Last week, I passed by Golden Gate Bakery and saw a huge line, so I decided to find another spot in Chinatown with equally delicious egg tarts! (After all, there are so many egg tart shops there 😆!) That’s when I discovered Yummy Bakery & Cafe that sells egg white egg tarts!
Even when I arrived 30 minutes before closing, there was still a small line! They were still baking fresh bread and egg tarts—such a nice surprise! The interior clearly showed its history as an old-school bakery, which immediately let me know they are good 👀.
I got the egg white egg tart, regular egg tart, and a pineapple bun with real pineapple chunks 🍍.
Egg Tart:
When eaten fresh and warm, the crust is super crispy and fragrant, and the custard is soft, silky, and delicious 😋. It’s above average, but not mind-blowing—more of a solid stable choice when you’re craving egg tarts!
Egg White Egg Tart:
The filling had a texture kind of like steamed milk pudding, and the crust was on the crispier side! It might not be for everyone, but it’s definitely worth trying at least once!
Pineapple Bun:
The crust was flaky, and the bread was soft and fluffy! The balance between the milk custard filling and real pineapple chunks was just right—when you bite into the pineapple pieces, the natural fruity aroma bursts out, making the custard feel lighter and not overwhelming 😲. Such a pleasant surprise!!
If you ever catch these fresh out of the oven, you must get one—this was my favorite out of everything and totally worth buying again! It was my first time trying a pineapple bun with actual pineapple chunks inside 😆. And it was so crispy that I couldn’t even tear it apart for a photo—it just flattened instantly 😆. Definitely best enjoyed warm!
