Korean penicillin. At least, that's what my Mark claims. He craved a spicy soup to try and battle a head cold that so far has eliminated a box of Kleenex and a good amount of Tylenol. His misery made it easy for me to make the trip to pick up a bowl of YukGaeJang original with Ramen, extra spicy, of course. I hoped the soup, both red hot and red in color, would rid the ill spirits out of his body...and it may have done that.
Apart from the gosari being a bit tough to eat (it was fairly simple to pluck it out), he enjoyed the soup for 2 meals. I liked that I got a small break from cooking, but honestly, I missed the heavenly aromas from the kitchen when there's cooking going on.
I ordered online and made the drive to Gardena to pick it up. Simple, no fuss, no nonsense either, I was in and out in 9 seconds. Plus, I was greeted with a smile, and the sweet lady behind the counter didn't bat an eye when I politely asked her to teach me the proper way to pronounce "yukgaejang".
If another cold makes its appearance, he would likely visit again for another round of the original soup. I'm not a huge fan of $29 price tag (his order was just soup that comes with petite sides/banchan of kimchi and fish cake), but these days, prices are what they are. Could I teach myself to make this soup? Probably, but then I'd have to do the dishes.
Go here for the convenience, but stay for the tasty original spicy YukGaeJang.
