Yukashi

"Chef Daisuke Izutsu has cooked for royals, dignitaries, and you, if you're one of the lucky 15 who has secured a seat at the intimate Yukashi. Firmly rooted in seasonality, this kaiseki-style menu is highly original and personal. Some of the dishes are intricate, while others lean humble. The otsukuri, with slices of shima aji with yuzu zest, toro with pickled turnip and hay-smoked hamachi delicately arranged atop a white marble base, is a work of art. The uniniku plate features three luxurious items—two slices of A5 beef, Hokkaido uni and a round of foie gras—and feels dressed down despite its rich ingredients. Finally, in an ideal follow up to the complex savory dishes, sliced Japanese crown musk melon bursts with flavor without any flourish." - Michelin Inspector

A wonderful and unique Japanese restaurant. We had our meal at the counter and had great conversations with the chef as he prepared the courses. The food was spectacular. I've had Japanese cuisine many times (including in Japan), and this was special. Highly recommended. It's become a favourite of ours, and we feel fortunate to have picked this place to celebrate our anniversary.

I love that somehow eating freshly torched foie gras on A5 Hidagyu wagyu beef, doesn’t seem crazy and pretentious and the chef makes you feel absolutely at home at his bar as he serves up delicious dish after dish. The chef has a great sense of humour, is so incredibly knowledgeable and the staff are very attentive. I also very much appreciated that I got stuck in traffic and while my friends did start without me, he waited until I was there to freshly prepare the couple of dishes I was behind on. I admit I was nervous to go eat there having not liked uni before at other places and seeing on reviews them used in a few dishes - I was thankfully wrong and I loved it. Fresh food and their origin does make that much of a difference! It is a pricy experience and if you have a big appetite you might want more but it was absolutely worth it. Sake menu very extensive as well (I can’t recall what I tried, one light and one deeper flavour - both were delicious!). Small differences like freshly grating the wasabi, even salt, made such lovely touches. Some dishes are so beautiful (the most complex matcha cookie, a smoked tomato flavour bomb, freshly puffed wheat dish was quite something!) while others are less picturesque but no less yummy. Also: having now had the crown musk melon, all other melon will be spoiled for a bit but wow what a lovely last bite (and epic knife to carve it).

We tried Yukashi on a heavy snowy night but the whole experience made us forget about the hassles and troubles the snow brought. Love the cozy and super clean environment this little place offered which made us feel like we were in Japan for a second. Even the detailed decors on the way to washroom worth a photoshoot. The food tasted amazing and the presentation made each dish into an art piece!! We really appreciated the dedication and creativity Chef Izutsu and his team put into their work. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Chef Izutsu is a super professional , friendly and funny guy who has his own unique humour that we enjoyed a lot during the entire dinner :) Will definitely come back in spring when they change the menu. Highly recommended!

Google
Chef is the coolest guy, had great conversations with him. Also food is top notch, by far better than other Michelin places like shoushin and kappo. Hands down the best Toronto. The chef’s extensive background is definitely reflected in his dishes.

Google
We had a wonderful experience here. We were the only seating that day, so we were able to enjoy an exclusive experience. The food was wonderful, service was excellent..after the meal we were able to have a great conversation with chef izutsu about Japanese cuisine in Toronto and Japan. Very fortunate to have had such an intimate dining experience.

Google
Impeccable experience with Chef Daisuke and his team. Every dish was made with care and unique ingredients from Japan. Watching him prepare is a delight (different boards, knives, plates, etc). He made my 2 birthday friends feel extra special too! Would come back again for the next special occasion!

Google
Our experience at Yukashi was incredible. It was sophisticated, yet intimate. The staff were helpful when ordering drinks, describing the dishes, and were there waiting to serve us. The food was beautiful, unique, and very flavorful. The texture of the fish, meat, vegetables and sauces, paired well together. I tried new things I have never had, and found out I liked things I never thought I liked. The chef was funny, kind, and extremely passionate about his craft. You can tell he has created and cultured an incredible team to support his vision in the restaurant. There was not one dish we didn't like. It was all, perfect. All different. All pairing well together. And... To top it off, this is a unique non-Torontonian restaurant. Thank goodness. We have been trying to find something different. This is the perfect place for a date, a celebration, a business meeting. It is worth every penny. And don't be like me, get the drink pairing. I definitely missed out. My gf forgot to take pictures of everything, but I'll share what we did take. Definitely a failure on our part. So beautiful. The food was so breathtaking, we were in the moment and forgot to take pictures.

Yelp
Dining at Yukashi is like having dinner at someone's home with how friendly the owner is. Everything we had was delicious and not only tasty but a visual experience. The space is definitely intimate, and I would aim to get seated at the bar (instead of at a table) by only coming with one other person. I really don't think a review is necessary since it is on the Michelin guide, but in case you were looking for further confirmation that this spot is worth visiting, here it is!

Yelp
Every single course was so beautiful and delicious. The chef was super friendly and fun to talk to. He also had amazing house made flavored sake (yuzu, lychee), which is included in the sake pairing. My favorite drink was the plum wine (not pictured here but it looks like whiskey in color). The signature dish is not pictured here, but it is wagyu topped with foie gras. This is the one dish that does not change with the seasonal menu.

Yelp
Only 1 thing on the menu here which is the Seasonal Tasting Menu (250 per person). Treated as part of a birthday dinner from my girlfriend :) When you think of an omakase course, it's usually a sushi omakase where the focus is on the fish for the most part with a few cooked dishes that act as sides. At Yukashi, that's completely flipped where its mostly cooked small dishes with a sashimi offering snuck into the menu. For me, I think the best way to describe my experience here is, the stuff that is good, are clear 10/10s and the stuff that is just decent are clear 6/10s with nothing in between. No other scores in the 9 dishes, I either really loved it or was just ok on them. Some of the highlights (based on recollection of what it actually was lol) for me would be: - dashi soup with fish and mochi - flame torched A5 beef - mushroom tempura with cabbage - honey dew and ice cream These were very clear 10/10s for me, with the dashi probably at a 15/10. Hands down the best soup I've ever tasted. Clear, rich, light all at the same time. Experience wise, Chef Daisuke did a great job making conversation with all the guests, encouraging us to share our thoughts on the dishes and giving background on each dish. After the dessert is served, he basically just chats with everyone for 20 minutes before the bills come out. Really love how he makes an effort to chat about his experience and of course to hear the background of the Michelin Star. One of a kind experience, you really have to try it for yourself!

Yelp
Such a wonderful experience at Yukashi for our wedding anniversary. The menu is a Kaiseki course curated by the chef. The level of detail on each dish was exquisite. Of the 9 courses, we loved most of them. The chef was a fantastic and super engaging while also being ultra focused during the creation of each dish. The entire staff was ultra professional the whole way through. All 10 of the guests there for later evening serving stayed almost till midnight chatting with him at the end. Both his Michelin stars are well deserved! Our favorites were the 2nd dish dashi broth and fish, the 3rd dish congee like bowl, 4th Sashimi dish and the 5th Wagyu / uni dish. The fall platter was just absolutely a work of art. Please enjoy if you get to visit!

Yelp
Amazing service, amazing food, amazing presentation! A little bit on the pricier side but still worth it. The ingredients were very fresh and you could see the precision and care that went into every single dish and preparation. The ambiance was very clean and neutral. Loved it! Husband's birthday was a success!

Yelp
This was truly an unforgettable kaiseki experience - Yukashi exceeded my every expectation and I can't wait to be back again for more of the chef's creativity. From the moment you step into the intimate and welcoming space, you know you're in for a special meal. The restaurant space is modern, but still manages to evoke a sense of tradition. But it's the food that truly takes center stage at Yukashi. The kaiseki menu is a true work of art, featuring a series of small, carefully crafted courses that showcase the best of Japanese cuisine. The sashimi was incredibly fresh and flavorful, the beef foie gras role was simply a flavour explosion, and the other dishes were both creative and delicious. And let's not forget the sake pairing! The restaurant's sake sommelier is truly an expert in their craft, and each sake pairing explored different flavours and complimented well with the dishes. Overall, I highly recommend Yukashi to anyone looking for an unforgettable kaiseki experience in Japan. From the fresh sashimi to the creative dishes and expertly paired sake, every aspect of the meal was truly exceptional.

Yelp
The omakase chef is so friendly and humble, he takes his time to talk to the guests and makes the experience incredible. The restaurant seating around the bar is the best and the food is like art. Every dish has a lot of creativity and thought that goes into it and the flavours are all unique. My favourite was the sashimi platter and melon dessert.

Yelp
Yukashi is a small and cute Japanese restaurant serving unique, seasonal kaiseki dishes. I would say it's definitely on the modern side vs. traditional kaiseki sets like the one found at Hashimoto. The atmosphere is a bit more light and casual which I loved. The chef and staff were so friendly, and we got to chat with them to learn more about the food as well as the sake. Each course was top notch. Perfect place to celebrate a special occasion with a loved one! Make sure you make a reservation in advance to secure a spot at the bar.

Yelp
Sometimes you just need a gentle reminder of how good your tried and true restaurants are. I can't believe its been so long since I've been here. The last time I was here was before the pandemic and I remember LOVING the entire experience so it boggles my mind why I didn't come back sooner. They only have 1 option which is the tasting menu which is pretty on par price wise with the other upscale omakase Japanese tasting restaurants. But honestly this place is REALLY worth its price tag vs. some places that are just a mediocre experience for the price There was a sashimi course where the toro literally dissolved in my mouth, thats how rich and buttery it was. Clearly only the freshest fish is served here. I'm not a fan of unagi so they subbed that course for this seared toro course and omg it was amazing as well. My friend loved her unagi course though! My other fave course (besides the uni) is the signature wagyu, uni, foie gras wrapped with shiso leaf SO GOOD!! The service was amazing and genuinely friendly. They explained all the sakes for each course very well, and the pairing was perfect with each dish. My girlfriend and I had such a good time and really can't wait to be back. This is hands down my favorite Japanese restaurant in the city! Snag a counter reso for the full experience (if you're lucky) and don't forget to have a drink with my favorite Toronto Michelin star chef Daisuke San!

Yelp
Yukashi is undoubtedly my favourite tasting menu I've had the pleasure of going to not only for the food, but for the experience as well. Chef Daisuke is well practiced in Japanese cuisine and puts his twist on his menu. Chef Daisuke's humble charm, Japanese humor (complete with self-deprecating jokes) make the meal an enjoyable experience. As with all tasting menus, I refrain from commenting on the food as 1. Items are seasonal, and 2. Prior knowledge may affect the experience. For the best experience, get the sake pairing (Make sure you try them before and after the dish). Also try and get the bar seats closest to the kitchen for a more intimate setting with the chefs! On a final note, big congrats to the team for the Michelin star. A much deserved recognition.

Yelp
this isn't your everyday dining, it's edible art I MEAN LOOK AT IT!! chef yukashi and his team is the definition of creativity and innovation. in the first pic, if you look closely there's FLOWERS in a RADISH, HOW⁉⁉ It's a no brainer to why this got a michelin he brings the beauties of the season onto the plate using fresh seasonal items, he has new menu every few months in addition to the taste is their balance of textures. to every soft fatty pairs with a crunch refreshing produce or an acidic sauce. i really can't praise yukashi enough beyond a chef, he's a kind genuine soul. his cheeky jokes and eagerness to get to know his guests is so humanizing clearly i'm a big fan truly one of the best dining experiences *mic drop* 9.7/10

Yelp
This was such a special experience. It's not Omakase, it's Kaiseki, I believe. An artful, seasonal, multi course meal. There are certain types of courses. Anywhere from 6-15. I believe I had 8 courses. This is pre-set on the menu. There's usually a soup, sashimi, a seasonal platter, etc. I went here many months ago before it got a Michelin star. Bravo! Well deserved! Sit at the bar so you can meet Chef Izutsu. He is wonderful and prepares the meal with a dedicated seasoned practice. He told stories about how and where wasabi grows, and the Japanese crown musk melon from his home town in Shizuoka, etc. I believe he personalizes the meal a little bit between customers. My favorites were the smoked sashimi and the Waygu with uni. So delicious! The seasonal harvest platter is the showstopper. I did not get the sake pairing, but I will next time. I heard some are house made and cannot be ordered individually. At the end I was gifted a pour of Japanese whiskey to celebrate from the Chef. The check came with a small paper crane that I still have on the dash of my car. You can also buy the chef a drink. ;)

Yelp
I ate here 3 years ago so not sure if it's fair to leave a review even though I remember the experience distinctly. We ate at the counter overlooking the food preparation. As I recall there were 2 set courses that were possible to order and we chose the less expensive one which was still very expensive. We waited a very long time for our food which was a very small selection and definitely not worth the price. Do you ever have the feeling that you want to go eat at McDonalds after eating at a restaurant because you are still hungry?

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at an exquisite Japanese kaiseki restaurant that deserves a full five-star rating for its outstanding service and engaging chef. From the moment I entered, the tranquil ambiance and minimalist decor set the stage for an exceptional culinary journey. The chef's expertise shone through in every meticulously prepared dish. Each course was a work of art, showcasing the harmonious balance of flavors and textures that define kaiseki cuisine. The chef's personal touch made the experience even more special, as they took the time to explain the ingredients and techniques behind each dish, creating a deeper connection with the guests. The service was flawless, with attentive and knowledgeable staff. They offered recommendations and answered questions with enthusiasm, ensuring a memorable dining experience. The timing of each course was impeccable, allowing for unhurried enjoyment. The restaurant's commitment to sourcing the finest ingredients was evident in every dish. From seasonal produce to delicate seafood and premium cuts of meat, each ingredient was of the highest quality. The flavors were exceptional, and the presentation was a feast for the eyes. The chef's attention to detail was evident in the vibrant colors, artistic arrangements, and intricate garnishes on each plate. In conclusion, my experience at this Japanese kaiseki restaurant was extraordinary. The combination of impeccable service, engaging chef, and culinary excellence left an indelible impression. If you seek a dining experience that transcends the ordinary and immerses you in the artistry of Japanese cuisine, this restaurant is a must-visit. I wholeheartedly award this establishment five stars and eagerly anticipate my next enchanting encounter with their mastery of kaiseki cuisine.

Yelp
No idea why everyone is saying this is an omakase place. This is Kaiseki. They are two different things. A traditional kaiseki meal has 9 courses and it's not usually sushi. Starting off with an amuse bouche which had uni, and the presentation was all settled on a lily pad (giving me Ponyo vibes here). Next is the Suimono, the Red Snapper Soup which was rich in flavours but just simple enough to kick off the dinner. My favourite was the Tsukuri, which was the sashimi dish that had bits of flower and a crispy Japanese potato that gave the dish a unique texture and floral taste to the sashimi. The uni at Yukashi is probably the freshest I've had in Toronto. It's creamy, not fishy, melts in your mouth and it's served in the Yakimono course, with foie gras, and torched Wagyu. The star of the meal was the Japanese Garden in the Hassun course. Seasonal ingredients used to construct a beautiful Japanese garden and everything flowed together so perfectly. We also had a squid ink pasta, ikura on rice, chawanmushi and to finalize, a delicious Japanese melon from the chef's hometown in Japan. A very exquisite and detail oriented meal with the freshest and seasonal ingredients. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Every dish was delicious and beautiful. Presentation was like a work of art, almost too beautiful to eat. Can't even describe with words. I adore this place.

Yelp
If you enjoy the finer food and experience, I'd recommend you to check out this Japanese restaurant. I had the opportunity to check out their 9 course tasting menu. They're a little restaurant with several tables with bar seating available. The servers were extremely friendly and very knowledgeable with the different dishes they present to us. They will walk us through and introduce every dish they bring out for us. Most ingredients used are ingredients imported from Japan. The quality of food, the presentation and the service is top notch. We had a dish that was brought to our table first, shortly after, the chef came to our table to check in with our experience then torch it up for us. At the end of the meal, the chef will send us off thanking us for coming. Of the 9 dishes, the presentation was all picture perfect and instagram worthy. My favourite dish would be the wagyu beef with uni and foie gras wrapped with a Japanese basil leaf. It was torched to perfection and the uni was very fresh and the basil leaf balanced out the flavour. Also, the baked toro was really good also. Most toro we eat are raw, but the baked one was even better. It was definitely a fatty piece but it was cut into the perfect 2 bite size and was really delicious! Our server told us they change up their menu 4 times a year, once per season. Our 9 course menu was their mid price point menu. They have a 4 course menu at $75, the 9 course we had at $150 and a premium Yukashi menu at $300 (you must book this menu 2 weeks in advance). We are really curious to try their premium menu next!

Yelp
Decent. Went here after they were awarded a Michelin star. Solid traditional Japanese kaiseki

Yelp
Amazing dinner experience. Small intimate setting with places for a maximum of 10 people sitting around the bar where the chef interacts with the patrons. Omakase of 9 dishes changes with the season. Interesting blend of flavours with each dish. The highlight of the evening was when we were the last patrons in the restaurant and the chef came by to sit with us to chat and drink sake together. Would definitely come back next season to try the new menu.

Yelp
The newest Japanese restaurant in Toronto where you can get quality omakase without trekking all the way downtown! It is a small restaurant located in the quiet neighbourhood in Davisville Village. Parking can easily be found on the streets because most shops are closed by the time the restaurant opens for service. The 9-course Omakase prepared by Chef Daisuke is absolutely worthwhile. The food is fresh, service is friendly and very homey :) The sake pairing is definitely a must; it certainly enhances the experience. Each dish has an element of surprise(!) whether it is visually or gastronomically. I love the details and the presentation. I especially enjoyed the torched uni, fois gras, wagyu beef dish - everything just melts right in your mouth! I would highly recommend this to friends who appreciates quality omakases! Thank you for a great evening Chef Daisuke and team! Can't wait to come back again soon! P.S. Be sure to grab a seat at the Chef's bar, so you can catch all the action :) Plus, you will notice how cool Chef Daisuke's glasses are close up lol.

Yelp
Yukashi wins a special place in my heart. I had a super experience here with the nine-course menu. Everything was fresh, delicious, and creative - a perfect mixture of modern and traditional cuisine. When you walk in, it's cozy and intimate and I loved that I was able to get a high-class meal without the stuffiness and primness of more upscale restaurants. Luckily we got a seat at the bar, and I really think that enhances your dining experience here as we were closer to the kitchen and was able to see all of our meals carefully curated. Chef Daisuke was very warm and welcoming as the meal went on, sharing his background and life stories. You can see how much labour and creative thought went into each dish - half meal, half art. And if you've got money to spend, the meal and experience was totally worth it, essentially paying for an art gallery and meal in one :) 10/10 would go back again!

Ms. R.

Yelp
What an experience! A group of ten us had the privilege of being the only customers at this spectacular (tiny!) restaurant and every single one of us was blown away by the quality and presentation of the food, the precision of the service, and the masterful techniques demonstrated by Chef Yukashi and his team. We had a number of food restrictions/allergies in the group and they accommodated our needs with great care. Dishes like the torched wagyu beef and uni, the perfectly executed tamago, and the smoked hamachi sashimi stood out from a nine course tasting menu of standout items. We will remember this night for a long time. Thank you, Chef Yukashi!

Yelp
Definitely worth the Michelin star, and probably one of my favourite meals I've eaten in Toronto. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
Came to Yukashi for the 9-course omakase dinner. After reading the great reviews, I came with high expectations, but wow, everything from the food, atmosphere, to service surpassed my expectations and blew me away. I highly recommend booking a table at the bar to get the full experience seeing Chef Izutsu meticulously prepare his culinary masterpieces. He is truly a Japanese masterchef! Having been to numerous excellent omakase restaurants in the city, I would have to say Yukashi is in a league above. The o-toro I had here was the best I've ever had, even better than the one I had at Yasu and Zen, and on par with the best I've had in Japan. Chef Izutsu cuts the fish into cubes (kaku-zukuri) instead of traditional rectangular (hira-zukuri) slices to improve the texture and lets the fish warm up to room temperature to let the full flavour from the fat be accentuated. Even common dishes like chawanmuchi (steamed egg) and tempura, were elevated to be far more unique and sophisticated than what I've had at other omakase restaurants like Solo and Aoyama. The thinly sliced Miyazaki A5 wagyu beef served with uni and foie gras and freshly blow torched at the table is as decadent as it gets. The three ingredients harmoniously compliments each other so well, I can't think of anything to add or change to make this dish better. This dish has enough fat and cholesterol to make my cardiologist frown, but if he tasted the dish, I'm sure he would understand. Although I thought the single slice of melon for dessert was a little basic and not in line with the rest of the intricate dishes, I was completely satisfied after tasting the sweetest melon I've ever had in my life. Chef Izutsu explained that he imports the melons from his Japan hometown. He explained how they cut all the melons from the tree except a single one to allow all the nutrients to be concentrated in that single melon, resulting in such an exquisite treat and undoubtably a very expensive melon. At $150 per person for the base omakase meal, it is slightly more expensive than other places. But given the quality of the ingredients used and the labour of love put into each dish, I would say this meal is a bargain. Although dinner lasted almost 3 hours, watching chef Izutsu work his magic made the time just fly by. What a dinner and show! After the meal, chef was gracious enough to share some stories from his past, entertaining us until the very end. One of the best omakase meals I've ever had! Will definitely be back!

Yelp
If you want an exquisite Japanese kaiseki feast, you should try this one. It is a multi course dinner made up of beautifully plated seasonal dishes. One of the nine courses is A5 wagyu beef, the top grade Japanese beef. We were there early and was the only one before others came later. The chef is very passionate and he explained and showed some of his tools, real wasabi and his beloved grader! Food and services were amazing. It was my husband's birthday so the chef had a toss with us! Lovely gesture!
google avatar

Iris N.

Yelp
I'm adding this to my favourite omakase list. The sashimi is so fresh especially the toro. The wagyu beef is level 5 which according to the chef it is the highest level of wagyu beef from Japan and they need a certificate. The wagyu torched with uni and fois gras... Yummmm I love every dish except for the rice and miso soup which is a course before dessert. Everything else is good . We sat at the bar table and the chef would explain some of the dishes to us. Very pleasant experience. However if you are looking for sushi here you won't find any from the omakase. I also love the lychee sake!!!
google avatar

Sum P.

Yelp
What a pleasant meal we had here! The taste of the food were very delicious, but what impressed me most is how BEAUTIFUL the plating each course was. The theme is related to the season, and it was just so gorgeous and thoughtful! Definitely a Wow! Service is very friendly and warm. The chef sends each guest out after dinner. Our tea were always full. Although the Yuzu sake is not the sweet type I usually had elsewhere, but it seems they make their own. A very cozy spot for a high quality authentic stunning dinner

Yelp
We loved it. Think of it as a neighbourhood Japanese restaurant from a master intent on expressing himself through his food. We sat watching him work and through his movements you can see he is a master of his craft. The dishes were beautiful and exquisite. The place isn't fancy so do not expect a level of decor or service like that. There is however a level of intimacy gained from watching a master work up close and bare his soul and artistry to you. Go with an open mind and time to spare. I had his cuisine back from his Sakura days ans am excited to taste his cuisine again. Idon't think there's anyone who cooks quite like him reflrcting his unique background. So excited that he's in my neighborhood. Will be going back as he changes his menus by the seasons.

Yelp
Omakase! Experiencing fine Japanese dining here is a must for everyone who appreciates good Japanese food. The restaurant is small and not fancy but the food prepared by the chefs is absolutely delicious from start to finish. We had the nine course menu with all dishes prepared in front of us. My favourites included a unique wagu beef, uni and foie gras dish blowtorched to melt the foie gras. Also the smoked yellow tail sashimi and the monkfish liver were outstanding. Every dish is carefully and expertly prepared. Drink choices are green tea or sake, with pairings available. Located on Mount Pleasant south of Eglinton. August 2020: Yukashi is open again and it is just as great as always. We enjoyed a perfect 9 course dinner of fresh beautifully prepared dishes. Good COVID protocols in place so it's very comfortable. Make sure to reserve!

Yelp
Toronto's Japanese food scene is solid. I will argue that in some respects, it's better than LA and NYC. Albeit not at that Michelin fine dining level (The US seduces all the top players w/big $$$$$), Toronto holds her own on every other level. The competition here is intense: omakase, sushi (all levels), izakaya, ramen, you name it! Don't believe me, take a stroll around any neighborhood...at every corner you turn, BAM! you will run into a Japanese eatery. We always joke that there are more Japanese restaurants in Little Italy than there are Italian ones. On top of that pyramid are a few key players and Chef Daisuke Isutzu sits amongst them. You could even argue that he sits atop, but that's another discussion for another time. It's the reverse of what I call the Instagram Dilemma, because here, the tastes far exceed what the camera captures. I love that you experience elegant and artful food set in a relaxed environment. There is zero pretense; it is all about the food. This is like eating at your best friend's place, who, oh by the way, happens to be a world class Chef. So before I wax poetic any further, just see for yourself, then visit Chef and experience it.

Yelp
Wow! The 9 course omakase really wowed us! We chose Yukashi because we wanted a broader omakase experience, not just nigiri sushi. Chef Izutsu delivered in a big way. The overall taste is clean, yet rich and full of umami flavour. Presentation is more rustic but elegant. For 9 course, this is what we got: 1. Appetizer: Hokkaido uni on scallop and shrimp 2. Soup: duck meatball and shitake mushroom in shiitake broth. 3. Sashimi: yellow tail, tuna and some kind of grouper fish 4. Uni: wagyu beef roll with uni & foie grass 5. Main dish: temple garden consist of wagyu beef, king mackerel, sweet potato tempura, pumpkin & chestnut purée, mountain plum, stewed tomato and assorted edible veggie chips 6. Seafood dish: crab chawanmushi with konjaku 7. Tempura: fig and bean curd skin tempura 8. Carb: soba noodle with poached egg 9. Dessert: Shizuoka crown muskmelon Service is always on point and our server made sure the tea and water were always full. Chef Izutsu made sure he chatted with the customers and explained the dishes amidst the plexi barrier. The most memorable touch: chef himself served the dessert that was double as birthday present for my daughter, bid us goodbyes all the way to the door with 90 degree bow (make sure to take your time saying Your goodbye and thank you when you visit Yukashi), and gave us masks souvenir. Our server gave us with super cute mini dragon origami. These kinds of personal touches are things that differentiate great Japanese restaurants above the rest. Their hospitality is top notch and made us feel like important customers. Taste: 4.9/5. I deduct 0.1 for the last dish, soba noodle because i feel like I can make this at home. Not as special as the rest of the dishes. Our ultimate fav is definitely the main dish and uni. Conclusion: if you are looking for special place and experience to celebrate something (maybe being healthy during pandemic?), this is the place to go. You get to taste unparalleled Japanese cuisine and hospitality without actually flying to japan. Definitely a must repeat for us too!

Yelp
The set dinner was nice. there are goods and ok ones in the set. 1. I like the thoughts behind the set. There are playfulness in texture, visual, taste, sound, and potentially smell. 2. appetizer was definitely a texture play. smooth vs popping-texture.... 3. then you get a typical rice / mochi like ball with a soup... it was alright. 4 sashimi (mostly raw) and the mostly cooked dish.. that was again another play, the opposition in the same circle setting but came out separately. i like these two dishes the most out of the set. 5. there is this raw beef with uni and fois gras. It was a neat idea. However, the flavour didn't carry out as nice as i thought it would be. 6. there is another rice dish with eel. Maybe this to balance off the earlier sakura mochi dish. Yet, i was not that amazed by it. Not sure why. 7. the dessert... i did hope for a bit more than just a melon slice. Nothing fancy, but something simple like the way how appetizer was presented to us, to loop back a full circle, like a story. The chef came and thanked us for coming to his restaurant as we were leaving. I appreciated his effort, and his thoughts behind the dining experience he gave us.

Yelp
Awesome place for Omakase! Pricing is better than other Omakase places we've tried. They have a huge variety of Sake to choose from. Food was of course, excellent. The chef and the server take effort to explain to you what the dishes are and what it took to prepare their ingredients. The chef was very pleasant to converse with, and so was the server. Will definitely go back to this often.

Yelp
You have to really appreciate culinary cooking to enjoy your experience here. I came here to celebrate an anniversary so we went with the 9 course meal ($130 per person). If you prefer eating cooked Japanese food over sushi, then this is the omakase place for you. Each meal is served with gorgeous presentation and super delicate. While all the food items are small, it's the details that they put in to create each item. There was a good variety of food - 2 appetizers, sashimi, foie gras uni wagyu, tempura noodles, meat dish, fish dish, rice, dessert. I think the Foie gras uni wagyu was my favorite. The sashimi was also really good - fish was super fresh, nice thick cuts of o-toro and Amberjack did the magic. I was definitely impressed with the harvest dish. I also loved how the chef explained every item on the plate like he was telling a story. For example, there was a piece that looked like a chestnut but made out of sweet potato, and vice versa. Or another item where he mentioned they had to thinly slice the fish skin, wrapping some meat and rolling it up. Super creative and very delicate. The rice was served mixed with mashed up cooked fish. What I didn't like was there were actually 2 small fish bone pieces mixed in - that actually knocks off half a star for me. Overall it was definitely a great experience. Love the atmosphere and decor. Personally, I'm more of a omakase sushi person but I definitely appreciated the food here as it tasted delicious.

Yelp
We sat at the counter and it was a great experience to watch the chef prepare your food right in from of you. We took the 9 course meal of Omakase. It's between $120-$150 depending on the fish they have that day. The meal was well presented and delicate. The fish was fresh, delicate and delicious. Even if the portion was small, we were full after the 9th dish. The service good and staff was nice. We paid $150 per person that night.

Yelp
The entire experience at Yukashi was phenomenal! My brother and law each got the 9 course meal, which seems like the best way to go. Another thing to note is that this Japanese food, not just sushi / sashimi. The highlights were the tuna belly on the sashimi platter, the Wagyu beef and BBQ Eel. We enjoyed all the courses though. We sat at the counter, which cool because we could interact with the chef and watch him prepare the meals. The ambience was relaxed and the pace of the meal perfect. Service was attentive and friendly. The meal was around $200 a piece (without drinks). However, once you see the amount of detail that goes into every bite and the quality of the ingredients it feels completely worth the price.

Yelp
Authentic nine course omakase ($130). Be sure to get a seat at the chef's bar. My favorite course was the soup. Flavourful dashi with soba noodles. We need more of these real food experience in Toronto!

Yelp
Lovely experience! Well prepped and very delicious. A interesting omakase experience compared to the other ones around the city. I would say this place would deserve 5 stars of the staff was a bit more organized. But since it's still soft opening it's forgiveable. I highly recommend checking this little joint out and order the 9 course with the sake pairing.

Yelp
Incredible meal at the chef's table to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. Each dish of the nine course tasting menu was a work of art. Meanwhile, the generosity and warmth displayed by Chef Daisuke made the entire evening welcoming and memorable. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Trekked uptown for the freshly inventive 9 course omakase at the Chef's Table. Every bite was delicious and well thought out. The foie gras/uni/authentic japanese waygu beef flame dish is a favourite. Surprisingly I loved the black and silken tofu mushroom soup...delish. The open concept kitchen makes you feel like you are at a friend's place with a large dining area! Design of the space is zen and the jazz music calming. The chef makes his own soy sauce - no Kikkoman here. He grates wasabi fresh on the spot. Local seasonal Ontario vegetables are highlighted and much appreciated. Server is attentive and polite. We came quite early which was nice. We will be back!

Yelp
Best omikase (Chef's choice) Japanese in Toronto, best value for 5 star food. Highly recommended, pleasant quiet atmosphere for date night or a business dinner.

Yelp
Decided to try this new restaurant that just opened about 1 week ago. From the time we arrived, I felt that they were still working out the kinks. Slow to get started. We tried the 4 course omakase dinner for $75 p.p. Appetizer was good except the crackers & bread like pastry were stale tasting. All other items served on the appetizer were good. Cold soup with egg & noodle was delicious! Main entree- duck was over cooked to the point it was dry & tough to swallow. The fish portion was tasty. Dessert- mochi ice cream. Good. Typical. It was all cooked food so we were somewhat disappointed that no sashimi or sushi was served in this meal option. The best extra to try is the A5 wagyu with uni & fois gras. Absolutely delicious! $25 Presentation was excellent. Service was great. Atmosphere is cozy & casual.
