The Best Restaurants on South Padre Island, Texas | Eater Houston

"This cheery breakfast and lunch spot specializes in thick, fluffy pancakes and a barbacoa plate served only on Sundays. Its lattes are a show-stopper, loaded with Irish cream syrup, Mexican chocolate, dulce de leche, Nutella, and other flavors and topped with brightly colored, highly Instagramable latte art. You won’t catch any seaside views here, but there’s still a sizeable outdoor patio in addition to the plentiful inside seating." - Lane Gillespie

Be prepared to wait a long time! Check in, Grab yourself a coffee at the coffee station and wait outside. In my strongest opinion, the food taste and portion sizes are worth the wait! They do offer indoor, outdoor or bar seating. The hours are limited to only breakfast, brunch and lunch.

Google
Delicious foods, great service, all in a gem of a restaurant buried in a little shopping center. I recommend the breakfast quesadilla, but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Show up early or be prepared to wait. If you show up and there's a line, rest assured that the wait will be worth it.

One of the most popular places on South Padre Island, Yummies is a sister restaurant to Viva which was also another one of our favorite places. Yummies lived up to the hype. We visited twice and waited 30 min each time. There are fun shops nearby to check out while waiting. Service was really friendly and fast both times we went. Food was solid with large portions. The 2nd time we went, I wanted to try some lunch items because few people reviewed that side. The shrimp po-boy had a enough shrimp to fall off the sides. My friend’s hot chicken had two large chicken pieces. He had to take one off and packed it to go. Overall, great food and ambience.

Ate here for the first time this morning. Tried yesterday on Memorial Day, and it was a 90 minute wait so we bailed. Came back today and were seated immediately. It was busy so they balance this place well. Food was excellent, service was top notch and the atmosphere is great. We had the bacon stuffed waffle, a Chorizo taco and the All American Breakfast. This is good food at a good place for reasonable prices. Sitting outside on the patio for breakfast was awesome. Carlos O was our server and he killed it with excellence and couldn’t have done better. Thanks for a great breakfast experience!

Google
We really loved this place. The food is delicious and in good quantities. The staff gives an excellent service. It's definitely become one of our favorites, no doubt. It's almost always packed, so be patient in case you have to wait for a table. Overall we give it 10/10

Google
Best coffee on the island! Lattes are colorful and full of color! Mimosa was sparkly and flavorful. Breakfast was great! I highly recommend. We got in pretty quick. It’s a big restaurant so plenty of seating.

Google
I was impressed with the chilaquiles. They were really good. I ordered the Mediterranean avocado toast. I like that they have a great variety of food options including smoothies and coffee specialties. If you are visiting SPI. This place is a must have breakfast ✨🫶

Google
With name“Yummies,” we were compelled to try this establishment, and it exceeded our expectations. The cuisine was delectable, but we should have anticipated the customary wait time, considering that we were visiting the island during the 4th of July. This place is a must visit and try!

Yelp
absolute favorite breakfast spot on south padre island. we made sure to get there early to beat the breakfast rush. everything we ordered was delicious and filled our tummies before a nice day on the island. the french toast was nice and fluffy. their drinks have cute designs just add a nice extra touch to your meal. service was so friendly, definitely looking forward to getting a chance to come back!

Yelp
The service was decent. The ambiance was okay. The food was disappointing. I tried the shrimp tostadas. They looked amazing but tasted mediocre. My wife's salmon salad looked great but tasted so-so. It was the seafood that was the greatest let down. Because they were highly rated on Yelp, I expected so much better. The did offer a military discount which I appreciated.

Yelp
we tried to eat here the sunday after valentines day @ 11, but as expected, there was a 45 minute to an hour wait, so we tried again about 9:30 on monday. so expect a wait on weekends! its busy for a reason! the foods great! we were seated right away, i opted for hot tea service ($5) gree mango peach, it was yummy and was served with lemon & honey on the side) hubbie got pecan coffee ($4 with refills on regular menu) and he enjoyed the flavor as well. i didnt see a combo plate with what i wanted, so opted for french toast ($9) with added fresh strawberries ($2) and an a la carte egg ($2). hubbie likes benedicts, so ordered the happy face bennie ($15) with added avocado ($4). despite the restaurant being busy, food was brought out promptly. my plate was loaded with a very generous portion of french toast & strawberries. hubbies bennies looked wonderful - big fat eggs & creamy hollandaise. everything was well prepared and tasty. service was attentive & friendly. would definitely recommend this casual but upscale spot for breakfast, lunch or brunch.

Yelp
There was a wait to be seated so I sat at the bar. Rebecca was my waitress and she assisted me with making an order. Everyone around me was ordering all kinds of cold and decorative coffee so I went along with that program and got a piping hot cup of coffee that had really good favor. The restaurant reminded me of a ma & pa kind of establishment. I ordered the Belgian waffle with strawberries ( fresh not syrup). It was so delicious and just slightly crisp on the outside. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
We've been coming to S Padre to vaca for over 5 years and finally tried Yummies & WOW. Amazing coffee options, breakfast is amazing and lunch is just as impressive. It's a twist on an old school diner and new age brunch spot. Ate breakfast here two days in a row (my wife had brunch the second day). If you're a fan of scratch made fluffy biscuits - OMG the Biscuit & Gravy is Super Amazing! I spoiled myself for my birthday and added whipped topping & cream cheese to a side order of French Toast. My Farmers omelette was delicious. My wife ordered the Philly which was amazing (just needed an au jus or mayo or something to accompany it). But definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
This was my first time at yummies and I thought it was amazing. Truly outstanding. We got the buttermilk pancakes, mickey mouse pancake, and the happy eggs Benedict. The butter milk pancakes were so delicious and huge they were soft on the inside and nice and crunchy on the outside. The mickey mouse pancake was super cute had lots of fruit and my daughter loved it. Then we also got the happy eggs Benedict. It was adorable and super yummy. The waiters are so nice and super fast. The little place smells really good and its very clean. This place is also very summery and so pretty. We also got the dulce de Leche. It was beautiful and so delicious. Also if you want to come here expect to wait. There will always be one but its so worth it.

Yelp
The smoothies were great!!! I loved the cute little heart on the strawberry smoothie! The salad was refreshing with the vinaigrette and the bagels were too salty. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
While the food is classic brunch faire, the service and amazing coffees and drinks makes it stand out.

Yelp
Such a lovely little breakfast spot. My boyfriend and I came in right at opening so there wasn't a wait and the staff was super kind and welcoming. They are very quick with cleaning tables of plates and trash. The food came out quick, and was good for the pricing. Portions are for sure worth it if you are preparing for a long day at the beach!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cute little restaurant with delicious food. The wait wasn't long upon arrival and got seated quickly. The food had a nice presentation to it and it was absolutely delicious. The coffee had a very cute decoration on top and was made to perfection.

Yelp
I've dined at Yummies a handful of times in the last 2 months and couldn't be more impressed with the quality of food they're making and the experiences they're creating for their clientele. For starters, everyone from the waitstaff, to baristas, to the hostesses are welcoming, friendly and attentive. Cris in particular knows how to keep his guests coming back. Hats off to one of the most personable and hospitable humans on the island. His food recommendations were 10/10, if you can sit in his section you're in for a real treat. After pickle balling in the sun next door for 4+ hours, breakfast didn't always sound appealing to me. My go-to has become the Yummies Turkey Wrap: smoked turkey, avo, tomato, spinach, feta and sprouts. Perfect for any time of day, fresh tasting, and enough to fill the tank minus that starch heavy feel. Yummies feels like home, yes they stay busy in the AM but for good reason. Stop by early and drop your name if you just aren't down for the long wait time (ordering to go is also an option). Or an even better tip would be to play pickleball next door while you wait for your table (get some games in, decide when you want to eat, gauge the wait time and go from there). This place is super relaxed, they're on island time after all.
google avatar

Ariel G.

Yelp
Food is always amazing. Staff is really nice. They are super helpful when dealing with food allergies. The wait times can be long on the weekend but it is definitely worth the wait.
google avatar

Anthony T.

Yelp
This is always a great breakfast spot when you're on the Island. The staff are upbeat and friendly. The food is fresh and pretty fast even with the morning rush. Great family atmosphere. Anyway, give Yummies a try if you find yourself in SPI!
google avatar

Kathryn T.

Yelp
The food is amazing. We make sure to eat breakfast here not just everytime we're visiting SPI but sometimes every day we're here. Staff is always accommodating and friendly, especially Becky at the bar...she's a true gem. Highly, highly recommend!

Hadsy B.

Yelp
If you're going to charge extra for substitutions you need to tell people that before they get the bill and it surprises them. You have every right to charge what you want and/or not grant substitutions, but adding on the extra charges without making that clear is in poor taste. That and the fact that you forced us to move our chairs and squish off to the side on a tiny table in order to accommodate two literal iPad children who had a gigantic table with no food, just their chairs pushed out unreasonably far while they played games on their iPads. Weird. Not worth the hype or price.

Yelp
Yummies Bistro really fits for the name of this restaurant. I had the eggs with ham and hash brown breakfast and it was delicious! The service was great! Our server Alyssa was very attentive and nice. I had the Milky Way latte which consisted of espresso, caramel, chocolate sauce, and steamed milk, topped with whipped cream. It was phenomenal! It looked too good to drink. They have outdoor patio seating which is where we sat. We live in Albuquerque New Mexico but the next time we're at South Padre Island we will definitely be trying out Yummies Bistro!
google avatar

Megan F.

Yelp
When we first discovered Yummies, it was an eat-there-once-on-vacation place. But now it's become an eat-there-every-day-on-vacation place. Get there early...it's busy because it's GOOD (and it has the best servers on the island).
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
There's no way I can sum up in one review how amazing I think this cafe is. Every time we are in town, we try to go every single day! All the food I ordered was fantastic and I love getting the coconut zesta coffee. Who would have ever thought that coffee with lime zest on top could be good?! I have dreams about it! It gets very busy here, but the service is great and they will get you taken care of fast. On days with nice weather we love sitting outside too.

Zach M.

Yelp
Food was beautiful and amazing must try! We come here for breakfast every time we visit South Padre.
google avatar

Nikkie H.

Yelp
This place is a must!! Fresh ingredients, nice atmosphere, friendly folks and 100% local! Food: I almost always have eggs and this time I had the BRIT. Yummm! The coconut zest coffee is my fave! Service: They are the best! Becky, Kim, etc...so friendly and quick! Everyone is friendly. Owner present at all times and I know that makes a huge difference! Ambiance: Looks great, clean restrooms, great vibe!

Yelp
C U T E R E S T A U R A N T My friend kept bragging up this place, so I finally stopped in to have a bite. The menu was pretty good, and they had an outstanding coffee selection. Apparently a signature of Yummies. I opted for the Shrimp Quesadilla, one of my standards. It did say it was on a spinach tortilla, so I wasn't surprised when it arrived. However, it certainly wasn't a traditional quesadilla, but that was on purpose I'm sure. I didn't really get my socks knocked off, there was hardly any cheese. And there were a few sprinkles of yellow cheese that weren't even melted on top. So it was ok, but not what I really prefer, just not my 1st choice, My server was a delightful young lady, so attentive! I promised to return and have fancy coffee and Key Lime Pie. The entire place was clean, upbeat and cheery. With lots of happy looking people. G O O D V I B R A T I O N S

Yelp
I had the Carribean Cobb Salad! I had it to go. It was AMAZING! Everything was so fresh and included pineapple. It was very reasonably priced and absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend!
google avatar

Terri W.

Yelp
Great little place! Good food reasonably priced and Service was excellent! Had the breakfast burrito with beans. Hubby had egg sandwich with fresh fruit, and coffee. All were excellent will be back

Shirley L.

Yelp
Arrived at 9:00 am and seated right away. The waitress immediately came to our table and the coffee delivered within minutes was dark, rich and piping hot as it should be. We ordered breakfast and could not have been happier with our selections. Hubby asked for the French toast with a side of bacon. His grin said it all! I ordered one of the breakfast sandwiches made with fresh spinach, an egg and bacon. It came with at least two cups of fresh grapes, pineapple and strawberries ... an unexpected delight! Totally happy with our first visit to Yummies.

Yelp
Amazing service by Jimmy! Indoor and outdoor seating - we sat outside and it was actually quite pleasant; nice, breezy & shaded! My husband ordered the chorizo Benedict and it was exceptional- super flavorful and not too spicy. I ordered the All American breakfast and wasn't disappointed- high protein with some sourdough and hashbrowns on the side! Also got an iced oatmilk latte with one pump vanilla and it was yummy! Not too sweet and could actually taste the coffee We'll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
What a cool place for breakfast...BLOWS the Hotels breakfast into a 3rd world status lol Coffee was perfect and my eggs were delicious.
google avatar

Haley L.

Yelp
The food and service is great here - we come everytime that we are on the island visiting.
google avatar

Carolyn B.

Yelp
This place is pretty decent, but pretty average really except the Spanish Macchiato. Ambiance feels like a diner. It had a long wait. We opted to sit on the patio, but at least 1/3 of the fans weren't on or weren't working. I got the Gulf Coast Grits, which were tasty but TBH based on the description--"Sautéed shrimp, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, and cheddar Jack cheese combined with Cajun style grits, served with flatbread"--I would have expected the toppings to play more front and center. It was really just gooey cheesy grits with TINY bits of chopped shrimp and veggies in it. It tasted good, but wasn't what I wanted. Hubby had the lox bagel which was again pretty standard. Would be a 3 star experience except that Macchiato earns them an extra star.

Yelp
I was a little nervous about waiting in a line and finding no parking after reading some Yelp reviews but this was not our experience. I'm not sure if the end of July is a less busy time but we came here around 10 am on a weekday and found parking with no problem. We were seated right away at an outside table. There was a 15 minute wait if we wanted to eat indoors. This place has such good food and the presentation is at another level! I highly recommend their Spanish macchiato! It's a little sweet but delicious. My husband and I had omelettes. Son had chicken and waffles and daughter had the chorizo Benedicts. Everything was fabulous! Service was excellent. Alyssa was our server and she took great care of us. If you are in South Padre you cannot miss out on this place. It would be a shame!

Miriam M.

Yelp
Update: not dog friendly. Certified service dogs only. Different reviews on yelp Google and website. I called ahead and was told dogs ok on patio. Get there and not true. Too bad I really wanted that pretty coffee. Oh well I won't be coming back here ever.

Melissa B.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast burritos- large and tasty and called ahead order and was ready! Was very crowded and will definitely be back.
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
We ordered our food to go, and it was fresh hot and very tasty. We ordered the cinnamon French toast and the chocolate chip pancakes. The chocolate chip pancakes had tons of chocolate chip chips. I would recommend going there for breakfast.
google avatar

Jairus F.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service. Recommend the Yellow poppyseed pancakes (fluffy!) and Southwest Omelette. Great coffee options including Nutella Latte.

Linda D.

Yelp
Went in for coffee - they have a great little coffee bar and some unique menu items. I got the Milky Way latte, and it was so delicious! My daughter got a hot chocolate, and it was also amazing!! We will definitely be back!!

La C.

Yelp
A popular local eat judging by the wait time. The food was good food and friendly service. Fresh ingredients on my avocado toast. Portion was enough for two. Coffee not pictured here was decent.
google avatar

Tamara C.

Yelp
Our server, Mizz , was very nice and knowledgeable. He gave great recommendations. Food was beyond good!! Highly recommend.

Tiffany V.

Yelp
Tried to go here a couple times and be prepared, the parking lot is always full, just not worth going imo. Finally was able to eat here on a Tuesday morning. The coffee sucked, it tasted burnt. Sad for a "bistro". The Irish coffee was way too sweet, even after asking for it to be half sweet. Go to an actual coffee shop for good coffee. The food was good. The service was good. The ambience was good.... For a random slow Tuesday morning. Nothing worth raving about.
google avatar

Keay A.

Yelp
Yummies was the perfect place for the last breakfast of vacation. I had to go with the biscuits and gravy with a galaxy latte and I was not disappointed! The food was amazing and the waitress made me feel like I was at home! The vibe of Yummies feels so intimate and inviting - now added to my long standing list of places to revisit on my next trip to Padre!
google avatar

Shashikala P.

Yelp
Went for breakfast today morning, had to wait 20ish mins for outside table, it was pleasant and vibe is like a happening place, there coffee sucks, that's why 3star, if you're particular about your coffee or espresso, wouldn't recommend this place, but if you're there mostly for food or you have sweet tooth and love you espresso drink sweeter than sugar, you'll gonna love this place!! Drinks ordered, Spanish macchiato( there most popular drink), hot chocolate and drip. Food, you can order there lunch menu too in the morning, so kiddo ordered chicken quesadillas, I got souther scrambled, hubby got chilaquiles. Coffee here sucks that's the reason for 3stars, morning coffee is a very important for me, my Spanish macchiato was sweeter than sugar, I dunno how they did it, and that after I asked them to cut down on condensed milk, then asked for a espresso shot to mix it with, so my coffee was at room temp by the time they bought the espresso shot, even after mixing the extra shot, it was still sooooo sweet, so ordered cappuccino, and really could taste that burnt espresso, and by this time I had already wasted $12ish on my coffee and that burnt espresso had ruin my taste buds, so just gave up, this made my whole breakfast thing miserable. Hubby told his drip was okay, kiddo liked his hot chocolate. Food: everything was good. They're busy, so service is okay, you have flag them down, when you need something.

Maria P.

Yelp
Delicious and aesthetically pleasing food. Great service only downside is the wait time and parking lot space.
google avatar

Yesica P.

Yelp
The service was great, drinks were delicious we had a few OJ mimosas , a few different plates at the table. The atmosphere was peaceful very chill.
google avatar

Abigail B.

Yelp
The service and food were certainly worth the 1 hour wait! The ambiance was nice and comfortable. We will most definitely be back for another round of great food.
google avatar

Gina R.

Yelp
This place can do no wrong! Staff is attentive, clean place, and great food! Party of 6. All for Breakfast except for one. The bacon is nice and crispy. Pancakes are perfect size. Eggs cooked to perfection. One got tacos and they are 10 inch tacos! I got the Nutella frap and wow! It was so delicious! One person got the club sandwich and it could not be finished. It was huge and looked so good! He enjoyed it. We come back every time we are in SPI and will continue doing so. One thing...parking is horrible but once you get inside you won't even care!

Steven S.

Yelp
We ate here twice on Easter weekend. The first time it was great, the second time the definition of crispy hash-browns has changed to burnt hash browns. When told about it the hash-browns were returned to the kitchen and thrown into a deep fat fryer.. It was pretty ridiculous. The bacon was half cooked and really soggy. We did not go back the next morning. Denny's was a far better choice.
google avatar

Vivian H.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the service was top-notch! We enjoyed the breakfast quesadilla and specialty coffee. Amazing flavors and customer service.
google avatar

Christina P.

Yelp
Yummies serves breakfast all day and there is often a wait as they do not take reservations, but it is worth it! You can tell it is a staple of the South Padre area and a must if you're hungry for a memorable brunch. The menu is huge so it's difficult to decide what to order, but no worries, anything you get is amazing! I finally decided on the Rancheros Santa Cruz and was not disappointed. In place of the sourdough bread, I had a homemade tortilla, which was perfect. My husband had the grilled ham and gouda sandwich on the lunch menu. Also delicious. The portions are large and the place is lively, noisy, and bustling. The name speaks for itself. Most definitely yummy!

Robert P.

Yelp
coffee is liquidated with milk in large cup. Looks nice not Italian. Same with Cuban coffee. All about looks
