabao (pork belly bun). They're only 70NTD and they're pretty darn hefty. The sweetness and crunch of the peanut shavings really caught me off guard, and mixed with the savoriness of the pork and mustard greens, the guabao makes for a scrumptious lunch. It was one of the best values/snacks of my Taipei adventure. I'd highly recommend it.

I don't believe I've ever had guabao before. After trying the pork belly bun here, the bar has been set high. This was our 2nd stop in the Huaxi Street Night Market. It's an assuming stall. There's some seating outside where they make the food. There's also seating that they have in an indoor area. The staff was nice as they recommended what we needed to try during our visit. The guabao was 100/10. It's that simple. My mouth is watering as I'm thinking about it. The bun is soft and serves as such a simple yet perfect medium for everything that is inside. The pork belly is rich. What makes it unique is that the richness is conveyed through different textures of the pork belly, from the lean meat to the fatty belly. Alongside the bun and meat, there is the addition of cilantro, preserved vegetables, and peanut powder that not only cut through the pork belly but add another dimension to this bao. Another dish that we got was the small intestine soup. The intestine was clean and chewy. The soup had herbal taste. I thought it was a nice overall compliment to the guabaos that the stall is known for. Altogether, I would highly recommend a stop here if you're in the Huaxi Night Market.

Inside 華西街夜市, Yuan Fang GuaBao appeared on Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand List many times. The shop serves 5 variations of soup and as its name sake, guabao (steam bun), which is also known as Taiwanese hamburger. A guabao is braised pork (choice of lean meat, fatty meat, or mixed combo) wrapped inside a clam shaped steam bun topped with fresh cilantro, peanut powder, and pickled mustard greens. I tried the mixed pork guabao and the four herbal soup. I wanted to like both items, but I've had better elsewhere. The pork is a bit dry and dense, not as tender and flavorful as I would like. The soup was light, but a bit too bland lacking flavor. You can taste a hint of rice wine in the broth, but that was it. The pork intestine was cooked well though. The nice thing about the shop was that it has good AC and clean tables. There weren't many diners when I went.

Excellent Gua Bao, aka pork belly bun! Soft bun with meat that melts in your mouth. The best part is that it's only 45 NT = $1.5!!! This is 10th of the price compared to the ones in the US. Thumbs up all the way!
