I booked a table for Valentine’s last week and unfortunately really just didn’t have a good experience. I’ve been to Yugo a few times now and loved it, and it’s somewhere I would book on special occasions, obviously because it’s somewhere that would be slightly more expensive because of the type of restaurant. The service and the atmosphere, again, were great as always, but it was really the food that let us down last week. We ordered the crispy pork dumplings and the bao, and they were unfortunately the only really standout dishes and I say unfortunately because they were only the starters, not even the main bigger dishes. We also got the jungled curried lamb rump with the rice. It sounded great, but the taste wasn’t there at all. Unfortunately, it was so spicy to the point where we couldn’t actually taste anything, just an overwhelming amount of spice, and spice isn’t something that I mind, just to add. The rice was slightly better, just would have been nice if it was slightly warmer. The dish did come out last, so I’m unsure if it was waiting a while. We also ordered the sushi special that was presented to us as tempura-fried with crab, but when it came out, it was honestly just avocado sushi with one or two crab claws fried on two of them. The other three rolls just had avocado, just felt like it wasn’t made clear enough as it wasn’t on the menu. Overall, maybe I ordered the wrong thing on the sushi side of things, but when the bill is over £100, I would really expect more from a restaurant like this. I just left feeling let down, especially on Valentine’s. It was overall just frustrating.
