19 Best Dim Sum Spots in Hong Kong

"While many travelers are drawn to Yum Cha for its Instagram-friendly dishes—char siu bao (barbecued pork buns) come shaped like cartoon pig heads and lau sha bao (molten custard buns) look like emoji faces—the gimmicks don't detract from the quality of the food. Nor does the harried service take away from the upscale ambiance and decor—brick, stone, and rose-gold accents—that would feel equally at home in New York." - Kate Springer, Janice Leung Hayes

Yum Cha

"Tell us about your first impressions when you arrived. There are two Yum Cha locations, but the main one, set on the second floor of a commercial building in Central, has an open-plan and tons of natural sunlight, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows that stretch the length of the narrow room. It doesn't look like your typical Chinese restaurant—there aren't many Chinese motifs, and the brick, stone, and rose-gold accents would feel equally at home in New York City's Meatpacking District. What was the crowd like?Lunch can be extremely busy with small groups—mostly friends catching up, or colleagues enjoying their lunch hour. The crowd skews young, thanks to the Insta-famous dim sum. What should we be drinking?Black tea infused with red dates, toasted buckwheat tea, chrysanthemum—these hot beverages are different from traditional Cantonese restaurants. Soft drinks and cocktails are also on offer. Main event: the food. Give us the lowdown—especially what not to miss. While many are drawn to Yum Cha for its Instagram-friendly dishes, such as char siu bao (barbecued pork buns) shaped like cartoon pig's heads and lau sha bao (molten custard buns) that look like emoji faces, the gimmicks don't detract from the quality of the food. The lunch menu goes far beyond dumpling territory (although there are plenty of those, both traditional and novel), with small plates like slow-cooked pork knuckle and a diverse range of greens, including some organic choices, which is an uncommon but welcome sight at a Chinese restaurant in this city. And how did the front-of-house folks treat you?At peak lunch hour, the staff are incredibly rushed, but once you flag someone down, any questions about the menu will be easily answered. What’s the real-real on why we’re coming here?Yum Cha is a fun departure from the typical dining experience, thanks to its chic decor and cute dim sum designs. But the pace of service during peak hours can make the place feel anything but calm." - Janice Leung Hayes

Google
We had the set menu for 4 people for dinner and it was good value. Enjoyed the novelty of the special dim sum with the googly eyes 👀. Would have been nice to have a few more green vegetable options in the set menu and more tea 🫖.

Google
Had dinner at one of the most popular dim sum/yum cha place in Hong Kong. It’s most popular among tourists, more than half of the customers that night were foreigners. The cute buns and different dim sum were adorable! Taste was normal, but worth visiting once for the photos and nice atmosphere.

Google
Cute dim sum with interesting names. Yummy and Instagramable. Everything we ordered that night was pretty good but if I have to recommend one dish I’d go for the custard bun. It’s a must order!😋

Lovely atmosphere in this resturant. The food was great, we had bbq pork buns, grilled bbq pork, rice and some dumplings. Everything was delicious and was served quickly.

Google
Definitely instagramable food😊 Best Yum Cha in town :) Easy-to-eat food! Great taste and super cute presentation! The restaurant is huge, feels a little like a local family restaurant but they do have separate zone for a more quiet area.

Google
One of my favorite dim sum places in Hong Kong, not only for its innovation in food presentation, but also the quantity of its dishes beyond just the dim sum stables. First of all, the animal style buns were prepared in house and delicious, especially the custard buns (in yellow) and its playfulness. They also offered a Halloween themed dim sum, I ordered a sausage bun in the shape of a mummy (props to creativity), the others were even more creative with eyeball buns but less appetizing to me. The boiled spicy fish fillet, dumplings, seafood fried rice and veggie dishes were all above grade. A must try in Hong Kong with multiple locations. Quality: 5 Star Service: 5 Star Cleanliness: 5 Star Price: 4 Star (600HKD for 2, on the expensive side) Overall: 4.6 Star

Quick bite to eat, good location and fast service. Tasty food.

Google
This place is known for it's cute character teas and desserts. I personally don't really like sweets so I didn't eat much, but I had so much fun just looking at them. The other dishes on the menu was quite good, I can feel they were trying hard to do something more special than other restaurants. The restaurant was quite busy so the staff couldn't come around to take our order so frequently. I would've liked for the service to be better since it's a pretty pricey place.

Yelp
We decided to check out this restaurant based on all the cute pictures that everyone talked about. Those little animal dim sum, of course. We went during dinner time, and were quickly shown to our table. Originally, we made reservations on their website, but it didn't look like it was needed. It wasn't too busy and we were given lots of times to view the menu. We noticed there were a lot of dishes that were only available at the Causeway Bay location, which we felt a bit disappointed at (why show it if you can't get it right?) Orders are checked off on the order sheet and given to the staff member. When the food was ready, it's brought to the table. The bao dim sum were definitely fun to see and even more fun to play with before eating. And the food was pretty tasty. We ordered several buns along with a rice dish and fried squid. The squid ink fried rice was surprisingly delicious and recommended; don't let the black rice throw you off! Pricewise, it is a bit more expensive than your regular dim sum meal. But it's a nice experience to eat some dim sum with a fun twist.

Yelp
Crazy expensive in comparison to other places in HK but i was looking for the cute af pooping and character buns since hello kitty closed i heard. This was on my list and overall i am glad i went with my bf and friend so we ordered a tonnn of food just to try everything out! Went right when it opened for dimsum before it got crazy crowded and just the set up seems more upscale. The plating was pretty and we had a window view so we could see the streets which was cool. You just write down on their list of the menu what you would like pretty simple to follow. Some things we ordered were the cha siew bao, custard bun and shrimp/pork i think bun? Fried squid, spicy noodles, fried rice, spicy dumplings, fried chicken and glutinous rice cake which looked like ddukboki (however you spell it in korean) but it was kinda like rolled up chow fun noodles. Best thing we had imo were the fried chicken, fried squid, custard buns, cha siew buns, spicy dumplings and fried rice. I just didn't like that type of noodle and the shrimp/pork bun was what i can get in NY. The fried rice was nice and crisp, squid was seasoned well and came with a good amount, fried chicken was also fried well not too greasy. The rice cake wasn't bad but wasn't that memorable. Definitely try the custard bun and get your ig/snapchat readyyyyy for it to look like its popping or puking hehe. Service was decent we got tea pretty often :) all our dishes was like close to $90 usd which is expensive

Yelp
As soon as I arrived in HK my friend took me to Yum Cha. It was one of those dim sum places that have the cute buns with eyes or decorations. We ordered a few items: spicy wontons, 3 cup chicken, turnip cake, pineapple cake (in shape of little chicks in a cage), pork buns (in shape of pigs), shumai, and a plate of greens. Overall the food was OK, most tasted good though I wasn't overly impressed. The 3 cup chicken was of a different style than what I am used to. The pork buns tasted pretty standard. My favorite was the shumai.

Yelp
Too cute! I've seen these cute little buns on instagram and such, and I wanted some for myself. So this location in HK may be a little be trickier to find because it's on the 2nd (or maybe 3rd floor), so if you're just walking down the street looking around you might not see it. Remember to look up and you have to enter the building and take the escalators up to this location! We came around 1300 and it was crowded and there was a wait but we decided to come back later around 1400. It wasn't as crowded later in the afternoon. I imagine it's packed during lunch time. I think they do take reservations too so if you know what time you want to head here, make reservations! It's a nicer reservation for sure. It has a more western ambiance to this place. They give you a card and you mark everything you want. We ordered all the cute buns - the char siu one (cute piggies!), some egg yolk bun (orange with cute ears), red bean buns (reminds me of an attempt to make pandas), green tea buns (so buns are green!). In terms of taste, I think they are okay. I like the egg yolk bun, it was really hot when I took a bite into it. Surprisingly, we ordered the truffle noodles and it was REALLY good! That's probably my favorite dish there. Since this place is somewhat nicer, I feel like the prices are a little bit more - I guess that is what happens when you dine at a slightly more westernized place. I probably wouldn't come back because the food didn't stand out, it's really about the presentation here though. I just love the cute buns!

Yelp
The cute buns drew me to this dim sum place and since it was my friend's birthday I made a reservation for 5 people at 1:15pm on a holiday Monday. We still had to wait for 15 minutes to get a table despite the reservation and they only start you on the list once you check in at the front desk so I suggest getting in earlier than your reserved time if possible. Anyway we started a first round of appetizers including a kale salad which I found really refreshing. The eggplant dish was good but not spectacular and the shrimp appetizer was fresh. Of the dim sum foods I recommend the spicy Siu Mai. It's Sichuan style but with just the right amount of spicy numbing action. The beef balls were yummy and those who doesn't like the water chestnut in them will like this version of the dish. Next to the steamed buns and cute desserts. The runny custard bun was cute and we had fun poking a hole in the bun and letting the custard "run" so that the bun was essentially puking. The sausage rolls are shaped like dogs with a Chinese sausage inside a steamed bun. It only came in a pair so I didn't get to try it but was told it was tasty. The pineapple cakes that were shaped like birds and presented in a little cafe tasted just like the pineapple dessert should and quite pleasing to look at. The green tea bun was runny and I converted them to become a Sanrio character for my friend. We finished the meal with a soysauce noodle dish and a beets stained rice dish that came in a begger's bowl. The Chinese name was quite cute and funny if you know the idioms "近朱者赤". All in all I rate this dim sum place with a4.5 stars for service(teapot refills magically), food creativity and lack of crazy MSG. It lost half a star on the long wait in line without any chairs and a stern face hostess. I would definitely come back again for a fun meal time!

Yelp
This yum cha place is very busy and full of customers. The service is very good and food look very cute. Yes, food look cute, but for the taste which matter most, only average. To pick a few, the yolk bun although has runny yolk, it seems lacking in volume. The beef stir fry noodle was a bit on the soggy side, without the ideal dryness. So, if you are here for the food, this place is only average but charging a premium price. What I recommend is to come here as an experience, and you might only enjoy it for the first time for it novelty.

Yelp
You basically come here because it's cute and then you come here because you have guests visiting-it's very Instagrammable. However, I have to say that the food isn't really that bad and the level of service is pretty good. As a rule of thumb, the really cutesy dishes are great for the eyes but flavor-wise are kind of meh. The doggy sausage rolls and the bbq piggy buns are way too sweet. The yellow custard rolls are ok, I think the green tea ones are better. The noodle dishes are good- I like the dan dan noodles and the salt and pepper squid is crispy on the outside and oh so chewy and hot on the inside. The kale dishes though are surprisingly simple and well done.

Yelp
After seeing my friend's pictures of the adorable piggy buns, I had to check this place out during our HK trip. There are many locations in Hong Kong, but we decided to eat at this location in Central (HK island) because it was close to the Peak Tram and mid-level escalators (all tourist attractions). The restaurant is located on the second floor in a shopping center. Central is a business district with high end shops, so we knew this place was going to be pricey. We arrived at 10:50 am and already there were people waiting for them to open. The hostess told us that we need to finish by 1:30pm because they only take reservations after that. After we were seated, they asked what tea we wanted and gave us a menu to mark in what we wanted to order. We ordered roasted barley tea. And of course we ordered all the cute stuff on the menu. We ordered: - seared Chinese pancakes - so good, super crispy - steamed rose floret buns - sweet buns stuffed with filling in the center - BBQ piggy buns - soft, fluffy buns with sweet pork - hot custard molten buns - soft buns with sweet orange filling (poke a hole with a chopstick and squeeze) - doggy sausage rolls - sweet buns with Chinese sausage; the Chinese sausage was hard not that great - pineapple pastries - in a cute bird cage, super cute! Pretty good too. Everything was pretty good and service was exceptional. The food was brought out pretty quickly and the waitress always checked up on us. I would highly recommend coming here if you're visiting Hong Kong. It's kind of pricey compared to other dim sum places, but worth it for the gram.

Yelp
Instagram worthy dimsum that also tastes good!!! A must if you have the time (and funds) in HK! Food/Drink: They're famous for their egg yolk buns, pork buns, and bird shaped pineapple tarts. We also got the red bean mochi bun and regrettably didn't get to try the green tea bun. All the dimsum was delicious and came out super fast. Price: This is definitely pricier than regular dimsum you'd find in the rest of HK. The dishes comes in three, each dish is about 5 USD (for the character dimsum). They also have set lunches for 2 people / 4 people around 40-70 USD. I will say the quality and the atmosphere is worth the money once in a while. Atmosphere: Beautiful restaurant that feels extremely modern! This location in particular has an excellent view of Central, make sure to ask for a seat near the window! If you go early enough you shouldn't need a reservation but otherwise definitely make a reservation on the weekends. Tips: In the Central location ONLY, there's a 30% discount if you pay the check before 12:30 pm as well as if you go 2-5 pm on a weekday (this discount can't be applied with other promotions and offers though).

Yelp
There weren't a lot of dim sum options but the dim sum offered was decent. I had the shrimp dumplings and the sweet buns with custard. They're very cute but they taste just like every other dim sum place.

Yelp
I came here for the gram, my feed has been fed. I came here for my belly, my belly has been fed too. Pretty for the pics, delicious for the belly! To satisfy those 2 don't come cheap however... My friends and I ended up paying $45pp to be full, but the dim sum here tastes as good as they look. I highly recommend the braised beef noodle soup if you like a strong taste of garlic in your noodles, the custard buns since the custard was out of this world, and the shu mai with crab roe on top. Very cute restaurant with marble tables, a van where all the dim sum making action happens, and zen dishes with a fish in the middle of your plate. All the buns are very soft and none of that stiff skin you might see in shabbier dim sum restaurants. If you come in on a weekday, you probably won't need reservations (they don't take weekend ones for dim sum hours anyway). They'll give you 1hr15mins to your seated time if you made one, probably because they know you'll be spending time taking pictures as well. Yum Cha Central also doesn't only serve your typical dim sum as they serve dishes such as fried rice, noodles, drunken chicken, etc.

Yelp
This is not your typical dim sum place. The decor brings you back to the French countryside. Once you turn your head towards the open kitchen, you will be mesmerized with the steam and craftsmanship of the chefs. There is a large selection of food, and an extensive choice of vegetarian option (which is rare for Cantonese dim sum). Food is delicious and beautiful to look at! The taste is authentic, and warm enough when served. All dishes are cooked to order!

Yelp
Visiting from the US, I was SO looking forward to eating here! While the food was delicious, there were a few things that made my experience here not what I expected. Our wait time- ~45 minutes at 2pm, even when there were tables available. This may have been because we did not make a reservation, but may have also been because the wait staff could tell we were foreigners (??). I was a bit disappointed with how limited their menu was- I was expecting the usual variety from a typical yum cha establishment, but theirs was a lot narrower than that. Despite that, the food was actually really good. FOOD: Piggy Cha Siu Baos (5/5) MUST HAVE!! I don't usually like cha siu baos, but these were delicious and cute! The sauce and meat to bun ratio was perfect, but I wish there were more! Custard Bun Aliens (4/5) The custard itself was really good, but a tad but too liquid-y for me. One of my buns popped the other way when I bit it (lol) but definitely try this one! Pan-Fried Turnip Cake (3/5) One of the larger dishes we ordered. Nothing to write home about, but a solid dish with a nice kick to it. Shrimp E-fu noodles (4/5) Plenty of shrimp in a simple broth! E-mein is my favorite, so we had to order these. The soup is pleasantly simple, but wish it had more taste. Nothing noteworthy about the flavors of the broth, but if you are going for something simple but yummy, can't go wrong with this. Ha gaw (shrimp dumplings) (5/5) These were soooo good. Plump shrimp, perfect chewiness to the skin, and generous ratio of filling. If you're in the area, and willing to spend a little more for a smaller but prettier portion of food, Yum Cha is the spot. If you are looking for a traditional yum cha experience, look elsewhere.

Yelp
The first time we went there, we ordered what were marked could be done vegetarian. Beetroot fried rice, rice noodles and Singapore noodles. My little minion (the child) made sure he added 'no eggs' to the order after I confirmed it would be free of any chicken stock, fish sauce, blah blah blah. But I couldn't recollect for sure if I mentioned 'no eggs' or not, so didn't want to make a fuss when all of it arrived with eggs. The chive pancakes was all I ate, played with the rest a little before disappointedly wrapping up the meal there. Towards the end, it did occur to me that we did mention 'no eggs' but I guess it was a bit too late or I felt awkward, so I told the manager towards the end explaining the situation exactly while paying the cheque. And I mentioned to the host as we were returning of it. Not sure if it wasn't in their capacity or not to do anything about it or not, but I didn't want to fuss about it then. Top it with the fact that our server confidently placed pork buns on our table saying it was vegetarian when I could tell they weren't - it clearly said so on the menu!!! I recounted the situation, exactly as it was, on the email to them and they were very gracious in responding. I wasn't expecting much, but they apologized for the situation and offered to pay a gift certificate of about half the amount we spent there and offered to make a reservation for me to make sure it'd all be good the next time around. I happily went there again, for a weekday lunch sans the husband and the child and ordered completely different things to eat. These included the bomb truffle dumplings, spicy eggplant (cold) and tofu (cold). And a raspberry bellini. And can I say I enjoyed my lunch. You must try all these things. The way those delicate slices of tofu were laid, that peppery sauce of the tender eggplants and the truffle-y deliciously thin dumplings, plump with the stuffing inside. Everything was great. The server was the same as last time and I was all attentive and made sure I checked with someone else (the host) to make sure what I was ordering was vegan. The manager on duty was kind enough to stop by, bring me his card and introduce himself. They added tea to the charge, which I confirmed if was a default, irrespective of whether we order it or not and I was told it was an accident but they did amend it on the card quickly. Lots of back and forth but this to me was hospitality done right. And the food was just superb. I'd highly recommend. More photos and details on my website - thevegetarianvoyager[dot]com

Yelp
Five stars for cuteness, 3.5 stars for flavor. The pork buns were so cute. They also had custard buns that were also cute but we didn't order those. We got the sweet and sour mushrooms, which was one of the best dishes we had all night. The truffle pasta was good too, the truffle flavor was very strong. The other dishes we got were good but we weren't super crazy about them. I would definitely go at least once if you like cute things. If you are looking for authentic dim sum, this is not the place to go.
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
We went here expecting dim sum but very very little on the menu is true dim sum, and what they have is very pricey. The buns are really cute and very light but I'm not sure they're worth $49HKD. The service was excellent though.

Yelp
Calling all basic Instagram betches! If you answered yes to any of these questions, please head to Yum Cha now! - do you travel out of your way for that "Instagram moment"? - do you like pretty food despite how awful it tastes? - are you "all for the gram"? This place is for you! Awful, overpriced Asian food. This isn't even really dim sum. I'm so embarrassed I was dragged here by my group. The little character baos were mehhhhhhh and everything else was MEHHHHH. I was surrounded by wannabe social media influencers. We saw people literally come here, order 1 of each cute bao, take the pictures, and leave. This place is my LIVING NIGHTMARE.

Yelp
You know what I love? You know what I really love? Well I'm gonna tell you whether you want to know or not. I love when a space is thought through. I like when things are put together in a thoughtful way. This space has that. The design is impeccable! This is definitely one of those Yelp recommended restaurants that delivers an experience. The space is beautifully coordinated with a contemporary look and plush toys depicting the restaurants characters spread throughout, but tastefully so. A part of me felt like I was in an Angry Birds themed restaurant. But a nice, adult contemporary version of Angry Birds! It was a wonder to look at and a wonder to see. The food is so preciously designed to fit the ingredients and is almost too cute to eat. Alright, I painted an unbelievable picture and put together an intro for a restaurant that has to be at least 4 or 5 starts with a Michelin rating, no? I'm practically gushing over the place! So then what's the issue? The pork buns are too cute to eat. I already mentioned that. The problem is that they don't live up to the design. The birds in a cage look amazing! Like U-May-Zing! They really come to life in that bird cage. They don't taste amazing, but they look amazing. They were good, but not great. The custard buns were better than the pork and it's fun to poke a hole in it and make it vomit! The green tea bun was my least favorite. The green tea flavor was good but not great. The green tea flavor was not overpowering and not too sweet. My favorite dish on the menu was the pan fried noodles with steak. The meat was well cooked and the noodles had great flavor and was not too greasy. In fact I thought the noodles were great. My overall impression was an above average meal with a great ambiance. I wouldn't consider the meal expensive, but from my short experience here thus far, the prices are a little high and they don't deliver a top notch flavor. I think it's still worth the visit and the experience is really something else. So take some great pics, have a decent meal and Yelp about it!
google avatar

Rita L.

Yelp
Cute dim sum buns! that's the only reason I came by. The prices are higher than usual so I'd recommend just coming to try a few things instead of getting a full meal. They do have a lot of seats so you don't have to worry about waiting in a long line to get seated. Worth trying if you like cute stuff. Snowman has red bean paste inside that I think is way too sweet. Molten buns are good as usual. Green tea flavor ones are just ok.
google avatar

Yelp
Saw that they had these cute little pig looking buns, so came to try it out. Ended up getting a lot of other food as well, our table consisted of sweet and sour pork ( highly recommend! Comes with pineapple) , truffle e-fu noodle ( this one is super delish too!), bbq pork piggy buns ( the cute looking buns, pretty good as well) , crab roe & pork dumplings (one of my fav), green tea custard molten bun ( little sister said it was delicious), and steamed shrimp rice roll ( my other favorite). It wasn't really the type of dimsum I was looking to eat but none the less it was very good! I would totally recommend to my friends to try it out, plus it's a good photo op for "food bloggers" hahaha Tip: the food isn't spicy at all, so ask for some "spicy sauce" they don't understand when you say "hot sauce"

Yelp
The cutest dim sum ever that took Instagram by storm! I had to check it out when we were in Hong Kong! If you go right when they open, there's really not much of a wait, but they did tell us we would have to leave by 1pm when our tables had reservations. No prob! The place is super cute and chic, like a page out of an anthropologie magazine almost. The entire building is pretty to say the least. There are really cute dim sum options, like the popular BBQ pork buns shaped like pigs, and the little molten custard buns. I would have tried the green tea ones too they are not that cheap per plate! Plus the molten custard buns are classic and they were delicious! Just be careful because the molten custard is hot! We also ordered the sausage buns shaped like dogs...these were probably my least favorite and only came with 2 and were literally just buns wrapped around Chinese sausage. The BBQ pork buns were at least pretty decent. We also got an order of ho fun, which was the most expensive item we got, but rather good actually. We needed to fill up on something! And lastly, we got the pineapple pastry birds in a cage...super cute! Almost too cute to eat. They aren't taiwanese pineapple pastries, but still pretty decent. All in all, prepare to spend a good amount of money on not that much food. I think after the 10% service charge (automatic) we spent about $55, which is quite a lot for 4 dim sum dishes and 1 order of noodles! But on the flip side, you'll be entertained AF. We haven't played with our food this much in awhile! lol

Yelp
If in mood for some dim sum and you find yourself near Yum Cha, then it's not a bad option. Cocktails are worth passing on.

Yelp
Some of the food here is quite tasty: the BBQ pork rice roll is excellent, and the Chinese pancakes are light, fluffy, and delicious. Though the salt pepper squid is very good, the bottom half gets quite soggy, as the pieces are stacked on top of each other. The presentation is superb (i.e. very 'gram worthy). It was literally the prettiest dim sum I've ever eaten. However, some dishes were a little more disappointing (minced puff had a very surprising, fishy taste), not least of which was the 1000 year egg with silken tofu. The dish is beautifully presented, but there is literally no 1000 year egg. Though the dish is pictured on the menu with a full egg in the middle, in reality there was just a small teaspoon of pickled vegetables. The server INSISTED that there was 1000 year egg in the pickled vegetables, but we could not taste it, and found the menu photo to be extremely misleading, and the server's insistence that we were wrong off-putting.

Yelp
Caricature dim sum and modern furniture, how fetch! This kawaii-themed restaurant is a happy middle ground between your conservative yum cha ritual and the insanity that was "modern toilet" (a toilet themed restaurant in Hong Kong back in the day). It's perfect for the snap-happy individual but that's really where you're money is going. So when you take away the smoke and mirrors, what do you get? The dim sum and service it self is just average. My poor server, wearing branded black T that wrote "Happy to Serve You" was all too happy to clear the my plate before I was finished and was confused with the wine list. She asked over and over again if the "German White Wine" was the one I wanted. Maybe it was her first day. Also, what sort of wine list goes: White Wine; New Zealand White Wine, German White Wine, Italian White Wine, California White Wine, etc. Who wrote that list? The only worth mentioning dish: The Truffles E-Fu Noodles. It was clearly too mainstream for me. Pay $$ for some birds in a cage if you want but stick me down for a classic yum cha afternoon with my anti-social parents instead.

Yelp
Honestly, I only came here for the animal shaped dimsum :). I wanted to try this place out before I left HK and while the prices were high, I didn't regret it. The place isn't too big and while they have multiple locations, it's better to make a reservation before you go. Their website is easily accessible to make reservations and it's available in English too. While I could speak Cantonese, their menus are also in English so there wasn't a problem while ordering. We tried three different kinds of the animal dimsums and while the presentation was superb, the taste was good too! It's definitely a cute place to check out if you're ever in the area.

Yelp
This restaurant is truly an instagrammers heaven! We'd stumbled across a review a few months ago and were holding out for a day we came together to yum cha ... then CNY happened and two of us ended up in sheung wan shopping. I overheard someone saying "yum cha yee lau?" and my ears pricked up. Off we toddled to the second floor and sat down pleased that we were going to tuck into some dim sum delicacies. We opened up the menu and realised we'd stumbled into the cutesy restaurant we'd planned to try as a team (oops). The atmosphere is superb. The decor is modern with natural light flooding in from the Windows and complimented with jazz tunes. The staff are also incredibly pleasant. The menu offers so many options and we will certainly be back to try more! This time round we settled for:- Spicy Sui Mei - they're tasty and definitely have a kick to them. Pow. Prawn Cheung Fun - yes, all the way yes. The prawns were fresh and the skin light and silky smooth. Chicken Spring rolls - flavour filled and crispy. Garlic fried Bearded Kale (I think that's what it was called) - crunchy and reminded me of dragons tails. Char Sui boa - shaped as little pigs! So fun to eat. The char Sui was tasty but I found the bun a little rubbery. Egg custard buns - so fun to eat and the egg custard filling was increds rich and delicious! A side mention for the tea which was a Japanese rice based blend. Mmmmm. Hit the spot. Must go back and try more in a bigger group!

Yelp
My cousin booked a table for 9 people. We got lost trying to find the place as we were over from UK and the restaurant is inside a mall. The buns are definitely cute and great for photos! The rest of the food is so so and most of the group were not impressed. They thought it was too expensive and other friends mentioned it's a place for tourists and not locals. Do go there if you like to instagram food! But check the menu online to see the prices!

Yelp
We made a reservation for 12 ppl and got a table during lunch time. Ordered plenty plenty of food. Compared to other dim sum place, this is certainly a more expensive one as they are contemporary cuisine with all the innovative dish. All the buns are transformed to animals like pigs, frogs, and dogs...etc. I thought this is a place for tourist so the taste I expected would be s so-so. But I was wrong. Their taste and all quite tasty and yummy. Custard buns came out hot and soft, fried rice paper roll are super tasty with xo sauce favor and the pan fried e-noodle is a big surprise- they add truffle oil in it. Super yum. End up we paid $250 each for lunch and for lots of take away!!

Yelp
If you have young children, this is a great place to visit! The kids all love the buns and nothing brings them more joy than squeezing them and watching the custard explode. Also highly recommended if you're bringing in friends from outside of HK, the novelty of these buns is very fun. If you are looking for an authentic dim sum experience, this should not be the your top option. The dim sum presentation is pretty but you can find the same options at multiple places throughout HK, that are much tastier, and at a mere fraction of the price too!

Yelp
We just had dessert here and the food was excellent (the pineapple puff birds are adorable and the specialty buns are too cute). Highly recommend for some great pics! HOWEVER. The service was really bad. They forgot our drinks and the waiters kept ignoring us for about 45 minutes. Much of the wait staff was also very rude. Most alarming was seeing the manager (I think he was the manager, he was wearing a button down instead of the t-shirt everyone else on) PUNCH a waiter THREE TIMES in the face for some reason. This was out in the open in front of the whole restaurant (though it would be unacceptable anywhere). That was honestly insane...

Yelp
These are the cutest dumplings I have ever eaten! As for taste, the dumplings are really good but not spectacular! The service is not good. If only rating service it would be "2". I arrived with a reservation and was seated right away. I sat and sat and sat! After 15 minutes of watching waitstaff talking to each other, clearing tables (when there were open tables and no wait) and then disappearing, I actually got up to get someone to take my order. I had a great view of Time Square and entertained myself aight seeing during the wait, I just think service needs improvement. My food came and I truly enjoyed every bite. Unfortunately, getting the check was almost as bad as getting service to start with. Again, these were the cutest dumplings ever!

Yelp
3.5 stars Dim sum place in Central known for its cute dim sum. "Ok" taste wise but ppl usually come here for the gimmick / photos as opposed to the best dim sum experience. Would check it out for their creative items. Most famous is probably their lava egg yolk steamed bun

Yelp
I've had dim sum so many times in my lifetime but this place was truly the cutest! I like how they add a "modern" twist to traditional dim sum. I got to try the custard (yellow) buns, the red bean mochi (pink) buns, the pineapple bird puffs, colorful har gow, and green shiu mai. Typically, cute and instagrammable restaurants and dishes focus more on the appearance so consequently the taste isn't as good. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how decent each dim sum was! Especially how the custard buns had the traditional salted egg yolk taste, and the pineapple puffs were similar to the ones I've had in Taiwan. Yes, its definitely not as good as the traditional dim sum places but considering its trying to "rebrand" dim sum and make it more creative/fun, I think its worth going at least once if you're in Hong Kong! But do be aware that it is pricer than typical dim sum restaurants and service really depends on what time you go and which section of the restaurant you sit at.

Yelp
Such a disappointment. I wanted to come here way before I had booked my HK trip because of the many Instagram pictures I've seen of their cute dim sum items. The restaurant was hip, with very modern design, which should have been the first sign that it was going to be way over-priced and overrated. When we first sat down, our waiter asked us for our preference of tea. We thought it was like every other dim sum place where the tea was free. BUT they charged us freakin 40 HKD for it. We didn't even drink our tea. For food, we ordered the matcha custard buns and the porky buns. Both were definitely very cute but not tasty. I would never come here again. Don't waste your stomach space on these ridiculously overpriced items.

Yelp
Clearly, I found out about this place on Instagram, I'm pretty sure being insta famous is their whole goal. But honestly, they do it well! The restaurant itself has nice large windows is very airy and decorated nicely. I wouldn't say they have the best dumplings in all of Hong Kong, but they might be some of the cutest. We really went for the experience but were pleasantly surprised by some of the food. The only downside was the service. We felt like we had to keep chasing down the waiters and reminding them of what we ordered. We had about four waiters who were "passing" by our table, but each was not sure who took our order or put it in, so we ended up being there for much longer than we anticipated.

Yelp
When the East meet the West YumCha serve new style of canton dim sum. We made reservation a day in advance but basically no need to do so if it's a weekday. The restaurant is not full at all. Unlike normal dim sum place, They serve only one type of tea. Dim sum looks very cute and special . Taste itself is not bad but no suprise. While some fired dishes are above average. One thing to notice is their menu chage time by time . So the dishes on menu may not be available on the day you visit. Final available dish depends on what listed on the ordering paper of the day. Overall dishes are quite nice. Price range is cheap but not too bad. A typical dim sum charges $49hkd. Special recommend the dragon seafood rice in soup($109)

Yelp
We are on vacation in HK and my friends brought us here. Food is excellent. Service is excellent. Child-friendly environment provide high chair and kids utensils for my 2 kids. Unable to comment on the price since my friends treated us. It is a fine dinning version of dim sum. Usually, we only eat dim sum for brunch/lunch. Surprise they do serve dim sum at night.

Yelp
Got in around 3pm on a Saturday after visiting the Peak, no wait and actually fairly empty. Food was pretty good, the custard buns were fun (they barf custard when you poke them) but were very messy. The pork buns were cute and tasty. Prices are higher than what you would expect at dim sum. Also the tea doesn't have a price, so we assumed it was free, but then the bill came and im pretty sure they charge ~16HKD per person (but not per glass, they'll keep refilling the pot with water). So, just be aware of that.

Yelp
This place is overrated and for tourists. Is it adorable? Totally. Is it worth it? Meh. I'd go once or twice in my lifetime, ideally with people who have never had dimsum before so they can be extra blown away. If you're going to come here once, just remember to bring your camera because its more of a photo op than a meal.

Yelp
Trendy restaurant serving guangdong dishes and a modern take on dim sum. The interior has an industrial feel but polished at the same time, with marbled tables and an open kitchen. They are famous for their iconic (very instagrammable) dim sum including the custard egg buns, matcha buns and BBQ pork buns. Dishes are priced a little higher, but it's worth coming to try this place or take visitors. I've taken multiple friends visiting HK here and all of them enjoyed their experience.

Yelp
Yum Cha is home to the infamous custard buns making their way around social media, with custard bursting out of them when you squeeze it. The restaurant itself is very modern and stylish, and you definitely need a booking otherwise you'll be facing a significant queue! The food here is more expensive than other dim sum places, but actually, I thought it was pretty damn good and not just style over substance. Sure, the custard in the buns is a bit split and not particularly fantastic, but you can see the chefs preparing all the food in the kitchens and the general standard here is good. Overall, 4 stars for good dim sum and creativity, but not entirely worth the price apart from the novelty after your first visit!

Yelp
The three of us got the dinner set for 2 people. We started off with chrysanthemum tea and got the 1000yr duck egg & silken tofu and sesame chicken rice noodles as appetizers, the sticky honey balsamic wings, and the squid ink/eggwhite/seafood fried rice. It also came with hot custard molten buns, wontons, and soup. All of this came in the set and we added on an order of the bbq piggy buns. This was enough food for 3 people. The food was pretty good. I liked the 1000yr egg & tofu, bbq buns, and the chicken rice noodles the best. The soup was pretty bland. The squid ink fried rice was not that special except for the black color. It didn't have much flavor to it. The honey balsamic wings were drenched in sauce and it just tasted like bbq sauce to me. They weren't bad though. The wontons were greasy and tasted ok. And the custard molten buns were fun to play with. This isn't a traditional dimsum restaurant. It is much fancier inside. Seems like a lot of people who dine here are bringing guests that are visiting out of town, which I think would be appropriate. If you're looking for good dimsum, I would go elsewhere. We are visitors and definitely enjoyed our meal and the cute buns, but this place was pretty overpriced. We were unaware until we received our bill, but they charged us ~$2 USD per person because we asked for a refill of hot water for our tea which I thought was pretty ridiculous. I'm not sure if I would visit again if I ever go back to Hong Kong.

Yelp
Really expensive, cute dimsum. All of their food is on the expensive side, but if you get the deals, it will save a significant amount of money. All plates are pretty small (think two fists in length) so you're going to need to order at least 6-8 plates for 3 people. The molten buns are my favorite! They do live up to the hype :) The place is very modern, right in the center of the financial district. We waited 10 minutes with no reservation on a weekday at noon, so the wait won't be too long either.

Yelp
The decor when you walkin is very modern french contemporary, which was a surprise for a dim sum place. They do a twist on the regular dim sum dishes and were a bit more creative. The har gow had gold leaf on top and shrimp was fresh and crunchy. The siu mai we ordered used sichuan peppers - spicy but flavourful. They like to shape some of their buns and pastries into animal shapes, which was esthetically cute. There was a pig shaped bbq pork bun, the lava bun had a face and there was this bird shaped pastry that came in a tiny bird cage. Would love to come back another time to try more of their dim sum options.

Yelp
This stylish and trendy venue makes a great choice for brunch. Make a reservation and expect to have a time limit on your table as the restaurant gets packed. The food is good quality and flavour with a helpful and efficient staff. Worth a try if your in central.

Yelp
The food at Yum Cha is Instagram worthy. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is chic. We ordered everything with eyes except for the hot dog buns and they were all very delicious. This is a must try after you experienced traditional dim sum!

Yelp
I heard about this 'new' kind of dim sum from my friend and decide to give a try yesterday(Sunday). Since it was Sunday, Central area wasn't crowed and quit nice to walk around. And we get to the restaurant 15 mins before our reserved time. The place was half empty. Well, somehow the receptionist decided to give us a temporary setup table next to the entrance. The table didn't look clean and we asked to switch since there were a few table available. And some of those are 6 people table with 8 utensils. She insisted those are 8 people table and asked us to wait 30 mins. That was the end of my appetite for Dim Sum. we ended up have a great lunch at the Old Hong Kong restaurant in the same building. If Yumcha is "new" kind of HK food, sorry I will stay with the "oldies"

Yelp
aestically pleasing in every way, which always makes the food taste better right? the dim sum was yummy and will admit more spicy than our group anticipated. overall, it was yummy and nothing to write home about, but I did enjoy eating the coconut custard steam balls!!

Yelp
The food's aesthetic appeal is, not gonna lie, really cute and witty. The taste itself though is not something that I would rave about. Come if you're looking to take cute foodie pics to show off to friends, but for the price you pay, I'd say there's just as tasty dim sum elsewhere.

Yelp
Nice interesting foods, kinda a modern fusion of east and west. They are well decorated and for the eyes as well as the stomach.
