Fu Juang Yuan

"One of the most famous places in town for marinated pork trotters, this shop keeps the liquid gold – made with soy, rock sugar, chilli and shallot – on a gentle simmer all day, hence the comforting aroma. While trotters are prized for their gelatinous texture, upper leg cuts strike a balance between fat, skin and meat. Side dishes such as shredded bamboo shoots are also good. Instead of plain steamed rice, try it with a drizzle of marinade." - Michelin Inspector

Walking inside the restaurant is quite the experience because the whole space just reeks of a strong scent of pork. It’s not super appetizing if you are not used to this. Anyone who doesn’t regularly eat pork or has a weak stomach would for sure not enjoy this. Once the food came, we had a bite and forgot all about the scent. The pork was perfectly seasoned and fall off the bone tender. The veggie of the day was Cabbage which was perfect for cutting the greasiness of the pork and rice. I would recommend this restaurant if you really enjoy eating pork or are used to the taste and smell of it.

Absolutely furious and disappointed! We came to Taiwan for a nice trip and walked into this restaurant in a great mood — but the experience was completely ruined within a minute. As soon as we stepped in, the waiter shouted at us. We politely explained that we just needed a table to order and that we are foreigners who needed a bit of time to understand the Chinese menu. Instead of helping, the waiter gave us an attitude, turned his face away, and walked off without saying a single word. Seriously, what kind of service is this? Do foreigners not deserve basic respect here? Extremely disappointed and angry. This was such a terrible experience — it really gives a bad impression, especially when most other places in Taiwan are so friendly. We will never come back and definitely won’t recommend this place to anyone

This is a great place for a plate of pork knuckles, a side of cabbage, some tofu, and a bowl of the famous wheat noodles in sesame oil. It gets extremely busy during lunch time, so go early or go late, and you can get it to go or to eat there. The pork feet are delightfully fragrant and juicy, the tofu and veggies are for extra nutrition, and the noodles are for fun.

Google
4.5 stars. Famous braised pork spot in Taichung with lines forming before they even open. Braised pork Flavour: SS, 9/10 Texture: SS+, 9.5/10. Skin, fat and meat were all different textures but equally delicious Value: S+, 8.5/10. ~$140 for a small plate though it is quite heavy so more may not have been better Lu Rou Fan: S+, 8.5/10. Cheap and delicious comfort food. Bamboo shoots: SS, 9/10. Not much to critique here. Goes well with the pork and sauce

One of the famous traditional pork rice bowl and their pork knuckle. If you are of a heavy taste bud, you might find it slightly bland.

Overall very good. Shop is cozy, bright and air conditioned. Food is hot and fast and delicious. Come for lunch around 12:30pm, almost full but no queue, quite some customers ordering takeaway.

do you like bones? do you like bones more than meat? more bones than fat? more bones than the soft pork skin? then here's the place for you, theyre pork knuckle has more bones than a grave yard, they used to be better than this but that was years ago. This was disappointing, not goin back PS I know pork knuckle is really boney, and you enjoy eating the fat and skin, but here, they barely have any at all. there's so many better places for pork than this check my other review..

Yelp
After a relatively chill day exploring Taichung, we decided to end our day with a visit at Fu Juang Yuan. The outside is hard to miss. You'll see a vat of pig feet and other goodies that are marinating in a liquid gold concoction. You order via the paper sheet that is outside. Once you've marked down all the items that you want, you give it to the cashier and you can take a seat as you wait for your order. We got various cuts of the pork trotters. Unfortunately, I can't accurately recall the difference. Though they were all good. Some of the cuts are certainly more gelatinous; others are more lean with a balance of meat. I do generally like braised pork feet, but I'm also not the biggest fan. With that in mind, I felt that this was maybe above average quality from what I've had compared to home cooking or restaurants in the Houston area. What did stand out were the pork intestines and the noodles with sauce use to braise. Usually I would think rice to be the better base but these noddles went so well the sauce. I would come back again and primarily order a more gelatinous cut, intestines, noodles, and of course try something new!
